Hi nevermind that, I was going to remove it but others had commented sorry. Lakers 18:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well I wouldn't say it matters, Tahn is very popular amongst Armenians also, not just Turks. If you can cite reliable sources claiming this since Tahn is considered a daily drink among Armenians so it has a connection. If you cannot than you should add back Syria and Armenia since that is not fair. Many articles have numerous Templates in accordance to the origins, popularity etc. My research has only shown ancient inhabitance of Turkey drinking this which may include Armenians, Greeks, Romans and many other civilizations that have existed in Anatolia no mention of Turkey. I will contact you further if I have any problems with edits in certain articles that I have seen, as for the comments on the coordinator we should make a vote for the lead coordinator, since you can be blocked for gaming just a tip admins wont hesitate to take action, cheers. Template

[edit]

Hi Makalp, Merhaba and welcome to our ranks! I'd like to keep the template in my user page as it is to be used in our small WikiProject and not really worth moving to the template space. But, if you insist, I will move it myself after some other additions and modifications. As for the districts-related and the like templates, it is quite early for our WikiProject. This is because many major cities have no articles yet and most have no maps, etc. Thanks for your offer to help man, I will get back to you when the time is right. —Anas talk? 12:03, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nakhichevan

[edit]

Makalp, please stop reverting the establishment information on the Nakhichevan infobox. The reason why I removed certain pieces of information from the infobox is because it really only states the times when foreign powers dominated the area. Eventually, we would have to bring in a note about the region's Armenian history and that would only lead to an Armenian-Azeri dispute. That's why I just want to leave the establishment dates to Nakhichevan's modern history only. Kindest regards, Aivazovsky 22:24, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You want to give an Armenian shape to the history. This can be accepted a strong nationalist approach. Keep these valuable info in Nakhichevan.Regards.Must.T C 08:27, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. checkuser

[edit]

Mustafa, I don't know about Antivandalism, but I think Bohater and Ozgurgerilla are different people. They have quite different styles. Also claiming to have founded the WP: Kurdistan does not mean much, they can all claim the same (initiating/proposing vs. actually creating the project). I think you should remove one of Bohater or Ozgurgerilla there. I don't know procedures, so I cannot help there. I think you should withdraw for now, the evidence is weak/non-existent. If you really think two of those three are the same, you should find something else to support your case. denizTC 15:34, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now I checked the contributions of Antivandalism. My personal opinion is Bohater might be Antivandalism. But even if that's the case, Antivandalism is not used for, say, averting 3RR. People should be able to have more than one Wikipedia accounts, as long as they don't abuse them. denizTC 15:40, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have provided no conclusive evidence to compare edit behavior of Ozgurgerilla. This should be "obvious" evidence. Antivandalism (talk · contribs) and Bohater (talk · contribs) relationship is rather obvious (though you haven't cited that). You mind actually participating in the Merger discussion instead of simply removing it? Thanks. The Behnam 20:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged merge and put a section for discussion on the talk page. That is the way it is supposed to be done. You, on the other hand, blindly removed it without discussion, so you are in the wrong here. Also, I don't know what you mean by 'take back Salad Shirazi'. Anyway, keep it on the appropriate talk page please. Thanks. The Behnam 20:59, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Take your words back. My eyes is open as enough as to see what happen. You have no good faith in these edits. You tagged, I removed. That is all. Another question.??Must.T C 21:11, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What, you guys are quarrelling over salad now? A bre, tin kánate saláta, çocuklar. ("You made a salad of it" = "you messed up big time", Greek idiom). Want to also merge Greek salad? (Although that one is actually slightly different, it's not as finely chopped most of the time.) - I'll send a friend your way who has a lot of experience with middle-eastern cuisine articles. Fut.Perf. 21:23, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let's move this discussion to Talk:Choban salad, please, where it belongs. The merge tag should not be removed; it is an invitation to discuss the issue, not a decision of any kind. --Macrakis 22:00, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why you're objecting to the merge tag which I restored (it wasn't originally "my" merge tag). As I say above, a merge tag is an invitation to discuss the issue, not a decision. --Macrakis 15:06, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map

