Please reconsider
Hi. I ask you to reconsider your stance on worker satisfaction lead mention at the Fastenal page. WP:LEAD and WP:WEIGHT are flexible enough to allow this mention. Please reconsider the fact that your opinion on what constitutes "important aspects of the article" may not be the best guide to acceptable content. Let's work together and make a better page. Fleetham (talk) 17:25, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- I asked you three times already not to split the discussion. The only page this discussion will take place in is Talk:Fastenal. --Muhandes (talk) 16:30, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Cape Cleveland Light
On 5 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Cape Cleveland Light, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that, with a tower only 6.7 metres (22 ft) tall, the lighthouse keepers at Cape Cleveland Light had to wind the clockwork mechanism every 75 minutes? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

User talk:46.116.200.228
Hi, just thought since you made the last warning at User talk:46.116.200.228 one that threatened a block, I'd point out this edit and let you decide whether it's worthy of your promise of a block (I've not undergone any training for blocking, so I consider myself not qualified to issue blocks). The edit here is the introduction of a fallacy into an article. Bob the WikipediaN (talk • contribs) 16:42, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. It seems like another editor (the one I warned was a single purpose editor, vandalizing population numbers for Israeli cities). I'm going to assume good faith on this one, but I left another warning. --Muhandes (talk) 16:59, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- No problem! That's probably a wise choice-- I was somewhat tempted to assume it was good faith as well, but wasn't sure if there is such an assumption after such recently confirmed vandalism. Bob the WikipediaN (talk • contribs) 02:35, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Request for help
Hello Muhandes, I would like to ask for your help.Recently I have uploaded a picture with all required information and copyright info to an article.I have explained copyright details which is in Farsi in English and warned against deleting this. But one of administrator deleted the image immediately without any clarification be forehead. If they don't know Persian they should ask for help from Persian community or administrator I guess.
"Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged"
I complained and they accused me of lying and vandalism and also they keep saying I bland my page when I receive warning.I have done this only once (in the case of warning) when I was trying to find a way to response to your request on images I have uploaded wrongly. Please if possible come to my talk page and read through discussions.I think this is my right to defend myself when I am accused of lying and vandalism without any proof.
Thank you ehsan1388 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ehsan1388 (talk • contribs) 05:27, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- I've read the discussion and it seems to me like the image was removed because the English page on which it appeared did not include the permission. If you provide the page from which the image was taken, with the permission in Farsi, the image should be restored. I also recommend uploading such images directly to Wikipedia Commons. I left a word on your talk page asking everyone to continue going with good faith. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 07:47, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you sir, really appreciate you words. Now I will submit the page only to you not to those rude people!Thank you again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ehsan1388 (talk • contribs) 08:29, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Muhandes,Sorry for headache.I Had no success in contacting wikipedia!I also contacted one of the editor and asked for help but he replied DO NOT Canvas!! therefore I submit the link to the page (of original photo in Persian) only to you.I hope i am not asking too much.this is the link to the original image and the copyright notice at the bottom of the page in Persian.http://www.mehrnews.com/fa/newsdetail.aspx?NewsID=1242739
- I also uploaded new picture to wikipedia Farsi.http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/پرونده:Space_Lab_ISA.jpg and http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/پرونده:Safir_slv_omid_carrier.jpg
- I wait for your response to either use those picture and or restoration of the previous one.

- I don't speak Farsi, what does the copyright notice at the bottom actually say? --Muhandes (talk) 17:36, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hi,it looks like i have put my friends in real trouble including you and OhioStandard. He thinks that I have been impolite not telling him i have contacted you and one of editors.
- Anyway: It says "Moralization and trusteeship" in bold on the top and " You are allowed to use these pictures as far as you mention the source "Mehrnews agency" at the bottom.
- This is my last message to you.I really do not intend to bother anybody.Whatever you do I respect.Thank you for all your help.Thank you.--Ehsan1388 (talk) 18:23, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
My assessments
Sure. I was going to discuss this with you. The main reason for my C class assessment was that the lead didn't include a concise summary of the article. I think they define the topic, establish context, explain why the subject is interesting or notable but do not summarize the most important points.
