January 2010

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Jyoti Basu. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. -SpacemanSpiff 17:30, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 17:36, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 31 hours for your disruption caused by edit warring and violation of the three-revert rule at Jyoti Basu. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Note: I also recommend that you take a look at WP:BRD, WP:NPOV, and WP:SYNT, before you resume editing after your block ends. I have added a welcome message below, that contains links to other relevant policies that you should be aware of. Abecedare (talk) 18:00, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Hello Administrator, I'd like to request you to revert the block of editing privilege. I understand the block was put in place on the 'three revert rule' however I did start a 'discuss' page, which had no replies. I therefore feel the block shouldn't be in place.

Regards, Notacommunist (talk) 18:10, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Addition: I'd like to resume discussion on Jyoti Basu, so that a critique of the leader can be included. With my editing privilege blocked, I cannot participate in the discussion hence I request an revert on the block.

Regards, Notacommunist (talk) 18:14, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This was a clear violation of the "three revert rule", which nowhere says that lack of response on the talk page is an acceptable reason to edit war. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:24, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Notacommunist, I'd be willing to unblock you early, if' you commit to the following:
  • Not editing the Jyoti Basu (and any related) page for the 31 hours, the duration of your original block, and
  • Not re-adding the disputed material to the article, till consensus is reached on the talk page (you can contact me or any other experienced user if you are unsure of what constitutes consensus on wikipedia)
This would allow you to discuss the matter collaboratively on the talkpage in the meantime. Also, as above, I'd recommend that you read the relevant policy pages. Let me know if you accept the proposed unblock conditions. Abecedare (talk) 18:28, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Abecedare, my reason for request of unblock is to be able to discuss the topic in Jyoti Basu's page. I'd like to reach a consensus and then add facts to the page, also I'd like to add that the edit wasn't abusive/inflammatory/disparaging. It is simply a well known fact, which has to be present on the prominent communist leader's page.
Thank you for your consideration. Notacommunist (talk) 18:33, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if that implies an acceptance of the conditions or not (I am not discussing the validity of the edit here; that's best discussed on the article talkpage). Can you be explicit if you desire to be unblocked under the proposed conditions ? Abecedare (talk) 18:41, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: After the consensus and a period of 31 hours, if the comment/critique stands only then will I add it to Jyoti Basu's page. Notacommunist (talk) 18:40, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Abecedare, apologies for not being clear. Would participating in the discussion page of Jyoti Basu be considered a violation of your first agreement point (as in any-related-page)? If it is not then I agree with the two proposed points. I'd really like to discuss the matter, and once consensus is reached (by contacting you or another experienced user). Thank you for your consideration. Notacommunist (talk) 18:50, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unblocked. You are not restricted from discussing that matter on the article talk page, as long as such discussing is non-disruptive (that is the whole point of the early unblock!). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about wikipedia content or conduct policies. Abecedare (talk) 18:57, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the early unblock. I will contact you if I have any questions. Regards, Notacommunist (talk) 19:01, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
