Plumoyr

You may remember blocking Plumoyr (talk · contribs) back in late February for disruptively creating lots of international relations articles of the form "Greece-Moldova relations." You also blocked a sock of this user, Groubani (talk · contribs). I've opened up a new SPI about an account, Hilary T (talk · contribs) that has a lot of similarities to these two. If you're interested, the investigation is here [1].Bali ultimate (talk) 21:05, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the Barbaro hoaxer

I have found an online copy of a newspaper article that shows someone with a different name petitioned to have their name legally changed to "Count Vitus Sebastian Barbaro, Patrician of Venice" in 2004. While this is clear proof that Vitus Barbaro is a hoax, it does list the man's real name, so I'm unsure about whether it should be listed as evidence for the next time the hoax crops up. DYK update

DYK is due for an update, and it looks like none of the regular DYK admins are around. Can you do an update? I can give instructions if you need. Should be from queue 4. Shubinator (talk) 21:20, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I can do credits. You can clear the queue now; I'll work from the history. Thanks again! Shubinator (talk) 21:27, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Wow, DYK's changed quite a bit since I last updated. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 21:28, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there are a lot of holding queues now, mainly for the bot. It's nice to spot errors early too. The bot's down now, so we're back to manual updating. Shubinator (talk) 21:34, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake

Hi Nish. In the context of a possible RfA nom my recent interaction with you was brought up. I clearly see that I was in the wrong. Although I had some legitimate points to make, I went about it in a wholly inappropriate way. My heart was in the right place, I was trying to stick up for an editor who was having a difficult time, but my aggresive and mean-spirited push back was entirely inappropriate. I think editing Wikipedia should be fun, so I wanted the other editor to know that someone was pulling for them. No one should feel ganged up on. But I failed to consider how my behavior affected you and put you in a difficult and uncomfortable position that wasn't appropriate. I want to apologize. It was also bad form on my part to attack you for refactoring one of the bits I objected to (clearly you were receptive to input) and I needed to bring up my concerns in a more respectful and collegial manner. My frustrated approach wasn't helpful at all. I think dicussion with that editor would have been preferable to a block, but there is no evidence that you were acting anything but good faith. I apologize for my behavior. I will do better. Thank you for the restraint you showed in responding to my aggression and for your work on the encyclopedia. I look forward to working with you in the future and I hope your work here is a lot more fun, interesting, and pleasant than your interaction was with me. Sorry about that. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:18, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for the note. I really appreciate it. The RfA isn't going anywhere, but it's been an interesting endeavor that's provided some good feedback. I'm mostly looking forward to getting back to editing once some of the craziness wraps up. Take care. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:41, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Much like my previous question [2] (where 64.107.220.166 (talk · contribs) had previously been used as an IP sock of Qwertgb (talk · contribs)), this time I am curious as to your one year block of 64.107.220.167 (talk · contribs) (which has also been used in the past by Qwertgb. Thanks, — Kralizec! (talk) 03:39, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, it's not him. It's a banned user who's been disrupting WP for four years or so. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 01:45, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You blocked a group of accounts including this[3], it looks like there may be more sockpuppets created before and possibly after, particularly User:Earned black belt, User:Mr Hegazi, User:Not one little bit and User:Deny doing it all created a few minutes before the accounts you blocked. —Snigbrook 00:44, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to new sock accounts turning up, like FírinneTotuus (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki), what would be best? Should I file a new SPI case, or is it not necessary right now? ~ Troy (talk) 23:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