[edit]

Makalp, can you please revert your edits to each of the governorates of Syria. The maps they had before are much better. This is a generic map, and is supposed to be used in articles like Syria and governorates of Syria only. Thank you! —Anas talk? 10:25, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I reverted them. Thanks for your help anyway. :-) —Anas talk? 10:28, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If we didn't have highlighted maps we would've used the template, but the separate maps are more appropriate. The maps used before are highlighted too, and are better. Using the template will leave the other (better) maps redundant. Thanks, Anas talk? 10:32, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, not bad. I reverted. I really think this is unnecessary, if we want to use it in the infoboxes, we will have to change the size. When we change the size, it will look cluttered and it wouldn't look suitable in the governorate and the Syria articles (with a samll size). This means that the infoboxes will be better but the articles will not, meanwhile in the current situation both are pretty good. So, let's just keep things as is and avoid this confusion. Sorry, I thank you for your efforts but I hope you understand. :-) —Anas talk? 13:25, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for understanding man. :-) —Anas talk? 13:32, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

script-need help

[edit]

User:Makalp Hello Ottoman, I am trying to use a scriptfunction;[[:]]: (Example: {{#replace:Žmržlina|ž|z}} returns Žmrzlina.)It doesnt work. Is it something wrong, are you familiar with this function? Thanks in advance.

String functions (such as replace) in C is ASCII based. The database is using extended code for sure. I'm not so sure if the programing libraries in this system are using extended code. 2me it feels like the source of the problem is not how you write your syntax but .... There may be ways to short circuit this, but I do not advise as it will get highly complex (Capitalization is a problem) If you look at the issues that I face in extended characters, instead of dealing them with algorithms, I choose to create a simple table and look at the replacement in that table. I will try to help if you specify the problem thanks. --OttomanReference 16:39, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying you will overload a system function? I mean the PAGENAME. Even if we solved the replacement issues, you can not overload a system function. Assuming this is what it means when you say: then we could use {{PAGENAME}} in the article where we need"--OttomanReference 17:28, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I check the manual. These (string) functions are currently not installed at the Wikimedia projects. Sorry you need to use #switch and generate a replacement table. That is what I have been using... Sorry for the bad news. OttomanReference 17:54, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me explain; There are plantifull of Redlinks in Turkey related articles-which wait to be created.I made a template {{NewarticleTR}}, create a category under WPTR category. simply tagging any redlink with this template it will be categorised automatically under[ [:Category:Turkey_related_needed_articles]](is a sub category of Category:WikiProject_Turkey.Can you offer me an alternative way; forexampla to collect these redlinks in a List by a bot or something else?

Regards.Must.T C 12:15, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • I have two suggestions. Once is simply do a simple stub for any article you create (a couple of sentences would be fine - e.g. "Aydin Bey is a well known holiday resort in Turkey. Located on the coast, it is popular with families and larger groups. 100000 tourists a year visit on average." - then add appropriate stub categories. The other one is to put the list of redlinks on the Turkey Wikiproject so people can see them and create from there. Hope this helps.exolon 12:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re Speedy Del

[edit]

Hi, I removed the tag as the article is a valid stub now. The edit summary of its creation read "test", that is why I asserted it will not be extended. Apologies if I applied the tag too soon. tomst | talk 13:59, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest to keep a list of important or requested red-link topics on the turkish project page. If you create empty articles, the red-link is gone and it is not obvious, that the article needs work. Additionally there is a high chance that the article will be marked for deletion as it does not contain any information other than a category. If you want to get rid of red-links, try to write a valid stub as you did in İncirburnu, Gökçeada. I hope that helps. tomst | talk 16:26, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soonuc: temelde guzel bence template'imiz. Gerisini hallederiz.--Z y 20:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

mesela ana basligi non-alcoholic beverages yapsak altina dizsek ayrandi, kahveydi vs. Bakan gorsun direk orada Turk kahvesini.