Do you think your leads are adequate? Sometimes when you have worked on an article a lot it can be difficult to create a concise summary. I will try Double Island Point Light which now has a short lead. - Shiftchange (talk) 00:34, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with your assessment. From some odd reason I only do the lead when I go GA, I should start doing it for all articles I write. I wrote one for Cleveland Point Light. Thanks for the feedback. --Muhandes (talk) 06:52, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

How dare you defame me by accusing me of vadalizing wikipedia.
You have no basis for making such accusations and i will not stand for it. The fact is you have no idea what you are doing and it is apparent. I was the initial author of the tanglewood country club page and i went to great lenghts to make sure the page was accurate, detailed and provided history regarding the club and current events about the club. In the saem way a wiki page on baseball or congress would includ past and present members and employees for example, i have done the same here. Your unilateral determination that such information is not relevant reveals your ignorance. It is my position that it is YOU who is vandalizing wikipedia by engaging in pointless and obstructive tactics designed to give yourself total control over information. I beleive it is important that wikipedia take a good look at your efforts and ban you from participating in wikipedia edits into perpetuity. The bottom line is that you do not know what you are doing nor what is relevant on a given page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.93.234.110 (talk) 21:47, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Reveal
Sorry about the edit conflicts on the Reveal page, but since certifications were already being discussed in the prose (and there aren't many in the first place), there's really no need for a table there, so I converted it all to prose. Like I said, the table is best used for when you have to deal with a lot of certifications, kind of like how the chart tables are only really necessary if albums charted in a lot of countries. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:35, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, sorry for the misunderstanding. --Muhandes (talk) 10:38, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe part of the instructions can recommend a certain amount of certifications where the table format is ideal? Like 5~10 and greater? WesleyDodds (talk) 10:40, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- WP:ALBUM/CERT says "a table can be created if an album has achieved multiple certifications" (my emphasis). If you feel like specifying a number in that guideline I will copy paste it on the template documentation. --Muhandes (talk) 11:00, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Tracking
Hi, I noticed that you deleted my entry on the Tracking page:
" *Tracking, in automotive engineering, a synonym for Toe "
Please can you tell me the reason.
Here's a link to a page which describes this kind of tracking:
http://www.beardmorebros.co.uk/website%20pages/how%20to/tracking.htm
Thanks! Cross-keys (talk) 03:42, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- I removed because the article Toe (automotive) did not mention "Tracking", as it should in the case of a synonym. As you provided a source I added it in both places.--Muhandes (talk) 06:15, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, fair enough. To be honest, I believe that the term 'Toe' is used in the USA, whereas in the UK (where I'm based), the term is 'Tracking' or occasionally 'Wheel alignment'. Thanks for making the changes. I was originally looking for some info on Tracking and it took me quite a while to find it, hence the reason I added in the UK term! Best, Cross-keys (talk) 08:21, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- That's quite common. I'm currently writing about Australian lighthouses and I add such local names almost daily. If you could find a source saying that this is a British English term it would be even better, though it's perfectly OK as it is. --Muhandes (talk) 09:39, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

change the title of "true single molecule sequencing"
Hi Muhandes,
I've changed the page according to your suggestions, remove the over-links.
And I want to change the title, because I think it not so appropriate to name that technology as "true single molecule sequencing", which covers a much wider range than this technology. It's better to call it "single molecule fluorescent sequencing". But I cannot find where to change the title.
Thanks. Have a nice day.

Hi
Can you tell me what was wrong with the table and also with the press articles.
Regards, Karan Bir — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karanbir88 (talk • contribs) 07:40, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- Where to begin with? Well, for first, the table was unsourced. Then when I found the source it was evidently a copyrights violation. But even if it wasn't, none of these people is even remotely notable enough to have his entire CV in Wikipedia. I'm not sure even mentioning their names is right, but I left that.
