DYK nomination of Lusaka Manifesto

Hello! Your submission of Lusaka Manifesto at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Gaff (talk) 21:11, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Would you have any suggestions?

A few months ago during the eventually unsuccessful Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Piotrus_3 you voted "oppose". I wonder if you'd like to discuss any concerns of yours in detail, or if you would have any suggestions in the event I'd decide to run again (which I am not planning to do anytime soon, but might consider in the future). For a better sense of my work and activities around the project, I invite you to consider reviewing my userpage, my talk page archives (which are not redacted), to watchlist my talk page, or use edit analysis tools like Wikichecker, content.paragr, dewkin, xtools-pages or xtools-ec (which in theory should work as of late 2014...). My FAs/GAs/DYKs are listed on my userpage. Thank you for your time, (PS. If you reply here, I'd appreciate a WP:ECHO or {{talkback}} ping).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:15, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Piotrus, let me start with stating how much I appreciate your research work, your content creation, and your involvement in all sorts of discussions for the good of Wikipedia. Editors usually get the admin 'badge' for a quarter of what you have done.
Still I have the feeling that you're asking for advice on a near-impossible task. Quite a number of editors will have Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Piotrus_4 on their watchlist, the first opposer will bring up the EEML story, and many editors will follow 'per X'. My personal issue with this story is threefold: First, you were a grown-up man when it happened. According to my experience, people our age don't change so rapidly anymore, so that 5 or 6 years are not really that much of a distance to a past event. Admins need to be trusted, and that trust you gambled away big time. Second, and for me personally more important, I cannot see where you fully admitted what you did. It might be an issue of language or culture. I'd like to see some subpage of yours, prominently linked from your user page, where you take ownership of the debacle, 100% ownership, and where you apologise to the Wikipedia community. Yes, it would be a Walk to Canossa to a certain degree, but if you want to be admin again I feel this is necessary. And there is a third point. I admire patriots but I think nationalists have no place here and should ideally be banned. I have no idea what prompted EEML---a scientific experiment, genuine love for your country? However, one could interpret it as motivated by nationalism, and that's something on which I would oppose any admin request from anybody.
I might have interpreted too much into the EEML issue; maybe it was benign. Sorry if I project anything onto you that is not actually true. I'm happy to discuss further; these are my general thoughts. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 18:34, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for a very constructive commentary. You are right that I should create a subpage in which I explain EEML in more detail, and issue a clear apology (I've apologized a number of times in the past, but I don't have the diffs handy, I am afraid). Regarding the nationalism issue, you may want to check our my essay(s) here, which I have always linked from my RfA, through I don't believe anybody who commented has ever done so in relation to those. In relation to admin behavior, I think it really boils down to respecting WP:UNINVOLVED, which was never a serious issue. I recently explained this here, and I'd appreciate your thoughts on that. I will try to draft a statement about EEML, through not sure when (but certainly before I stand for any new RfA), and I'll ping you when it is done. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:30, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi again, Piotrus! I've read your response to Drmies. Referring to your claim that Arbcom's ruling was thin on your admin actions: For me that's not the major point. I remember coming to your third RfA with an obvious support in mind, clicked through some of the EEML links, found the email thread and thought 'Oh shit'. I can't find the emails anymore but it must have been something more than the two emails you mention. Maybe some announcement that you offer your admin services to have articles in the preferred version? But in any case, it is trust for me, not involvement. I have also noticed, forgive me for being blunt, that you still downplay what actually happened. Long ago, only once, short duration, single action,... all this hurts your aim to be admin again. If you don't think it was so bad you'll maybe do it again.
I think what you need to do is convince the Piotrus_4 !voters that you won't do it again. The mailing list participation, not the semi-protection. For that to believe I would need to know why you did it in the first place, and what has changed since then. Hope that helps, Pgallert (talk) 10:49, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Did you know nominations/Al-Sahifat al-Ridha

