FISH image

Hi Nono64, you uploaded an "international version"

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:FISHtechniqueInt.JPG

of a FISH image, which is in the public domain ONLY in the United States. In other countries, including Germany, this image is NOT in the public domain and cannot be used without further permission. Your international "new" version now uses the GNU Free Documentation license, which requires an "author" to be acknowledged. You did not enter an author to that image, could you update that in the above link ? and, do you have permission to put the modified image under GFDL ? Sorry In have to be so pedantic, but I consider using the image in my PhD thesis, so the permission must be clear. Regards, Kevin —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.53.52.132 (talk) 22:36, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Kevin. The problem begins with the fact that the American image has been uploaded in "commons", which is a documentation source for other countries. My second step for "internationalization" of the image should have therefore never happened. If you have to find some picture of FISH technique to illustrate your thesis, I think the best way to avoid any problem is to find something else elsewhere. I'm not sure, in this circumstances, that I must take credit for the picture. Better wait and see. Friendly, Nono.

Hi Nono64. Your work on the article is appreciated. However, I am concerned that too much unnecessary detail is being added. Proposed deletion of N56

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article N56, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. Road article moves

I notice you've moved a lot of road articles recently, for no apparent reason (such as A14 road -> A14 road (England), even though the naming scheme is for Great Britain))-- I dont see any notice of intention on the article, it's talk page, on either Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Roads or even Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways. Maybe it'd have been useful had you included the reasoning or result of a discussion about it in your edit summaries, that would've avoided a lot of confusion. -- ratarsed (talk) 08:11, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Where was the decision made to do this? I know Wikipedia encourages people to be WP:BOLD, but there are couple of WP:WikiProjects that already look after these articles, and I can't see any discussion on either... -- ratarsed (talk) 10:15, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Please do not move any more road articles, as you're breaking the schemes used by articles for different countries (e.g. you've turned A3 (Croatia), A7 (Croatia) and A11 (Croatia) into A3 highway (Croatia), A7 motorway (Croatia) and A11 (Croatia)). There are articles on English Wikipedia about Croatian highways, some expressways and some state routes, so this moving just adds to the confusion of the reader, not to mention that some countries use both terms "motorway" and "highway," but for different roads. If you want all the links to appear the same on disambiguation pages, use piped links. Admiral Norton (talk) 09:11, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Great Britain

At the very least, you should have at least renamed them to "Axx road (Great Britain)" as the numbering scheme crosses the boundaries of the constituent nations. Also, as mentioned above, you should have consulted with the relevant Wikiprojects before such a substantial mass-renaming. Very poor. — MapsMan [ talk | cont ] — 20:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Just wondering

Why did you bother to have separate sections for highways and motorways (like here or here)? I thought these were different terms for the same thing. Admiral Norton (talk) 18:27, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

well, the orthography is not the same. In these sections, I tend to sort items in alphabetical order. But it doesn't imply there must be a sub-title "highways" to separate the type from the motorways, especially if, in these sections, there are only two items listed like in A4 and A7. If you want to merge the two, I don't bother. Nono64 (talk) 05:57, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Roads

Hi. Why are you changing the links for British roads such as the A40 road to A40 road (Great Britain). Only a few of the roads have GB in the title; as most have nothing what's the point? Well I am currently disambiguating the small number "A roads" (A1, 2, 3, 4, ...). I don't know up to what number there will be a need to disambiguate. I guess at least the first 20 could have ambiguity problem, maybe the first 100 roads, and since I was correctiong the link of a small number road in your article, I have taken care of this link also. There seem to be a few issues with your recent edits. Those that I have picked up:

  • I think A road in UK road articles is better piped to Great Britain road numbering scheme., not a list. The list does not explain what an A road is.
It will take time for me to assert the extend of the damage. Give me a few days for I can search and correct in my history those bad linkings of my own. Nono64 (talk) 22:12, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Your new page List of A roads systems
    • is not a disambiguation page
    • needs to clarify whether it is a list of lists or a list of road numbering systems/schemes. If it's the latter, the page needs to link to the articles which describe the systems.
Well, I wasn't sure until recently, and that can explain the problems. I have begun the article as a "list of A roads" and only wanted to list roads. But I changed the title as I could see there were some sort of categories or schemes existing within the roads listed. Anyway the artcle gives the (not lists) tables of roads, but it could be better placed in a section with a different title like "see also". Nono64 (talk) 22:12, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
    • I cannot see any evidence that A roads in Australia and Argentina are numbered according to the first letter of the "state" (no Australian states begin with A)
Well, me neither. I will check that too. Put it in commentary for the moment. You didn't mention Alaska. Do you think there is enough evidence to maintain that in the article?Nono64 (talk) 22:12, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Some of your new redirect pages do not seem to be supported by the content of the target articles, for example A1 highway (Australia), A1 highway (Bosnia and Herzegovina), A1 motorway (Serbia) - I have only checked a few

You may want to discuss on a talk page, e.g. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways, before proceeding. Mhockey (talk) 18:26, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Redirecting aircraft

Hi Nono64 - thanks for all the hard work you're doing on redirects and disambiguation.

One little request though – please don't redirect redlinks about specific aircraft models back to the general page on their manufacturer as you did at Slingsby Aviation. These redirects are not useful, since the articles on manufacturers generally don't contain more than a single sentence on particular models, and more frequently (as in this case) don't contain anything at all! Additionally, it creates problems for those of us maintaining and expanding Wikipedia's aircraft content.

Would you have any problem with my disabling the Slingsby redirects so we can restore the article?

Remember – redlinks are good – they help us grow. --Rlandmann (talk) 20:16, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Undiscussed tank moves

Hi, Nono64, I noticed you've been moving Soviet tank articles to include "tank" after the name. Is there a discussion that I've missed? Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 13:46, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, if an article, or especially a set of articles has been stable for a long time, that indicates that there isn't a big consensus to change the situation, and there are probably a few editors who are watching the articles. If you make a well-stated proposal for moves and post it in a good place, you may find that it will be supported. But if you just show up and start moving around articles that others have already invested a lot of time in, you may not get a good reception. —Michael Z. 2008-11-22 17:24 z

Specifically, please don't add multiple variations of names to the leading line, and don't add links to redirects. Don't add "and also" sections. —Michael Z. 2008-11-22 18:20 z
I feel that it's not a good sign that you're still editing links to point to articles I moved back several hours ago, and haven't responded to the comments on your talk page. Also, redirects shouldn't point to anything other than other mainspace locations. T-34 in the German Wehrmacht

Hy, I noticed you put a question mark behind the T-34 in the 17th Panzer Division (Germany) article. It wasn't that rare for the Wehrmacht to use captured tanks, especially when short of own ones. Under "Surviving vehicles" there is even a bit about such a tank in the T-34 article. I fixed the link in the article to directly point to the T-34 article rather then a disambiguation page. Anyway, have fun, hope this answers your question, EA210269 (talk) 01:15, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

I wasn't sure about the point. Nono64 (talk) 10:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Redirects

Just in case I can prevent you from doing this in the future: DO NOT MAKE REDIRECTS FROM ARTICLES TO DISAMBIGUATION PAGES, such as A1 Guadeloupe (which is one of many that I have now reversed). The redirect should go TO the best article about the topic. A person reading the disambiguation page, who clicks the link to an article for more information about the topic, should not then be given a link BACK to the disambiguation page. This is completely nonsensical. Propaniac (talk) 19:38, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