Ne diyorsunuz?--Z y 14:12, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Şu an şablon çok daha güzel. Önerilerim şunlar:
Çoğul eklerinden önce tırnak işaretlerine gerek yok. Yani Turkish mezes and salads diyebiliriz.
Turkish pastry yerine Turkish pastries kullanabiliriz.
Son satırda sanırım instruments intruments olarak yazılmış, onu değiştirebiliriz.
Aklıma gelen öneriler bunlar. Ama şu ana kadarki çalışma çok iyi. Elinize sağlık. Chapultepec 14:25, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Harika olmuş, yalnız gördüğüm bir sorun var. Pilav bölümünü açtığımda böreklerle ilgili detaylar geliyor. Onun dışında çok iyi. Teşekkürler. Chapultepec 18:06, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Chapultepec 18:58, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chapultepec 07:50, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Oncelikle cok guzel oluyor. Simdi onerilerim.

Bence Turkish eating habits ile baslamayalim. Restoranlari, beverages ile birlikte sona atalim derim. Milk based products ile start aliriz-instruments vs. Sonra "Turkish dishes" baslar.

Mesela mezelerimizi yazalim bol bol, niye sadece 3 tanesini yazdik? Illa article mi yazmak gerek oyle yazinca? Corbaları kebabları nasıl yazmissak onlari da yazalim bence, kotu durmamis. Vegetable dish icin de ayni sey gecerli. Dolmalarda direk doldurdugumuz seyleri yazalim bence.

Yani pilav-pasta section acabiliriz? Boreklerin arkasina pilav & manti koyarsak kaybolacak.

Ha alt basliklara tiklanirsa direk onun sayfasi gelecek?

First level would include clickable names of sub-templates in one row. When we click one of them, this sub-template contents will appear in the second row. How??

Thanks in advance.Regards.Must.T C 17:00, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You should not use the nav templates. Their structure forces you do nesting structure you do not want. You can not open or close first levels or second levels coordinately (assuming tis is what you were asking) as Level variables will be mixing. You need to create the divisions by hand with the order you want; use the <div> with direct link to scripts. I have seen you using it. But I have a question? Did you consider usability. It feels to much click to reach couple links. I feel that it would be better if you organize this information in a single table with images and colors. Or create different templates and link the templates with a wikilink, you already have done creating the templates, put links to other templates inside these individual templates. The way you want to do (hiding behind navigation frames) will take a lot of time, It may not even be useful at the end. Thanks --OttomanReference 17:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Giresun Castle

[edit]

Hi Makalp, just wanted to let you know that I have tagged the article Giresun Castle for deletion because it is empty (per CSD A1). This is probably due to an error on your side: the template {{WPTR}} should be added on the talk page of the article (even if the article does not exist), not on the article itself. Users may get blocked for this purpose as a result but that isn't the point of arbitration. The point of arbitration is to resolve a dispute. This approach would bring better results from arbcom both for the accuser and the accused. -- Cat chi? 12:17, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archivebox

[edit]

Hi Mustafa; I see you included the archivebox in all your talk archives. Just a suggestion: it's much more convenient to define it as a template in your userspace and transclude (i.e. not substitute it) to the main talk and archives. See User:Duja/Archivebox and Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Duja/Archivebox. Regards, Duja 11:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Postcards, especially new ones, are copyrighted in general. Note that {{PD-art-life-70}} requires 70 years from the author's death rather than the date of their issuing; that is probably not the case even for 1900-1920 postcards. The best place to ask similar questions is WP:MCQ. I'll try to fix your archives. Duja 11:59, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Makalp, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. Baba Hamparsum

[edit]

Hamparsum Limonciyan never spelled his name in the Latin alphabet. His name would have been written in Arabic script and in Armenian script. Therefore any Latin transcription is just that. On the other hand, he is an important figure for Turkish music, his work and notation still being referred to today, so Turkish transcription rather than English transcription seems natural to me. But whatever the choice, since it is not the original and since redirects work well, I would not care either way. Look for him as Hamparsum, or Baba Hamparsum in google for Turkish sources. History of Anatolia

[edit]

Hey bud, not trying to engage in a RV war, but isn't it important to include some mention of the Armenian Genocide in the history of Anatolia, as long as there is a section about the Ottoman Empire?

