Hi, if Bolton's page can't have the squad list the way i set it (i accept your reasons why!), Can we make it (and others) in the style of West Ham United F.C.? They do seem to have the best format for there squad list. Thanks, Bwfc 23:20, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, If West Ham's Squad list is against the rules (like Bolton's) Then maybe you should consider changing it like Bolton's? Just a Thought. - Bwfc 22:05, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- Newcastle United F.C. and Manchester United F.C. squad lists are also set out this way, is there a reason for them not to be? Mark272 17:43, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Need help
[edit]I need your help on two pages of English football clubs: Gloucester City A.F.C. and Colchester United F.C. can you help me with the expansion of these pages??
Rakuten06 18:10, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you very much!! I have a website for both of these teams, want me to give you the names of the websites??
- I have an interest of International sports, and wanting to expand the stubs of international sports clubs, I became not interested in American sports, that's why, I want to expand the international sports stubs, is that enough for you?? Rakuten06 18:51, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks, you need anything to help or you're fine?? Each day, the each club's stub will added to the watchlist, so I'm glad to have you as my partner for expansion of international sports's clubs, I'm not sure if I can start an article about international sports clubs Rakuten06 19:11, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
Attempt to respond
[edit]Hello, Oldelpaso. I hope I've got this right! I still am unsure how to "talk" to people after I go to their "Talkpage" so I'm stuck with this for now! I am - as you are probably thinking right now - a complete idiot when it comes to things like this!
Incidentally, I really like the info on the right-hand side of your UserPage (you know, the "This User speaks English" and "This User supports" some team from Manchester (no offence!) and the suchlike! How (if you're still willing to talk to me!) do you manage things like that!
I don't know much about Rugby, either - only what I've picked up over the last few years, so I'll probably not be much use to the Wikipedia Rugby Project people, but thanks for the suggestion anyway - I will look into it!
Sorry for ruining your TalkPage - I'm sure you can fix it pretty quickly!

New team to the watchlist
[edit]I added a new team to the watchlist, it's from Portugal: Associação Naval 1º Maio, it's just promoted from Division II for the first time, so that's brand-new article to my watchlist, just to update you for any new teams
Rakuten06 21:52, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry to interrupt you, but a new team has added to my watchlist: Atlètic Club d'Escaldes, the soccer club from Andorra, I already created the external link and current playing squad
Rakuten06 22:58, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- Two more teams added to my list of teams: Budapest Honvéd FC and Bohemian FC, Budapest team in Hungary, and Bohemian in Northern Ireland (if I got the second team's country right), will keep you updated of more new teams
Rakuten06 00:54, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- a new team to my watchlist: C.F. Estrela da Amadora, the team is in the same as Naval: SuperLiga, just promoted from Division II
Will keep you updated

World Cup vote
[edit]With your neutral vote would you anticipate that the vote would be discounted or should it be used to calculate the total votes and the consequent percentage majority and thus be registered as a half vote for for and a half vote against the move? Jooler 10:15, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Manchester City
[edit]Hi! I believe we need to discuss the famous players section of the Manchester City. By famous, I understand big reputation players and it means George Weah, Peter Schmeichel and David Seaman should be there. However I don't think that's what it is meant to be. So I would like to suggest a rename of the section to something like "most important players". Also, you pointed Seaman and Wanchope should not be there as they didn't play enough games for the club. I would like to add Deyna made just 34 league appearances in his three year spell. Keen to hear from you. Marceloschleder 16:59, 3 January (UTC)
- "Noted players" would be better, I guess. I'm also adding a couple of new important players as Tony Book (Football Writers Player of the Year in 1969). I also created an article about John Benson. If you have the time, take a quick look please. Marceloschleder 19:17, 4 January (UTC)
- I believe Manchester City 10-1 win over Huddersfield is their record league win. At least, that's what most of the websites and magazines believe it's right as the goal difference between the teams is 9. Even though City once scored 11 in a game, they conceded three, so the margin was smaller. Thoughts? Marceloschleder 15:58, 6 January (UTC)
- What about this? 10-1 as the record league win and 11-3 as the most goals scored in a league game? It would make justice to both wins, IMO. Anyway, I created an article about Mel Machin. Take a quick look please, if you have the time. Marceloschleder 19:02, 6 January (UTC)

