Home Inventory
Hi Quadell,
I see that in 2005 you deleted a page titled Home Inventory. I am creating a page titled the same, and wanted to know why you deleted it/what your content was about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabi1985 (talk • contribs) 21:21, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I assume you mean the page was Home inventory. As you can see, if you click on the redlink, it was a copyright violation having been copied from a copyright website though that page no longer exists. We don't allow that. ww2censor (talk) 09:44, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
It seems your bot made a bit of a mess quite a long time ago, any chance of helping to fix it?
Please see this post. JJ Harrison (talk) 07:40, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

WikiLove customization
It looks like something changed recently about the load order of user JavaScript, which in turn broke WikiLove customization. I don't have a good fix yet, but I implemented a hackish solution to restore some of your customization in the meantime. Cheers. Kaldari (talk) 23:26, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Bust of Aristotle, or Pythagoras?
Hiya, there's a minor issue concerning this "Bust of Aristotle", which you uploaded to commons seven years ago. I've just created a category for Busts of Aristotle, and it obviously looks nothing like Aristotle. In fact, as pointed out by an anonymous user five years ago, it looks much more like a bust of Pythagoras. Pasicles (talk) 16:01, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I uploaded this back in 2005, and I'm sure I took the photo... but the truth is, I don't remember it. I have no idea where the statue was, or how I knew it was Aristotle and not Pythagoras. I wish I had left better notes in the file description page!
- Of course, no one really knows what Aristotle or Pythagoras looked like, and so any sculpture is just a guess. You'll find several sculptures and paintings of Aristotle that look nothing like each other. So that's not really a sign that the sculpture isn't notionally of Aristotle. But still, I'm not sure it's all that useful. Sorry I can't be more help. – Quadell (talk) 19:50, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- It's certainly true that no-one knows what Pythagoras looked like, but the surviving busts of Aristotle are believed to be copies from an original made by Lysippos, around 330 BC (before Aristotle's death). (You'll notice that all of the ancient busts in Category:Busts of Aristotle look the same). So they probably are a good representation of him, just as we have (probably) reliable busts of Plato and Socrates. Surviving busts of Pythagoras, on the other hand, clearly conform to a kind of philosopher-sage archetype -- but they tend to be similar, with a long beard, and often with hat/turban thingy on his head.
- It all depends on when the bust in your picture was made - I assume it's "modern", i.e. post 1500. If it was made in the past 150 years, then it's unlikely that's it meant to represent Aristotle, but if it's a renaissance sculpture, then maybe the artist didn't have a clue - so, unfortunately in the absence of any further information, I can't fully decide one way or another. Pasicles (talk) 15:45, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah. For illustrating an article on Aristotle (or Pythagoras), it would be much better to use a sculpture that is older and better sourced than this one, regardless. – Quadell (talk) 15:49, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've done some more research, and up to about 1800 sculptures of Aristotle actually do tend to look a bit like the one you uploaded. There's one, for example, in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston: [1] with a long beard and cap on his head. So maybe it was "Aristotle" you took a picture of after all. I shall let the picture stand. Thanks for your time and attention on this. Pasicles (talk) 16:04, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah. For illustrating an article on Aristotle (or Pythagoras), it would be much better to use a sculpture that is older and better sourced than this one, regardless. – Quadell (talk) 15:49, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Image ownership problems
Hello, Rimshot referred me to you from the Villagepump in regards to an issue I'm having with one of the images I uploaded. Cutting a long story short, Wikipedia was the first project I joined and that is where I uploaded (at the time) all my images. One of those images has been moved here on commons except unlike previous moves, my name is no-where to be found on the file description. As I said on Village pump, I do not wish to change the image rights or anything else for the matter. But I would like the description to acknowledge me as the original uploader. If you read the June 8 entry on the Village pump Rimshot said he could see I was the first uploader via a log and said You're the editor to see regarding this. I don't want to make a big deal of this, just my name on my work. If you could also refer me to any reading material regarding this for future reference, I would be most grateful. Kind Regards, 58.6.100.207 (talk) 13:57, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oops I didn't realize Rimshot referred me to Wikipedia. This is me, Wiki ian 15:07, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for contacting me. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. Are you the photographer of this image? If so, then we absolutely have to be credited and I will fix it. If you're not the photographer, but only the original uploader, then that's different. In that case, I'd still make sure you're credited as the uploader, but I don't want to credit you as the photographer unless you took the photo... and I can't tell from your wording whether you're the photographer or not. Thanks, – Quadell (talk) 00:12, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me. I am both, the photographer and uploader. Took the picture out of boredom going to my girlfriends house over ten years ago. Still got many photos from that camera that should have the metadata preserved. Do I have to do anything else regarding this?
