Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. I CAN SEE WHY YOU REFERRED TO COPYRIGHT. THE ARTICLES ARE THE SAME BECAUSE I WROTE BOTH OF THEM. I OWN THE COPYRIGHT TO BOTH. I HAVE BEEN TWO YEARS TRYING TO GET IT ON WIKIPEDIA WHICH IS NOT THE MOST USER FRIENDLY ARTICLE CREATION APPLICATION. SO I CREATED MY OWN WEB SITE 4 WEEKS AGO USING THE COPY FROM THE WIKIPEDIA DRAFT. NO POINT REINVENTING THE WHEEL. CHECK THE DATES. I HAVE JUST CHANGED THE USER NAME ON WIKIPEDIA WHICH YOU OBJECTED TO AFTER 2 YEARS OF DRAFTING AND NOW NEED TO FIX UP THE IN LINE REFERENCE NUMBERS AND IT IS FINISHED AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED READY FOR PUBLISHING UNLESS YOU CAN HELP FORMAT IT BETTER BY RECOMMENDING, SAY, HOW TO GET THE PHOTOS BETTER ARRANGED OR EMBEDDED BETWEEN THE TEXT PARAGRAPHS. 10 NEWSPAPER REFERENCES MAKES IT NOTABLE.

IT IS ALSO THE SISTER ORGANISATION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND REGIMENT, THE ARMY EQUIVALENT OF THE RAAF QUS. IF BEING PART OF THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT'S DEFENCE STRUCTURE IS NOT NOTABLE, WHAT IS?

LANDatQUS FORMERLY QUSRAAFCAF (CORRECTION)

YOU SEEM TO HAVE MISSED MY POINT. THE ORIGINAL COPY WAS FOR THE WIKIPEDIA SITE. THAT WAS COPIED BY ME FOR THE .ORG SITE.

SO THERE IS NO BREACH OF COPYRIGHT. WIKIPEDIA HAS THE ORIGINAL. AS I SAID BEFORE, WIKIPEDIA WAS FIRST IN LINE!

FURTHER, IF I WANT TO USE MY OWN COPY ON ANY OTHER WEB/PUBLICATION THAT IS NOT THE BUSINESS OF WIKIPEDIA AND REASON FOR WIKIPEDIA TO DELETE MY DRAFT COPY OR FOR ME TO FOLLOW ANY WIKIPEDIA PROTOCOL ON REDRAFTING THE ORIGINAL. 23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)QUSRAAFCAF (talk) 23:05, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Guys,QUSRAAFCAF here....

Thanks for the dialogue.

I have just done the link for name change to LANDatQUS.

Can't find the draft for editing in my account as yet. Maybe it takes a few days?

I do appreciate any help like formatting and navigating the wikipedia procedures as I am not only a first time user but at my age likely not to ever attempt this again. I was just frustrated enough to give up but will keep trying to get my act together by trial & error!

I haven't seen "anotherclown's" edits. I have some more copy/photos for interest to enter from my dot org page which may enrich the Wik.draft and then let's see if it passes the quality hurdle.

Contributions/ideas welcome......Thanks again..............................
Gday. My edits so far can be seen here [1]. Of course I'm happy to discuss anything you disagree with / don't understand. I've got to head to bed shortly but will be back tomorrow and will try to provide you with some suggestions to assist with getting this article up to the req'd standard to be accepted. FYI yesterday I started an article called RAAF University Squadrons in the mainspace which provides some (admittedly limited) background to the individual squadrons, although it is only fairly basic at this point and is in need of expansion but may be a project for some time down the track. Lastly, when typing messages on talk pages (like this one) pls remember to finish by signing your signature (this achieved by adding ~~~~ at the end of your message. This just allows other users to see who is saying what on the page. Kind regards. Anotherclown (talk) 14:06, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

to Anotherclown... from LANDatQUS formerly QUSRAAFCAF.....The draft as edited is so much better please continue. I can only further add relevant photos as shown on the http://www.queenslanduniversitysquadron.org web page. I think the RAAF official black & white plus the parade in front of the UofQ, shield could be value added at least. If you agree please advise how I can get these &/or any others into your revised draft. You can edit out any not worthwhile. I am then happy to withdraw from the process. Your professional approach/knowledge has shown me how far out of my depth I am all be well intended.

