Welcome!

Hi, Pafcool2, and Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the encyclopedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read the simplified ruleset. There are thousands of ways to get help on Wikipedia. I personally recommend the Wikipedia:Boot Camp, where in addition to standard posts, you can use an IRC to chat online with fellow Wikipedians willing to help! In addition, Wikipedia also has pages dedicated to the use of Wikipedia, for example, if you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting pages visit the manual of style. Feel free to post questions on my talk page - I'm happy to help you with anything you need.

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Stores inside Centrale, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Adambro 13:22, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are however welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. Adambro 13:58, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:North mall.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:North mall.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Croydon park.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Croydon park.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:50, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

About your Clocktower.jpg

Hey, I noticed that you overwrote Image:Clocktower.jpg, thus making this article's image invalid. This is very close to vandalism, although perhaps unintentional, and you should not do that.

Please upload the image under a different name. You also need to provide a fair use rationale and a correct license, as the image you uploaded is by your own admission not owned by you (thus making the current license tag invalid) and I see no indication anywhere that you have permission to use the image or that it is in the public domain. Otherwise, your image will be deleted. --Darkbane 15:53, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Image:Headnew.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Headnew.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 22:03, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Homepage_pic.jpg

I have tagged Image:Homepage_pic.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. Unspecified source for Image:001_VWL1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:001_VWL1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 22:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Bch_FNK.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. BigDT 22:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Your image uploads

Please stop uploading images you did not create that do not qualify for fair use. Wikipedia does not use photos of buildings or people under a claim of fair use - they are considered to be replaceable. Also, you uploaded several images like Image:Bch WKT.jpg that say "Owned:Barnard Marcus * Copyright:Sequence Group" and are tagged with {{PD-self}}. Did you take the photos and if so, do you release them into the public domain, or do they come from somewhere else? If you did not take these photos, please say so on the image description pages and tag them with {{db-self}}. --BigDT 22:15, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Commercial use of Image:IMG 1784.gif

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:IMG 1784.gif, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:IMG 1784.gif is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:IMG 1784.gif itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 15:33, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please stop uploading images that you found on some website. Wikipedia does not use fair use images of buildings, people, etc, where we could take a photo ourselves. --BigDT 02:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Logo co-operative food.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo co-operative food.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Moving images from Wikipedia

It seems you are still having trouble with uploading images. For example, you uploaded Image:Centrale.jpg and tagged it as been released under GFDL and Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike however looking at the Wikipedia page it appears this isn't the case. Please be very careful if you are going to transfer images from Wikipedia as it is important that the details are preserved. I'll fix the images you've uploaded to date but ask that you take care in future to ensure you're doing it properly. Please do not move images from Wikipedia unless you are familiar with the relevant procedures and policies, especially Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Once again I would invite you to discuss uploading images with me if you continue to have difficulties. Regards. Adambro 20:27, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Mertonschool.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mertonschool.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 15:54, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Commercial use of Image:Dartystore.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Dartystore.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Dartystore.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Dartystore.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Fair use rationale for Image:Radiowaveslogo.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Radiowaveslogo.gif.

You have claimed to be the creator of this image and have licenced it as being public domain, however I have found the exact same photograph on the website, http://www.newlondonarchitecture.org/project.php?id=114, this leads to me believe you are not the creator and have instead copied it from that site. I have deleted it because of the probability that this is a copyright violation. Please let me know if you can clarify this issue for me and it may be appropriate to undelete the image. I have also deleted Image:Harrisbermondsy.jpg which, whilst I cannot find the exact source, I have reason to believe it is copied from http://www.harrisbermondsey.org.uk/. Adambro 12:45, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Commercial use of Image:Croydoncemetery1.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Croydoncemetery1.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Croydoncemetery1.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[3][4]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Croydoncemetery1.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Headerlogo.jpg

It is not satisfactory to simply state "I do have permission from the owner of the photo!!!", since anyone could write that regardless of whether it is true. If you have an email confirming the permission please forward it to permissions-en@wikimedia.org so details of the permission can be recorded. Also, the image page is currently missing a tag indicating what licence the image has been released under. If this information is not added then the image will be deleted. Thanks for your help. LB templates for the other boroughs of Upper Norwood

Hi, I noted you recently dropped the templates to LB Bromley & LB Lambeth on the entry for Upper Norwood. I presume this was a mistake. The article looks a bit odd with 3 templates but I guess that's just a 'feature', unless you can advise of a better way of handling it. Although there is a Croydon voting ward called Upper Norwood, this only makes up one part of the area in general. Its in a peculiar situation as it straddles several boroughs, as correctly denoted by the infobox, and this has been a source of a lot of its planning woes over recent years IMHO. Rgds, Ephebi 16:55, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