- Okay, that's great. I corrected the attribution. The image should now be correct. Thanks for speaking up! – Quadell (talk) 19:05, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Feature Michelle Merkin picture?
Hi. Could we renominate the picture of Michelle Merkin https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Michele_Merkin_4.jpg as a featured picture candidate? It's now the primary image for the article Bikini and I was surprised to see how poorly it fared initially. Seems like the image may truly have been "ahead of its time" at least w/ respect to being available via Wikipedia/Commons, but I would strongly support it now that I'm aware of it, and I'm sure others will too. Or can it not be renominated? Thanks! Azx2 19:10, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that sounds good to me. I don't really nominate images, and I'm not too familiar with the policies involved; but I'd certainly vote for it if it were nominated. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 12:27, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Iranian Roads images
About the images, I didn't take these images, I found them using google maps and panoramio photo sharing website. And because I was uploading images non-stop and fast, I didn't pay much attention to find a proper license for the photos. Nima Farid (talk) 00:21, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello Quadell. I want to thank you for helping me on TUSC. I followed your instructions and it worked properly. I successfully transferred those files on this article. Thanks again.Farhikht (talk) 10:07, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Deleted imgs
Could you restore the Australian language maps you deleted? Did they not have 'keep local' tags? (They should have.) It's going to be a pain in the ass to clean this up when someone at Commons decides to delete them all there, and bots start deleting the links. — kwami (talk) 21:06, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
BTW, the imgs are:
File:Dyirbalic languages.png File:Durubalic languages.png File:Darling language.png File:Barranbinja language.png File:Bandjalangic languages.png File:Giimbiyu languages.png File:Darwin Region languages (closeup).png File:Darwin Region languages.png File:Daly languages (closeup).png File:Daly languages.png File:Bunaban languages.png File:Arnhem languages (closeup).png File:Arnhem languages.png File:Arnhem Land languages.png File:Arandic languages.png File:Anaiwan language.png
- I can certainly undelete the Australian language maps if you like, and put "keep local" on them too. (Only a few had "keep local" tags, and I didn't delete those.) Then again... I made sure the versions on Commons have correct categories, full descriptions (from the image captions in articles), etc., and I have them on my watchlist on Commons in case anyone challenges them for some odd reason. There are advantages to keeping the images in one place, so that changes can be made in one spot (if, for instance, new research reveals expanded boundaries on a language community)... Can I talk you into keeping them just on the Commons? If not, that's fine, I don't mind restoring them. I just want to check.
- Separately, I also want to thank you for making so many detailed and useful maps on so many language groups. They're quite helpful, and endangered languages get too little coverage here on Wikipedia. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 21:16, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've had a horrible time at Commons, and don't trust them. Last time I had to prove images there against a persistent challenge, it took two months of bureaucratic nonsense. (That included pestering people to fill out permission forms for us to use images from the 19th century!) I'd prefer to keep local copies, just in case: We had a to-do about one of the Australian maps just a few months ago. I don't expect these maps will be updated, since they show historical boundaries. If a better source comes along, it would be easier just to draw new maps.
