About your images

[edit]

Hi Myisuwikiaccount, my name is Howicus. I noticed that to contest the deletion of your photos you linked to this page, which says "There is no charge for images that are used on the web to promote Indiana State and its programs, both internally and externally." Unfortunately, that's not free enough for Wikipedia. The image would have to be released under a license that lets anyone reuse the image for any purpose, including commercial purposes. "No charge to use" does not mean "free to use", especially how Wikipedia defines it. More details are at Wikipedia's image use policy page. Hope this helps! Howicus (Did I mess up?) 18:40, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you need a statement from the owner? Myisuwikiaccount (talk) 18:42, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the owner would need to send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org Howicus (Did I mess up?) 06:20, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image descriptions

[edit]

Can you please add more information about the images. A description of each really is needed otherwise they are just anonymous photos to every other editor other than you. NtheP (talk) 15:44, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How and where do I add information about the photos? I took the photos while on campus at the specified dates on the image information. The name of the file details what it is. Please be patient as I am new to this. Thanks.

Myisuwikiaccount (talk) 22:44, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's two ways you can add the information. On is just to edit the file and add the text e.g. "This photo is a picture of whatever taken by me on some date" or you can do the same (and this is the route I would suggest you take) use a template that exists specifically for this purpose. This template is called {{information}} and in a few lines it helps you provide a full explanation of the photo, who took it, when etc.
{{Information
| description =
| source =
| date =
| author =
}}
Description I hope is self explanatory. You can put as much as you want, but remember you're dealing with a global audience so fuller is better. For example Indiana State University not ISU as ISU is going to mean diddly squat to most people.
Source. Where did you get the image from. If it's your's then put Own work , if it's off a website the URL of the website, if it's a scan out of a book, the name of the book.
Date. Not mandatory but the date the image was created (not uploaded) just helps to set context if you know it
Author. Your name, wiki user name will do if it's your photo. If it belongs to someone else then the name of the person who it belongs to or the institution so if this was an image off the university, the author would be Indiana State University.
You worked out the licence for images you take, if you ever want to upload something that belongs to someone else and you want a hand either leave a message on my talk page or start a new section at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions but I see you've already been given guidance on an example of this. The rules about licences for images are about the hardest thing to pick up so nobody is going to mind you asking questions, better that then all the images being deleted. NtheP (talk) 22:25, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:ISU Landini front2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ISU Landini front2.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:05, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for some of your uploads

[edit]

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Your submission at Articles for creation: School of Music of Indiana State University.

Greetings... My submission was denied due to references... I reviewed the "help" regarding this and included Wikipedia's own information as reference to the "subject" but I really need help in understanding what else is required. I have referenced "independent" resources and listed the notable alumni and graduates that have attended the school of music and became some of the world's greatest contributors to music. I would assume that would be enough which is the ultimate reason such educational institutions exist. Please review and help. Thank you.