I think there is room for both a generic Australian University Squadrons entry as well as individual University Squadrons to enable more focused detail without becoming information overload in the generic site? Thanks.... LANDatQUS— Preceding unsigned comment added by LANDatQUS (talkcontribs) 00:27, 11 April 2015

Hello LANDatQUS. Yes some of those images you mention do look quite good, I guess the only question I have is in regards to copyright. Did you take the photos yourself (specifically the squadron crest and UQ quadrangle shot)? If you did then you should be able to upload them to Wikimedia Commons like you did with the others in the gallery. If not then we probably won't be able to use them too easily - although it might be possible to upload the image of the Squadron Crest using a Wikipedia:Fair use rationale which I can attempt to help you with once we have established the details of who owns the copyright etc. Also I agree that there is probably sufficient information to have a generic RAAF University Squadrons entry as well as more detailed squadron pages, but only as long as there is significant coverage in reliable sources for the squadrons themselves. Ultimately this may differ for each squadron. For instance whilst there does appear to be sources to support an article for QUS (although it is still a little thin and other editors might disagree with my opinion) I haven't seen much out there for any of the other squadrons so there might not be enough for them. It might take the efforts of a former member of one of these other squadrons to pull together the sources to develop articles on them (like you did for QUS). FOR ANOTHERCLOWN FROM LANDatQUS.

re photos. Many are my copyright. B&W are to be credited to "RAAF Official Photos section", I have written permission for most of the others but have asked for written permission for the balance. I'll let you know when I hear back. Ditto on the medal issue query.

Will need to make official contact with other State Uvi sqnds via RAAFA in each State but that can wait until we have a precedent with QUS.

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted because it included copyrighted information, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. You are welcome to write an article on the subject, but please do not use copyrighted work. Huon (talk) 10:46, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Huon: - Gday. Not sure if you realised but I actually made quite a number of edits to this draft, right before it was deleted it seems. I noticed the article at AFC a few days ago needing some assistance so I added a reference to a book that includes material on the subject, as well has making some copyedits, and working on the markup / formatting issues. I intended on working on the copyright issue next. In light of this notification of myself that the draft was up for deletion might have been reasonable to expect as I may have been able to salvage my contributions at least (which were not copyright violations). Oh well several hours of my work down the drain it seems (along with several years of someone else's). Anotherclown (talk) 12:04, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted the page seven hours after you made the latest changes to it, and before I deleted it I checked that it still was so closely paraphrased that it violated copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. If you want me to I can send you a copy of the deleted page, but it will need significant rewriting to comply with the copyright policy. Changing a word here and there is not enough. Huon (talk) 19:26, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: - no need for the attitude or the templated links to policy mate, I've been an editor on Wikipedia for over 6 years so I understand the significance of copyright issues; however, in this case there wasn't any urgency. Specifically you will note from User:QUSRAAFCAF's explanation above that he is in fact the person that wrote the website that this article is supposedly a copy of, and he did it nearly two years AFTER the draft was originally submitted to Articles for Creation (i.e. the website was created a month or so ago using the content that was on Wikipedia as a draft since 2013, so a reverse or backwards copy). No idea if that is grounds for undelete and I don't really care at any rate. Personally though I think this is just one of a number of instances of fairly poor treatment of an inexperienced / new user (i.e. User:QUSRAAFCAF) who has clearly been attempting to comply with Wikipedia's rather complicated processes and policies with ZERO help from anyone with any experience. I came across the article by chance just before you deleted it (with no knowledge that that was your intention) and spent several hours making improvements, including adding a number of references and rewriting some parts, and intended to come back to try to get this one over the line IRT copyright and notability. I don't think its too much to ask to be notified as a significant contributor if you planned on deleting it. All that said - yes, I would like a copy of the deleted page. I am not certain if QUS on its own is sufficiently notable, although all the university squadrons together may well be, so I think parts of it may be salvageable. As such please userfy it for me. Anotherclown (talk) 08:13, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On an entirely unrelated note, you seem not to have requested the username change yet. Please do so immediately or you may be blocked again. Huon (talk) 20:15, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User:Huon I am assuming this is directed at User:QUSRAAFCAF and not me. @QUSRAAFCAF: do you require some assistance with this? If so pls let me know and I will attempt to guide you through this process. Anotherclown (talk) 08:13, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
QUSRAAFCAF, I'm sorry, this was indeed my mistake. I have undeleted the draft and apologize for the inconvenience.
Anotherclown, apparently my work here was consistently not up to standards, and I managed to confuse you with QUSRAAFCAF, writing a reply intended for a newcomer who might have been unfamiliar with Wikipedia's stance on copyright (there was nothing templated about that message or its links, though). I'm sorry for that, too. Huon (talk) 20:05, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
QUSRAAFCAF, to explain the username issue in somewhat more detail: You were blocked for your current username, and you suggested a new username as part of your request to get unblocked. But due to what basically amounts to bureaucratic red tape, that's not enough to actually get the name changed. Now that you're unblocked and can edit pages other than this talk page again, please add a username change request at WP:Changing username/Simple. Huon (talk) 20:11, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the "Reserve Force Defense Medal" mentioned in the QUS draft