- Oh, wait, I think you're asking me how to do it (versus how did I do it). That article has been deleted, so you should be able to delete it from the "articles for deletion" page, noting in the edit summary that it's been speedied. Unless perhaps an admin has to officially close the afd discussion....I think I've seen that before. Ohnoitsjamie 19:17, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- Would you mind taking a look at this edit [1] for Kiki Musampa? "Fallen out of favor" seems a tad POV. Stats I found in Soccerbase.com seem to indicate that he's been playing this season, but you're much more knowledgeable in this area than I. Ohnoitsjamie 21:03, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Premiership cleanup
[edit]Cheers - I'm currently working through Special:Contributions/AlexWilkes from the bottom up - Arsenal, Bolton, Blackburn & Charlton I've already done. Birmingham's article is a total mess and needs a lot of TLC, Aston Villa I've left alone for the moment (as I'd linked to it from Wikiproject Football). Someone has already sorted out the Chelsea article. I'll probably keep ploughing through it today, but if you just do the same on any articles it would be much appreciated. Qwghlm 11:49, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Additional - I've just sorted out Everton, which was a nightmare (merging and re-ordering not two but three separate sections about the club's recent history). Might take a break from it for a bit, so feel free to carry on from there. Qwghlm 12:05, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've just removed the one from United (it had nothing but what was said above, plus the author's POV). I'll sort out Villa, and start on the ex-Premiership clubs (at home listening to Arsenal v. Cardiff on the radio at the moment). Thanks a lot for helping out. Qwghlm 13:51, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- Right, I've sorted out Villa, and have got as far as Ipswich Town in the other clubs. The ex-Premiership clubs are trickier as some of their articles really do need a lot of cleanup - not just what AlexWilkes (talk · contribs) has added but other users' additions too. I didn't realise how badly-maintained some articles are. Qwghlm 16:39, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

- Got up to Norwich City, but I've balked at Nottingham Forest - the article is a total shambles and I haven't the time to fix it. If you want to give it a go feel free, else skip it and we can leave it another time. Qwghlm 13:46, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing the rest, I've just sorted out Wolves; having gone through them I think we've sorted out all of the articles that need to have the Premiership additions between us. Thanks a lot once again - have a WikiThanks from me. :-) Qwghlm 18:14, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
I know everybody calls him the first million pound player, but everybody can be wrong :) I think the problem lies in exactly how you count the transfer fee - the agreed fee might have been less than £1m, but it may have rose above £1m with agents fees, signing fee etc. I'll try and dig out some references. sjorford (talk) 14:25, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Case in point: Rothmans 1980 says Steve Daley's fee was "£1,437,500 (£1,150,000 basic fee)" - which was it? I think you're right that the higher figure is the one to quote in this case, but tying these things down is messy. sjorford (talk) 14:32, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Wikiproject on non-league football
[edit]I've been thinking about creating a WikiProject for English non-league football, and am trying to find out if there's enough interest to make it worth doing. It would be useful to have somewhere for people who are interested in non-league football to have a place to discuss articles, and if there's enough interest we could get a monthly collaboration going with a view to getting non-league articles on the front page. It would be listed as a sub-project of WikiProject Football unless the members of that project objected strongly to it, and people would be able to join either or both (or neither) depending on what they were interested in. I thought you might be interested so I'd like to know if you are - if I get more than 3 or 4 positive replies I'll set it up. File:Yemen flag large.png CTOAGN (talk) 12:46, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Wigan Athletic F.C.
[edit]I reverted one of your changes to Wigan Athletic F.C., and its only fair to tell you why. You wrote This also effectively guarantees Wigan a place in the UEFA Cup in the 2006/07 season, as even if they lose to Manchester United, the latter team is almost certain to win a European place from a high Premiership finish, causing the League Cup slot to be passed down to Wigan. Unlike the FA Cup, finishing runner up in the League Cup does not grant qualification if the winner qualifies for Europe by other means; the place would then go to the next highest in the League. Oldelpaso 18:01, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, and my edit summary is possibly a little harsh - I initially misread it as though you'd predicted European qualifiacation through league placing. Oldelpaso 18:01, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

