Kerry Senior Football Championship has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this list was of dubious importance and lacked sufficient context to help readers. Please review WP:GTL and WP:NOT for pointers. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.
If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the prod notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. NickelShoe 04:05, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Naomh Abán GAA, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on New York Junior Football Championship, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -FisherQueen (Talk) 12:57, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Cats and sub-cats
[edit]Hi PMUnited. I've noticed of late that you've been adding cats (in particular the "Sport in Cork" cat) to several pages, where the article in question is already categorised in a "sub-cat" of "Sport in Cork". This is redundant categorisation. If an article is already in a relevant sub-cat, there is no need to also include it in the parent cat. So, if adding cats in future, please check that the categorisation is not duplicate or redundant. Le meas. Guliolopez 19:05, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Kerry Novice Football Championship
[edit]An editor has nominated Kerry Novice Football Championship, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kerry Novice Football Championship and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 23:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Kanturk GAA
[edit]Hi
Well done creating a stub article on Kanturk GAA, but if you don't want it to be deleted, you will need to add more information than just uts name and location, and preferably include references per WP:V.
Also, even a stub article needs to be categorised -- in this case under Category:Gaelic Athletic Association clubs in County Cork. And being a stub article, it shpoukd also have a stub tag to indicate that it needs expansion: in this case, {{gaelic-games-club-stub}}
Without the category or the stub tag, the article won't be spotted by other editors as being in need of improvement. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:22, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Famous players
[edit]Hi. Can you please consider not adding a section titled "Famous players" to all GAA club pages. There are several issues with these sections. Most derive from the fact that the term "famous" is inherently problematic in terms of POV. (Do we define "famous" as locally notable? Nationally well-known? Internationally famous? Inter-county call-up? All-star? What?) Not only does this cause problems in terms of the Wikipedia NPOV policies, but it also lends these sections to all kinds of abuse or "good faith" additions. (By editors who - as we have seen - will add in all kinds of NN people who meet their definition of "famous".) You should therefore either consider not adding these sections AT ALL. Or consider relabelled/repurposing them to deal with a SPECIFICALLY DEFINED set of players. Like labelling the section "Intercounty players" or "All stars" or whatever. The "Famous" label however has to go. Guliolopez (talk) 11:23, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

The article St. Mary's GAA has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Does not appear to meet notability requirements, no primary sources
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Eeekster (talk) 00:14, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
The article Kevin Kehily has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Codf1977 (talk) 16:05, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Kevin Kehily. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. The BLP Prod template (Uunlike the normal PROD one) should not be removed unless the article has at least one source. Codf1977 (talk) 16:10, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Please specify what links I have removed. None of the people who make this allegation have never backed up their statement. I will accept if I made a mistake, but please tell me where. Pmunited (talk) 02:05, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Are you going to back-up your allegations? There have been several other similar allagations by individuals and not one has the courage to specify what their position is? In fact, most have made no contribution to Wikipedia. I think if you look, you will see that I have contributed a lot to Cork GAA and several other counties. I have added articles for many GAA clubs, particurily in Cork, but throughout the country. I have helped to update lists of winners for many football & hurling competitions, and also Women's Football. I note that you contribute to the camogie pages, and I think the contributors here have done a magnificent job. My one complaint here, is that there is almost too much information. We probably do not need to know the referees for all the All-Ireland finals, and they almost certainly do not merit articles here in Wikipedia. Pmunited (talk) 13:56, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about that -- I restored the article later. utcursch | talk 18:26, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ballinora GAA
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Ballinora GAA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Shanballymore GAA
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Shanballymore GAA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
A few thoughts on under-referenced GAA articles
[edit]Hi Pmunited
I replied to your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Munster Junior Club Football Championship, spotted your note at WP:GAA, and prompted by that did some looking at your contribs.
What I see is a lot of articles which you have created or expanded without proper references. Few of them have footnotes, many of them have no refs other than to the GAA club concerned. The recently-created Ballintubber GAA is a good example: no footnotes, only source is the club website. That is not adequate verification of the facts asserted, and it doesn't establish notability.
I know that there are many other very weak articles on GAA topics, and I certainly don't want to imply that you are responsible for more than a small proportion of them. But as you will have seen from the recent deluge of AFDs and PRODs, the poor standard of so many GAA articles leaves them very at risk of deletion, and some of your recent creations would be very hard to defend at AFD.
So I just wanted to suggest that you might want to consider whether it would be a good idea to a WP:GAA article improvement drive. That may not be something you are interested in ... but I suggest it because you seem to be a GAA-focused editor and because I am concerned that after so many years of so many poorly sourced GAA articles being created, we could see huge swathes of them deleted if someone took time to scrutinise them. I don't have the time to do itself, and sport isn't really my cup of tea, and just wanted to throw out a suggestion to someone who I know cares about the GAA.
I hope that helps. Good luck! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:17, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