Hello. It is my honor that you like this article! I've rewritten the first paragraph of lead. Is it possible that i know your opinion about this changes? I removed the sentences that make misunderstandings. Can i ask you that give me more time to find a person who help me at doing copyedit? Thanks!Samaneh-davoudi (talk) 09:56, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Greetings, Samaneh-davoudi! I think it is already much better now. I tweaked again the lead and the first section. I stopped at When Haroon died, the strife was appear because I am not quite sure what that means - did they quarrel, have an argument? Would be great if you could clarify this.
Sorry for the late response, I am very busy at the moment. I'll soon make a turn at the article again to copyedit the other sessions as well. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 11:01, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Hello. There is no problem. Thank you for your help. I removed the ambiguity at the When Haroon died, the strife was appear sentence. I hope to change better. Samaneh-davoudi (talk) 17:43, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi again, Samaneh-davoudi! When looking at the "Collectors" section today I had trouble understanding the two phrases by chain of narrators and by chain of historian. They are grammatically odd, but without the meaning I cannot correct this. It would be great if you could help out again. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 18:59, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Hello! As you know, this Scripture was not conveyed from Al-Ridha to Shaykh Saduq or Yahya ibn Isma'il directly (and without intermediaries). So there was people that conveyed Scripture from Al-Ridha to Shaykh Saduq or Yahya ibn Isma'il. I thought that it is appropriate to describe these people by chain of narrators or chain of historian. I try to make clear my mean, but if you need more explanationو Please Notify me! Can i ask you removed this tag disambiguation needed from Narrator's section? Thanks! Samaneh-davoudi (talk) 06:15, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi Samaneh-davoudi, sorry for the long wait, I have been a bit busy in real life. Unfortunately I haven't got much knowledge about this topic, that's why I ask such simple questions - If I get you right, the Scripture was orally transmitted via the chain of narrators? Or was the book copied in writing? Or was it completed over time, with more narrators adding verses? The [disambiguation needed] tag is there because you link to Amin but there are many such people. I had a look at the page Amin and at the page Amin (name) but I do not see a good candidate. Is a surname known? Thanks for your patience, all the best, Pgallert (talk) 15:52, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
Just a small add-on: I think the timing (AH / CE) should be consistent throughout the article. I have added both calendars with links in the first sentence. Would it be appropriate to use AH dates in the rest of the article, as it is an article on a religious topic? --Pgallert (talk) 17:19, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi Pgallert! Thanks for your help. the topic isn't complex. The scripture was orally transmitted via chain of narrators Or was the book copied in writing. Both of them is possible. In Hadith studies, one of the factors that indicates the reliability of the hadith. In another word chain of narrator are set of people. I would just like to confirm the main point we discussed. For muslims, chain of narrator is a specific word. I think that it's better to describe the chain of narrator in the Parenthesis, like this: chain of narrator (set of people that conveyed hadith from Al-Ridha to another people) or refer it to Hadith studies page! Is it good? I am to be eager that know your opinion!
Unfortunately i forgot checking the time. thanks for reminding me. Best Regards!Samaneh-davoudi (talk) 08:13, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
@Samaneh-davoudi: The description in parentheses looks good to me. If chain of narrators has a specific meaning, would it make sense to create a redirect? Possibly to Hadith studies? In this case, the phrase could be linked, so that non-Muslim readers also would have a chance to see that it has a special meaning. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 18:21, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
@Pgallert::By mistake i wrote to you one unfinished sentence: In Hadith studies, one of the factors that indicates the reliability of the hadith is The chain of narrators. I create a redirect for chain of narrators. Do you want to use the description in parentheses too? I think it should be, but the final decision is yours!
