Wesley brown Page
Hello,
I am Suchitra who created the Wesley Brown page. I am new to the Wiki please do not delete the link. Or can you guide me to how to create a professional page using Sandbox
Thanks ~Suchitra — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wesley Brown Director (talk • contribs) 10:34, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Wesley Brown Director:Welcome to Wikipedia. I reverted your edit because it seemed unconstrutive. We have some policies and guidelines in Wikipedia. We can't link a userpage in such a disambiguation page. Don't worry about that. Be bold in editing, but always edit in good faith. If you have doubts on editing, you can approach any users including me. Also there is a page for this named Teahouse. I strongly recommend you to participate in The Wikipedia Adventure. Through this you can learn the basics of Wikipedia in an easiest way. Also remember to sign your posts in talk pages using ~~~~. Best of luck! Regards.--PATH SLOPU 10:45, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can now write all special letters in all African Wikipedia languages. This works in the desktop version. [1]
- There is now a field called
depicts
on Commons. This is a way to show what is in a picture with the help of Wikidata. It is still in development. [2] - Some tools on Toolforge may break on or after 3 June because of database changes. Maintainers should update their tools to use the new schema. [3][4]
Problems
- You will be able to read but not to edit Wikimedia Commons for 30 minutes on 19 June at 05:00 (UTC). This is to fix a hardware problem. [5]
Changes later this week
- Some wikis have one tab for the visual editor and one tab for a wikitext editor. Others wikis just have one tab. If your wiki has two tabs, clicking a link to create a new page has always opened a wikitext editor. It will now open the editor you used the last time you edited. [6]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 4 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 5 May. It will be on all wikis from 6 May (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 5 May at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Thank you, Path slopu. That's very kind of you. While we all enjoy writing articles, I think it is important to remember that we are a community and do what we can to help everyone else. why did you revert my edit?
if you can find a single source that explains how he died, from what causes etc. then my point would be invalid.

My Fear the Walking Dead edit
How was that vandalism??? I don't get it!!! The character is referred to as both Clayton and Polar Bear on the series. Polar Bear's his alias or trucker radio call or something and its what he's generally known by. I changed it (what I had written in the first place no less) in case people didn't realize who I meant when I called him Clayton.--32.214.195.155 (talk) 16:08, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Why haven't you responded to explain your claims of vandalism??? Because I don't appreciate being called a vandal and then not getting an explanation for why that was done when I'm clearly not.--32.214.195.155 (talk) 19:15, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

- An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
- An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
- An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.
- The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
- Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.
- The previously discussed unblocking of IP addresses indefinitely-blocked before 2009 was approved and has taken place.
- The 2019 talk pages consultation produced a report for Phase 1 and has entered Phase 2.
Hello, and thank you for your recent contribution. I appreciate the effort you made for our project, but unfortunately I had to undo your edit because I believe the article was better before you made that change. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you! PATH SLOPU 09:44, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
On what basis did you delete my addition? My reference to Alex Hepburn's rape conviction was properly referenced and valid. The section relates to notable Old Aquinians, and his cricket career is not particularly noteworthy, particularly given his contract with Worcestershire has now been terminated. Indeed, it is only his rape conviction that makes him noteworthy. I have restored my edit and would appreciate a more substantive justification than that you believe the article was better before you make any further change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Q-metal (talk • contribs) 10:08, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

- When you create a PDF from a page on the wiki this is now done by Proton. Before this we used Electron. It should look the same but work better. Both use Chromium. This is a different system from when you collect several articles into a book and make a PDF from them. [7][8]
- The Flagged Revisions extension now uses the standard OOUI icons. There will be additional minor fixes for positioning in the next deployment. [9]
- Bots and other scripts that do not set an identifiable User-Agent may find their requests strictly rate-limited until they identify themselves properly. [10]

