Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Stephen Hillenburg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ABC (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Books & Bytes New Years Double Issue
Happy New Year, and welcome to a special double issue of Books & Bytes. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!
The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:
- Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
- Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
- New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers
- Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
- Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
- Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting
SpongeBob - Ephemeral segments
Hi, Mediran. I noticed this edit by United States Man, which drew my attention to the 356 segments summary, and I thought I'd solicit your thoughts about the following matter: I know you worked out a great solution for updating episodes across multiple articles without having to go to each article and make the change, via an "episode count template". If we leave behind an ongoing "segments" count, it seems to confuse things. For example, the article currently mentions 356 segments aired, but is that an old number? Is there any value to creating a new "segment count template" or are we wasting time listing segments, per this discussion? Related, I'm not sure that United States Man's contribution is useful, as we don't explain how a "full" episode differs from any other episode. I will be cutting that. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:32, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Cyphoidbomb! Thanks for your opinion. Anyway, I added the segment count because its mention is needed. The article should introduce the total segments in the series. I don't see any reason not to add that despite that discussion. The problem in the discussion is that the word "individual" is said to be redundant and "(totaling 356 eleven minute segments)" is inappropriate because not all segments are 11-min long, etc. I think "189 episodes (357 segments)" is enough. If it is ephemeral, it can be changed pronto. What do you think? Thanks. Mediran (t • c) 04:02, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I cited the wrong discussion. The newer discussion started here. I can't say that the discussion inspired any contrary discussion, but so far there are two editors (myself included) who think that an ongoing "segments" tally may be unnecessary. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:24, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- Why? The show is a show that has episodes that are split into at least two segments. That is a major aspect of it. Also, it is not WP:OR because that is just another way to tally the count. If it is OR, then we should also remove the "189" count. Mediran (t • c) 07:07, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't feel so strongly about it to make a stink. I yield. :) Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:58, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Improperly sourced SpongeBob eps
Hi Mediran, I wanted to get your feedback. At SpongeBob SquarePants (season 9) these episodes are listed, but when I double-check the sources I see a general page like this one that says "Upcoming TV Show times" and "No upcoming shows found!" Should we delete these or do you have better sources?
- 190a 12a "Dueling Picnics" TBA TBA — —
- SpongeBob convinces Mr. Krabs to hold the Krusty Krab's first annual company picnic.[79]
- 190b 12b "Krabs' Army" TBA TBA — —
- Mr. Krabs thinks that the boys are slacking on the job and puts them through his personal boot camp.[80]
- 191 13 "SpaceBob InvaderPants" TBA TBA — —
- SpongeBob and Patrick become obsessed with making contact with extraterrestrial life, they ask Sandy to build a device that transmits the luring smell of : Krabby Patties.[81]
Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:42, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- I was also thinking to remove those episodes from the list because there are really no sources, aside from public forums like "http://www.sbmania.net/forums/topic/36866-new-episodes-airing-in-australia/" and "http://www.thesbcommunity.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10047-new-episodes-revealed-by-australia-schedule/". The source they found was that the episodes are set to air Jan 11/3PM. Yet, there are no other sources confirming it. I checked the US Copyright Office but found no results about it. I say remove it until those "episodes" are officially announced. Thanks. Mediran (t • c) 10:35, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll cut 'em. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:23, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Best Day Ever copyedit
I'm going to begin copyediting this article now. I'll check in with updates :) -Newyorkadam (talk) 14:34, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Newyorkadam
I'm going to be doing this like a GA review, I hope you don't mind... I think it'll help :)
- "In the episode, SpongeBob is determined to have a perfect day starting with doing what he loves best." What does he love doing best?
- Removed "starting with ..."
- I read online that Patrick broke not only his own net but SpongeBob's too, and that SpongeBob gave patrick his new set. This isn't mentioned in the article.
- Added.
- "Determined not to miss out on this activity as he had done with the others" This line confuses me. In the plot summary, he didn't miss out on any activities other than with Patrick. Or do you mean he missed some of Squidward's other recitals?
- What had happened was that SpongeBob missed his activities when he had to help his friends with their problems. So, that's that.
- "The featured song "The Best Day Ever" was composed by Tom Kenny, SpongeBob's voice actor, and Andy Paley.[3] The song was originally a part of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack that was released on November 9, 2004.[4][5][6] At the time, Kenny, with Paley, worked for an album, on what would become The Best Day Ever album, with songs "The Best Day Ever" and "Under My Rock".[7] The team of the 2004 feature film needed two extra filler tracks for the film soundtrack.[7] Eventually, Stephen Hillenburg, the series creator and director of the film, heard the songs and decided to put it on the soundtrack.[7] "The Best Day Ever" was played during the closing credits of the film which was never intended.[7]" This paragraph confuses me. It needs some rewording. It's not clear which movie it was originally for, which it was actually used in, etc. The line that I bolded is the most unclear. I would fix this paragraph but I'm sure you know better than I about what's correct.