About chain of historian, that is Similar to chain of narration but that isn't specific term for shia. My mean of "chain of historian" is a set of people that confirm Yahya ibn Isma'il or Hussein ibn Ali Juvayni narrated Al-Sahifat al-Ridha. we couldn't use redirect for this case, but according to your opinion we can use the description in parentheses.
Excuse me, i forgot to tell you. I demystified Amin and refer this word to Al- amin page. Is it time to remove the tag? Best RegardsSamaneh-davoudi (talk) 06:47, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
@Samaneh-davoudi: I think we are now getting there :-) Please check that my explanations of the chains of narrator / historian are correct, and correct the wording if necessary. There is still one sentence that I don't understand: In part that is related to Ahl al-bayt, is discussed separately on each of them in the second lead paragraph. What would also be great is if the references could all be brought into the form of the current reference 7... this is not a Did-you-know requirement, but for good article status it will have to happen, anyway.
There is also still the issue with the hook phrase. I can attempt a re-phrasing, or I can suggest a new hook. Does the reference in the 'Manuscript' section confirm all five versions, or just the last one? If it mentions all five, a hook could be written mentioning that there are 5 surviving copies - that would be quite remarkable for a book more than a thousand years old.
Oh, and one last question: How can the first manuscript have been written before al Ridha was born? Thanks a lot for your effort, cheers, Pgallert (talk) 08:16, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi again Pgallert. I checked it and they were true. About that sentence: Ahl al-bayt is called to 14 persons and my mean of this sentences is that at this book is discussed about all of them. Is it clear? I should point out that Ahl al-bayt is specific term for shia. So thanks for reference, but i can't got your mean actually. do i add more information of reference?
Yes. The reference in the 'Manuscript' section confirm all five versions. I'm sorry, this isn't clear for me the issue with the hook phrase? A bout your last question, why do you think that? I checked all of time in article. Al-ridha born in 148 AH and narrated Ahadith for Ahmad in 194 AH. First manuscripts of the book have been written in 761 AH. I hope to make clear it for you! Best RegardsSamaneh-davoudi (talk) 10:35, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
@Samaneh-davoudi: Thanks again for your explanations. I tried to clarify the text of the article, considering your insights as shared here on my talk page. If you allow I would like to copy our conversation here to the talk page of Al-Sahifat al-Ridha so that editors that may join us in the future have a chance to see why the article developed in that way. The date question was a misunderstanding on my side, I was confusing AH and CE dates. I will now ask for another reviewer of the DYK because the things that I originally complained about are no longer there, but as I have made many edits to this article I am no longer sufficiently uninvolved to give the check mark myself. I'll be watching the article and the DYK page in order to help out again, should that be necessary. Thanks for your patience in this matter, and I hope to read many more of your articles. All the best, Pgallert (talk) 20:26, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Pgallert. Thank you so much for your help. No problem. This is great and useful for others. please copy our conversation here to the talk page of Al-Sahifat al-Ridha. So do i wait that you introduce another reviewer? does it take more time? any way no problem. the important matter for me is improving of the article and you helped me at the best. In shia, when some body help us, We ask God to make him successful (doa). So i ask Allahe to make you successful in your real life. Is there any thing that i do for article? Thanks for your wish.
Another thing, i see that you suggested another hook, but i the source of the hook is in persian. I think it made a problem. best regards Samaneh-davoudi (talk) 10:43, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your blessing. A source in Persian is no problem for DYK: Either a reviewer comes along who is literate in that language, or the reviewer will simply assume good faith that the source really verifies the statement. The new review is going to take some time again, but hopefully not weeks but days. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 14:41, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Namibische Einzelmeisterschaft