[edit]

Gday again. The article states: "Other QUS members received the Reserve Force Defense Medal". I'm just a little confused about whether this is quite right. It might simply be a case of my ignorance but I've not heard of the "Reserve Force Defense Medal". Wikipedia doesn't seem to have an article on this award and I can't find anything from a search on the internet, so I'm wondering if this might be a typo. Or was this an award that was previously awarded to reserve force personnel that has been superseded in the last few decades? If it is a typo possible candidates might be either the Reserve Force Decoration or the Reserve Force Medal (AFAIK both of these were introduced in 1982 but were replaced in 2002 by the Defence Long Service Medal). Is it possible you meant one or both of these? If you did I will correct the draft. Anotherclown (talk) 04:19, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

to anotherclown....Checking my source. Will get back soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LANDatQUS (talkcontribs) 07:48, 11 April 2015
I checked Michael Maton's book "The National Honours and Awards of Australia" p. 83 which has a bit on reserve forces awards and it would seem that the "Reserve Force Medal" is probably the correct name of this medal. As such I've made that change now; however, if you could go back and check your sources at some point just to make sure I have got this correct that would be greatly appreciated. If I need to change it to something else please of course let me know. Cheers. Anotherclown (talk) 02:44, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article has been created

[edit]

Hello again LANDatQUS. Just to let you know your draft article has been accepted and has now been created. Unfortunately it has taken awhile but we got there in the end! If you wish to work on it further it can be found at Queensland University Squadron. Congratulations and thank you for persevering for so long to get this information included in Wikipedia. On a personal note (as a former UQ student and an Army Officer who served in QUR and then the Regular Army) I'd often wondered about QUS and the University Squadrons and wondered why we didn't have an article on them. Anyway if you have any questions about contributing further pls contact me and I'll do my best to assist. All the best. Anotherclown (talk) 22:53, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

to anotherclown....Many thanks. I was ready to quit and just rely on the dot org web page which was much easier to get the message out for posterity. Ex QUS members are getting a bit old now. I was a UofQ graduate/postgrad and ex QUS instructor who moved on into the professional accounting World now long retired. Thought it would be good to get some records indelibly down before all is lost to history and dementia. Photos are as scarce as hens teeth already. Will stay in touch with minor refinements/edits as I get info/copyright from members. I'll discuss liaison about other State units at ANZAC day march.LANDatQUS (talk) 00:06, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly a worthy project. Having the dot org web page is probably a good thing anyway as it will be your best bet for regular updates of the QUS Branch's more routine activities as given Wikipedia's rules about notability etc it is possible that some of those events might not qualify for inclusion so we will just need to be careful not to fall afoul of that. Regards. Anotherclown (talk) 02:50, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question about where QUS was based

[edit]

Hello again. In the article you mention UQ's George Street Campus. Did QUS always operate from there or did they end up moving to St Lucia at some point? Thanks again. Anotherclown (talk) 03:04, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Anotherclown....

This might take some time. So far dates are difficult but it appears so far that QUS operated from;-
UoQ St Lucia,(1950 to ??)
WWII huts , Gardens Point, George St, ( previously referred to as UoQ campus?   ?? to 1958 )
RAAF Base No7 SD, Archerfield, ( from 1958?)

RAAF Base Alice St CBD BRisbane .( from  ?? to 1973.. now a freeway access ramp and parking for QUT). I will keep asking around to get it right. LANDatQUS LANDatQUS (talk) 23:43, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, LANDatQUS. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Queensland University Squadron".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Queensland University Squadron}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 18:42, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SORRY ABOUT THAT. I AM FINISHED WITH THE CREATION. "ANOTHERCLOWN" DID A FANTASTIC JOB HELPING ME. CAN IT BE NOW LOCKED IN AS FINALISED?