- As for the list of press article, Wikipedia is not a complete exposition of all possible details. If there are important facts in these press notices, add them to the article body, with proper citation. Just a plain list of articles is a list of miscellaneous information. In addition, as the articles are not used for verification of any fact, they might even be considered spam. --Muhandes (talk) 09:40, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Wt./Wight
Hello. I have been creating redirects for all two-letter combinations followed by a period, and I found we had an existing red link to Wt. at the time I created its redirect to WT. Our article at Lasianthus lists Wt. as a notation. Knowing little about botany, I found through research that Wight, Wt. and RW are all notations variously used to denote Robert Wight, who did extensive botanical studies in India. Taking the example above, here are those variants:
- "Lasianthus capitulatus, Wt." -- Philip Furley Fyson (1932) The flora of the South Indian hill stations
- "Lasianthus capitulatus, (RW)" -- Calcutta journal of natural history, and miscellany of the arts
- "Lasianthus capitulatus, Wight" -- Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, The flora of British India, Volume 3
As another example
- Amoora lawii (Wt.) -- M. J. Kothari, K. M. Rao, N. P. Singh, P. S. N. Rao (2002). Mangroves of Goa
- Amoora lawii, Wight -- Edward Balfour, The cyclopædia of India and of eastern and southern Asia
"It is noted that Robert Wight (Ic. PI. Ind. Or. 4: 2, 1771. 1848) came across a similar plant probably at Sisparah on the Western slopes of Nilgiris (Tamil Nadu) as understood from the note he had given under L. trichandra Wt." -- Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences - 1978
I will add a citation from 1968 to the disambiguation page shortly. Thanks. Jokestress (talk) 22:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- Adding the sources to the article is great. I'll remove the source from the dab page though, see WP:DABNOT. --Muhandes (talk) 22:36, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Need help on Indonesia's previous certification levels!
I need help on Indonesia's previous certification levels (today, the requirements are 35000 and 75000 copies, respectively). Recently, I read Billboard magazine from the 1980s, they said the gold award for music recordings in Indonesia for domestic recordings is 400000 copies, in the 1980s. Also, I read the Billboard magazine in 1997, which in 1997, the requirements are 100000 copies for Gold award, but in 1998, it was 150000 copies for Platinum. Which one is right? MrFawwaz (talk) 06:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- First thing to notice is that Indonesia uses different thresholds for domestic and international media, so you'll have to be careful with that. Assuming these are all domestic levels (and I did not look at Billboard so I can't say), there is no reason not to assume they are all correct. In the 1980s 400,000/something, in 1997 100,000/something, in 1998 something/150,000, now 35,000/75,000. Since we don't have the exact dates all we can do is write what we have.
- Also, some more data points:
- November 1995: Gold for international is 25 (Billboard)
- January 2006: 75/150 for domestic 25/50 for international (from this)
- October 2007: 75/150 for domestic 20/40 for international (from this)
- January 2009: 35/75 for domestic 10/15 for international (from this), and this is also the current level.
--Muhandes (talk) 07:22, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- Take a look first...
- 1981: Gold disc award for domestic products are 400000 copies (1981 Indonesian Gold Disc Award): saying 400000 copies for gold award in Indonesia, compared to 25000 copies in Malaysia.
- 1997: (1997 Indonesian gold and quadruple platinum levels): saying "already has gone gold with more than 100000 units sold." and "sales exceeding 700000 copies". But it supposed to be 800000 copies, meaning that a platinum awarded at 200000 copies for domestic repertoire.
- 1998: (1998 Platinum levels): saying 150000 copies for platinum award.
This is what I found about Indonesian music recording certification levels. I am so confused. MrFawwaz (talk) 11:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- It can mean one of two things
- 1. The threshold in 1997 was 100/200 and in 1998 it went to 75/150. The 700,000 is a typo.
- 2. The threshold in 1997 was 75/150. The 700,000 is a sales figure, not the level in which it was awarded. So the award was for 600,000 and they sold 100,000 more, and their second album got Gold on 75,000 and went on to sell 100,000.
- However, all of this is WP:OR. I suggest you add the following facts to the article:
- Domestic levels were originally 400,000 for Gold. It was changed to 75/150 sometime before March 1998 and remained so at least until October 2007. It was changed to 35/75 at or before January 2009, where it stands now.
- International levels were 25/50 at least from 1995 to 2006. It was changed to 20/40 on or before October 2007 and to 10/15 on or before January 2009, where it stands now.

