Hello, Whpq, I got a question regarding images, are getty images allowed for being uploaded as non-free images? Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 21:50, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Non-free images from commercial agencies such as Getty Images, or Associated Press, etc. are almost never allowed as they normally would not meet WP:NFCC#2. About the only exception would be if the image itself was the subject of significant sourced commentary. An example of this is The Falling Man. Whpq (talk) 00:44, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Owentherosehead2008! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. EvergreenFir (talk) 01:53, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:AJ Styles and Omos.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:AJ Styles and Omos.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 17:45, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

Request reason:

I originally used the account Owenrose1021, but I cannot use the account because I cannot get my password for that account so that is the reason why I cannot use that account. I think I might have use a Google suggested password for that password. That is the only reason why I am making the request on here. I am not ever going to use an account to upload any pictures that are not mine. When I made this account, I did not know about the copyright guidelines nor what images were and not copyrighted. All I really wanted to do was get the main images of NFL players up to date completely oblivious to what I was doing. After I got banned from my account, I created another account, Owentherosehead2008, in which I continued to do the same thing, but I got the images from all the right sources where the images came from that I thought I was supposed to specifically from Getty Images, I was still thinking that it was okay to upload these images because of putting in sources where my images came from. I then realized after I was banned from my second account about how much I was putting Wikipedia into legal jeopardy. I have appealed a few times on here, and whether you unblock me or not, I promise I will never edit something I was not supposed to, nor upload anything without looking for any copyrights and fair use. I will do better. Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 00:08, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Highly likely block evasion last month. You are now closer to a WP:CBAN (see WP:3X) than an unblock. Yamla (talk) 12:15, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

is closed. Noting check user block. Noting the assurances made via User talk:Owenrose1021 that proved empty. That is the original account from which any appeal must be made. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 01:05, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That account is no longer available, so we will appeal here. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:42, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

'Hello, it has been a while since I have been on here. So I initially used the account Owenrose1021, but I cannot sign in so I have had permission to do it on here. So I initially got banned for using copyrighted images online for NFL Players to update them on current teams they were currently on. I was not sure why I was getting my photos deleted, it was obviously because of copyright reasons. Then after I got banned for editing, a couple months later I created a new account (which is this one) which I thought by giving a direct source which the choose a non-free image option (which was getty images) and got blocked in a couple weeks. Roughly a year later, I started doing brief edits on my phone like tweaking articles with more detail or adding more detail. I did a request on here, and that obviously did not get accepted. After that I decided to not ask about anything for a while. I would like to apologize for not following guidelines on this app multiple times, and I never tended to do anything bad. I was not aware how bad of an issue I was doing. I am going to pay attention to what I am editing or uploading so nothing bad will happen again.'

Accept reason:

It is still there. Please remove it, not just the link to it from Wikipedia. JBW (talk) 13:27, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How do I remove it? Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 13:34, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I might have removed it, but I am not certain Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 16:51, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deepfriedokra: I really wish this appeal included evidence of productive activity on another project, but you know what they say bout wishes. Problem list and unblock discussion

[edit]

Thanks, we are ready to move to the next level. Problems I saw at the other account include unsourced edits, being too bold in changing images, and copyright problems. How will you prevent these problems from recurring? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:41, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I will prevent these things by finding the real source with edits, not upload copyrighted images and making sure that all images are okay with Wikipedia's policy. Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 23:43, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I do't want to act hastily and await discussion/comments from other admins -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 11:52, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sounds good Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 12:04, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please elaborate on making sure that all images are okay with Wikipedia's policy. How will you do that? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:23, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I will look at image to see what creative commons license is with the images. I will also use common sense and use sites like Flickr that mention whether you can distribute it or not. I will not use Getty images or any sort of sites like that that have copyrighted images. If I genuinely have no idea, I would probably ask someone in the Wiki community. Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 17:00, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(sigh) Blocking admin has not responded or edited in a couple of weeks -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:19, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you for letting me know, i will be patient Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 13:07, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
??? Actually, Deepfriedokra, she has made 479 edits in that time, as you can see at https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/Ponyo&target=Ponyo&offset=202402051220&limit=479 and she responded on this page at 22:20, 1 February 2024, as you can see above. Are you perhaps confusing her with some other administrator? Her message at 22:20, 1 February 2024 seems to be intended to give permission for any administrator to unblock, which effectively means removing its status as a CheckUser block, although she didn't explicitly say that in so many words. Unfortunately she really hasn't edited for about three days now, so it may be difficult to check with her. Perhaps the best thing is to ask another CU whether they are willing to officially remove the CU status of the block. Yamla, you did a CU for this account before (see above, 12:15, 10 June 2023); what do you think? JBW (talk) 17:59, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking. --Yamla (talk) 18:03, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ponyo signed off somewhere above. " I really wish this appeal included evidence of productive activity on another project, but you know what they say bout wishes. If an admin feels that, on the balance, this editor is likely to be able to contribute productively then an unblock is fine" The blocking admin on the original account is Jake Wartenberg -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:16, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Still waiting on Jake Wartenberg -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:18, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Purely based on CU technical data, there's no likely block evasion. It's not quite as clear as when I did the check last month, but I'm pretty sure. So, CU cleared. As to the unblock itself. I'd have liked to see a history of constructive edits elsewhere. And I'd have liked to not see what happened with that email. Still, reblocks are cheap. I'm okay with Deepfriedokra lifting the block here and watching to make sure the old problems don't reoccur. Owentherosehead2008, if you are unblocked, I'd strongly advise not uploading any images and not copying and pasting from anywhere; copyright is hard to understand and I'd suggest sticking to well-cited (WP:CITE and WP:RS) text-only edits, at least for the first six months. That's a suggestion, not a requirement. --Yamla (talk) 18:14, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK per original blocking admin -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 22:33, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will do that. I kind of have anxiety for uploading photos at this moment lol. Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 23:33, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
if i got any questions, i will ask one of the admins on here Owentherosehead2008 (talk) 00:53, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Rudy Gobert, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ben Wallace. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