- I see now there were quite a few more. Well, you know which ones. — kwami (talk) 22:25, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
- That's fine. I have now restored all the Australian language maps you created, and I put a keep local tag on each. (I'll also keep an eye on the copies at Commons.) Thanks again for your creations! – Quadell (talk) 11:17, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Oh dear me...
Today is my 9-year anniversary of being a Wikipedia administrator! If you have any special requests for admin tasks you'd particularly like me to work on today, just let me know.
Image thanks and tips
Happy anniversary to you, but I must say that I am much more impressed at your being an editor for more than a decade and still keeping up the pace. Congratulations. Thanks for all of the cleanup of images in New Jersey articles, both in terms of removing extraneous gallery images and for adding images to articles for places in the state. As I go through articles for places, can you offer any suggestions for removing images already in commons and for integrating images from galleries or commons into articles? Thanks again. Alansohn (talk) 17:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks! Sure, I'm glad to help organize images as much as possible. Frequently there will be a number of highway sign images on Commons, and I'm not really sure if they're useful for the article. Or check out these images of Lodi, New Jersey... I don't know how I would integrate a car or a sluice gate into the article, and although those are nice images of flood cleanup, the flood isn't really mentioned in the article. I run into that a lot, where I'm not sure whether integrating existing images into the article would be worthwhile or not. Anyway, I'm glad to work with you on any of this. Once I've ported all the images to the Commons, I'll check through the categories on Commons and (hopefully) find images of things in individual cities/burroughs/townships that weren't categorized as such, and then the available stock of images for each area will be larger. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 17:58, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- As I troll through images in commons, I see many images that are not categorized to a specific place. I'm sure that your efforts will make it that much easier to run through the images and see which can be best integrated into an article, but I agree that there are many images that would be rather difficult to add in any meaningful fashion. I will keep an eye out and see where images can be usefully inserted in articles for places. Alansohn (talk) 18:05, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Screenshots
Thanks for helping to clear up that TV screenshots impasse. I have to say I was at first a bit worried whether that RfC was going to be helpful, but with the way it's worked out and with your closing notes, I guess we can now indeed take it as a useful point of reference for the future, and with your input on the 23 May batch it should now be possible to wrap that one up cleanly. There's still a big list of things that will need scrutiny at some point. Have you seen my list at User:Future Perfect at Sunrise/TV episodes? (Caution, big page). Cheers, – Fut.Perf. ¤ 17:16, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- Wow, yes, that is a long list. Not quite up-to-date though. Did you use a script to assemble it? That might be a good place to start, when getting everything on the same standard. – Quadell (talk) 17:57, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I ran the script some time earlier this year; it's basically the same data I also derived the list of FFDs from. It was rather complicated and expensive in computation though, so I don't think I'll re-run it any time soon for an update (basically, in order to figure out what is or isn't a TV episode image, you have to go through all the articles in Category:TV episodes and then look at the wikitext of all the old revisions to see what images were contained in it at what times). Possible sock?
