Hi. When you recently edited Chris Crary, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bucyrus (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The article Lisa Fernandes‎ has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Lisa Fernandes Deletion Review

[edit]

Hey. I know you didn't mean to do it intentionally, but don't "vote" more than once in a deletion review. WANI (talk) 02:00, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for this. I know, I wasn't intentionally voting twice, I was just letting everyone know that I would redirect the page if that was the unanimous decision. I was not trying to make it appear that there are more people on one side of an argument, if that is how it came across. I apologize.

Hello, I'm Touch Of Light. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Touch Of Light (Talk / Contributions) 23:27, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Binbinga

[edit]

Hi Neddy1234, I noticed that you created the article Binbinga, thanks for that. However as for now reliable sources (with inline citations) relating to the material you wrote are lacking. Credible sources are necessary, especially because the article is about a people. Furthermore, as I tried to provide sources to the section of Mythology I found that other sources are talking about the snake Ulanji instead of Bobbi-Bobbi. See: http://books.google.nl/books?id=pgmVDYJVqmcC&pg=PA63&dq=binbinga&hl=nl&sa=X&ei=J3CeUe3AH4SM7Qa2hYHACA&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=binbinga&f=false Maybe you could clarify your text by providing sources. Have another look at Wikipedia:Verifiability if you feel uncertain about anything. Happy editing! Crispulop (talk) 19:53, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

The Ethn. description is corrupted. "100 partial L2 speakers (1991)" is from the last edition and was supposedly the only speakers. "240 (2006 census)" is from the recent census. It makes no sense to include both, since the first means that the second is false. — kwami (talk) 07:26, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnologue is saying that 100 partial or second language speakers exist in addition to the 240 first language users. Please read the Ethnologue entry carefully before reverting my edit as all information was correct.

Replaceable fair use File:Cherokee Keyboard.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cherokee Keyboard.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:03, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Minority languages in Italy

[edit]

Hi. I read the Law number 482 of 15 December 1999 (I'm Italian) and it clearly says that those languages are just protected by law (it's different from recognized). The same law states that Italian is the official language. The only languages recognized and co-official with Italian in particular regions and territories are French, German, Ladin and Slovene whose recognition is explained by Italian constitution and bilateral treaties (and this is already explained in the note a of the infobox).--EnStat (talk) 10:15, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Never Be the Same

[edit]

If it were true, the song would have been in her chart history by now. I think Billboard made an error. I find it strange Never Be the Same made it to #8 on the R&B Charts with no radio support because Mauboy isn't signed to a US label and she never promoted the song in the US. —Lightsout (talk) 00:27, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, since that existing source says it charted you can add it back. If it really is true, then good on her for cracking the US market. —Lightsout (talk) 01:10, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Umbrella (song)

[edit]

Hi. I notice that you've been editing here since 2010, having racked up close to 1,000 edits in your time here. A belated WELCOME! I came across this material you added to the Umbrella (song) article, and removed it for the following reasons:

  • Wikipedia cannot accept uncited synthesis, or material which is supported only by primary sources, as this violates Wikipedia's policies on Verifiability, No Original Research, and synthesis. Wikipedia requires that all material added to articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable sources explicitly cited in the text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. With regard to material about the content of narrative works that is evaluative, analytical or interpretive, the source must be a secondary source, and the analysis must be derived from that source. Editors cannot add their own analyses to articles, because that is original research, nor can editors merely cite the work in question for anything other than descriptions of its content or credits, because that is synthesis, which is a form of original research.
  • In a similar vein, editors should not add their own opinions to articles, as you did when you remarked that elements of the video were "beautiful", "sexy" or "effective".

Other problems with this material that did not go directly to its removal, but which bear mention for future reference to writing good articles include the following:

  • Material in Wikipedia articles must be written in a formal tone, and therefore should be written in the third person, and not in the second person. This means that the text should not address the reader info "In this captures 'you can see Rihanna's..."
  • Material in Wikipedia articles needs to be written in coherent sentences, with proper grammar. "In this captures..." and "In general video represents.." are not proper grammar, and the passages "In some scenes using visual effects." and "Especially B/W scene when Rihanna fully nude (only with silver paint) into a silver pyramid (tetrahedron)." are not complete sentences. Sentences must have a subject and a predicate.
  • Only the first word and proper nouns should be capitalized in section headings, as indicated by WP:SECTIONHEAD. It is also not a good idea to explicitly indicate the length of a section in its heading with comments like "(Brief)", since it is not the convention on Wikipedia, unnecessary, given that the reader can already gauge a section's length at a glance, and the length of a section may change as others edit it.
  • Terms should not formatted in boldface with a legitimate reason, such as the presentation of the article's name in the Lead section, the name of cast members in a production's cast list, etc.

