Proposed deletion of Jack Whitt

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jack Whitt, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. SoSaysChappy (talk) 11:18, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Noticed prod tag was removed and that subject won a national track & field championship in pole vaulting. Seems stub is notable enough, and hopefully it'll see some expansion; no objections to the removal. Happy editing. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 19:19, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics logo.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILY (TALK) 04:17, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Berlin Champs

Hi there Philip. Just a personal note to say thanks and keep up the good work on the 2009 World Championship articles. It's good to see a number of editors helping out and adding all the information. I hope you're enjoying the championships as much as I am! Take care. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 14:08, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Michael Phelps, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Hello, regarding your edit here [1], is there some sort of consensus regarding removing attributes from the infobox? Thanks. --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 03:57, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Philipmj24. You have new messages at Omarcheeseboro's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
On a similar note ... We appreciate your being bold. However, since there is no consensus yet about removing data from Athlete infoboxes, your recent edits to Jennifer Stuczynski have been reverted. Truthanado (talk) 23:13, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Issue with signature

Hello. It appears that your wiki signature is missing a at the end. This is causing text after your sig to also appear in superscript, such as the date/time stamp and the "Template:Twitter" header here. Dear Philipmj24: You expressed puzzlement about what happened to the sections in the Hannah Kearney article. First of all, please sign your posts by typing four tildes, as explained above each edit box.

As to what happened to the sections in the article, you may follow the history of edits in the "View history" tab. You may click among versions by choosing "prev" on any edit entry. Although you appear to not be totally new to Wikipedia, perhaps you haven't explored these functions. I hope that following those steps will help you answer your own question. Sincerely, User:HopsonRoad 22:43, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Hardy 2008.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 04:12, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Solinsky clean up

Hi Philip, just a note: you seem to have undone some of my cleaning up on Chris Solinsky when you were also cleaning up. You moved some external links back into the main of the article and you also deleted information about him becoming the runner-up at the US Championships! I assume this was unintentional?

Just a couple of pointers: distances (e.g. 1500 m) should use a non-break space (&nbsp ;) between the number and the "m" or "meters" in order to stop the two elements splitting up (i.e. the number is on one line and the "m" follows on the next line all alone). When "-" is supposed to indicate "from/to" (e.g. 2009-10), an endash should be used (it's the first line thing on the "insert" toolbar. Dates should be written as May 1, and not May 1st. Personally, I'm not bothered if people don't get the format right when they're writing, but certainly if corrections are made they should not be reverted.

I'm not really sure what happened here as it seems like you didn't undo my whole edit but, nevertheless, undid most of it. The removal of the US champs info and the introduction of a spelling error ("2008 Summer Olympic") is a bit odd! I've sorted it out now and hopefully I have helped you understand why I made those changes and didn't come across as some weird formatting nerd (hopefully...!) Medal Templates

Hi, you might not be aware of Template:MedalTableTop/doc, which says that usually {{MedalCountry}} comes before {{MedalSport}}. Thanks! SeveroTC 20:08, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it is a guideline and as per WP:GUIDES:

Guidelines are sets of best practices that are supported by consensus. Editors should attempt to follow guidelines, though they are best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply.

So the question would be why wouldn't you follow it? If you disagree with the guideline, it'd probably be best to bring it up at Template talk:MedalTableTop/doc. Thanks, SeveroTC 12:26, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
I can see where you are coming from, but I think it is unwise to be editing against consensus/guideline, especially on such a large quantity and cross-section of articles. Why not take it up at Template talk:MedalTableTop/doc? SeveroTC 20:05, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh well I guess nobody there cares. Thanks for trying anyway. SeveroTC 14:25, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:34, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Making extra work for other people

Please stop wasting other people's time like this. You knew, from the RFD discussion, that it was possible to edit the redirects into articles when the time came. Instead, you chose to create a new page and waste other people's time by nominating the existing page, that you could have just edited, for deletion. Making administrators (and, indeed, every ordinary editor that does Proposed Deletion patrol) waste their time with unnecessary busywork in order to accommodate a bizarre unwillingness to edit existing pages on your part will not make you friends. Uncle G (talk) 18:24, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty easy going as a reviewer—as long as progress is being made, I'm happy to leave the review open for as long as necessary. I'll just give you a list of bullet points by section to work through at your leisure, so feel free to mark each point with {{done}} or a comment or whatever floats your boat and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions! :) Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 05:04, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

I haven't looked at the media or references yet because it's nearly 3AM, but they shouldn't take me too long at a more sociable hour. In the meantime, I've left some more comments on the review page for you to address at your leisure. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:54, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

GA reviewed. Only done the first few sections. Big issues mainly unsourced stuff. Continues all the way through. 1 week to sort the issues out or I'll politely fail it. KnowIG (talk) 17:49, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

I usually say a week to give people a kick up the backside. Of course I'm flexible if things in the real world take over. Mean I'm trying to finish a degree and have been kinda lame with this cause I said I would review it about a week ago, so it would be unfair if I did not give you the same length of rope. Well Open water and synchro could be made later. Water Polo has some information such as Brazil, Canada and the USA qualifying for the men's tournament. Oh and for country articles we do not need the main article link (compare with the Olympics for example) and the sub-article links are given later in the article. 2011 Pan American Games

Hey would you like to help with the results section of the Pan American Games in October? If so please list your name over at the talk page [2]. Thank you!

