MfD nomination of Portal:Strawberries
Portal:Strawberries, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Strawberries and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:Strawberries during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 18:10, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
A7ed
Hey just thought I would drop you a message since you just declined it, but I nominated Solo Riq for speedy again. The claim of having "hit singles" is completly fabricated. I explained in a conversation to this user on my talk page, that the subject was not notable with reasons why (since I nominated for deletion the first time, which afterwards it was moved to draft). Yet after their AFC submission was declined they shoved the article back in to mainspace. To put it in perspective, the subject has less than 100 followers on instagram/Twitter, which should tell you that this rapper is entirely unknown. A Google search literally turns up nothing but other Wikis and primary sources. I debated on taking this user to ANI since they are clearly a SPA created to promote this rapper. - @STATicVapor: No problem. I'll leave the tag in place. North America1000 10:20, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

An update to the Haskell portal
I am hoping that my newest change to the Haskell portal satisfies the exclusion of this portal from the selection criteria for deletion; the difference is that the single navbox scheme is now augmented by snippets which further discuss the selected articles, from the point of view of the Haskell language itself.
For example, the Girard-Reynolds type system is applied to Haskell Core, which means that the Core itself implements a strongly Typed language system even though it is implemented in C. This Core has remained stable for 25 years, showing the advantage of strong typing even as Haskell itself keeps changing with every release.
Thus each selected article has a Haskell-oriented commentary in the portal, showing the impact and application of the general concepts which have been selected. I pinged BHG about this change, with no answer yet. --Ancheta Wis (talk | contribs) 21:11, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Ancheta Wis: The discussion is headed toward deletion. Although you have commented extensively, I noticed that you have not formally !voted in the discussion, and just so you know, you are allowed to do so, if you'd like. Since you want the portal retained, you may want to consider going on the record as such. North America1000 01:40, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2019).
- A request for comment concluded that creating pages in the portal namespace should be restricted to autoconfirmed users.

Hi Northamerica1000, I've noticed you've been making some changes to Portal:Poland. Could you please explain what you're trying to do on the portal's talk page? I'm not saying I'm opposed to any changes; I'd just like to understand in what direction they are going. — Kpalion(talk) 10:29, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.18
Hello Northamerica1000,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:
- Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
- Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
- Reliable Sources for NPP
Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.
- Backlog drive coming soon
Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.
- News
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- Discussions of interest
- A request for bot approval for a bot to patrol two kinds of redirects
- There has been a lot discussion about Notability of Academics
- What, if anything, would a SNG for Softball look like

Hi Northamerica1000. Non-free content like File:Karla Faye Tucker mugshot.png can only be used in the article namespace per WP:NFCC#9. There are a couple of files from Commons though which can be used in Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement/2019/24/picture if you like. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:31, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The report for phase 1 of the talk pages consultation 2019 has been published. Communities are invited to start phase 2 of the consultation on their wikis.
Problems
- File descriptions for files from Commons were not shown properly on other Wikimedia wikis for a few days. For example the image descriptions and license information were missing. This has now been fixed. [1][2]
- Some diffs show an error message when you try to see them. The developers are working on fixing it. It could be because of some edit comments. [3][4]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 May. It will be on all wikis from 23 May (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 22 May at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The content translation tool on Wikipedia can use machine translations. There is a system to stop translations where the editors do not fix machine translation mistakes. This warns or stops them if they seem to just copy what the machine translation gives them. If this system is too strict or not strict enough you can tell the language team. [5]
- The Wikidata
wbeditentity
API endpoint will remove all aliases if the request includes an empty alias. This is how it supposed to work. It has not been working this way because of a bug. This will start on 12 June. [6]

Question about WP:MISSING
Hello. I was just wondering if WP:MISSING would be interested in a missing topics list for Wrestling Title Histories (4th ed.). Thanks. 173.162.220.17 (talk) 15:27, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- I don't know. There's actually a stub version of the article as per this diff, and after this, a user redirected the page. If the book is WP:NOTABLE (e.g. per WP:BOOKCRIT), then it could theoretically qualify for a standalone article. North America1000 03:52, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

on Commons. This is a way to show what is in a picture with the help of Wikidata. It is still in development. [10] - Some tools on Toolforge may break on or after 3 June because of database changes. Maintainers should update their tools to use the new schema. [11][12]