The sad news was the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings. The Top 6 most popular articles about People in WikiProject Christianity were:
- Louis XIV of France – a monarch of the House of Bourbon who reigned as King of France. He did say, "Every time I appoint someone to a vacant position, I make a hundred unhappy and one ungrateful."
- Mary, Queen of Scots – arrested for Reigning While Catholic (RWC), Mary was found guilty of plotting to assassinate Elizabeth I of England in 1586, and was beheaded the following year.
- Elizabeth I of England – The Virgin Queen, Elizabeth was the last of the five monarchs of the House of Tudor who ushered in the Elizabethan Era, reversed re-establishment of Roman Catholicism by her half-sister.
- Henry VIII of England – King of England, He was an accomplished musician, author, and poet; his known piece of music is "Pastime with Good Company". He is often reputed to have written "Greensleeves" but probably did not. He had six marriages.
- Martin Luther King Jr. –" There are three urgent and indeed great problems that we face not only in the United States of America but all over the world today. That is the problem of racism, the problem of poverty and the problem of war."
- Billy Ray Cyrus – Having released 12 studio albums and 44 singles since 1992, he is best known for his number one single "Achy Breaky Heart", which became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia.
... that the first attempt to build the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra resulted in the demolition of the nearly completed structure?
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral is a Gothic Revival three-spire cathedral in the city of Cork, Ireland. It belongs to the Church of Ireland and was completed in 1879. The cathedral is located on the south side of the River Lee, on ground that has been a place of worship since the 7th century, and is dedicated to Finbarr of Cork, patron saint of the city. It was once in the Diocese of Cork; it is now one of the three cathedrals in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. Christian use of the site dates back to a 7th-century AD monastery, which according to legend was founded by Finbarr of Cork. The entrances contain the figures of over a dozen biblical figures, capped by a tympanum showing a Resurrection scene.

Updates: I've been focusing largely on the development side of things, so we are a lot closer now to being ready to actually start discussing deploying it and testing it out here.
There's just a few things left that need to be resolved:
- A bunch of language support issues in particular, plus some other release blockers, such as the fact that currently there's no good way to find any hubs people do create.
- We also probably need some proper documentation and examples up to even reference if we want a meaningful discussion. We have the extension documentation and some test projects, but we probably need a bit more. Also I need to be able to even find the test projects! How can I possibly write reports about this stuff if I can't find any of it?!
Some other stuff that's happened in the meantime:
- Midpoint report is out for this round of the project, if you want to read in too much detail about all the problems I've been running into.
- WikiProject Molecular Biology have successfully set up using the old module system that CollaborationKit is intended to replace (eventually), and it even seems to work, so go them. Based on the issues they ran into, it looks like the members signup thing on that system has some of the same problems as we've been unable to resolve in CK, though, which is... interesting. (Need to change the content model to the right thing for the formwizard config to take. Ugh, content models.)
Until next time,

Thank you for reviewing this article.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand this comment: "Please split it into sections. Regards." What does "sections" mean here? I'd like to create more Wikipedia entries, but obviously still learning. Thank you.
107.133.4.115 (talk) 21:35, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hi greetings, I mean that split the article in to different sections like References (it's a section). You can use this markup
==
in either side of the section heading. (please read this). Regards.--PATH SLOPU 12:44, 26 June 2019 (UTC)- In your decline of Draft:Eric J. Guignard and Draft:Ensemble Chaconne you've given the reason that these drafts are essay-like. I don't think that's the case. Your comment to the editors that they should split the article into sections may be good advice but that's not a valid decline reason. Please take another look at WP:AFCR for the valid decline criteria. If a subject is notable and the other valid criteria are met then it should be accepted. You can tag it for formatting issues which can be fixed in mainspace. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 12:23, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Curb Safe Charmer:Thank you very much for the advice. I agree with you. I'll try to do it so. If I come across with such situations in future, I'll focus on the notability and reliability of sources, etc (according to AFCR) than the style of citing, sections (if they are compatible with MOS). Hope you will give this kind of advice in the future. I'll remember your words in my future reviews. Regards.--PATH SLOPU 14:15, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