It seems particularly odd to note Jewish migration from Spain during the Reconquista, while omitting the awkward disappearance of the ancient inhabitants of the region. I'd rather you fixed it, I don't like disagreeing with people! Maybe you should add a section about the Armenians, if you insist on removing mention of them from the Ottoman section. :o)

Dear Hey bud,, this is the first time that we are contacting formally.
Rv war.; I have no time to go to disputable articles which are out of the scope of WPTR. Just revert obvious vandalisms, revert some nationalist POV materials, revert some material which added according to a political agenda.
You was added the one sentence two times to that article just to add so called- Armenian Genocide nothing else. You are not a regular editor in that article. And so; I am free to delete this POV sentence.
I can not see any relation between the history of Spain and Anatolia, if you see add your sentence there.
I can add some articles/templates/cats by the following my agenda, nothing else. I dont want to loss time in talk pages, my messages is short and in edit summary generally.I understand your motivation about Armenians, why you dont add a section to that article like as "Armenians in Turkey today" approximately 5% of population of Armenia in Turkey now.(Are Those Armenians masochist?).
Happy editing to you in a non-contraversial manner.Must.T C 15:13, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I was just being friendly. All I did was call you buddy, send you a smiley emoticon, and ask if we could work together. You came back with an insulting political diatribe. If you feel ashamed of your initial reaction, that probably means you're a good person. Please don't edit my comments; that distorts my words.DBaba 15:45, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah when I look again, it's a bit crazy to have no mention of The Crusades in a History of Anatolia, as well! That period also had a tiny bit of relevance for humanity! That entry is painfully lousy, I'm almost motivated to attack it more comprehensively.DBaba 14:49, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bedreddin'e feci merak sardın bakıyorum Mustafa:) I am sure someone translated into English the titles of his works in an academic source. I will have a look now, although I am not sure that they give much of a clue on the historical personality, and still less on the posthumous legends, especially the 20th century ones. I always found it curious that he was very roughly contemporaneous to other movements, labelled as hereticisms, such as the Cathars in France and Bogomils in the Balkans. Yerleşik hukuk düzeni açısından "Katli vacip malı haram!" olması da ilginç. I. Mehmed'in destanını yazan olmadı henüz, halbuki en önemli hükümdarlardan biri :) I will check if there are sources of academia in English on him.

Sorry for re-adding Meryamana, I did't do that on purpose, I don't even know what it is. I can't make edits in that page, or rather, I'm making edits but then I can't see them. As for your points #2 and #3, this is a POV that neither scholars nor wikipedians follow to the present moment. If we start using anachronistic names with no caution then nothing will ever make sense. No offence but I'm hoping to have the article listed under Wikipedia:Release_Version_Nominations, so a minimum amount of neutrality and relevancy needs to be maintained. I found this New York Times article interesting, and was wondering if you would find it to be prejudiced or unfair. It seems like a fairly balanced article to me as far as I can tell, although in the photo montage it does state that "The Turkish education system teaches secularism and nationalism." Such Turkish staples as kebabs, stuffed vine leaves and stuffed vegetables were Byzantine staples. Börek, halva and baklava are well-attested in Byzantine and classical texts. The arts of baking and viniculture were also unknown to the Turks when they arrived in Anatolia and the latter remained a Christian prerogative at least as late as the sixteenth century. The food of the ordinary people of Byzantium was very similar to that of today's Anatolian peasantry -bread, beans, lentils, olives and olive oil, vegetables fruit and dairy products.

Blocked user

[edit]

Hello Makalp, I'd like to have few words if you don't mind. Lets start with Flavious, he was blocked because he disregarded wiki rules and still does. According to an admin

"I can confirm that virtually everything new that turns up on Turkey-related pages these days is Flavius. All 151.37.*.* - 151.44.*.* IPs definitely are, and any new account created a few days ago as ripened sleeper accounts that show the same editing behaviour can confidently be treated as him too. Fut.Perf. ☼ "

So you see when an IP address that starts with 151.44. starts to edit Turkish related articles and then Whitealp continues editing in the same manner it leaves no doubt as to who the real person behind the IP and the new user is[21].

