November 2022

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contribution(s). I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, while user talk pages permit a small degree of generalisation, other talk pages such as Talk:Tornado outbreak of November 4–5, 2022 are strictly for discussing improvements to their associated main pages, and many of them have special instructions on the top. They are not a general discussion forum about the article's topic or any other topic. If you have questions or ideas and are not sure where to post them, consider asking at the Teahouse. Thanks. Possible F5/EF5 tornadoes list discussions

[edit]

Hey Poodle23. I wanted to see if you would be interesting in providing comments/participating in the discussions about the List of F5 and EF5 tornadoes’ section about possible F5/EF5 tornadoes rated lower. There is a huge page (Talk:List of F5 and EF5 tornadoes/Discussion) where each tornado being considered for inclusion on the list is discussed. Some of the discussions have already been formally closed, but other are still open. So I wanted to let you know about them and see if you would be interested in participating in them. Elijahandskip (talk) 19:30, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Uhh, sure. I'll probably be able to add at least 2-4 tornadoes. But i'm probably not gonna do anything right now. Poodle23 (talk) 19:50, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Holidays!

Some template help

[edit]

Hey! I wanted to ask if you could help me get two templates up-to-date. Template:Deadliest meteorological events in 2022 & Template:Deadliest U.S. meteorological events in 2022. I’m not sure what all is missing from them, but I’m certain they aren’t truly accurate. Elijahandskip (talk) 02:11, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! Poodle23 (talk) 14:04, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually nevermind, idk what to edit and your brain might just be playing with you. Poodle23 (talk) 14:12, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent ping

[edit]

Just want to let you know I cannot participate in the discussion you just pinged me in because I am topic-banned from weather pages as a result of the ArbCom decision last year. Please be mindful of that, and I would gladly appreciate it if my name was removed from that discussion. Hope you understand what I’m saying. What happened? Poodle23 (talk) 17:44, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not attack other editors. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. United States Man (talk) 17:05, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was not attacking you. I was saying, that in my personal opinion, you sounded like you were using a bit of WP:IJDLI. There was no way that was breaking or borderlining WP:NPA. It was also a talk page discussion which people could see, not your talk page, which kinda batters down the argument of NPA. A use of ad hominem was not seeable from my point of view, although I will admit I went a little too far with the message concerning you and the Xenia tornado AfD, and will try my best to not do that again. Poodle23 (talk) 18:51, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You really shouldn't try to point stuff out like that during a discussion. It takes away from the topic being discussed and can derail the purpose of what the project stands for. We are a small group and internal strife is not good for us, especially after what happened earlier this month. ChessEric (talk · contribs) 18:07, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contribution(s). I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, while user talk pages permit a small degree of generalisation, other talk pages such as Talk:Tornadoes of 2023 are strictly for discussing improvements to their associated main pages, and many of them have special instructions on the top. They are not a general discussion forum about the article's topic or any other topic. If you have questions or ideas and are not sure where to post them, consider asking at the Teahouse. Thanks. United States Man (talk) 20:04, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from using talk pages such as Talk:Tornadoes of 2023 for general discussion of this or other topics. They are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways, based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines; they are not for use as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See the talk page guidelines for more information. Thank you. United States Man (talk) 22:27, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fine. I'll start up a discussion later, when we see the Day 3 and/or Day 2 outlooks; that is, if it's notable enough. Poodle23 (talk) 00:57, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Discussing anything that isn't related to specific article content (and especially discussing an event beforehand) would still fail WP:NOTFORUM and WP:CRYSTAL. Repeated offenses after warnings will get moved along to noticeboards. United States Man (talk) 01:08, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Discussing an event beforehand? We've done that before. Poodle23 (talk) 01:55, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes and it is against policy. It just shouldn't be done. Not my rule, but Wikipedia's. United States Man (talk) 02:20, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then why did we do it, like, a million times before? Poodle23 (talk) 13:12, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November 2023

[edit]

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Jeanne Calment, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the first author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Peaceray (talk) 17:48, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. Thank you for clarifying my mistake. I've gotten a bit rusty at WP editing since I went on a half-hiatus. Poodle23 (talk) 18:19, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Poodle23. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "January 2023 North American storm complex".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 17:17, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ok. at this point you can just delete all my abandoned drafts. I don't edit WP anymore, so I don't care what happens. Poodle23 (talk) 21:55, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! I am sending this alert to all members of the WikiProject Weather and editors who have recently edited in the realm of tornadoes.

There is a large and important discussion ongoing, with the goal to completely overhaul and improve the List of F5 and EF5 tornadoes. The previous improvement attempt back in 2022/2023 gained almost no participation. This alert is being sent out so these discussions hopefully gain a reasonably-sized participation, so the F5/EF5 tornado article, one of the most viewed weather-related articles on Wikipedia, can be improved for all readers!

If you wish to participate, please visit: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Weather/Possible F5/EF5/IF5 tornadoes. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 16:12, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
