Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. Not Wlwtn (talk) 08:27, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Oshalah, please respond to the suggestion of conflict of interest - either here on your talk page or in the relevant discussion at the Conflict of Interest noticeboard (here [1]) before making any further edits to the articles for Oshala Herath or the 2024 Sri Lankan election. Thank you. Axad12 (talk) 14:50, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you . Oshala Herath is a Candidate of the Presidential Election. He was the forth to deposit for candidacy and so far the youngest. We have only edited to include his details as per the page format and the information all candidates happen to be posting in the page. We tried to upload two photos of Oshala Herath, which are his own and copyright free, but unfortunately these photos are being also removed. There are no minor or major candidates in a race. Some one who calls one candidate a minir is surley working for another they consider as major. Some of the candidates who's name are in that page are yet to announce officialy. Oshalah (talk) 01:10, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you wish remove the details of Oshala Herath which I have included on the page as I am no professional in this. People charge upto $ 50 per hour to make and edit wikipeida pages which is definitely creat a COI when such people make edits.. if those editors who complaint are not having any COI or biasness towards a candidate why not they edit all information about all candidates equally? Oshalah (talk) 01:43, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oshalah, please clarify your connection to Oshala Herath.
Your username very closely replicates that individual's name. You recently created an article about the individual (which was deleted for being unambiguous advertising) and you uploaded an image of the individual to Commons [2], noting it as "own work". You also appear to be a single purpose account editing solely on the subject of Oshala Herath.
Evidently this is not the pattern of behaviour of an uninvolved user, so please explain your connection.
If you have any connection at all you should not be editing any article related to that individual. Axad12 (talk) 05:54, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have mentioned above that the image is "his own", but you uploaded it as "own work". How can you possibly not be connected in some way? Axad12 (talk) 05:57, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Asked for an image of his not published anywhere as the images of him published else where was being rejected by wikipedia. Fact is he is candidate of the election. It is Official. if you feel he is not and the facts are not verified please remove my entries about him. Removing his information makes the page incomplete. If all entries are done by volunteers none related or bias they shoule details of all 22 candidates who have already annouced upto date. Therefore it is obvious all entries are by interested parties only.
If you feel my entrie has to be removed please do so.. I will not enter anything here after. But I request you to do a reserch about the facts entered and as an independent person you to make the entires giving equal awareness as the other candidates. I believe wikipedia priorty is to make sure viewer get comprehensive complete information. therefore please publish the information. thank you Oshalah (talk) 06:35, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have not disputed that he is a candidate in the election, I am asking if you are connected to him in any way. Axad12 (talk) 06:50, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have given a reply and it seems you either not happy with it or don't trust my reply. I am no more related than most of the other editors publish information about their prefered candidates. Oshalah (talk) 11:24, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not going to make any further edits to the page, even the enrtry is deleted. Oshala Herath was the 3rd person officially to make deposits for nomination and first person nominated by a registered political party. All candidates are equal in their rights and previllages. There are some candidates who have not officially deposited for nomination on that list. The list is published by the election commission of Sri Lanka is all media. Either it should be first come first serve basis or according the order given by the Elections Commission. Whenever make it official they entry goes to the top.
If you can please make a profile page for him. there are plenty of references about him on the web. Since you have no relation whatso ever to him I believe you will do a perfect thing. Thanks 🧒 Oshalah (talk) 11:34, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am not happy with your replies, which have been universally evasive and give the impression that you are connected. Please either confirm or deny whether you have any connection to Oshala Herath. It is a simple question.
If you have a connection you need to declare a conflict of interest on your user page and make edit requests on the article talk page rather than editing the article directly.
I am certainly not going to set up an article about Oshala Herath. Axad12 (talk) 11:36, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am a volunteer supporting him. If that creats COI please tell me how to make the edit request. As I am totally new to this.
One more question there are people who write article for a payment.Does it creat a COI if we hiring someone to create a article ?? Oshalah (talk) 11:46, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it most definitely does. That would be one of the strongest possible forms of conflict of interest.
All of the information about conflict of interest can be found in the relevant policy, which can be located here: WP:COI. It includes info on declaring conflicts of interest and making COI edit requests. Axad12 (talk) 12:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How can I get the information of Oshala Herath on Wikipedia, If he cannot do it and if I cannot do it, and if we cannot pay someone to do it... then how.. only way I see is pray to GOD.. being honest.. why would someone else do it for no reason.. I believe most of them what they do is pay some stranger to do it and not admit that he is hired.. Pls advice me how to get it done? thank you Oshalah (talk) 14:03, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think in the first instance it is something that you ought to discuss with your mentor, details of whom can be found on your homepage. At the top of this page, to the right of the 'search' button, you will see "Oshalah" written in blue. Click there and it will take you to your homepage. Somewhere there it ought to say "YOUR MENTOR: We’ve assigned you an experienced editor to answer your questions about editing". And that's where it will say who your mentor is for queries of this nature. Hopefully this helps. Axad12 (talk) 14:52, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.. but couldn't find a Mentor or place saying Your Mentor on that page. Can you be my MENTOR please? Oshalah (talk) 15:59, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid not, as when it comes to the 2024 Sri Lankan Presidential Election I am strictly neutral. Also I have never created an article from scratch, so you actually have more experience than I do in that particular activity(!). Sorry.
In the absence of a mentor, an alternative would be for you to go to the WP:TEAHOUSE and ask the question there. There are people there who should be well equipped to point you in the right direction. Axad12 (talk) 16:08, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Oshalah, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username.

If you choose to keep your current username, please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org including your real name and your Wikipedia username to receive instructions from our volunteer response team about account verification. Please do not send documentation without being requested to do so.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change to this account.

  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.

Important items to note:

  • The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • The new username you choose cannot already be taken and used by another account. You can search here to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns, "There is no global account for [username]", that means it is available.

Accept reason:

I have renamed your account and will remove the block. You will need to formally declare your conflict of interest on your user page(User:CitizenLK). If you don't at least attempt to do this soon, you may be reblocked. You should also be aware that merely being a candidate for public office does not merit someone an article, per the definition of a notable politician. They either need to already hold public office, or have won their election. The other option is to show that they meet the broader definition of a notable person for some other aspect of their life besides being a politician. 331dot (talk) 07:40, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