The deletion discussion is linked from all of the County Derry categories. Brocach (talk) 22:55, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Munster Junior Cup for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Munster Junior Cup is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Munster Junior Cup until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Mr. Guye (talk) 02:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of St. Ita's GAA
[edit]The article St. Ita's GAA has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Was tagged for WP:GNG since 2008. It also doesn't meet WP:ORG since it lacks independent secondary sources about the subject. In fact, the only source listed here only briefly mentions the club twice, and only because a famous player played for them.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Aerospeed (Talk) 13:19, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

National Hurling and Football Leagues
[edit]Hi. I am just wondering why you removed my additions to these pages, deeming them irrelevant? I attend a lot of these games and there are often people at them unfamiliar with our sports, many being visitors to Ireland going to their first games. I often getting talking to them, welcome them and answer questions they may have. After getting explanations on the general rules they are then interested in the significance of a game they are at. Explaining the structure of the leagues including the way there is not a standard home/away pair of games, that the competition becomes a knockout towards the end and that our league is less important than our cup, to use a term for the championship that they might better understand, is of interest to them. Even for people with more interest, the nature of the fixtures and structures is of interest. Even some better GAA fans don't take much interest in the league and so are not as familiar with its structures as some of us. Also, the leagues change their structures frequently. Even what I added will need to be updated next year when the proposed abolition of semi-finals in the football league is implemented. So I do think the additions I made are relevant and should be re-instated.
I am a big GAA fan, going to a lot of matches. I've attended 77 All-Ireland Senior Hurling/Football finals alone, and a huge amount of other games. I am in Croke Park 20+ times a year, along with many other grounds around the country. So I am not a sunshine fan. I have a wide range of GAA knowledge and experience, so I hope I can contribute more to the GAA pages than I have been doing. Keep up your good work.
Flukey (talk) 10:17, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
What I can do is reinstate my edit and then remove the references to the secondary nature of the competition. I did note that it was already there, but thought I'd repeat it in the context of talking about the how the league ends. I can leave it out. Flukey (talk) 21:45, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
Dublin GAA
[edit]I don't have a full list of the Dublin county finals, just lists of winners from sites like Hill16, Clubgaa etc., which you have already. That is all you ever get in the programmes on finals day, so sourcing one of them may not be of any use either. Someone in the county board itself might be able to help. They must have a full list somewhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishFlukey (talk • contribs) 23:15, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi there.
Malachy Clerkin here from The Irish Times newspaper. You might be able to help me with a piece I want to do. I am a GAA writer and I am interested in talking to some of the people who update the GAA pages on Wikipedia. They are an amazing resource and one I rely on constantly in my work. I know plenty of others do to.
The piece I want to write is essentially telling the story of how lucky the GAA is to have such a committed group of people collating pages such as those documenting the various hurling and football championships. I don't know if there's a community of you guys or if you're in contact with each other at all. I would basically love to write a piece about how it all works. I think people in general just use Wikipedia quite mindlessly, without giving any thought as to how it comes to be at all.
Is this something you might be interested in talking to me about? My email address is malachyclerkin@gmail.com. Contact me anytime.
All the best, Malachy Duncinaire (talk) 11:12, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Duncinaire

St. Finbarr's, Togher
[edit]In fairness I do see what you are saying and yes maybe it's not necessary as where do we stop with regards every club in the country? However I personally think that with clubs who have common names with others throughout the country (i.e. clubs named after Saints etc.), simply adding the parish/village/town name also, helps to better identify where exactly the club come from.
Here are some examples of what I mean from my own county: Éire Óg, Ennis, St. Breckan's, Lisdoonvarna, St. Joseph's, Doora-Barefield, St. Joseph's, Miltown Malbay, St. Senan's, Kilkee & Wolfe Tones, Shannon.
If you would like me to remove the Togher, I have no problem with that.

Speedy deletion nomination of Beara GAA
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Beara GAA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.bearagaa.ie/content_page/354206/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. lovkal (talk) 23:34, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

References
[edit]Hiya. You're not a new editor, and so it feels a little odd pointing this out, but (as you know and per WP:VER and the similar notes above from other editors over the years) text that you add should be supported by a reliable reference. And, as the adding editor, it is your responsibility to add supporting refs. I note this because, in this edit you didn't add any reference. And, while I have since added one in this case, I note that many of your other recent changes are not supported by anything. For example, your many recent additions here are not supported by a reference. Either any of the existing ones or a new one. And so how would any editor (or reader) be expected to verify? How would anyone know where these scorelines came from and that they weren't plucked from the air? (To confirm, I'm sure they are all correct, but that's not the point. Why wouldn't you just add a note/link confirming where you got them from?) Even if you add a rough and ready link, a bot (or even another editor) can cleanup the reference. A bot (or another editor) cannot "guess" as to what source you were looking at when you wrote the text. Guliolopez (talk) 09:46, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
