- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, Doug Weller talk 14:22, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, NastyaklymENKO. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Renew Democracy Initiative, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Doug Weller talk 14:22, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
Hello NastyaklymENKO,
I had to revert some of your edits made to members of the Renew Democracy Initiative (RDI) advisory board. In addition to what Doug Weller wrote in their comment above, such material cannot be added to any article without a proper citation. For biographies in particular, it cannot even be left in to wait for someone to add such a citation later (see WP:BURDEN for details about that rule).
As for potential sources for this information, [1] does mention those people having served in those positions as of March 2021. The Initiative's website has been offline since then, so I cannot verify that they're still members of that board (for all I know, RDI may no longer exist).
If a reliable source can be located -- and I invite you to help with that, just comment below! --, the question remains where to place that information in the articles. Putting it in the WP:LEDE section seems undue, and may once again point to neutrality issues. I'd be happy to discuss that question here, but I would strongly suggest that you avoid editing articles related to that topic, for the reasons given by Doug Weller. - @Renerpho It's online.[2] Doug Weller talk 14:55, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: Ah, thank you! It looks like they've since changed the url to their team (from /our-leadership to /our-team). The current version is archived at [3]. I think this list still includes all the names whose biographies this had been added to; so far, so good. I am not against having this in their articles, but the placement in the lede section is not ideal. I'll see if I can find a better home for it. Renerpho (talk) 15:02, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- @NastyaklymENKO: I've re-added it to Max Boot and Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.[4] Those two articles already had dedicated sections about that kind of activity, making it fairly simple.
- For the other people, you could make WP:Edit requests on their respective talk pages, meaning you can suggest an edit, and someone may come along, review your suggestion, and decide if the edit should be implemented. Renerpho (talk) 15:26, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