Next I'd like to talk about couple of wiki rules

WP:3RR - There are other instances where multiple reverts may not constitute a breach of this policy:

  • reverts to undo actions performed by banned users or currently blocked users evading their block.

When reverting him 3RR doesn't apply.

WP:BAN - Wikipedians are not permitted to post or edit material at the direction of a banned user, an activity sometimes called "proxying," unless they are able to confirm that the changes are verifiable and have independent reasons for making them.

Reporting users or editing articles on his behalf is not permitted.

Makalp please don't follow Flavious's route on disregarding wiki rules. You are a great contributer to Turkish related articles and it would be a shame to see you blocked for getting involved with a banned user. VartanM 19:52, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful with your words and tone(smelling as threat). What is the meaning; "..is using user:Makalp as a meatpuppet", did you take some help to decide on this? Please dont occupy my talk with these tones. How you decide these users are socks, before FPaS's evidences.Reply in related pages.

See you in positive contributions. Must.T C 20:17, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Ottoman warrior mentality of the Anatolian Greeks

[edit]

I request your help to face a disgusting and offensive behaviour against we Turks from a nationalist Greek named Cplakidas in the article Greco-Italian War. He denies the evidence of scholars like the British Mack Smith (with precise book & page references) about the fact that the Greek army was able to stop temporarily the Italian army in Epirus because the soldiers were nearly one third (or more) Anatolian Greeks (moved to Greece after the 1922 exchange of populations) who had the warrior mentality of Ottomans. That is the reason the Greeks fought bravely and not like "a bit coward" Balkan Greeks, as they have always done. And this is confirmed indirectly by the same Churchill who compared the Greek resistance in Epirus to the one of our glorious soldiers in the Dardanelles during WWI. The same bravery of the soldiers of beloved Ataturk, wrote Churchill. But the nationalist Cplakidas erases all this references and call racist the reference to Smith & Churchill. I believe Cplakidas is the racist when denies that our courage was transmitted to the Anatolian Greeks after centuries of our domination and influence on them. Read the related talkpage to see how he denies even the declarations of the Italian generals about their mistake in evaluating the strength and resolution to fight of the "renowned weak" and corrupt Greek army.Eteturk —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.215.160.97 (talk) 16:16, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think this is a dummy argument. What is the bravery? What is the performance criteria for bravery? I saw Cplakidas' edits, seems are suitable. There there is one reality that 25% of the people was Anatolian origin. There can be many explanations about their behaviour -other than their roots-in the battles; It is very normal that immigrants in a country may fight agresively-braverily since they know what is the war and what is the occupation of homeland.
Please focus on the current events instead of nostalgic-romantic concepts, and please take a User name for your future contributions.

Thanks - what would you suppose the caption be changed to? I find it incredible that your wife knows this woman! Could you ask your wife whether she has any more information on this woman, and also that should she ever see this woman again to thank her for allowing me to take a photo of her? Also, based on the photo itself, do you think it could be nominated for a FP if it had the suitable caption etc? Thanks loads, Kitkatcrazy 16:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I don't know who I should speak to about this important matter. The Golan article has been taking over by Israelis and they have removed everything mentioning an occupation and changed it to "disputed" They have also removed the "the neutrality of this article is disputed" that was on top of the article while it is written in a completely pro-Israeli way. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:50, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. I was wondering if you'd be interested in setting up Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey), based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Now it's not a contest in itself, it's designed to motivate people to inspire others to improve content and build something which demonstrates the hard work going into the country which is visible. The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Eventually a Turkish National Contest could be created to fuel it, like Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon, in which contestants can choose to keep the Amazon vouchers themselves to buy their own books for more articles or put them into book fund to help editors further improve Turkish-related topics by giving them the books they want. It will begin though as purely an improvement drive. If interested, or you think anybody else might be interested, alert them and sign up on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey talk page at the bottom. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!
