ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It is the native French name of René Laloux's short film The Snails. It should therefore redirect to The Snails' article but since The Snails doesn't have its article, it redirects to Laloux's. Nivamp (talk) 17:28, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnotes on the topic

[edit]

Hi there. I have reverted a couple of your edits because you added hatnote entries that are related to the topic at hand and are really sub-articles/topics of the main article. Hatnotes are for unrelated articles and related articles should be linked inside the article instead of the hatnote per WP:RELATED. Thank you. Canterbury Tail talk 19:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:NOTBROKEN and avoid making WP:COSMETIC edits. TylerBurden (talk) 19:30, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Norse mythology. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. TylerBurden (talk) 19:45, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! DoctorMatt (talk) 19:22, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Charles King Van Riper

[edit]

Your entry on the Charles King Van Riper article reads "In this Dutch name, the surname is Van Riper, not Riper." The traditional Dutch spelling of his name is Van Ryper" so, should the text read:

Greg Henderson (talk) 01:17, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The family name uses the Dutch van prefix which is what the hatnote refers to. What the traditional Dutch spelling of the name is doesn't matter because that's not the spelling Charles King Van Riper used. Nivamp (talk) 05:58, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Marxism lead sentence

[edit]

The only difference between 'Marxism' and 'Marxismus' is two additional letters placed at the end; adding the German word (and formating) clutters the lead sentence. Would you add the Latin equivalent, Marxismus in the lead? Neither 'Marxism is useful or necessary. Consider the reader; in the English Wikipedia, 'Marxism' is expected. 'Whilst' and (While), also differing by only two letters, is never seen. In additional to the above considerations, I also used WP:BETTER/GRAF1 from WP:MoS. If necessary, discussion at Talk:Marxism is available. — Neonorange (talk to Phil) (he, they) 21:18, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't add the Latin equivalent because Marxism is not a Latin-language idea, it's a German-language one. By telling the reader what "Marxism" is in German, it then tells the reader that this is a foreign idea and what it is called in its original language which I would say is useful information. A page you created has been nominated for deletion because it is a biography of a living person that is entirely negative in tone and contains unsourced content, according to section G10 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Do not create articles about living people that are entirely negative in tone and unsourced. Wikipedia has a policy of verifiability and any negative information we use must be reliably sourced, and our articles must be balanced. Negative, unreferenced biographies of living people, along with other attack pages, are not tolerated by Wikipedia, and users who create or repost such pages and images in violation of our biographies of living persons policy may be blocked from editing.