After you blocked this account the user created another sockpuppet User:Signinmans to continue editing the same articles. —Snigbrook 13:15, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, got him. It's a banned user who after four years still hasn't realized that he's not welcome here. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 16:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A few more accounts possibly created by this user (all were created around the same time, although none of the accounts have any edits): User:Kremlinerr, User:Listlistlist, User:Listlistlisto and User:Listlistlistos. —Snigbrook 17:39, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"the wrong version" thing applies to symmetric disputes. What you seem to be doing is boost Wikipedia:Anti-elitism. We have Grandmaster (talk · contribs) heaping reference on academic reference, and a bunch of patriots who keep reverting the lone encyclopedist anyway. I do suggest we try and allow for a minimal attempt at Wikipedia:Expert retention. Some "disputes" are simply "disputes". Others are scholarly references vs. WP:IDHT. Admins are expected to be able to tell one from the other, remain completely neutral in the former case, and protect the project goals in latter. --dab (𒁳) 16:37, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And what do you propose I do? Revert back to your version, fully protect the page (or keep the edit warring going by doing nothing?) and then get accused by some third party on AN/I of abusing the tools? Erm, I'd rather not get involved in that bureaucratic mess. Get the "dispute" resolved on the talk page. If you feel you're being strong-armed by Armenian nationalists, then get the opinions of some third parties to even things out. Hi, just thought I should remind you: when blocking an account as a sockpuppet, as you did with Canvasback and Mergellus, please put a sock template on their userpage and/or talk page to let others know that they are socks and why they are blocked. Wow i have discovered article about Indian culture which is very notable about cow urine consumption and importing it to the USA and civilized world would be worth mentioning this would it not? also i have found that children in india with six legs are coming to the uk for medical assistance she was thought to be a god but now its clear its just a mutation of lord rama anyways these are notable and highly interesting if not strange cultural activities please include these i shall provide sources81.151.100.127 (talk) 08:47, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore illegel immigration is a new disturbing issue british indians (mainly the sicks i mean sikhs) have set up networks of exporting the dirt poor of india to developed countries such as UK so there governments can feed them because its clear by the IMF that india has rising poverty not a rising economy heres the source http://newsx.com/story/19092 http://sify.com/news/fullstory.php?id=14717585

this is also a big problem for the aussies http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/world-news/australia-to-deport-11-indian-workers_10046422.html this is a very notable subject which has massive impacts on british citizens like my self as the dirt poor of india take the low skilled jobs which part time students need cheers 81.151.100.127 (talk) 09:08, 28 April 2009 (UTC) Heres a interesting article about british indians aborting girls in Hindustan back home so this explains the low level of indian women getting pregnant care to take a look wikivandal? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7123753.stm it states 1500 girls are being murdered in India by british indians horrific. 81.151.100.127 (talk) 09:15, 28 April 2009 (UTC) And one last one about organ trafficking and british indians as i said im not here to defame indians just here to stop wikireader and hanuman the yellow monkey cheers http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1169580 p.s yellowmonkey didnt the indians call symonds a monkey its not nice when the only people who worship primates are indians just a thought ;-)81.151.100.127 (talk) 09:15, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this like a portal?

I recently ran across Index of Wyoming-related articles and similar lists for many other US states, all created by the same editor. This article seems a bit self-referential or redundent to categories to me, but I began to wonder about portals. Does this do what a portal is supposed to do? Nyttend (talk) 13:04, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Portals are supposed to be the main hub for a specific topic. I suppose this page should actually be titled "List of Wyoming-related articles". I believe pages titled "List of xx-related articles" are acceptable. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 18:35, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser block you placed needs further investigation

See User talk:AlterEnta1. I am concerned in this case because the user was caught by a hard rangeblock you placed to catch socks of User:VivaNorthCyprus and AlterEnta1 is editing Cyprus-related articles. This could be an indication that he is a new incarnation of VivaNorthCyprus, OR it could be a coincidence, since the IP address is assigned to Cyprus, and thus editors from Cyprus may have a natural inclincation to edit articles about Cyprus. I am confused as to how to proceed, and I am writing you to see if his edits match those of the blocked user, or if they do not and if this is a coincidence. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 21:47, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found him operating on two IP ranges exclusively used in the past by VivaNorthCpyrus. His user agent is not identical, but very closely related. His knowledge of ref tags also appears to be a bit suspicious. At this point, I'd rule it  Inconclusive. I'll adjust my rangeblock to AO, ACB and monitor this user's editing in the future. User:Sjbraden

Hi, I came across a user on Yahoo! Answers claiming that he is User:Sjbraden and that he is not a sock in the way that you blocked him for. Can you give me any applicable evidence that this is not true? If not, I'd like to assume good faith until proven otherwise, and unblock him. It would certainly be disappointing if he was, in fact, a sockpuppet, but it would be more disappointing were he to be a legitimate user unfairly blocked.
