John Forrest in Swan

[edit]

This is a very belated quibble, but I've just found an edit in the Division of Swan where you removed the Western Australian Party affiliation from John Forrest (1906-1910), stating "per source on 1906 election". The parliamentary handbook has his affiliation as "WAP" for that period, as does Adam Carr on Psephos. Could you provide your source? Thanks. Frickeg (talk) 23:47, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right - thanks. Would you say that your source has precedence over the handbook, or vice versa? Perhaps, as two reputable sources give contradictions, this should be noted in the article? (Footnote, perhaps?) Frickeg (talk) 06:33, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about Combatting Vandalism:

[edit]

I was just wondering about if there could be any outside Wikipedia consequences for vandalism and threats such as with the police or other formal prosecution? Thanks for your reply in advance.

Vandalsleuth Award

[edit]
Slakr's Vandalsleuth Award

For going above and beyond the call of duty in fighting vandals, I hereby award you this vandal-burning infrared beam intensifier disc and a set a matching stainless steeel vandal-grabbers. You probably won't actually need them, though, seeing as you already seem to handle vandals quite nicely without either. But, I figured some extra tools might help. :P

Thanks again, and keep up the amazing work. =) --slakrtalk / 12:52, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment at MfD

[edit]

I entirely agree. The way I see it... Philippe here is my unofficial big brother. I met him in a 3rr warning (ick) and since then if I have any issues, I go ahead and bring it to him. Otherwise, I do some digging for answers to random things such as format, policy, images and all that fun stuff. But see, the fact that I do that searching is a good thing, because instead of someone spoon feeding me the stuff, I actually learn how to find utilities. Anyway. I didnt want to actually "vote" in the MfD since I had a previous issue with RyRy and I didnt want anyone to figure a conflict of interest. Thanks for your comments! On a completely seperate note... I wanted to know if you had noticed that Diligent Terrier has a userbox that says that they perform admin duties... but when I check the list of admins his name does not show there. Is he an admin? Or just masquerading? Its a little confusing. Cheers! Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 13:32, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever the case, please don't edit war, as your edit summary asks. Re-removing the messages merely makes them more obvious. - auburnpilot talk 13:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You tell me not to edit war... all I did was add back the message you removed. That isn't "warring". Please check up on what edit warring is before accusing others of doing it - what you did certainly was edit warring though. Majorly (talk) 21:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Previous local government articles

[edit]

Hi I was wondering if I could get some advise concerning some of the previous local government articles:

City of Cairns Council and Mulgrave Shire Council (yet to be created) merged in 1995 to form City of Cairns
Then in 2008 City of Cairns and Shire of Douglas merged to become Cairns Regional Council

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the naming scheme specifically the City of Cairns Council and City of Cairns articles? Fosnez (talk) 06:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Emmerdale episodes

[edit]

Thanks for taking your time to explain the formatting issue regarding Template:Emmerdale episodes to the user whom I was mentioning. Regrettably, they have ignored this and quite disrespectfully reverted your change back to their own last one, ignoring time formatting differences and the ability of preference changes (diff). How should this best be progressed? Cheers. Bungle (talkcontribs) 19:04, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your efforts. I'll keep an eye on AN/I for updates. Bungle (talkcontribs) 19:52, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simple English username usurption

[edit]

Because of technical reasons (bugzilla:13507), once SUL has been started, no username can be changed to one matching an SUL name. As such I can not rename the account to Orderinchaos. Since the account does not exist on Simple:WP, you should have no difficulty logging in directly under that name. I would suggest just creating the account and moving/redirecting your pages over to it. As the "78" account has only a few edits, there should not be major issues with doing this. The other option would be waiting for the bug to get fixed and requesting a rename at that time. Creol (talk) 21:55, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Former City of Geelong

[edit]

Please note that I restored the edit to Template:Victoria former LGAs that you so quickly reverted. The template in question indexes articles about former local governments. The City of Geelong page is not such an article—in fact, it is not an article at all, just a disambiguation page that provides links to articles. The only article on Wikipedia that contains any information about the former City of Geelong local government is Geelong, Victoria; specifically, the "History" and (to some extent) "Government" sections of that article. So there was a good reason for changing the template. --Russ (talk) 14:49, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mark McGowan

[edit]

Hi, I don't understand why the Minister of Education text (fully referenced) was removedfrom the article. It is all commentary of his performance as minister of Education and the decisions that he has made while in the position of Minister of Education. Surely this would count as part of a biography of any person? Regards —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.100.187.179 (talk) 09:24, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MONGO block

[edit]

