Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Invisible labor, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Academics. About the closing ceremony...

So I had to leave right around the closing ceremony ended to be able to go to the airpoint and your announcement shocked me (you really should have let me know that you were planning something in advance). I haven't really had time to really process what happened and it's stressing me out. Anyways, the point is that I have no idea what's going on and I'd like more information. I don't think I'm the only person who is confused, so I'd just appreciate whatever you can say about the matter on-wiki. I think the basic idea is that you want to give me money but you're also starting some sort of grant-like program? Given that my keynote, my name and a lot of money is attached to this, I think I deserve to know what is happening. I'm sure all of this came from a good place but the implementation has caused me a lot of unnecessary stress. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 01:58, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Dear Clovermoss,
I can't imagine the mix of emotions you're feeling, especially after your extremely brave and vulnerable speech. I understand that you are stressed, confused, and maybe even angry at the way this was handled.
First, here is what happened.
Many people were deeply affected by your story. After I was approached by Chris wanting to somehow give back, we were inspired to take action to support young editors by investing in broadening their opportunities.
That is why we created the Butterfly Fund, in your honor, and to support other young editors with great talents. Your keynote catalyzed feelings of generosity, vulnerability, and motivation. The power of your story resulted in the fund.
We did not tell you this was coming before we announced it. I intended it to be a [good] surprise. That was a mistake, and I am deeply sorry for the stress it caused you.
You're doing amazing work, and this was our way of showing pride and appreciation for your contributions. What you've done for yourself is amazing. We wanted to empower you have to the opportunity to follow your dreams, whatever they are.
It is your choice if you wish to accept the award. It's your choice how, or even whether, you use these funds.
Please know that I am sorry for the pain that I caused during a day that was already vulnerable and stressful as you offered a keynote for the first time.
I understand why you are confused and will answer any questions you have. I hope we can talk more. You can decide what happens next.

I think I just need some time. It's been a really stressful day and I'm stuck in the US overnight because my connecting flight was delayed by about eight hours. So I don't really want to make any decisions right now about what I want to do or not. I appreciate the apology. Is there like a timeline for when I need to be making any decisions? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:59, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
You do not have to make any decisions. There is absolutely no timeline. This is up to you, as you see fit to handle it when you feel ready to. There is also no pressure from me to make any particular choice or decision; I want you to do what is best for you, once you've had space to figure that out, process, and gather more information/opinions/support. Please take as much time as you need. Sorry about your flight, too. Jake Ocaasi t | c 05:05, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