The 4 reverted edits. Well the "TBD" part is not necessary for the article, leaving it blank looks cleaner. As well the top right box is not needed, because we have the list of events on the side. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 17:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I agree the only thing I noticed was the TBD and the box, I didn't notice the breaks (which is a real good idea). Intoronto1125TalkContributions 18:32, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
By the way, if you did not see it yet, the groups for the world aquatic championships (water polo) are up, and maybe you can add the group templates to the USA article. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 18:33, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the improvements to the sub articles. Kante4 (talk) 22:27, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, we should add them as quick as possible, so it won´t take long to add the results, once you have the names it´s easy to add everything else (e.g. next rounds). Will see how my work schedule looks for the next weeks so i can help a lot. Kante4 (talk) 22:41, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Are we going to do it ---Heat 1--- ---Heat 2--- and so on OR just add the qualifiers OR add all participants but just in 1 table? From the semifinals we split them for sure but what we do at the start? Kante4 (talk) 14:14, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Don´t know why this is incorrect, seems good to me. Kante4 (talk) 22:19, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Don´t thought about that, maybe bcause it is bold. Just did it like i thought would look good, sorry if i am wrong as english is not my first language. Kante4 (talk) 22:27, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:50, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Armbrust, B.Ed. Conor Dwyer

Philip, if you work your magic with sources for the international meet times on the Conor Dwyer article, I will swoop in and finish the clean-up of the text and provide newspaper and team profile footnotes for the rest. If you would like, we can work out a priority schedule so we can blow through a couple of these articles per day, and have most, if not all of them in at least C-Class condition before the first gun fires in London. Let me know if you have the time. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:57, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Archiving USA Swimming profiles

Hey, Philip, do you know how to "archive" the individual swimmer profiles that USA Swimming has created? I don't know how, but I think we should. If consistent with the recent history of the USA Swimming website, the profiles will disappear relatively quickly, and they are the best reliable source for basic biographical information on many of the 2012 Olympians. I think we should do what we can to preserve these profiles. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:44, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

My concern with archiving the USA Swimming profiles of those swimmers who are retiring after the 2012 Olympics. Their profiles will not be updated, and will simply disappear from the USA Swimming website some time after the Olympics. I'm guessing something like a third to half of the current crop of Olympians will never swim for the U.S. National Team again. We can probably identify the most likely retirees and other non-repeaters, starting with Ricky Berens, who has said he is done after London. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:43, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Ryan Lochte Page

Hi Philip, please see my comments on the Talk Page regarding Ryan Lochte's personal section. You undoubtedly have more experience with threshold than me, but I think a pretty convincing case can be made to leave the relevant quotation in. I look forward to your comments.Wikieditor987654321 (talk) 03:19, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Olympic relay swimmers who received medals for swimming in the prelims

Philip, do you know what year the Olympics started officially awarding medals to swimmers who swam in the preliminary heats for the top three teams in the relay events? All I've been able to determine so far is that the practice started some time after the 1968 Games. At the 1968 and prior games, those who only swam in the relay prelims were typically referred to as "alternates" and did not get medals. If you could shed any light on this, I would be grateful. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:14, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure. I've e-mailed a few people that may know the answer. As soon as they respond, I will let you know! Philipmj24 (talk) 17:51, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Philipmj24, and thank you for your contributions!

Some text in an article that you worked on 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) – Men's 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay, appears to be directly copied from another Wikipedia article, 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) – Men's 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay. Please take a minute to double-check that you've properly attributed the source text in your edit summary.

It's entirely possible that this bot made a mistake, so please feel free to remove this notice and the tag it placed on 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) – Men's 4 × 100 metre freestyle relay at any time. MadmanBot (talk) 18:24, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

User rights removal

You were originally entrusted with the Autopatrolled and Reviewer rights. Unfortunately, your recently bulk creation of a number of inappropriate individual articles related to individual events from the 2012 FINA championships have shown that you unfortunately cannot be trusted with those enhanced rights, and I have removed them accordingly. Take a breath

Given the allegations of abuse against a highly respected admin, I think there have been many editors poring over the issues, and offering support for your position. While I appreciate that you feel wronged, and want resolution quickly, pushing will only hurt your case. There are a lot of sympathetic editors, let them help you. This isn't a minor issue that can be resolved by a quick glance at a couple diffs, the issue requires review of dozens of articles, to get a sense of what types of detail are appropriate.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:42, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