Bare URLs
Hi. Bare URLs aren't a valid reason to decline a draft. They can be easily fixed when the article has been accepted and moved to mainspace. Looking at your review of Draft:IBUILD Global Inc I think the real issue, and the decline reason you should have used, is notability. Referencing can aways be improved, but if the subject isn't notable, it shouldn't be here at all. If you select that reason, the author will automatically receive advice about both notability and referencing. And looking at your reviews of Draft:Richard J. Stern and Draft:Jovan Isailović, Jr., you used the 'improperly referenced' reason, but the references that were already there look reliable to me. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 10:23, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Path Slopu, Thanks for your initial review. You commented that I should add sections, which I've done. You can resubmit the draft at any time when you pass the requirements such as notability, reliability of sources, verifiablity of content, etc. (otherwise it may be declined). Regarding Draft: Shripad Vaidya
Respected Sir, I am a new editor on english wikipedia. I am trying to write this page by taking guidance of the reviewers. I am getting new suggestions every time from different reviewer, so I am making changes accordingly. Now, from your side I got the comment that article subject is not notable. But believe me that the subject is notable. I can write and explain the notability, if I got a chance to write more lines. But when I WRITE THE FACTS IN DETAIL some reviewer made a comment that I am writing a blog. So, can you please inform me that how many lines I can write to submit the page for review? Please note that there are pages whose subject has only 1 Guinness record and here the subject of my page is having 100 record entries all over the world including 10 entries in Guinness. The subject of my page is having many world's first's. The subject also deals with the topic of Environmental Human Development which is sensitive for the interest of the mankind present all over the world. Also, an Indian is selflessly doing this is surely notable. I have given primary as well as secondary references independent of the subject. I can give many more references. But previously one reviewer had commented on my page by giving advice to give only one reference. If every time every reviewer will give contradictory suggestions, how I can follow them? So, please guide me what exactly I should do. I will resubmit by following your suggestions. Thanks. With regards. MA$HRVA (Talk) Write Right!! 17:30, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- @MA$HRVA:Hi greetings, welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Please try to cite from reliable sources. Many of your citations seems reliable. I have some recommendations (my own). Please try to avoid massive citations in a single sentence (for a better reading experience). Please also try to add other details in addition to records achieved by the person (personal life, achievement, etc) with reliable sources. Please follow the guidelines followed when writing an article. Mentioning other awards other than Guinness World records may increase the notability of article. If you have any doubts you can approach any user including me. You can also approach teahouse. Also, no need of addressing any Wikipedian with Sir or Madam. We all are equals here. Then you can resubmit the draft (your decision). Best of luck! Thank you.-PATH SLOPU 14:04, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

WikiCup 2019 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.
Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
- L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
- Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
- MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
- Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
- Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
- Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Erasure revert
I'm not going to change it back, but the SONG was released in the US, on the Wild! album. But it was not released as a single in the US. Which is why I made the change. If you can comprehend that logic, you can change it back yourself. Or you can leave it incorrectly worded as it is now.

Your recent revertion.
Hello Path slopu
My Name is Shawn Archuleta aka Gernikako Arbola. I believe that you are incorrect to assume that the image I changed was not constructive. I belive that the side glancing picture that was the main picture in the monarch template did not do the deceased justice to his appearance. I do find it inappropriate to have images of people regarded on this multi-million viewer encyclopedia site not be consistant with the view of "respecting the deceased." Disrespecting the deceased can be done in many forms, i.e. rumors, lies, biased opinions, and in this case a picture that does not find a murdered former king of Iraq looking his best. It was a side glancing horribly taken picture of a venerated king. If there be any other dispute of this I will contact the administrators and fight this HARD! I do intend in the future to do the same of other regarded people who are found in this encyclopedia to maintain respect for their image. Thank you for your concern.
Sincerely Shawn Archuleta aka GernikaoArbola

Community feedback is invited.
- In February 2019, the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) changed its office actions policy to include temporary and project-specific bans. The WMF exercised this new ability for the first time on the English Wikipedia on 10 June 2019 to temporarily ban and desysop Fram. This action has resulted in significant community discussion, a request for arbitration (permalink), and, either directly or indirectly, the resignations of numerous administrators and functionaries. The WMF Board of Trustees is aware of the situation, and discussions continue on a statement and a way forward. The Arbitration Committee has sent an open letter to the WMF Board.

