July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 03:52, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, I was looking for a prettier way to do this, but I'm not very artistic, so I'll just say thank you for your support in my RfA, which was closed as successful. I look forward to serving the community in a new way. Take care! -- But|seriously|folks  08:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Welcome back!

Hey there Peacent, haven't seen you around for a while and saw you went on Wikibreak, so just wanted to come here and say welcome back and I hope everything's okay! Best regards, - Zeibura (Talk) 04:01, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Abt the Prashant Tamang article

Could you please look over the article? The new user is giving reasons like too many references and putting deletion tag. Also I have never seen a new user who uses such templates so nicely. I think you can either explain the reason for keeping or deleting the article to him/her or me. Sorry for bothering you. Thank you--Eukesh 14:27, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I think the new user got confused about the "finalist" part which can be seen in his/her comments in history of the discussion. I am primarily active in South Asian wikipedias, so can contribute only part time over here. Its good to have someone like you watching over these articles here. Thanks a lot :) --Eukesh 15:24, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

WP:AIV Thanks!

Hi PeaceNT, thank you for your assistance in the vandalism case. I appreciate the page-protect! Have a nice day! Nimur 16:27, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Cheers for the Barnstar, it makes it all worthwhile. Or something like that :)

I just hope that we can all keep this level of anti-vandalism coverage up until release, given that as T-dot said, it's the first hit in google. Daggoth | Talk 06:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Unblock request

User talk:Genobawt seems to have a reasonable newbie explanation? --Steve (Stephen) talk 09:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Support a block. It is clear to me this was not a newbie "mistake" - Genobawt's explanation that he was "trying to add another section" is not at all consistent with what he actually did: blanking primary and crucial article text, and apparently replacing it with a crucial plot spoiler from Book 7. A week may be a bit long though...? --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 09:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
My apologies, looking at this again shows you were correct. --Steve (Stephen) talk 23:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Your RFPP action on Big Mountain Ski Resort

Thanks PeaceNT. Quick question. In a case like this, is the POV material blatant enough that I can remove it now without running into 3RR issues? --barneca (talk) 15:54, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for participating in My RfA which closed successfully. I am honored and truly more than a little humbled by the support of so many members of the community. It's more than a bit of a lift to see comments on my behalf by so many people that I respect. I'll do my best to not disappoint you or the community. - Philippe | Talk 06:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Lord Edtel, is me, but not me.

I know writing an article about myself is against the rules, but Im writing about myself as Lord Edtel, the phreaker, much like a radio personality or batman, I don't always phreak and I'm not always Lord Edtel, Just like batman is Bruce Wayne in his fictional regular life.

Putting it bluntly, Lord Edtel is my batman costume.

Would this be acceptable or is the article no longer valid?

Your revert of my edit to Minor Hufflepuffs

The talk page doesn't control the article. Removing a small section isn't a big deal. I would like to point out: Wikipedia isn't a guide to every minor character. I'm not sure why you think otherwise. Also there is a Harry Potter wiki if you want complete character lists. This encyclopedia isn't the place for them. RobJ1981 19:56, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! :)

Thank you for your beautiful words and warm wishes on my birthday, dear friend! I took a well-deserved one-day wikibreak and spent it with my family and my friends... and actually had a beer after months of forced abstinence! :) Of course, there's no way I'd forget about you, so I saved a great, tasty piece of chocolate cake just for you - but sorry, no beer left! Again, thank you so much for taking the time to wish me well, and have a wonderful day, dear Peacent! Love, Phaedriel - 06:25, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I've missed you so much these last weeks, dear Peacent! It's great to see you around again, even tho you're userpage-less now... having your page in my watchlist serves its purpose! ;) Do you need a wikifairy to help you to try and make a userpage that reflects at least a tiny fraction of your beauty? ;) xxx, Sharon

Thank you...

To-do list

I am curious as to why you deleted Talk:Helbreath/to do, which was created accordingly to the standards of the to-do list template. The template displaying on Talk:Helbreath is now broken in the absence of this page.

