I'm looking for input from recent Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies users regarding the above template. your input on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject on open proxies would be appreciated, if you have any preferences regarding the TOR link in the template. Re. Portuguese to English translation
[edit]Sure. The user who wrote that is Brazilian and his/her message says, "You remember me. I've been here before and I've been writing the truth about Wikipedia and what you did to me, but I was given a block for my comments. I just wanted to say that I'll be back soon enough". Sounds a bit trollish. :-) Regards, Húsönd 02:26, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Aspiring to become an admin?
[edit]Why is that important to you (Noticed it on your userpage) Is that why you cozy up to Schumin and others here, because you are trying to become an Admin? Where is your pride man. 86.40.200.196 (talk) 17:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps you should actually edit articles before looking for adminship. Adminship (Going by the crop of people who do it here) seems to attract fat lardo's who never got dates trying to release some sexual frustration. They probably ran out of porn. Anyway, good luck, but maybe you'd be better getting a life, a girlfriend and a hobby? Wasting your life away using the likes of Schumin as a role model won't get you very far. 86.40.200.196 (talk) 17:44, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Restored, because I feel personal attacks to me should be shown on my talk page. Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me) 19:47, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- And what makes you think I don't have a girlfriend and/or hobby? Please, no assumptions of my personal life. Or perhaps you'd like a community ban? Because I'm about to propose it to the Wikipedia community that you be banned. Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me) 19:49, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
They weren't personal attacks, I'm just pointing out that people who want to be admins on this place are by and large the kind of people who never do actual constructive contributions (Such as actually adding to an encyclopedia) By and large the intention is to give themselves a power rush. There is also the kind of person who likes being 'involved' or 'in charge'. I believe you are that kind of person. 86.40.216.105 (talk) 17:29, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- User:86.40.216.105, one of the things I look for at an RfA is whether the candidate has had the opportunity to demonstrate grace in the presence of hostility. Thanks. Ronnotel (talk) 17:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, to answer the question, I am aspiring to become an admin, so I signed up for coaching. As for cozying up to other people... is there a reason I shouldn't be nice to everyone here? Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me) 20:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
User:Retail Investor
[edit]I'm in complete agreement that User:Retail Investor is a spam user. However, I thought that deleting user pages was a no no. If I'm mistaken then go right ahead, but you might want to find out whether user pages can be speedied. Ronnotel (talk) 20:37, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Plano High School threat logs
[edit]FYI, I got a call from Det. McClendon from the Plano Police Dept today. We went over the facts of the case, the threat, etc. He has stated his interest in working with us in order to get him and his department information which would lead to the identity of whomever issued this threat, but indicated he is not the most technical. I said we're a bunch of geeks who would likely want to help and I see above that you and perhaps others have begun to work on this. I am waiting for a call back from him as we got disconnected (my phone died), but I thought I'd update you. Bstone (talk) 19:08, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]To avoid confusion and misunderstanding: I've reverted an edit you made to ANI. It somehow screwed up the thread about Lir, possibly as a result of a server glitch. I have since restored your comment. AecisBrievenbus 14:30, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

User:Grandmaster's allegations
[edit]I have checked the three anonymous users and agree that they have been behaving inappropriately. They, however, have nothing to do with me. In fact, I suspect that the tree users are straw-men of User:Grandmaster who is trying to discredit me in order to remove an obstacle to his disruptive conduct and POV-pushing on the subjects like Caucasian Albania. In order to remove any doubt that I and the three users are the same, I will revert, where appropriate, their disruptive edits. However, it came to my attention that User:Grandmaster and User:Tabib are the same person - whose real name is Tabib Huseynov, an Azerbaijani nationalist, former student of the Central European University, and, presently - an editor of the International Crisis Group. The suspected socks started the same pages, have the same opinions and blame they same users for same alleged misconduct. Erkusukes (talk) 22:13, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Step one to understanding half of the weird backstabbing that goes on here at Wikipedia seems to involve memorising the names of both sides of the various Azeri-Armenian Arbcom cases. Both sides seem to have developed a fine artform out of making spurious allegations against perceived members of the other, usually involving sockpuppetry and over-the-top accusations of bias or CoI. More drama seems to come out of that one group than the rest put together, in my observation. :) (No need to reply, just an idle passing comment.) Orderinchaos 02:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Littleteddy
[edit][1]Having met User:Twenty Years in person, with 2 other admins also present, I can assure you that you're off the mark here. You may wish to consider a retraction given your flimsy rationale. TY is a good contributor and I do not believe him to be a sockpuppeter. Registering of disagreement should not be a rationale for accusations such as you have made. —Moondyne click! 23:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