WikiCup 2019 July newsletter
The third round of the 2019 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round needed to score at least 68 points, which is substantially lower than last year's 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with 500 points derived mainly from a featured article and two GAs on natural history topics
- Adam Cuerden, with 480 points, a tally built on 16 featured pictures, the result of meticulous restoration work
- SounderBruce, a finalist in the last two years, with 306 points from a variety of submissions, mostly related to sport or the State of Washington
- Usernameunique, with 305 points derived from a featured article and two GAs on archaeology and related topics
Contestants managed 4 (5) featured articles, 4 featured lists, 18 featured pictures, 29 good articles, 50 DYK entries, 9 ITN entries, and 39 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and it is imperative to claim them in the correct round; one FA claim had to be rejected because it was incorrectly submitted (claimed in Round 3 when it qualified for Round 2), so be warned! When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Re: Recent edit to Teknonymy
Hello:
I'm just seeing your response to my edit on Teknonymy. It was not a joke edit in the slightest. I'm a linguistics student and I have been taking Swahili classes for over a year. The example I added was a genuine example of teknonymic reference in Swahili. 'Musa' is the Swahili version of 'Moses', which is a very common name in Swahili-speaking countries because Islam and Christianity are the predominant religions. 'Baba' means father, and 'Mama' means mother. Therefore, the parents of a child named Musa are often referred to as "Baba Musa" and "Mama Musa."
I did not think a citation was necessary for this edit, but I may be wrong there. However, I assure you that I was not making a joke edit.
I see that you speak Malayalam! Small world if you are Malayali. I'm an American-born Malayali myself :)

A suicide attack on July 11th claimed by Islamic State (IS) near a church in the Syrian city of Qamishli shows that Christians remain a major target of the terror group. The Top 6 most popular articles about People in WikiProject Christianity were:
- Henry VIII of England – King of England, He was an accomplished musician, author, and poet; his known piece of music is "Pastime with Good Company". He is often reputed to have written "Greensleeves" but probably did not. He had six marriages.
- Elena Cornaro Piscopia – was a Venetian philosopher of noble descent who in 1678 became one of the first women to receive an academic degree from a university, and the first to receive a Doctor of Philosophy degree. In 1669, she translated the Colloquy of Christ by Carthusian monk Lanspergius from Spanish into Italian.
- Mary, Queen of Scots – arrested for Reigning While Catholic (RWC), Mary was found guilty of plotting to assassinate Elizabeth I of England in 1586, and was beheaded the following year.
- Bob Dylan – American singer-songwriter, author, and visual artist. " Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them."
- Elizabeth I of England – The Virgin Queen, Elizabeth was the last of the five monarchs of the House of Tudor who ushered in the Elizabethan Era, reversed re-establishment of Roman Catholicism by her half-sister.
- Billy Ray Cyrus – Having released 12 studio albums and 44 singles since 1992, he is best known for his number one single "Achy Breaky Heart", which became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia.
... that The Vision of Dorotheus is one of the earliest examples of Christian hexametric poetry?
When God Writes Your Love Story: The Ultimate Approach to Guy/Girl Relationships is a 1999 book by Eric and Leslie Ludy, an American married couple. After becoming a bestseller on the Christian book market, the book was republished in 2004 and then revised and expanded in 2009. It tells the story of the authors' first meeting, courtship, and marriage. The authors advise single people not to be physically or emotionally intimate with others, but to wait for the spouse that God has planned for them.
The book is divided into five sections and sixteen chapters. Each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the two authors; nine are by Eric, while Leslie wrote seven, as well as the introduction. The Ludys argue that one's love life should be both guided by and subordinate to one's relationship with God. Leslie writes that God offers new beginnings to formerly unchaste or sexually abused individuals.