Hi, I would like to undo your block of MONGO. I realize you've already done that, then you reconsidered and reduced the time, but I'd like to undo it entirely. There's evidence of prior bad feeling between MONGO and Tango, so the first block was not appropriate, and MONGO is now saying he has retired, which makes the current block unnecessary and more than a little humiliating (which I realize is not your doing at all — quite the reverse). Please let me know your thoughts. Cheers, SlimVirgin talk|edits 01:31, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am second here, he already has served more than 5 hours that IMHO is much to long for a minor incivility of a major content producer, especially as Tango had conflicts of interests here Alex Bakharev (talk) 02:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I enacted it as a reading of consensus which I personally disagreed with, as AN/I was howling at my decision to unblock per time served which I thought avoided unnecessary drama and still made whatever point people felt had to be made. I have no problem with anyone reviewing/undoing it. Orderinchaos 02:41, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've left a note for Tango too. SlimVirgin talk|edits 04:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a lot of support for the block at ANI; the evidence of previous interaction is from 2006. If the block is going to be lifted, consensus at ANI ought to be developed first. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just letting you know that, after carefully reading all the comments on AN/I and elsewhere, I've unblocked, as there was significant concern about the block. I've left a comment here. SlimVirgin talk|edits 06:04, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thuringowa

[edit]

Hi sorry but what dispute?, it is fact that these suburbs used to be Thuringowa's back in the late 1800's early 1900's and this is part of the history and by having Thuringowa helps to point out that these suburbs used to be a part of it's early history and that Thuringowa named them. Plus i thought it was ok, as we are talking about the history, if i wanted to i could add all of the suburbs that were in Thuringowa (like i was told to do) but i haven't yet due to the fact that everytime i add something, the same few editors pick it to bits, while other editors find what i did ok. Resolving disputes on less traveled pages

[edit]

Thank you for your explanation. I tried COI a month ago, today i just posted for a third party. I can't understand why there are no admins taking this on. It seems pretty clear the company is heavily editing the content for corporate vanity. They have one link, to their website and delete any others that are just as relevant. etc etc.

I assume that when I am the only one willing take the time to address this, eventually an Admin will have to arbitrate this? is that the general procedure? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RealWorldExperience (talkcontribs) 23:33, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply re: Queensland LGA's, particularly ATSI LGA's

[edit]

Just in case you're not watching, I thought I'd let you know I replied to your most recent message/s here! Bruceanthro (talk) 19:41, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your further comments/reply and shared interest in getting some 'interesting' Queensland local government articles together.
Thanks also for the feedback on Weipa. I'm not yet quite up to starting an article on that odd ball local authority that somehow skipped review by the Local Government Reform Commission ie Weipa Town Authority .. but I did just now find some web references alluding to the arrangements (which must be legislated!) here and here.
I note from the first ref .. that Weipa Town Authority rate payers votes appear to be timed to coincide with the rest of Queensland's local government elections. I also seperately checked Cook Shire Council web site minutes .. and found minutes from Feb 2008 .. reporting proposals and requests by Weipa Town Authority to shift it's boundaries (presumably not disenfranchising anyone else from Cook Shire elections in the process!!
Otherwise .. I do hope we do get a chance to make something of featurable interest out of these materials .. re: interesting histries and idiosyncracies in Queensland local government arrangments!!  :-} Bruceanthro (talk) 14:14, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

City of Geelong

[edit]

Thanks for making the article - I guess making new articles is much easier when you have the right sources in front of you. There a few typos (multiple 'reff')and left over bits from the template stuck in there though. Wongm (talk) 04:06, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The misspelled 'reff' must be in the template you are using for creation - pops up in a few spots. Wongm (talk) 04:08, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Harrassment by attempted "outing"

[edit]

Thank you for removing the questionable material from my talk page. I would also draw your attention to the two posts following that one as I am quite certain that User:Mountlaurel is the same person as User:Fieldgoalunit and the post on Saturday by the latter is another, but more subtle attempt, at "outing". This attempt was carried out immediately after the ban on him by User:Keeper76 expired and he is again trying to "out" me by reference to a book (i.e., about Allan Watkins) that he believes I have written.

Would it be possible to have those two posts removed too, please? Thanks again. --JamesJJames (talk) 06:00, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Outing

Just a quick note to thank you for your help and advice. I have removed the unwanted posts as you suggested. Kind regards. --JamesJJames (talk) 18:42, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what's going on. An editor appears to have deleted several threads outright, here. Miszabot then archived, here, which the same editor undid two edits later, thus. I restored the archival, here, but then noticed the additional missing threads and restored them here. My intent was to remove the threads that Miszabot did indeed archive, and I had removed two, when you reverted me. Is there a better way to fix this issue? Thanks in advance, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:06, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I've inquired about their intent, though I'm not sure what excuse there would be for such an extensive removal. UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:09, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all - as you say, we probably both did the same thing at the same time. I'm going to go in and delete the threads that did get copied over to the archives, but the version from here on out should have everything from before the removal. Thanks, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:11, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed at least a dozen threads that I can confirm were properly copied. I'm sure I missed a few, but - worst case scenario - Miszabot can catch them on the next run. Thanks again, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 15:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As it turned out I was wrong about Blackwood and Greendale. Just goes to show how relying on memory instead of sources can get you into trouble. They are of course in the Shire of Ballan.