RE: Xcbot
[edit]Hmm, well, there are multiple things that need to be addressed, I guess.
- Nope, Xcbot's not approved for any task.
- What you see in the contributions is not actually what I asked for approval for. I ran across a request from another user to convert and upload a bunch of images from a site, so I wrote a bash script to convert them and upload them using upload.py. When I was testing the previous functionality (the one I was requesting the bot flag for), I was logged in under that account, so I didn't bother changing the account I was logged into.
- I've since started uploading said images to commons (and actually giving them license tags), so I'll be moving these ones off of here soon anyway.
I guess I didn't think about what account I should be logged in as, or in fact whether or not I need a bot flag for what I was doing. It seems like there's a lot of people who run bots on normal accounts with or without flags, people who run separate bot accounts with or without flags, and a whole lot of confusion. And, though I'm uploading images not manually, I've looked at them all and set the license and stuff, so... Do you suppose I should request a bot flag over at commons? Xiong Chiamiov ::contact:: help! 21:37, 12 April 2008 (UTC) Oh, and on more thought (and reading through the commons bot page), I'm thinking that I shouldn't get flagged over there, since it states that the bot flag is for users who are trusted to upload. Since I don't have the kind of policy knowledge that I should have to consider myself "trusted", I think I'd rather keep my uploads in recent changes, so that someone can notify me when I'm screwing something up! Xiong Chiamiov ::contact:: help! 03:10, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps I wasn't clear in all of that mess I wrote above. I'm not actually uploading images here, just to commons. I was uploading them here, then realized that commons was a better choice, so that's where I'm upping things now. From what I read on the commons bot page and its talk page, a bot flag is not required for running a bot; rather it is a sign of trust, which I don't really think I should have yet. Xiong Chiamiov ::contact:: help! 03:41, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Tango's RfC
[edit]I would comment that I have strongly suggested to Tango that they do not participate in this Request per talk:Requests for comment/Tango&action=history, and have noted same at ANI. LessHeard vanU (talk) 16:24, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello
[edit]I am Les Paul Maniac, and I was wondering what is going on with the page that I have placed on Wikipedia about a local band called "Eastern Glow". I want to know what is going to happen to it.

Fair use rationale for Image:Eastern Glow Album Cover.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Eastern Glow Album Cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 03:27, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