Hi I added a link to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Rumer_(musician) It was a link to a genuine interview with Rumer, not advertising as was suggested. How can I add a link such as this, is there a more appropriate place for it? Barb philip (talk) 01:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- As I explained in the edit summary, adding such a link is a violation of WP:ELNO rule #1: "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article." In other words, since the material in the article can be incorporated into the article it should not be added as an external link. What you should do is add the material from the interview to the page itself and use the interview as a source, see WP:CITE on how to do that. --Muhandes (talk) 01:17, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.
For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:19, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Listed buildings etc
Re your comment in your edit summary at Rijksmonument, if the list gets too big, it can be spun off into a separate list. For now, it is small enough that it should not be spun off. I would imagine that many countries have mechanisms for protecting historic buildings, but for many of them we don't have articles. Mjroots (talk) 11:48, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Australia actually has at least 6 more registers I didn't list. I guess my point was that this list can/should be added to all heritage register articles in the world, or to none. This seems to me like a job for a navigation template rather than a list. I might give it a try later. --Muhandes (talk) 12:04, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- You might want to take a look at {{Windmills by Country}} for one idea on how to handle such a navbox. Another approach would be to create a List of historic building designations (or similar) in which all aspects of statutory protection of historic buildings by country can be presented. Mjroots (talk) 17:21, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- List of heritage registers already exists. --Muhandes (talk) 22:50, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Low Isles Light
On 18 March 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Low Isles Light, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Low Isles Light, an active lighthouse established in 1878 on Low Island, a coral cay near Port Douglas, was the first lighthouse in Far North Queensland? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Major thanks
Thank you for your major contributions to WP:QLD maritime navigational aids. You should be very proud of your work. How about that Moreton Bay Pile Light, wasn't it a beauty? Have there been or are there many other lights like that one? - Shiftchange (talk) 08:08, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliment, I quite enjoyed writing these. As far as I can tell Moreton Bay Pile Light was a unique design by Heath, who really deserves an article for himself for his contribution to QLD lighthouses. I'm not very experienced in writing biography articles, but maybe one day. --Muhandes (talk) 11:07, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
AMP
Sir: The addition made by us is completely accurate and historically relevant for this famous audio codec which is at the root of the MP3 revolution. Confused as to why you would delete. Regards, -DopfEedopf (talk) 19:37, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- As I said already both at the edit summary and at your own talk page, please peruse WP:DAB and MOS:DAB regarding what should be added to dab pages and how. In essence, dab pages are not informative and should only be used as aids for searching. If there is nothing to search for, don't add it to the dab page. --Muhandes (talk) 19:39, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
Muhandes- With apologies, you are quite correct. We "shot" before we asked questions. And reverted your correct removal before checking rules or seeing your first objection. Addition was made for historical completeness not promotion. Seems AMP "Audio MPEG Player" should be linked to Tomislav Uzelac, cofounder of PlayMedia who already has an entry in Wikipedia. PlayMedia should probably have its own Wikipedia entry as its AMP was the basis of WinAmp (WinAmp was Windows + AMP) and MacAmp and powered Napster's MP3 playback. Thanks for your direction (and also for your obvious devotion to integrity on Wikipedia). -EEDEedopf (talk)

Initiative to clean up Ram Rahim Singh
Greetings, I've seen your efforts from late 2010 to improve Ram Rahim Singh, which were overwhelmed by partisanship. Please note that several editors from WP:INDIA have arrived to defend WP procedures in pursuit of improving this article. I imagine you were rather frustrated in your earlier endeavors, but rest assured we have more editors investigating the issue, and can summon more from WP India if needed. Your renewed participation would be appreciated, especially in terms of tracking down controversial but properly sourced material that was deleted in the subsequent edit warring. Regarding Rødovre Article
Though I think that it is great that you take the time to flag every aspect of what I have written as useless, I would just like to take a moment of your time to tell you that I am not a good speller, and worse at grammar. So yeah, that shouldn't exclude me from using wikipedia should it?
I just want to suggest that actually fix the article then, seeing how unsatisfied and better knowing you are, then that would be great. Also, needs verified sources - from where? I know these things, I live in the damn town? How would you want me to cite that from the web when that information is not available on the net?