English Leagues
[edit]I agree with your idea. Although I do think that we should keep more of the data I'm compiling due to the fact that it's more accurate (has the top-three finishers rather than the winners). Obviously when more complete, I will make a note of promotion, due to the fact that the top three of the lower divisions aren't always the ones who get promoted. I also plan on adding play-off winners when I get to it and the brief histories. I'd much appreciate it if you want to be involved in doing this! Right now I'm adding the southern section of Division 3. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cintrianex (talk • contribs) 23:55, 9 February 2006

FIFA WC 1978
[edit]I did a quick google search and I can't seem to find good ones. The Argentine Football Association's web page [www.afa.org.ar] has been down and only a token informative page remains, that would've been the first place to look. Just google "mundial 78" (or 1978) to see what you can find. ("Mundial" is how Argentines refer to the FIFA WC). :)

- The problem with the Argentine copyright law, is that we can't just get any image that has been published in Argentina that we might find on the net, but we must scan them ourselves from the original source, since the scanning itself might be copyrighted (pretty much like the OCRed version of the Britannica 1911, which are copyrighted). I just came back form Argentina, were I could have searched for an old magazine or something. We should ask Pablo, he's still home. Mariano(t/c) 06:32, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

English football champions
[edit]It wasn't as much the number of teams (the number of teams does not reveal whether they played two or three times against each other, anyways) - it was more the exact number of matches played I was looking for, either for the entire team or the specific top scorers. Fore example, 60 goals/season would be more or less impressive depending on a season of 38 or 50 (or 24) games. To not have the same text of xx goals/xx games, you could include a small notice in the "history" section on the changes in league structure (if there ever was any changes), or perhaps link to an already existing article on that topic (if it exists). Tbh, although it's a little longer than Arsenal F.C. or IFK Göteborg, it's not that much, and I don't think it's an obstacle to it being an FA. But some trimming I would make:
- Exact date of MCFC PLC being founded is pretty minor too.
- rm "the most prestigious knockout tournament in English football"
- Trim the first paragraphs of the 1960s & 1970s section, rm reference to the "Ballet on Ice" match or the fifteenth place.
- I'd keep Law's backheel against the Reds. :-)
- "One such example was the signing of Steve Daley, which broke the British transfer record." could just become "such as Steve Daley" - I can see some other parts of the article which could be similarly reduced, but maybe it's easier if I just give them a go myself?
- Cut out the recent 3-0/4-3 reverse against Spurs (as it had no long-term impact) and merge the last two paras.
If I were you, I'd also convert slashes in seasons to hyphens to conform with Wikipedia practice, and expunge references to "summer" to avoid offending antipodean Wikipedians (I got done for this in Arsenal's FAC). As I said, I'll give the article a quick going over (I can spot lots of minor niggles and style issues that are easier to correct myself than tell you at length about) to boot. :-) Qwghlm 22:56, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I have permission to use the text, from the website owner.
Can you tell me where I have used a bias slant as I will change this.
Hello, it's nice to know that people want to make it featured. There are some things that can be improved, though:
- It'd be nice to have an image of some World Cup match or victory celebration.
- The history section may need to be split off.
- During the PR and FAC, some questions about the history have been asked. It'd be nice to do some research and answer them:
- From Daniel Case:
- What were the earlier tiebreaking methods?
- Are the any countries that have never participated in the Cup?
- Emir Sabah's decision to personally argue with the ref at Valladolid in 1982, the role of soccer victories in propping up the Argentinian and Brazilian military governments (05:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC))
- From Joao Ricardo:
- What about political influence (Mussolini in 1934, Football War in 1970)?
- What was the story of cancelling the World Cup in 1942 and 1946?
- How did media coverage on the event change?
- From Daniel Case:
Actually, we may not need to do all of this, it's more of a perfectionist approach :) Conscious 18:29, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

yes, FK Maladzechna-2000 is the same team (first, it changed name few times, adding and removing 2000; second, it is usually unclear how to translate city names to English - it could be FC Maładečna as well). It is playing at the third level now, being at the highest level in 2003 for the last time. There is generally too little info about teams playing at the low levels here, sorry :(. [edit]I'm not totally convinced - the claim is prefixed with the phrase [His agent] is understood..., though whether the rumour is that RVP is Muslim, or merely that his agent helped convert him, I'm not sure. The Standard is a ghastly little rag, especially when it comes to its sports coverage, and to me doesn't carry the authority of a broadsheet or major broadcaster. If that's the only article (nearly a year old) that makes any hint, it doesn't really convince me. Qwghlm 20:27, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