BWilkins

Philip, I would suggest that you disengage from the ANI discussion before you say something you may regret later. Right now, you are hitting your head against the wall by demanding that BWilkins' obvious errors be corrected instantly. Please allow me to advocate on your behalf, and also allow time for several of the uninvolved administrators to get up to speed on the structure of the international swimming championship articles. If you back off a bit, I suspect that either BWilkins or another admin will correct these errors in the next 12 to 24 hours. Patience, my friend. Wikipedia policy, precedent, and the facts are all on your side. If the situation does not resolve itself, I am willing to file a DRV and other review requests on your behalf. Regards, Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 17:33, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I am becoming a little too emotional. I will refrain from posting any more. And I thank you for coming to my defense and your kind words. I appreciate it. Philipmj24 (talk) 17:38, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Not a problem, Philip. Glad to help. I'm pretty sure it will sort itself out in the next 24 hours. In the mean time, your registered account isn't blocked, and there are plenty of articles to edit. Cheers! Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:05, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
I am just appalled at the lack of response on part of the blocking administrator. Some sort of action is needed. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 20:47, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
Absolutely ridiculous, but worst of all he deleted most of the pages from the 2012 Short Course Worlds that we have been working on. I hope they are restored quickly so we can get back to work on them. :::That is all I really care about when it comes down to it. Philipmj24 (talk) 20:55, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

@ Intoronto1125I just glanced at the talk page of the blocking admin Alexf, and see no indication xhe has been contacted, so may not even know there is a question, so why on earth would you expect a response? (Unless you meant BWilkins, but he wasn't the blocking admin and he has responded.)--SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:56, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Sorry exam season (means lack of sleep lol) what I meant was the admin. by judging his contributions and experience looks like a great editor and an asset to Wikipedia. However it just seemed abrupt of him to mass delete articles and then strip an editor of privileges. It just seemed out of character. When I wrote the previous comment majority (if not all) of the deleted articles were not restored. I should not have said blocking that was a mistake but you get the picture. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 01:30, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

The article Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Pool schedule has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seen this from the ANI page, serves no purpose, if this really mattered it could be dealt with accordingly, but it does not require its own page.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 19:11, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Probably should be deleted per WP:NOTDIR, Philip. The other sports projects turn a blind eye to these during the event or current season, but it probably should deleted afterwards if it was included originally. Certainly doesn't need to be a stand-alone article. You may want to request an article creator speedy deletion. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 19:16, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Rights restored

I've restored your rights and have suggested an uninvolved admin review any deleted articles with you on your talk page. While there are exceptions, we prefer you try to talk to the admin whose actions you disagree with on their talk page at least once before bringing to ANI, to prevent drama and unnecessarily long process. Admin are expected to listen and either work to correct the problem or provide a rationale why the original actions were correct. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 19:48, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Removal of personal attacks on user page

Hello, while I understand your frustration over the situation you should not have attacks on other editors on your user page per WP:POLEMIC. I have removed the comments about Bwilkins. Please do not restore them.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 22:47, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Recording perceived flaws, such as an administrative action you consider unjust, is an implicit attack and explicitly covered under the policy. Please remove it.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 23:03, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

On another note, you should disclose when you are editing from an IP to make a contentious edit, lest someone misunderstand the situation. If you are concerned about the security of your main account, you could also create an alternate account for any editing you do on public computers.--The Devil's Advocate (talk) 00:20, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Talkback

Message added SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:44, 15 December 2012 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Short summary, I restored all but one article. However, I urge you to read my comments.

A Serious Comment

Philip, I wanted to touch base as I am literally saddened and shocked by the direction that both of our actions took this morning. I am a very firm believer in resolving all issues at the lowest level, and as you now know well, ANI is certainly not that level. As you have already read, I apologized for jumping to both remove rights and delete articles - but in case you missed it, I'm saying it again: sorry. Because of my haste, I also stated that I was personally willing to return said rights - and gave any other admin full permission to do so, which thankfully our colleague Dennis Brown restored the rights, and Sphilbrick did the articles.

I do honestly wish you had approached me first, as is required on this project. I'm sure that if you take the opportunity to look at the situation through my eyes, you will see that I saw concerning behaviour, and my first reaction was to protect the project as a whole. It was not personal, but borne out of concern for the project as a whole. If you had shown me that some of the years that I had NOT checked had the multiple event articles, I certainly would have acted quickly to fix my error. (Heck, if I had actually blocked you, I could easily have been accused of abuse :-) )

Recognize that by going to ANI instead of directly to me, you actually prevented me from returning the rights to you and undeleting the articles - obviously you can see that it would have been the best choice, and I encourage you to attempt to resolve things at the lowest level in the future to avoid what you now see to be ridiculous and energy-draining drama, and I will personally try not to be so hasty. I wish you the best in your work in aquatics. (✉→BWilkins←✎) 01:35, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