I hope you don't mind my discussing this with you, since my only intent is to collaborate with you so we can write better and better articles, much as others communicated with me when my writing needed improvement. If you ever have any other questions or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. Sorry for the late reply. Are you planning on working on the Can I Get a Moment? article? I was going to do it myself but I'm so busy this week so I'm not. need ID

[edit]

Since you're working on Australian lang atricles, Bowern lists a Urratjingu a.k.a. Urratyingu language (Paman). Not listed in AIATSIS, & Bowern hasn't responded w an ID. Would be helpful if you could find anything. (Not that it would be easy.) — kwami (talk) 23:42, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if it were an alt name of s.t. else. But per your comments it looks as though we need a new branch of PN? Bowern says it's a Paman lang, but Muruwari is far from Paman territory.
Merry Xmas! — kwami (talk) 19:24, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. If you have enough for a stub for the language, we can at least create that. — kwami (talk) 19:38, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I found a news release that the Urratyingu now live among the Guugu Warra, Gugu Yimithirr, Lamalama, & Yitthuwarra. All a long way from Muruwari. — kwami (talk) 21:11, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate names for Ngaanyatjarra

[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering why you've put 'Nyanganyatjara' as an alternate name for Ngaanyatjarra? Surely it is (by definition) not an alternate name for Ngaanyatjarra? Dougg (talk) 04:57, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's from ethnologue. --User:Neddy1234

Aha, thanks! FYI, the name 'Ngaanyatjarra' is based on that variety having the proximal demonstrative ngaanya; varieties that use nyanganya for the same demonstrative can be referred to as 'Nyanganyatjara', and so are by definition distinct varieties from Ngaanyatjatjarra. Aari language

[edit]

Thanks for your edits on the Aari language, which are a huge improvement! But you write that until 2009 Ethnologue treated Aari as a dialect of Gayil. It is correct that Ethnologue lumped the two languages together, but not under the name Gayil. Aari has been the name for both languages, and only from the 2009 edition was Gayil recognized as a separate language. I confirmed this again by looking at a downloaded Ethnologue report for Ethiopia from May 2007, where Gayil is listed as a dialect under the language name Aari. I suggest that you reword the passage accordingly. Thanks again for your good work! Landroving Linguist (talk) 18:49, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Last three Speakers"

[edit]

It states that you took the picture of the last three speakers of Marringarr, if so couldnt you provide their names and a date for when the photo was taken. It is not good practice to depersonalize indigenous people by referring to them as "informants" and "speakers" when in fact they are persons with names. Now, it may be that they have requested not to have their names included, in which case that would be a good thing to note, or at least find another wording. User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 22:46, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

the photo was taken in Australia back in 2007; they are the last three speakers of the Magati Ke dialect and I met with them and we chatted and provided some great info about their lives and their native languages. They are the last three speakers, fully human, however they have requested not to be named. --User:Neddy1234