Recent changes
- When you create a PDF from a page on the wiki this is now done by Proton. Before this we used Electron. It should look the same but work better. Both use Chromium. This is a different system from when you collect several articles into a book and make a PDF from them. [15][16]
- The Flagged Revisions extension now uses the standard OOUI icons. There will be additional minor fixes for positioning in the next deployment. [17]
- Bots and other scripts that do not set an identifiable User-Agent may find their requests strictly rate-limited until they identify themselves properly. [18]
Problems
- Please check if the Flagged Revisions configuration on your wiki is as you expect (or as it was a few weeks ago). If not, please report it. [19]

Pineapple juice
A merge to Pineapple has been proposed. Atsme Talk 📧 13:28, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Atsme: Thanks for the notification. North America1000 04:53, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- I've done a little research and found numerous food and cocktails recipes that use pineapple juice, and I also found quite a bit of science info in Science Direct, including Agriculture and biological sciences, and Food Science. Another is in the Encyclopedia of Food Sciences and Nutrition (Second Edition), 2003 (Elsevier): "Pineapple juice is a major item of commerce, as fresh or frozen, full strength, or as a concentrate. Reasonably high in carbohydrates, fermented juice is used to make vinegar. It does not make a good-quality wine but, fermented and distilled, it makes a potent, if somewhat disreputable, alcoholic spirit, available in several Pacific island countries." There's plenty for a stand-alone article but I've been a little under the weather with a head/chest cold so won't be of much help. Atsme Talk 📧 15:33, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

- An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
- An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
- An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.
- The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
- Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.
- The previously discussed unblocking of IP addresses indefinitely-blocked before 2009 was approved and has taken place.
- The 2019 talk pages consultation produced a report for Phase 1 and has entered Phase 2.

Hello, North America 1000, I noticed you added the two relisted notices in the deletion discussion. I think there is something going on there which should be carefully looked into. Those people who voted keep seem to be propagandists because they were falsely suggesting the musician to be notable without any backing evidences. I don't know when it will be closed but it has been so long already I think it's possible it will be closed now in favor of those people. If that happens, the process has failed its purpose. I tried talking to Cassiopiae about it but they seem reluctant to offer assistance. What should be done? KoopaLoopa (talk) 07:25, 12 June 2019 (UTC)
- @KoopaLoopa: I notice that you have commented at the discussion. I may not close this discussion. Ultimately, I recommend that you state your concerns placed here directly in the discussion as a comment. Also, you can consider pinging those who have contributed and ask for references to be provided in the discussion to qualify notability claims, if you'd like. As for myself: I am doing better than I was in May, however still stressed. I have a trip to Chicago in two weeks for a few days. I am trying to be more active on Wikipedia then I was in the Spring. I may even want to look into WP:RFA, but thats a long shot. Feel free to give any opinions regarding that.
- See you around

- Hi AmericanAir88: Glad to hear you're feeling good. Do what you gotta do to stress less: get some exercise, eat healthy, engage in various hobbies, meditate, get out more in nature, etc., whatever it takes. Well, my semi-break is basically just that; I've taken some time off, sometimes a couple of days in a row, but then find myself back editing, closing discussions, contributing to discussions, working on various articles and content, etc. No ideas for collaboration right now, in part because I don't want to commit to anything where I would then have to edit. If you'd like, you can help out in archiving resolved entries at WP:CLEAN. I usually archive around two to three weeks after a struck entry has been fully resolved. Enjoy Chi-town. Also, regarding RfA, I would have to look into your contribution history, talk page discussions at articles/on your talk page, content creation, non-admin closures if you've performed any of these, etc. to provide any advice, but at this time, I don't want to commit to providing RfA advice and time to research, etc., because I'm really trying to take a wiki break. Otherwise, some simple advice is that the RfA atmosphere can be a snake pit at times. North America1000 08:46, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