Thanks for your time anyway, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.242.171.116 (talk) 20:18, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't intend to revert any of your edits based on spelling or grammar, and if I did, I apologize. My concern is with verifiability, one of the most important things in Wikipedia. Specifically, per this guideline in a list of residents each member of the list needs to be notable and requires a source verifying membership in the list. I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but that's how Wikipedia works - if you can't source something, you can't write it. I'll try to help you find some sources later. If anything else is not clear, feel free to ask. Muhandes (talk) 20:33, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I added a couple of sources and removed a couple of items from the list which did not seem to belong there. You can add the remaining one and remove the tag. --Muhandes (talk) 08:30, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Copy-editing project
Hello Muhandes! I would like to propose, if you may, help me with a project that I am currently writing. I need help with copy-editing an article (Dreaming of You) to be a featured article. Unfortunately it failed because of poor grammar and choice words. However, I'm not that bright in English grammar and was wondering if you can help me out and we can work on it together? It's up to you if want to help me out or not, I understand if you don't and there's no hard feelings. Thanks for reading though, have a great day :) AJona1992 (talk) 14:41, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Jona. I'm afraid I might not be the ideal editor for this - English is my third language, and albums are not something I often write about, so I'm not much familiar with the nomenclature. I manage with articles which deal with engineering and history (OK, lighthouses should also be involved for me to feel comfortable). However, I'd be happy to help with what I can. I'll find the time in the following week to go over the article and do what I can. Feel free to remind me in case a week passes and I haven't done anything. Best regards, and happy editing. --Muhandes (talk) 14:55, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Albums that require corrections
Salena's album the certification figures of which need corrections:
- Ven Conmigo has been certified by RIAA in 2002 for 2x Platinum for shipment/sales of 400,000. The Latin-type certification levels back then were still Gold=100,000, Platinum=200,000. The album has not been re-certified after 2008 when the levels were reduced.
- Entre a Mi Mundo has received its 6x Platinum in 2002 for shipment/sales of 1,200,000.
- Live! The Last Concert has received its Platinum in 2001 for shipment/sales of 200,000.
- 17 Super Exitos has been certified by RIAA in 2003 for 6x Platinum for shipment/sales of 1,200,000.
- Siempre Selena has been certified by RIAA in 2002 for 2x Platinum for shipment/sales of 400,000.
- Anthology (Selena album) has been certified by RIAA in 2002 for 6x Platinum for shipment/sales of 1,200,000.
- All My Hits Vol.1 has been certified by RIAA in 2002 for 6x Platinum for shipment/sales of 1,200,000.
- All My Hits Vol. 2 has been certified by RIAA in 2002 for 2x Platinum for shipment/sales of 400,000.

Hi Muhandes, thanks four your feedback on various updates I have made. I'm not sure I understand what was wrond with the sources? Please can you explain more clearly what the difference is between what I used and what I should use?
With regards to the image, it was taken by a professional photographer commissioned by me and I (or rather my company) own the full rights to these pictures to do with what I please. I found the options available in the licencing section didn't cover this option despite this being the way most photography is generated in media - which would be the option I should choose?

- Sources are used for verification. If you mention a fact, you need some reliable source which can corroborate it. In most cases it needs to be a secondary source. As this has been more than 6 months ago, I really don't remember what you used.