Hi: I see a reference to your talkpage archives regarding socks of User:Fox53. I was about to welcome User:Wikipediohacker and then recommend they read the NPOV policy with regard to their editing at Dresden English Football Club and on Commons in relation to it, but rechecking their global contributions I see they have now been blocked on Commons as a sock of User:Kay Körner, whom we have blocked here as a Fox53 sock. I've never asked for a checkuser before; do you concur that one should be summoned, and if so would you do the honors, or shall I copy and paste adding my rationale? Yngvadottir (talk) 13:11, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I haven't done a checkuser in years. Since I'm not current enough on the way things are done, I'm probably not the best admin for the job. You could try at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser though; they don't seem to have any backlog at all. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 13:19, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

- I would argue that no copyrightable content is reproduced well enough to matter, so it's de minimis, like the ads at File:0.City Energy.jpg or the game covers at File:Videogameretaildisplay.jpg. (The book covers are mostly text, and the resolution is such that you can't really see the artistic elements well at all.) – Quadell (talk) 12:22, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- (I got vertigo looking at the energy one). Hmm... I think that would be hard to argue when we've deleted images of CD covers for the same. The video game one might get a pass as none of them are on the angle where a reproduction could be made, though to be sure the Cat Who images aren't straight on either. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:41, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's a gray area. I still think it's a free image with only de minimis reproduction, and so not a derivative image, but of course I'd bow to consensus. Are you content to leave it there, for now? If not, I could restore it locally, and you could nominate it at WP:PUF. Then, if it's deemed free there, we'd keep it at Commons, and if not, I'd change the licensing here and delete it at Commons. But I'd rather not bother, if you're fine with it. – Quadell (talk) 12:55, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

- I thing I see what you're trying to do there... The user who tags an image with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} would specify a Commons category to put the image in at the time of tagging, right? Then when someone uses the toolserver to move the image over, it would put the category in, right?
- I like the idea, but I don't think it would be used much. The main reason is, it's much easier to add a category through the Javascript tool on Commons (defaulted to "on" for all users) where you start typing a word and Commons lists the available categories that match the word. To do this while adding a tag on Wikipedia, you'd have to guess at what's available, or have multiple tabs in use for the task, and I don't think people would do this. I like that you're looking for solutions, but I personally don't think that would work. – Quadell (talk) 12:07, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yes , but the intent was to group the ones without {{commonscat}} Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:26, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ohhh... Wait. Um, maybe I don't understand what the change would do. – Quadell (talk) 19:20, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
John Lennon
Am I get into troubles for upload the picture? I'dprefer that my name doesn't be shown in the description. Can you help? Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:46, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll be glad to help. You won't get on any trouble for uploading the image. You haven't broken any rules. I'm afraid there isn't an easy way of removing your name... even if I took your name off the description, anyone could click "history" and see that your username was the one who uploaded it. Usually we need a way of saying who the photographer was, so we can be sure that the photographer wants to release the image under a free license. Is it okay if I leave the image as it is? I'll keep an eye on it and make sure there isn't any trouble. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 13:55, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. I just don't want to break any rule :) Best! Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:57, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I have a question. Why it has to be in Commons and not just in the English Wikipedia? Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:58, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's on Commons so that other wikiprojects can use it. For instance, I have now added it to the articles on John Lennon Park in the Spanish and Portuguese language Wikipedias. (See es:Parque John Lennon and pt:Parque John Lennon.) When images are only here on the English Wikipedia, only we can use them, but when they are moved to Commons, any wikiproject can use them. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 14:10, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, In that case can you do me a favor? I was rying to wake up the Wikiproyecto U2 (Spanish Wikipedia) as I did to WikiProject U2, so I was trying to use this one I made File:Wikiproyectou2-logo.png, but it seems like it isn't at Commons. Can you upload it there (sorry if my English is too bad, it isn't my native language) Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:17, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- No problem! I have moved the image to Commons. Now other projects should be able to use it. – Quadell (talk) 14:25, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

User Cyberia