The boundaries of parishes and boroughs are easy to define, but the boundaries of the three Norwoods have been historically hard to pin down, as they were split out from one amorphous entity e.g. the Great North Wood, put into about 7 new parishes, and then some of the churches have closed leaving orphaned areas, as parishes had been superceded by the Boroughs. Ref the muddle at Crystal Palace, London. Having said that, I wholeheartedly agree with you that the practical administration for its inhabitants is via both LB Lambeth & LB Croydon (hence the campaigns directed at both councils, e.g. [5]).
Do you have a definitive source for setting a boundary for Upper Norwood? Most - but not all - sources I've seen place LB Bromley's Crystal Palace Park inside/overlapping Upper Norwood, and has LB Southwark touching it at the site of the ancient Vicar's Oak on top of Anerley Hill. As far as I can see, there are lots of clear indication of boundaries, but no consistency between them! For an encyclopedic article we should note the fact of this inconsistecy Ephebi 16:59, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Image uploads

Please stop uploading images until you take the time to familiarise yourself with the relevant policies. I have asked you do so on a number of occasions and yet you continue to upload images which you clearly are not in a position to release under a free licence. The most recent example of this is Image:Ikea97croydon.jpg which on the image page you said it was copyright London Borough of Croydon and you had downloaded it. You also state "By Pafcool2" however that photograph is clearly not by you, simply downloading the image and uploading it to Wikipedia does not make it by you or give you the right to release the image under GFDL.

If you fail to take the time to learn about Wikipedia image policies and continue to violate them you could be blocked. As I've previously offered, I would be happy to help you with this and suggest you might like to contact me and discuss any images you propose to upload so I can help determine whether we can use them on Wikipedia. Nonsense page

Please refrain from creating inappropriate pages such as Category talk talk:People from Croydon by district. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. NawlinWiki 14:08, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

More image problems

I have deleted a number of your recent image uploads to Commons as I consider they are likely copyright violations. The images appear to be photos of artists impressions. Simply taking a photo of another image does not give you the right to release that image under a free licence. Adambro 16:06, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as your numerous additions on Hope and Faith, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. These articles appear to be a copy from http://tv.com, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted has been removed. The Evil Spartan 18:45, 14 August 2007 (UTC) (was another user, my bad, The Evil Spartan 16:08, 18 August 2007 (UTC))

TV.com was used as a reference for text but not pictures. Neither did I copy text from the pages. I may of done this when I first started Wikipedia but that's aichent history now. I feel personaly offended by your suggestion on my talk page. Pafcool2 18:52, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
You can feel offended, but the text I found on many pages was a word for word copy from tv.com. I personally did a search on almost every one of those offending texts, and every time I searched, I came up with a reference from tv.com. I'm not quite sure how else the text would have gotten there, unless you added it mistakenly. Hope this helps. The Evil Spartan 00:29, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Can you please tell me which pages you're talking about, because I have not copied any writing. Some pages such as Daytime Emmys, Part 1, I just formalised (etc. Television template), and the writing was already there. This goes for most of them. I'll investigate myself into the articles and will promise to re-do them, if I find I'm mistaken but otherwise you're wrong. Fact. Pafcool2 17:11, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Most of the pages I changed, I put the copyright URL right in the edit summary. For example, the text I removed from here says right in the edit summary what the URL was. However, it looks like I, together with the bot, made an error at WP:SCV - it wasn't a new page at all that you created (the bot normally lists only new pages). It only showed up because you moved the page - as such, someone else added the copyright violation: it appears to be User:2me2me. My apologies for the misunderstanding. The Evil Spartan 16:01, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, well i'm assuming you mean where did i get it ff the interenet, it was the Stagecoach Devon website. Cheers Thenthornthing 13:11, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Goodpic MagicBusmedium.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Goodpic MagicBusmedium.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Adambro 13:26, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Just a heads up that Andrew Saul (ex-CEO of Cache and Brooks Bros.) has been nominated for featured article status here. Any input, comment and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, there is not that much info on him as it relates to his business career, and being an !expert, I'm not quite sure how well I can flesh it out. Please feel free to comment and/or improve the article. Thanks! MrPrada 21:18, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Hi there, I do a lot of reverts of vandal edits, and one of the things that catches my eye is removal of a block of content without an edit summary to say why it is being done. That is why I reverted your earlier change to Daily_Mail. I have now realised that you are in the process of working on the article.

Can I please ask you to help out your fellow editors by using the edit summary to give a brief note of what you are doing and why? This would be specially helpful if you are chopping out a block of content with the intention of dropping it back later. Many thanks for your understanding. Regards, --Stephen Burnett 16:44, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Blocked

You have been blocked for continuing to upload images with clearly inappropriate details despite my numerous warnings and offers of assistance with this issue, both here and on Commons. Before uploading any more images you should carefully study the appropriate guidelines and policies and pay particular attention to in what circumstance we can use unfree images, i.e. those without a clear statement that they are released under an appropriate free licence. The use of unfree images is very restricted as creating freely licensed content is one of the core principles of the project. Adambro 16:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