- Thanks. However, I know you can fix this. The song was released on The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack. Originally, Kenny and Paley were writing songs on the then-The Best Day Ever album. At the time, during the production of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, the team needed two more tracks. When Hillenburg heard the songs, he decided to add it on the soundtrack and be played in the film credits.
- "Throughout the month of November, Nick Hotel released a "Best Day Ever" package to its guests starting at $369." What did the package include?
- I don't really know. I can't find any sources saying what the package included.
Done past 'Production' section!
- "Originally, Kenny and Paley were working on a "Brian Wilson-esque" song with "Brian Wilson-esque" background vocals on it. Kenny said "[...]and at the last minute, we had this opportunity to reach out to him and ask if he'd do it[...] But Brian's people said he was going on to Hawaii the next day with his wife and kids, and then going on the road." Eventually, Kenny got a call from Wilson saying that "I loved the idea."" So, what'd they end up doing?
- Added.
- I can't find the artist for the last song ("The Best Day Ever/Bonus Material" ) but I think it should be there.
- According to this link by Artistdirect, that is a multimedia track. I think it's just OK to not have the writing credits for that song.
- I don't understand why the section about the reception is called 'Critical reception' when there's barely anything negative mentioned in it. I'd suggest just calling it 'Reception'.
- Done.
- I think you should add a negative review to the 'Reception' (at the moment called 'Critical reception') section. This way you have a mix of positive and negative reviews, rather than mostly positive.
- Sorry, I can't find any negative reviews.
- The second paragraph in the 'Reception' section (not the album one, the episode one) is taken almost word for word from the reference.
- Fix.
- You have viewing statistics in the episode's 'Reception' section but you don't mention critic reception and/or fan reception.
- Will add that.
- I saw in your request for the copyedit that you think the 'Plot summary' section is too long. I think it's the right size, and everything mentioned in it is important to the episode.
- Wow, thanks for that.
I think that's it. I'm going to put this Good Article review on hol- oh wait... :P -Newyorkadam (talk) 21:06, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Newyorkadam
P.S. You've inspired me to try and get Mr. Krabs to GA. This'll be fun :) -Newyorkadam (talk) 19:07, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Newyorkadam
- Thanks Newyorkadam for this. I have added what was suggested and please take a look to the article again to see and well correct the prose of some of my additions. Good luck on getting Mr. Krabs to GA! ;) Mediran (t • c) 11:34, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Looks great! I suggest you look over my changes to the paragraph about the album (second paragraph of the 'Production' section) to make sure they're correct. -Newyorkadam (talk) 12:23, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Newyorkadam

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive
It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Hi. Thanks for your work on the article, but did you not see the banner on the top, asking other editors not to work on this article while we're going through it on a copy edit basis? Please don't do any more editing until the banner is replaced. It's just that sometimes this can lead to editing conflicts... especially if a section is taking a long time to go through. Thanks for your patience. It's a long article (and dear to my heart), so I want to take my time with it. Onel5969 (talk) 17:54, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry if that's the case. I'm sure my edits didn't cause you conflict/confusion as I only added some sources and some prose way below. Sorry, and thanks and thanks for your c/e works! — Mediran [talk] 03:07, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- No worries. No they hadn't yet, as they were all later in the article. I just didn't want it to happen. I'm about a quarter way through, won't get much done tomorrow (Mother's Day), but will most likely finish on Tuesday or Wednesday. Onel5969 (talk) 03:31, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- However, is it all right for me to add some info not yet covered in the article? — Mediran [talk] 06:30, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- The best thing would be to hold off until I finish the c/e.Onel5969 (talk) 12:23, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Okay, only the last two sections to go. I just finished the copy edit on the "Home release" sub-section. I did it in two edits, since I had to delete several sentences which did not make sense, and therefore I couldn't copy edit. One was uncited, and the other one had a citation which didn't seem to refer to the material. You might want to take a look at that change. Onel5969 (talk) 23:51, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- @Mediran: - Okay, the c/e edit is done. Thanks for your patience. If you don't mind, I may go in and do some stylistic edits, perhaps do some research, etc... Onel5969 (talk) 02:12, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Onel5969 for your copyedits. It was really a big help to the article's improvement to FA-class. Also, I would appreciate your future edits to the article! Thanks again. — Mediran [talk] 07:11, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Just finished the copy edit. If you don't mind, I one suggestion, and one thing I'd like to point out in the edit:
- First, I think you need to combine the early life and ed section with the early career section, they overlap, particularly the CalArts part.
- Second, in several quotations, I changed the capitalization of the first word, since in the sentence structure the word should not be capitalized. However, I put the changed letter in brackets, since it was changed from the original, but that is a matter of opinion, some say the brackets are unnecessary. Good luck. The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed
Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.
It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. If you're interested in helping out, please drop a note in the next week at my talk page or shoot me an email at: jorlowitzgmail.com.