SOCKS
[edit]Hi Nwwaew,
I was looking at your AIV report for 202.47.69.219. I plead ignorance here, as I'm new to the ipexempt stuff, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a moment to walk me through your reasoning as to how this account was a SOCKS? The report was removed by another admin, but if you can show me the evidence, I'd be happy to revisit the case. Thanks! Hiberniantears (talk) 20:19, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. One further question... how can I identify an open proxy? That's the piece I need to look at the IP you reported. I've had some experience with sockpuppets evading bans through what I assume are SOCKS, but I'm not aware of the quick way to identify an IP as a SOCKS. Hiberniantears (talk) 20:33, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm a Mac user, so Safari, please! GBT/C 20:31, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- And Firefox and IE will work for me! Looks like you're popular today. Thanks! Hiberniantears (talk) 20:35, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for the info. I agree, but Zzuuzz got there fractionally before. Blocked one year. GBT/C 20:50, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- And Firefox and IE will work for me! Looks like you're popular today. Thanks! Hiberniantears (talk) 20:35, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Good stuff. Thanks for your help! Hiberniantears (talk) 21:03, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Well...
[edit]What if I said that Jake Mikolas was a personal friend to Sammy Hagar, and/or that the best Chicago Local Band (The Modern Day Romeos) are Directly related to Jake Mikolas and Dylan Sheehan. I really want this page to stay up....if not I have successfully saved the whole page onto a word document, those admins won't keep me down. --Les Paul Maniac (talk) 20:34, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Hm....
[edit]If you go to the Modern Day Romeos website (www.moderndayromeos.com) and go to the links, you can find a link to their myspace and if u look at their friends list you can clearly see Eastern Glow's myspace. Thats about all I can do.
There is always the way of going to people who know how to hack places such as this, I wouldn't do that. But like I have stated, these guys have a huge success rate, and Wiki is going to make a page anyways, so why not have it now.
Yes I know
[edit]but what about the other stuff I said? --Les Paul Maniac (talk) 20:56, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
But Why
[edit]Is it being deleted in the first place? I can understand the whole WP: Band thing, I get that, but why can't there be a little page about a local band? --Les Paul Maniac (talk) 20:59, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
I found it!!!!!
[edit]Go to Google and type in Jake Mikolas and you will see a birthday site and it will have Micheal Zaitz from the Modern Day Romeos and Jake Mikolas from Eastern Glow right next to each other. That is a family birthday tree and it is completely true. That can save that page right? --Les Paul Maniac (talk) 22:45, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:OP verified user
[edit]Hello Nwwaew, you have been randomly selected to have the opportunity to have your name added to the verified users list. However, you must first pass this short test:
- 58.59.2.130 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
- 123.232.9.185 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
- 195.141.92.196 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
- 72.159.131.254 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)
proxy or notaproxy? Please provide details. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:06, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've got you marked at below 50%, though to be fair most of them would probably be blocked anyway. You may be able to redeem the test with some explanation for this. -- zzuuzz (talk) 22:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- When I checked (then and now), the first two both exited at 123.232.9.185. Whitytor02 (195.141.92.196) exits at 195.141.76.131. At the time 72.159.131.200 exited at 72.159.131.254, but this entry has since become inactive (probably now on another IP on the subnet), so you are right it is probably backdoored - I would have called it inconclusive. I must say I was expecting slightly better results from this test, but you pass most of the requirements for being added to the list. If I add you, you'll be careful about testing and making conclusions, right? Remember that unlike this test, you don't always have to make a conclusion. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Eastern Glow Album Cover.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Eastern Glow Album Cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:12, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

You can try to ban this ip address but it will just change in another 24-48 hours. So what's the point? And yes, if someone else happens upon that ip in my network they very well may be affected.
I certainly wouldn't trust your expertise on this subject as you seem to have banned an ip address that has already been changed and has since rendered any ban completely ineffective.
And yes you have done something wrong, b/c I have no idea who this tweety person is and if that was the reason I was banned then yes, that would be wrong. At this point, if I was tweety I would happily admit to it but I'm not. --msmariah —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.136.236.83 (talk) 00:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I did not 3RR on WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999 protest activity. SchuminWeb is demanding that Encyclopedic content be passed off as fact. --8bitJake (talk) 02:02, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
So I took out the line to the fictional movie entirely since a consensus could not be reached. The ironic thing here is that I actually was in the event and I don't think some Canadian fictional movie should be included in a historic article about an actual event. --8bitJake (talk) 02:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
No, you are wrong. Your confusing my wanting the fictional movie to be labeled as a work of fiction instead of the current existing "Dramatic" weasel word with my removal of the line. SchuminWeb violated 3RR RIGHT NOW! --8bitJake (talk) 02:12, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
It is a talk page. I was talking about the subject of the article. Is that forbidden in your interpretation of the rules of Wikipedia? --8bitJake (talk) 23:46, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
If it is a fictional movie then why the hell is it linked to from an article about an actual piece of history. That is a catch 22. You can’t claim that it represents a historical event but should also be considered a work of FICTION. I don’t think that works of fiction should be included in articles on historical events. --8bitJake (talk) 00:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey thanks for reverting my work before I hit save in the other window. It feels good to know that there are editors like you watching out doing that. Thanks for acting in good faith! --8bitJake (talk) 00:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Got your message
[edit]I think I was able to successfully get off an e-mail to you. I've had a lot of problems with my system allowing the confirmation to come through, but I was able to get it to work with my work e-mail. Please let me know on the talk page if you haven't gotten it soon. Thanks. :) PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