Should I eventually take a run at RFA?
Hello NorthA,
You have been with me since day one and a person I always looked up to on Wikipedia. I have realized the capabilities and opportunities being an admin would get. It would help me reduce backlogs, help users, and make the encyclopedia a better place. After researching the criteria and previous RFAs, I feel that a user like myself could potentially run in the future. Once my Good Article and Featured article nominations are finished, RFA could be a possibility. Do you have any advice? Do you think I am ready? Thank you for any advice.
Your Pal AA AmericanAir88(talk) 15:47, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hi AmericanAir88: For starters, what specific types of admin tasks are you interested in? Contributors at RfA often want to know a candidate's specific intentions for use of the admin toolset. Having some GA and FA content under your belt is a definite plus; some users view significant content contributions and recognized content as strongly associated with competency for adminship. Of course, this is not a requirement, but it tends to receive a favorable reception. Of note is that some of the points you make above do not require the admin bit (helping users, making Wikipedia a better place). However, these are good traits for admins to possess. Per your User contributions page, you started editing on 21 July 2017, which comes across to me as a sufficient amount of time relative to a potential RfA. Per this Pages created query, you've created 31 articles, with only
onetwo deleted, which demonstrates knowledge in content creation, page formatting and layout, sourcing, etc. Other things you have going for you is a positive demeanor and a clean block log.
- The first three questions of a new RfA have the following standard questions, which you can further consider:
- What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
- What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?

@Northamerica1000: Thank you for this. The administrative work I intend to take part in revolves around reducing the wikipedia backlogs and helping users out. I will do whatever I am asked to perform. For instance, the administrative backlog can fill up frequently and I will ensure that it stays in check. I would help with but not limited to the AFD, AIV, RFPP, and Admin Noticeboard. I would help prevent vandalism (I already patrol RC) All of my edits will be based on improving the encyclopedia.
My best contributions to wikipedia are when I am either reducing a backlog or honing in on a particular article. I would say that my best work is with Deep Space Homer. That article is my most edited and I am the process of getting it to FA. The FA right now is all support. I have failed twice with the FA on the article and have never gave up on the article. I have multiple articles that I have improved to GA and have done several GA reviews to balance my actions. I also try to focus on backlogs to reduce the workload for other users.
The only editing conflicts I think I have ever got close to was with a user called LegacyPac. The user supported mass deletion, foul language, and linear thinking. I have never lost my cool though and engaged in civil discussion. When Legacy nominated the American Airlines portal for deletion, I gave a justified comment and he even respected my attitude. LegacyPac has since been blocked for his behavior. I also defended the recent New York helicopter crash article I created. There was another instance on AFC where a user questioned two acceptances I gave. However, I had a civil conversation and we both decided that deletion would be best. I never try to make chaos, start wars, or dispute others opinions.

Hello, it appears that you were the last person to work on that portal page. Seeing as how you are an admin also, I thought, you'd know enough to be able to help me on this. I know I was supposed to be patient, but I am a bit obsessive, so just in case you happened to have the time, figured no harm in trying.
So, I wanted to correct an error there but I was too afraid of making a mistake. I tried asking for help but they recommended patience. Anyway, it seems a bot updates article lists on the page. And Darjeeling is listed as a featured article for the portal. It doesn't belong there. How can we make the bot stop adding that article there. I have explained the reasons on the talk page. I don't understand why Shiva is there either, but I don't think that'd cause any trouble. Thanks! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 13:19, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Usedtobecool: I agree that these entries are ambiguous relative to the general topic of Nepal, so I removed them from Portal:Nepal/Recognized content (diff, diff). The recognized content page is updated by User:JL-Bot, which is rather accurate, but sometimes there will be ambiguous or unrelated results generated. As such, the listings may appear again in the future when an update occurs, so feel free to keep an eye on the page if you'd like.
- At any rate, thanks very much for bringing this to my attention, which is appreciated and is cool. As such, you are not previously cool (Usedtobecool), you're cool now! North America1000 13:34, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- So very thoughtful! Brought a wide smile to my face, especially coming back to add the gif. So, I must throw it right back at you: You're the coolest admin I've had the pleasure to interact with.
- In a related note, the talk page itself has those lists as well. I looked at what u'd done and tried to get to the analogous subpage of the talk page but it doesn't exist. Not that I think it matters a lot, just thought you'd appreciate a heads-up on that. Thanks a lot for everything! Usedtobecool ✉️ ✨ 16:18, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