Hi Peter, uns fehlen ja nur noch bei den Männern die Jahre 2002 bis 2004 und die Frage, ob es vor 2010 bei den Frauen schon Einzelmeisterschaften gab. Gibt es da etwas neues? Hasan ibn Ali

Hello Pgallert! Thanks for your attempts to do copy edit of Sahifah of al-Ridha. Would i ask you help me again and do copy edit of Hasan ibn Ali. I want to make ready it for GA. Best regards!Samaneh-davoudi (talk) 11:38, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Samaneh-davoudi (talk · contribs)! I'll of course help you again, but I am a bit busy at the moment. --Pgallert (talk) 10:51, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi again. Thanks so much for doing this job, but Approximately how long can you check the article? Best regards!Viator313 (talk) 05:43, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi Samaneh-davoudi (talk · contribs)! It looks like you haven't started yet to make edits there. Hasan ibn Ali is in quite a good shape already, although nowhere near GA yet. I think a major issue is the over-reliance on one single source (Madelung 1997). That's going to raise eyebrows. Another thing I spotted are the unusual headlines (for instance "With Muawiya" as major section makes no sense at all). I'll make an attempt at copyediting, but I'm currently also busy at David Hume. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 06:16, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm interest in this article and recently i saw that it needs to copy edit, because of that i thought you can do this job. We had good experience at Sahifah of al-Ridha. I would be glad that this job is done. I checked that User:Hadi.anani created this article and had many edits. @Hadi.anani: please answer the question of Pgallert!
Thanks Pgallert. Good luck to you at David Hume!Viator313 (talk) 07:33, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Help request: Arabic text

I try to edit the lead phrase of Hasan ibn Ali but text and numbers jump around, and I cannot exactly place what I want to write (first the Arabic spelling, then the years of birth and death, then the CE linked to Common Era). Maybe because some of the text is written right-to-left? Any idea what to do? Thanks, --Pgallert (talk) 20:11, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

While this edit looks absolutely nonsensical, it seems to have fixed the issue. Arabic script sets the default writing order to right-to-left, and brackets or numbers don't change that; only Roman letters will (unless there's some nifty workaround I'm not aware of). I was tempted to add a HTML comment merely to end the right-to-left, but ultimately I saw no need. Huon (talk) 21:32, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, Huon. Funny how I, after 7 years on Wikipedia, still have to place the odd {{helpme}} template... --Pgallert (talk) 08:10, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

eLearning Africa Conference, May 2015 in Addis Ababa

Hi Peter. I wanted to flag a conference that you may be interested in, eLearning Africa. I think one of the organizers was at Wikimania, so you may already be aware of it. I think it might be a possible venue to showcase your work with students at Polytechnic of Namibia and perhaps even your indigenous knowledge PEG, and it would be great to have active members from the Wikimedia Community involved in general. I've put in a submission to present the education program and/or facilitate a pre-conference workshop. TFlanagan-WMF (talk) 21:27, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

@TFlanagan-WMF: Thanks Tighe, that looks interesting. I must admit that I didn't even find a link there to submit anything. Is it already closed, or am I just too stupid to find it? Also, the e--learning aspect is not really related to my research cluster's theme. I'm not sure if funds for attending can come from my employer. Would WMF be in a position to sponsor attendance if I manage to accommodate a proposal? Thanks and best regards, --Pgallert (talk) 14:10, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
@Pgallert: Peter, I can put you in touch with the organizers over email to see if you can still submit a session (the deadline has passed, but there may be some flexibility). In regards to sponsoring attendance, it seems to me that this falls under the Travel and Participation Support that my grantmaking colleagues offer to Wikimedians to actively represent Wikimedia at events around the world. Will send an email shortly. TFlanagan-WMF (talk) 14:20, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
@TFlanagan-WMF: Thanks again, Tighe. I put a proposal together and submitted, but as I didn't know what the 'real' deadline was, the proposal is probably a bit under-cooked. Will let you know about the outcome. --Pgallert (talk) 12:24, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
@TFlanagan-WMF: Update: My talk has been accepted by the conference organisers. However, I have only until 20 April to register and pay. Not sure if I will get a positive response so quickly, particularly as I was very slow to submit the report for my previous grant. Again, thanks for the heads-up, Pgallert (talk) 09:15, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
@Pgallert: Peter, great news! If you get your TPS application in soon, I would think you would have a response before the deadline so you could plan accordingly. Happy to help if I can. TFlanagan-WMF (talk) 12:56, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