Hello. You are currently adding pictures to articles, many of them very good and relevant. In a few cases, there is no correlation between the pictures you add and the sections where you add them. For Italian, you add a picture of a sign in Italian village to the section talking about Italian in the US, for Belarussian you add a picture added already in 2009 (of a sign presumably even older) to the section dealing with the 2010s. Most of your added pictures are relevant, but please consider if and where to add them.Jeppiz (talk) 23:36, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, the first message I left was far too strongly worded. By unfortunate coincidence, I happened to see just the two cases I disagreed with and got the wrong impression. I then saw most of your additions are very helpful, so please excuse my inappropriate tone. I still think the two cases I mentioned were less than ideal, but most of the pics you've added seem very helpful. Thanks! Jeppiz (talk) 23:43, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem that Swathmore is not a reliable ref. They don't give their refs, and contradict people who know the language. I tried cleaning up your additions, but in the end there was little left. Dear Neddy you sound helpful! Perhaps you could put one thing right for me! It is too complex. The file on Malta shows Sicily to be marked out as if it were the island of Malta. Thanks Osborne, I'd be happy to help! which map are you referring to here? is it https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Template:Distribution_of_languages_in_the_world perhaps? Or is the map on the wikipedia entry for the country Malta? Neddy1234 (talk) 18:40, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. no it's not the "...template:Distribution..." - it is the map on the Wikipedia entry of the country Malta. In fact the map shows the Mediterranean with "Malta" in a ring, this is wrong. [edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Exoticpriyanka.ogg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. "Native name" of Alaska

[edit]

I'm afraid I have reverted your edit adding the Aleut name to the lead of the article. The reason is basically WP:UNDUE. Alaska is home to dozens of native tribes and languages. Each of them has their own name. If we listed them all that would be absurd. If we pick just one for the lead it is as though we are saying "this is the native name for Alaska" when in fact it is one of many. So, while it makes perfect sense to discuss this in the entymology section of the article, it seems to lend undue to weight to one language over the others to have it right in the lead section. Cherokee Wikipedia chr:

Thank you for this edit to Pearl River, Mississippi. As you know, "the US Census should be the primary source of demographic data", per WP:USCITIES. If you look at the most recent census data, you will see that 64.8 percent of the population of Pearl River CDP "speak only English" at home, and 35.2 percent speak another language which is not listed. Thus, your edit that "in 2000, 54.64% of the population spoke Choctaw at home, and 45.36% spoke English" is not accurate. I will revert your edit but wanted to leave you this message first. Hello Neddy, I see from your user page you have a native understanding of Cherokee. That's awesome! I recently watched this documentary on the subject, and I have become more interested in the status of Cherokee language revitalization efforts. And I saw that you're the creator of the article Status of the Cherokee language. Thank you for your contributions here to the encyclopedia.

I'm contacting you because I've noticed some things that I thought could be sub-standard in with regard to the quality of the information presented in that article. I have hesitated to bring this to your attention, because I bet it is a topic that is near and dear to your heart. Anyhow, I have posted on the talk page a few times about some of the things I've thought.

Anyhow, thank you again for your work here. I'd like to see the language (and Wikipedia) thrive. Best wishes. Biosthmors (talk) pls notify me (i.e. {{U}}) while signing a reply, thx 22:46, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited United States House of Representatives elections in New Mexico, 2018, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page PAC (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Cherokee language

[edit]

Hello Neddy, I thought because of your knowledge of Cherokee you might be interested to know that some newer articles on English Wikipedia exist relating to the Cherokee language (Cherokee Immersion School and New Kituwah Academy). Also there have been edits to the Cherokee Wikipedia itself. Please feel free to collaborate if you feel so inclined! You can see discussion at w:chr:ᏫᎩᏇᏗᏯ:ᎾᎥ ᏄᎾᏓᎸ ᎾᎿᎢ or look at w:chr:User:Biosthmors to see some things I've struggled with (for example, I've wondered about the word for plants). Best wishes. Also, for what it's worth, I noticed that you added content to the Cherokee Nation page that is not relevant to the Cherokee Nation. Much of the content concerns other organizations. Do you think you'd be able to clean up that section by chance, whenever you get a chance? Thanks. The article Bella Enahoro has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable actor, no reliable sources. WP:BEFORE shows no evidence of substantial coverage to help improve article

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Osiyo! My name is Daniel and I’m the director of Wikitongues, which helps people get started with mother-tongue documentation and revitalization. We also maintain a User Group and have organized a roundtable chat about language diversity as part of Maryana Iskander’s listening tour. I would be honored if you or someone whom you'd recommend from Cherokee Wikipedia could join us. If you’re free this Wednesday 11/10 @ 10 am ET, I can add you to the calendar invite -- just reply to this message with your email. Alternatively, if you can't make it or you have questions/comments for Maryana, reply with them here and I'll pass them along. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing hoaxes, such as File:Creekstopsign.png, is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. If you would like to make test edits, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