User Cyberia has requested that his non-free images be deleted. Perhaps you could just delete them as a courtesy to him? This is a suggestion. Nothing more. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:30, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for notifying me. I have removed these images. If anyone wants to re-upload them under their own account, that's fine, so long as they follow our non-free content criteria. – Quadell (talk) 11:39, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank You. I know he was anxious to get them deleted as he was tired of receiving image deletion notices. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:20, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Images I want deleted
Thanks for the assistance. I'd also like another image I uploaded deleted, this one I made myself, years ago, for a discussion example under the Talk:Automan talk page. i don't want it on Wikipedia anymore but this User:Nyttend thinks otherwise and reverted the template I placed on the image as well edit warring my deletion of it in the talk page. If I'm not following proper procedure to delete an image please tell me what I need to do. Cyberia23 (talk) 17:20, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
The file is here [[3]] Cyberia23 (talk) 17:22, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Can you explain your wheel warring on this image? This user edit-warred to retag the image several times; I repeatedly explained to him that we do not permit license revocation here, but as you see immediately above, he admits to refactoring a talk page and sees my removal of the speedy deletion tag as a policy violation, rather than as a case of an admin removing inappropriate speedy deletion tags. Note that I found it, along with lots of others, in CAT:CSD while patrolling; this isn't a case of me stalking the guy or anything like that. Nyttend (talk) 21:11, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Wheel warring is a serious charge. I have not done so. If you feel I have deleted an image inappropriately, I wouldn't object at all if you took it to DRV. I believe it's entirely appropriate to remove an image that has one author, when that one author requests deletion. I have no reason to think you've been stalking anyone, and I am not accusing you of doing so. – Quadell (talk) 21:46, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
I assure you that I can clean up the rationale and find a very good tag. While not a soundtrack, this is an 8-track head cleaner... To be honest, finding that cleaner is very difficult due to the obsoletion of the 8-track tape. And I don't know who else owns the head cleaner. --George Ho (talk) 17:35, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- The nominator at the FFD discussion listed two problems. The bad rationale was one, but there was also the problem of WP:NFCC#8. That is to say, in his opinion, you can fully understand the article 8-track tape without seeing this image. The text on the cleaning tape is copyrighted, as is the photo. So I don't think we would be able to keep it, even if the rationale were fixed. Sorry. – Quadell (talk) 17:52, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

FAC reviews
Quadell, I dropped by to thank you for the many high-quality reviews I've seen you contribute at FAC. Your careful and detailed contributions are very much appreciated. --Laser brain (talk) 14:39, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, it's great to feel appreciated! It's like a text-only barnstar. Honestly I'm not much of a content-creator, so I feel like reviewing is one of the best ways I can help to improve the content of articles. (Plus, I know what it's like to have a FAC die on the vine from a lack of reviews, so I like it when I can prevent that from happening.) I'm currently working on an especially complex GAN for Romania in the Early Middle Ages, and it's kicking my butt. But hey, I always learn a lot from them. Thanks for your reviews as well, and I hope Wikipedia keeps being good to you. – Quadell (talk) 15:05, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Barnstar thanks
I wanted to reach out and thank you for the Barnstar you left on my talk page. Coming from someone who has worked extensively within the Wikipedia world and in articles across the nation, this recognition is incredibly meaningful and sincerely appreciated. I thank you for all of your efforts to clean up images and I hope to be able to spend time integrating these images into articles. Again, my most sincere thanks. New Question
Is it ok to have this picture File:Osmani_García.jpg at the top of the main article of that guy? I don't think so, but I wanted to ask you first. Best! Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:15, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- No, you're right, that violates our non-free content criteria. Since Osmani García is still alive, it should be possible for someone to take a photo of him and release it under a free license. So we can't depict him at the main article with a non-free image. That image could be used in an article about the album "El Malcriao", but we don't seem to have an article about that album right now. – Quadell (talk) 18:06, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank God! I will remove it. Personally I hate his music, it's very vulgar. Cuban reggaeton it's not good at all, IMHO, but don't trust me because I don't like reggaeton at all :). Thanks for your answer. Miss Bono [zootalk] 18:13, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Vaillancourt Fountain
h3ll0 Quadell, I am having some troubles to place this File:Vaillancourt_Fountain,_Justin_Herman_Plaza_(San_Francisco,_California)_FU.jpg in the translated article I am working on for the Spanish Wikipedia of the Vaillancourt Fountain. Do you know what's the problem? Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:16, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I see what's going on. It's a little complicated.
- At one point, this image was at The Commons, so that all Wikipedias can use it (Spanish and English). But it was moved from The Commons, to the English Wikipedia, so now only English Wikipedia articles can see it.
