Question from Fmesq (11:58, 3 March 2022)

Hi, I'm pretty sure https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Google_Search starts off with wrong info. the number of daily searches is very dated (from 2012). It know be now on close to 13.5 billion. see https://duckduckgo.com/traffic and https://gs.statcounter.com/search-engine-market-share/ Best, fmesq --Fmesq (talk) 11:58, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

@Fmesq: If the information is outdated, you can add a
(as of 2012) after it, or, if you have reliable sources, you can be bold and replace the figure with a more up-to-date one. ― Qwerfjkltalk 16:39, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Short description case issue

The bot has added {{Short description|None}} to many articles but none it needs to be lower case to work correctly ({{Short description|none}}), particularly with {{annotated link}}. Compare the following:

I corrected the first. The bot's entry is there at the second. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:14, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

So you can fix annotated link, or stop messing it up just so you have your caps in your list. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:15, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
@Walter Görlitz: Should be fixed with Template talk:Annotated link#Template-protected edit request on 5 March 2022. Otherwise, this will be fixing the symptom , not the problem. I'll restore Wikipedia:Short description for now. ― Qwerfjkltalk 18:23, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Cinemanolita1 (17:56, 9 March 2022)

Hello, please can you advise how to make our page a regular page? It says 'transclusion' and has zero SEO pick up despite having many active links. --Cinemanolita1 (talk) 17:56, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Are you referring to King Otto (film)? Where exactly does it say "transclusion"? I just patrolled King Otto (film), so it will now be indexed by search engines. Finally, do you have a WP:COI? ― Qwerfjkltalk 18:08, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Courtesy ping @Cinemanolita1. ― Qwerfjkltalk 18:09, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Flora categories

Flora categories, like Flora of Malta are only for native plants. Please check before you add this category to an article! Peter coxhead (talk) 19:04, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

If you are not sure, follow the POWO link in the taxonbar; there will be a map as well as a list of native distribution units. Peter coxhead (talk) 19:13, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
There's a quirk in using Flora of Malta: "Malta" here, as in all flora distributions, is what is meant in the WGSRPD, not necessarily the political unit. The WGSRPD includes its "Malta" within Sicily, so you would only use "Flora of Malta" if a plant is native to Malta but not to Sicily. I suspect there's a lot of miscategorization! Peter coxhead (talk) 16:37, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
@Peter coxhead: I got my list from Flora of Malta, so any errors probably originate from there. (My edits yesterday were still from Flora of Malta, but I messedd up my regexp.) Are there any problems from today? ― Qwerfjkltalk 16:40, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
@Qwerfjkl: suppose a species, call it X, occurs as a native in both Malta and an area that includes Malta in the WGSRPD. Then X should appear in the "Flora of Malta" article, but the article on X should not be placed in the category "Flora of Malta", but in the category for the largest unit in which it occurs that includes Malta. It's a nice example to illustrate the difference between list articles and categories – sometimes it has been wrongly argued that you don't need the article "Flora of X" because of the existence of "Category:Flora of X". But you can't just automatically put every article about a species listed in Flora of Malta into Category:Flora of Malta – you have to check that it isn't (or shouldn't be) in a category for the flora of a unit that includes Malta. Peter coxhead (talk) 20:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
@Peter coxhead: I see, that sounds problematic. What do you think should be done now? ― Qwerfjkltalk 21:01, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
I could just rollback all my edits, but if it only affects a small proportion of the pages, then it might be better to check manually. ― Qwerfjkltalk 21:50, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
I don't personally think some over-categorization matters that much. There's a lot of it about. Thus, as just one example, all of those here are in both Category:Flora of France and Category:Flora of Europe, which shouldn't be the case. Peter coxhead (talk) 22:24, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
But examples like Yucca gloriosa are different. It's native to North America, and certainly not part of the flora of Malta. Peter coxhead (talk) 22:34, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
These 200 don't belong in Category:Flora of Malta as they are already in Category:Flora of Europe. Peter coxhead (talk) 22:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
Fixed those 200. ― Qwerfjkltalk 07:10, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

So I noticed – great work! I fixed a few more that were also in other categories of which Category:Flora of Malta is a subcategory (based on Cat-a-lot's overcategorization check), and some species that I recognized as non-native. As I indicated above, I find myself not very bothered about categorization errors; the entire system is riddled with inconsistencies, as far as I can see, and I'm doubtful as to how useful it is. So that's as much as I'm going to do. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:01, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Different case: in the WGSRPD, "Turkey" is not in Europe – the first part of the category description at Category:Flora of Turkey was wrong as was the categorization. "Turkey" means only the part in Western Asia; "European Turkey" has its own flora category. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:31, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Should I revert? ― Qwerfjkltalk 20:45, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on 4 da Gang (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Regarding a script

At User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/wikibreak:

window.HourStart = 15
window.HourEnd = 17 // The hour -1, otherwise it will last from 6PM to 6:59PM
{{subst:js|1=User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/wikibreak.js}} // installation text

I believe that the message should've been "otherwise it will last from 3PM to 6:59PM", right? Or am I missing something? Thanks! ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 15:56, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Tropical cyclone timeline color changes

Would you be willing to change timeline colors for tropical cyclone articles per the consensus achieved at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Weather#Infobox & Template colors (either by bot or AWB)? I listed the first set below. If you are willing to make these changes I will calculate the RGB values for the other basins and add them + the appropriate categories. Actually, I went ahead and added all of them below. The new color text is listed below for each basin. NoahTalk 23:00, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
