[edit] You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 14:00, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Adding the name of Pune in devanagari
[edit]The word पुणे should be written below in the space provided for native place as that is how Pune is written in the native language and in Devanagari script. Prat1212 (talk) 14:07, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
However, you might have noticed the clear warning against doing so in the infobox section, that is in compliance with WikiProject India's policy on adding Indic scripts. Unless you want to have Pune's page removed from the WikiProject India, we better comply with their recommendation. You are also welcome to translate the entire page on marathi wikipedia.
Please refer to: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India#Indic_scripts_in_lead https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/India-related_articles#Indic_scripts_in_leads_and_infoboxes Berlindian (talk) 14:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I tried searching the Wiki Project policy after reading in the infobox but I didn't find it. Also I wanted the Devanagari name as most of the places have their native names written on their respective Wikipedia pages for example Spain. There the native spelling is also provided. And Pune now being one of the most recognizable city in India and the world I felt the Devanagari name should also be written.
Reply: Adding Devnagari
[edit]I have posted the links already and I am going to post them again: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India#Indic_scripts_in_lead https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/India-related_articles#Indic_scripts_in_leads_and_infoboxes
If you still cannot find the policy (for which you need to scroll down till indic script), here's the text: Avoid the use of Indic scripts in the lead sections or infoboxes. Instead, use International Phonetic Alphabet pronunciation guides, which are more international. Exceptions are articles on the script itself, articles on a language that uses the script, and articles on texts originally written in a particular script.
Spain does not fall under WikiProject India, and as much as I love the Marathi language, WikiProject India's policy asks you to avoid it. Starting an edit war is definitely not the answer in any case. Berlindian (talk) 14:54, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I did read the policy after you posted it here the first time. Also Spain was just an example. But anyway. Also you might have realized the edit war(I didn't realize that it was an edit war) was for other things as well. Pune is not pronounced as Poonah internationally. The links that were provided in the first sentence of the page said it is pronounced as Poonah and hence one had to delete those as Pune is pronounced as Poo-nay. It's not about the language. It's about mentioning the right things.
reply
[edit]I understand. I was trying to look up references for that edit. Although, the user has mentioned it as a former spelling and not pronunciation, please note that there's a difference. I would suggest adding a 'citation needed' tag in the future for entries that seem dubious to you, removing them is not the way, unless you have references to support your claim. And 'edit war' is an answer for nothing. Also, it is a nice idea to write why you're making the change providing explanation. I had no idea that you were reverting my changes simultaneously, and because of that I cannot edit the page any further. [edit]Citation needed point noted. Also as mentioned earlier I didn't realize it was an edit war. I didn't even know the term until I got the notification. And yes, even I didn't realize you were reverting the changes I made. Also the page is locked for editing even for the people who don't have an account. No idea for how long that's going to be. Prat1212 (talk) 15:28, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Sad indeed. Not to mention all the changes I or someone else made to make the article better since 6 April 2018 have been reverted. That included some hard to find references, grammar edits, etc. :( I would also suggest, that rather than fighting about who calls the city what, it'd be in the pages's interest to edit and reference all the available information and to add more information with proper references. That is, if the page is not locked indefinitely. As far as the name in Devnagari is considered, please look at the pages of all major indian cities, including especially the southern cities like Bangalore, Chennai, where their names are not mentioned in the native scripts. (That's what i did btw when i wanted to enter the name in Devanagri). Please also not that certain policies, if specifically mentioned, are meant for consistency within the article and wikipedia. In the end, I hope that the page is available for edits in the future. Berlindian (talk) 16:04, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Badminton
[edit]I saw that you added Badminton as an indigenous Indian sport in the article on Maharashtra.I know the game was developed by the British in Pune during the 1870s.Does that make it indigenous?Let me know your thoughts on the matter. Thanks,Jonathansammy (talk) 16:45, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
I just now checked the definition of indigenous and it says occurring'naturally'. So maybe it's not an indigenous Indian sport. So it should be deleted, right?
Yes,it should be deleted. However, there is badminton ball game which might be indigenous to Tamilnadu but not Maharashtra and I would say closer to tennis.Thanks.Jonathansammy (talk) 18:25, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from The Asiatic Society of Mumbai into The Asiatic Society of Mumbai Town Hall. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Jethalal Gada
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jethalal Gada requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jethalal Gada. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Praxidicae (talk) 19:52, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
How do I contact the deleting administrator? The log shows some administrator who deleted the page Jethalal Gada on 11th Sept 2019 and not 9th Oct 2019. How do I contact the admininstrator who deleted the page Jethalal Gada on 9th Oct 2019? Prat1212 (talk) 20:11, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm SummerPhDv2.0. I noticed that you recently removed content from Joey Tribbiani without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. That was done to maintain uniformity among the six characters infoboxes, as none of the other characters have their 'full name' in their respective infoboxes. Prat1212 (talk) 20:21, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:37, 15 October 2019 (UTC) Hello, Diannaa. I had written the article in my own words. There might have a been a sentence or two which were same, but I did take care to not write the exact same sentences as the source and I had used the source only for information. You could have notified me about the sentences that were 'exactly same' instead of deleting the whole page. This is sad. Prat1212 (talk) 15:44, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hello again. I double checked, and it looks like you actually copied it mostly from the Wikipedia page Lalbaugcha Raja. Sorry for the mistake. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original author(s). In the future, please at minimum mention in an edit summary at the new page where you got the content. You tagged this as a copyright violation. I've had a look and I'm uncertain if this isn't a WP:BACKWARDSCOPY where the website has copied Wikipedia, not the other way round as the earliest version of the website I can find is 2018 - well after the creation of this article. If you think it is a copyright violation then you need to remove the offending material before requesting revision deletion, this is to ensure that two people have compared the content before it is removed from the public records. Nthep (talk) 18:14, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
An article you recently created, Bhau Beej, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