- If you want to know why it was removed from The Commons, it's because it's a free photo of a non-free sculpture. You see, sculptures like this one are copyrighted works. In some countries (like Cuba), you can take a photo of a non-free sculpture and publish it and it's not a problem. But in other countries (like the U.S.), any photo of a non-free sculpture is considered a non-free derivative work, even if you took the photo yourself. (See Freedom of panorama for more information.)
- In this case, the sculpture is in the U.S., so we have to treat the photo as if it's non-free. I told you it was a little complicated!
- The English language Wikipedia can use non-free photos like this one, so long as they follow our strict non-free content policy. But the Spanish language Wikipedia does not allow non-free images at all. That's why we can use the photo here, but not at the Spanish Wikipedia. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 13:41, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- wao! it's super duper complicated :) Thanks for the explanation :) Best! Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:49, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Sorry
Sorry that I am bothering you this much, but pictures and policies are tricky and i don't want to mass something up. I just uploaded this File:Screenshot_for_Walk_On.jpeg to depict the video section for this article Walk On (U2 song). What do you think? Shouldn't I upload it? Is it ok to have it in the article? Thanks, and sorry again. Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:45, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's no problem, I'm glad to help. To answer your question, it depends. Screenshots are sometimes okay, but frequently they are deleted; it depends on what is in the screenshot, and what description is in the article. If an article doesn't mention what's in the screenshot, the the screenshot is likely to be deleted. But if the article discusses things in the screenshot, and those statements are sourced to reliable sources, then it's fine to use the image.
- In the case of this image, currently, the article doesn't mention much about what's in the screenshot. (It just says it was filmed in Rio de Janeiro, and that statement isn't sourced.) As it is, I would say that the image does not pass our non-free content policy, and would probably be deleted. But if the section of the article about the video were expanded to include sourced commentary about things we see in the screenshot, then I would say the screenshot is acceptable. I don't know if there are any reliable sources to be found that mention the content of the video. But if there are, that's the best way to use the screenshot. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 15:01, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will work on expanding the section. :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:05, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Free Pictures
Are you good finding free pictures? I've been working on an article that it's currently in GA status, but, as I live in Cuba, I don't have a full Internet conection, just Wiki (not even Commons :(. Sad but true) So I was looking for a free picture of this girl. No one have found anything yet. Can you give it a try? I'd do it for myself but I don't have access to anything else, not even google or flickr. Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:24, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm usually pretty good at finding free images, if they exist. But I can't find any free images of Ms. Steinberg. Commons doesn't have anything, and Flickr only has copyrighted professional photos. Even looking through some other sites I know of, but I didn't find anything, sorry to say. – Quadell (talk) 15:39, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for trying. And for this woman and her husband? I was thinking about a more recent picture of him, because the one we have is from 2009 and there are not good enough pictures at Commons according to the rest of the members of our WikiProject You surely want to kill me right now :). Sorry... I swear I won't bother you again in the rest of the month :D Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:47, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ha ha, it's fine. There aren't any free photos of Ali Hewson on Flickr. There's one photo on Commons of Bono and Hewson together at File:Bono and Ali Hewson at daughter's graduation 2012.jpg, but it's a terrible picture. So I can't find much for her. As for Bono, Commons has these pictures from 2011 -- File:Bono - World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2011.jpg, File:Bono 2011.jpg, File:Bono U2 360 Tour 2011.jpg, and File:Bono Vox 2011.jpg -- and one from 2012 -- File:Tom Hart briefs Bono of U2.jpg. Flickr has a few freely-licensed concert photos of Bono, like this one from 2010 and this one from 2011, but I'm not sure if they'd be useful. Hope this helps! – Quadell (talk) 16:03, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

- I uploaded both. File:Bono in concert in 2010.jpg would probably be more useful if it were cropped to include just Bono, while File:Bono, Buenos Aires, 2011.jpg is probably fine as is. – Quadell (talk) 16:24, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Sherlock Holmes