10:36, 29 June 2007 PeaceNT (Talk | contribs) deleted "Talk:Helbreath/to do" (CSD G8: Talkpage of non-Existent Article content was: '{{tasks}}*Find reliable sources*Reference each paragraph!. Especially Gameplay*Create a history section*Convert all referen...' (and the only contributor was '[[Sp)

According to CSD G8 "It is a Talk subpage (such as archived Talk pages) whose corresponding top-level article does exist.", and as you will see Talk:Helbreath indeed does exist (the top level of this article).

I am going to go ahead and restart the article as I feel this was likely a misunderstanding, but I figured it would be appropriate to bring this to your attention. --MaTrIx 02:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey PeaceNT, I'm giving you this for all the effort you put into making the page a featured list. I remember when I first came to Wikipedia, and the page was of low standard and missing half the summarys. You truly went above and beyond with his page. Trainra 08:05, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Tom Felton, GAC (?)

Hi there, I just saw you added Tom Felton to the WP:GAC list, but apparently without adding the mandatory "good article candidate" flag to the corresponding talk page Talk:Tom Felton. I was bold and added it anyway, and added it to the WP:Potter project page as a GAC. If this is not wanted, just retract everything. —Onomatopoeia 15:35, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

COncern over my username

Well, my old username was cfive, but when I tried to log in one day, it wouldn't go. After an hour I gave up and got a new account and zero wing was the first thing on my mind. I tried for the username allyourbasearebelongtous but that was already taken, so I added on something at the end I could remember as OMG, would be a possible exclamation said in that situation. Hope that helps. Why were you worried? Allyourbasearebelongtousomg 14:43, 9 August 2007 (UTC) By the way, when I said OMG, I meant "oh my goodness" not anything else =) Allyourbasearebelongtousomg 14:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC) Thanks for clearing up my username! =)Allyourbasearebelongtousomg 22:54, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Jumpswing

Following the instruction on WP:DP, I'm contacting you since you closed the deletion review for jumpswing. I've outlined a large list of points why I believe the article is not noteworthy on Talk:Jumpswing. They should address all of the points that were given during the AfD. If the article is not deleted, then it would be more correct to redirect the article to Swing revival. (I don't want to make this change since I don't want to be accused of vandalism.) panda 16:21, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

How do you start a second AfD? WP:AFD only shows how to list a page for the first time. Do I just follow the same 3-step process? panda 03:56, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Tom Felton

The article Tom Felton you nominated as a good article has passed , see Talk:Tom Felton for eventual comments about the article. Well done! T Rex | talk 16:48, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Timezones

Hello, just to remind you that you actually deleted this almost a whole day early: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/TierraWiki. 5 days from nomination, not five days from closure of AfD day. Regards, Splash - tk 18:26, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

I have to disagree that it was wrong to close at that time. A few hours... really it's not a big deal, especially as the result was pretty clear. There's no rule or policy insisting the full 120 hours are up when it is closed. Majorly (talk) 18:48, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
None of which alters the fact that AfDs last five days, and not four. To make a habit of deleting on one's fancy is to eventually cause an unnecessary friction when someone gets upset that they didn't get a so-called 'fair hearing'. There is really no hurry. Given that such a situation can be easily avoided by closing after five days have elapsed, then they should be allowed to do so. Splash - tk 19:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Let's face it: The result was unambiguously clear and it wasn't closed but ~3 hours early? –Animum 19:57, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Check the section heading ... Splash - tk 20:23, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
No, about 18. But still, the point is PeaceNT did the correct thing, and there's no need to hassle over the few missed hours. You're also exaggerating things here "deleting on one's fancy". She closed an AfD on its fifth day. She did fine. Majorly (talk) 20:05, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
It's evidently not clear: I'm happy the article is deleted. I gave PeaceNT (and neither of the rest of you) a friendly reminder about the correct timescales involved in order to avoid possible future problems on less clear-cut debates. It is better to be proactive than reactive. AfDs take 5 days, and there is no gain in accelerating them. Splash - tk 20:23, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