Greetings,
Many thanks for participating in the SVG Translation Campaign 2019 in India. It had been quite a successful campaign—194 users from 19 Indic languages took part in the campaign for 38 days, and have created more than 2,500 SVG files, all of them having labels in native Indian languages. You may read the complete report of the campaign at https://w.wiki/3yn.
We would like to thank you again for translating SVG files as a part of this campaign, your contributions have given thousands of people the knowledge that they need the most. Now we would like to have your feedback about the overall campaign, how effective were the training sessions, the resources provided, the support etc.
Please fill the feedback survey at https://forms.gle/4TCicfYzjAGVvKTy6
Your responses are extremely valuable to us, and will be of immense help to understand further training needs or plan future activities in this area. Let us know if you have any questions.
Please note that 4 August 2019 is the last date to complete the survey. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:08, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Edith Covensky Article
Hello, Thank you for moving my article Edith Covensky to draftspace so that it won't get deleted. I am new to Wikipedia so I really appreciate that, I thought i started it there and left it for a while and didn't get any response but people must not have been able to see it, or maybe I didn't wait long enough. I am going to look into these issues and work on fixing it. Manser.ryan (talk) 21:15, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – August 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2019).
Interface administrator changes
|
|
- Following a request for comment, the page Wikipedia:Office actions has been changed from a policy page to an information page.
- A request for comment (permalink) is in progress regarding the administrator inactivity policy.
- Editors may now use the template {{Ds/aware}} to indicate that they are aware that discretionary sanctions are in force for a topic area, so it is unnecessary to alert them.
- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
- The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.
Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 August. It will be on all wikis from 8 August (calendar).
Problems
- A change in RelatedArticles extension accidentally enabled it for everyone, not just for mobile users. This has been fixed. [37][38]
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 7 August at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Today everyone can see IP addresses if someone edits without an account. In the future this could be more hidden. This is to protect unregistered editors so fewer can see their IP address. This would only happen after we make sure the tools for vandal fighting can still be effective. You can read more and comment.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Hippolytus, Bishop of Vác draft requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Tech News
- There will be no Tech News issue next week. The next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 2 September 2019.
Problems
- Some abuse filters stopped working because of a code change. Only variables for the current action will work. Variables defined inside a branch may not work outside of that branch. You can read more to see how to fix the filters.
- Only six accounts can be created from one IP address per day. Between 12 August and August 15 this was two accounts per day. This was because of a security issue. It is now six accounts per day again. [42]
Changes later this week
- Only a limited number of accounts can be created from one IP address. An IP address can be whitelisted so that it can create as many accounts as needed. This is useful at events where many new persons learn to edit. IP addresses that are whitelisted for this reason will also not show CAPTCHAs when you create accounts. This will happen on Wednesday. [43]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 August. It will be on all wikis from 22 August (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 21 August at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- There is an RFC about creating a new global user group with the right to edit abuse filters. This will be used to fix broken filters and make sure all filters will still work when software changes happen. You can read more and comment.
Special:Contributions/newbies
will no longer be working. This is because of performance reasons. It showed edits by new accounts. You can see this in the recent changes feed instead. [44]

WikiCup 2019 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 454 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with over 400 points being eliminated, and all but two of the finalists having achieved an FA during the round. Casliber, our 2016 winner, was the highest point-scorer, followed by Enwebb and Lee Vilenski, who are both new to the competition. In fourth place was SounderBruce, a finalist last year. But all those points are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.
Round 4 saw the achievement of 11 featured articles. In addition, Adam Cuerden scored with 18 FPs, Lee Vilenski led the GA score with 8 GAs while Kosack performed 15 GA reviews. There were around 40 DYKs, 40 GARs and 31 GAs overall during round 4. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.
As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