Hahaha, I've discovered that Ireland and Cuba allows the pictures of sculptures, buildings, and works of artistic craftsmanship that are permanently located in a public place or premises open to the public, and to publish such pictures in any way. Question :)
I know, I know, I told you I won't be bothering you for a month but I was looking a really good picture we have (imho) and hit on the url where the user got it from. Can you check if there is another free pict there, not just him but the band as well? Cheers! I know I am a pain in the eye... sorry :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:59, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hello again, Miss Bono! The same photographer has other photos at u2gigs here, here, and here. Most of them are photos of Bono, but there are also photos of the Edge, Adam, and Larry as well. I don't know if those pictures are free or not. The site doesn't say that any of the pictures are freely licensed, but apparently Steve Kalinsky (the photographer) e-mailed Wikimedia to say that he's willing to release at least that one Bono photo under a free license. I have asked the OTRS volunteer on Commons whether or not the other photographs are free or not, and I'll let you know what he says. – Quadell (talk) 17:17, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:25, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

GOCE requests
Hi Quadell. Thanks for undertaking some of these requests. When you have comments to make, it's best to do it on the article's talk page, where it can form part of the record of the article's development, rather than on the GOCE/REQ page. The section of GOCE/REQ gets deleted when the request is completed, with only a minimal factual entry in the archive. The GOCE/REQ page mainly serves for housekeeping: to record outstanding requests and who is working on them. I will copy a couple of tracts over to talk pages now. Cheers, --Stfg (talk) 19:31, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

NFC stamp image
Hi Qyadell. I was just wondering why it was taking so long to reach a decision concerning the stamp image nominated for deletion. At this point it doesn't matter much to me either way what happens, but while the image is still in dispute we can't nominate the article for FA. If possible, can we get a decision soon? Thanx, -- Gwillhickers 10:55, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Greetings. It's too bad that it's taking so long. Unfortunately, I've already "voted" on whether the image should be deleted, and it's a contested nomination, so it would be inappropriate for me to personally close the debate. I'm sure an uninvolved admin will close the discussion and make a ruling at some point. I'll note that, while the discussion is over a month old, it's still not the oldest debate in the FFD backlog.
- Many admins are unwilling to close old image deletion debates, especially if they are inclined to think the image should be deleted, simply because they don't want the drama. When you delete an image someone wants, people take that personally. (Example: A few months back I saw an already months-old and heavily contested FFD discussion on a non-free Canadian Coat of Arms. So I closed it, using my best judgment, thinking it deserved closure. Several people got upset. I got angrily discussed at ANI and DRV, and had insults and even vague threats thrown my way. Even though the consensus eventually came around that I made the right decision, I still get angry snide comments about it now and again.)
- So anyway, many admins just don't want that kind of drama, especially if they're not 100% sure they're right. That's why these close-call highly-contested debates languish for so long. I'm sure eventually someone will make the call; I'm just not certain it'll be this month. Sorry. – Quadell (talk) 11:57, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your prompt reply and explanation. Okay, other nominations have taken longer. That explains much. Sorry about any drama. The image didn't threaten the interests of the post office (in fact it probably helps to promote stamp sales) so I was a little peeved that such an effort was made over 'how much' understanding the image provided for the reader. NFCC#8 is a highly subjective and opinionated item. It would seem to me if all other NFCC items were satisfied that a rigid adherence to NFCC#8 would not be called for. Anyway, that's my opinion. Thanks for your time effort and explanation. Btw, I tweaked the "critical commentary" and have pointed out that the details and subject matter of the image are talked about throughout the article. Hope this helps. -- Gwillhickers 20:15, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Hello
I have been part of a discussion involving the deletion of a file on the Jessica Alba page. I had considered comparing and contrasting the use of this file and the use of the Time Magazine cover image on the O.J. Simpson murder case page. I noted you were the admin that approved the use of that image. As a non-involved admin, would you care to review, and possibly comment on the FFD noted above?