- As for the image, I understand that you are the owner of a company which is representing Jonnie Irwin, and File:Jonnie irwin.jpg is owned by your company. In that case the license you used seems proper. You might want to add these details to the file description, to prevent others from raising any doubts, although you don't have to. Personally I'd prefer an image which was not cleaned up - I think they are more natural. In any case, if you are indeed representing Mr Irwin, then there is a conflict of interest. I suggest you review these guidelines carefully. --Muhandes (talk) 10:40, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Indian Institutes of Technology
Hi Muhandes,
I have provided the link for the bill that clearly states the required changes in the Act for the conversion. That bill is already passed in the Loksabha and pending in Rajyasabha. The bill includes all the new IITs and IT-BHU. Please note that that is the current state which should be shown in Wikipedia. Officially, none of the new IITs are officially IITs yet because they are not yet included in the Institutes of Technology Act-1961. Therefore, new IITs and IT-BHU should be treated at the same ground since their fates are at the same level. Given that, either we should say that there are seven IITs and nine proposed one (including IT-BHU) or just say total sixteen IITs. The former requires quite a lot of editing, so I preferred to stay with the latter. However, excluding IT-BHU from the proposed IITs list is misleading in the sense that it gives an impression that the ground of IT-BHU is different from other new IITs, which is not correct. Regarding what you think about the conversion, please note that wikipedia is not a place where you should be personal about providing information. We need to provide the current state in a manner that reflects the information in its true form. Your edits do not achieve that. In my edits, I never said that IT-BHU is an IIT. I have clearly mentioned that it is currently a faculty under BHU. The issue is, either you count all the new IITs and IT-BHU to say that there are sixteen IITs or you exclude all the new ones and differentiate between existing and proposed. May be you already know it; till the new IITs are included in the act, they cannot award B.Tech. degrees since they are registered under societies act. Like IIMs, they can only award diplomas. Therefore, as an IIT, the new IITs do not really meet the criteria of being called IITs. Also, I don't know why you feel the conversion of IT-BHU will take years when whole political body (ruling and opposition) along with the big shots like Rahul Gandhi, APJ Abdul Kalam and Pratibha Patil have given their supports for conversion. Now its just a matter of time which is also running out and Govt. must pass the bill as soon as possible, as the first batch in some IITs are about to pass out soon. Hope this clarifies the issues and the reasons I did the edits. Thanks for leaving the message. Good luck, Abhijeet 1998 (talk) 15:54, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Some more clarifications about what you mentioned in your message to me. There aren't any list of requirements to be met anymore for conversions. The requirements have been already finalized before drafting the bill since the bill must mention the legal requirements. For details, please go through the bill. If you want chronology of all events that happened before the bill was drafted, please read the posts at http://www.itbhuglobal.org which is the webs site of IT-BHU alumni who have played crucial role in making this conversion a reality. Secondly, there is no ceremonial requirement after the conversion. Once the bill is passed, only thing remaining will be changing the sign boards and the official letter heads (I am not sure what you meant by ceremony. The one mentioned in the front page of IT-BHU is regarding convocation,i.e., awarding degrees. The reason they have delayed is so that the new graduate students can be awarded the degrees of IIT. Also, it is the prerogative of the institute to award IIT degrees to the alumni, like what Roorkee did after its conversion). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhijeet 1998 (talk • contribs) 16:03, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I lack the time to look at all this now, but I will look at it tomorrow. If reliable sources are found, I will amend the article. RIAA: Latin type certifications
This is with regards to your recent edits at Dreaming of You (album). The levels for Latin type of certifications in USA were amended in the beginning of 2008, they were reduced from previous Gold=100,000, Platinum=200,000 to Gold=50,000, Platinum=100,000, see this [here]. And, when an older release gets certified or re-certified in USA, RIAA applies the newer certification-levels to it (for all types, not just Latin type). Actually, both RIAA and SNEP do the same, they both apply the most recent certification-levels when a record reaches present certification-levels regardless of its release date. So, for Dreaming of You, it should read 35x Platinum (Latin type)=3,500,000.--Harout72 (talk) 15:32, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't know the older certifications were corrected. If I understand the source correctly, this is not only for new certifications - it says "All titles certified under the Latin program prior to January 1, 2008 received automatic amendments to their certification levels". I correct the template to ignore the release year. Can you supply a source for SNEP doing this too? --Muhandes (talk) 15:45, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the template needs to be designed in a way that it treats these levels correctly. For example, if a Spanish sung album as MIS MEJORES CANCIONES: 17 SUPER EXITOS has received its 6x Platinum in 2003 for shipments/sales of 1,200,000 (see the previous levels here) but has not been re-certified after the change in levels, then it automatically will read 6x Platinum=600,000, if the template ignores the previous levels, and that would be incorrect. I'm not sure if the template will work correctly without further improvements. But if another Spanish sung album as Ones has received its Platinum-award in 2003 for 200,000 units, and has been re-certified in 2010 for 5x Platinum (500,000 units), in this case, the template will serve its purpose correctly. By the way, I'm not sure if you're aware, but levels for Digital Downloads in USA were Gold=100,000, Platinum=200,000 before September 2006 (See this before the change and see this after the change).
- For SNEP, just like RIAA, I have not come across any sources that immediately emphasize how they operate. But if you look at ABBA's The Definitive Collection album (for example) which was released in 2001 but received its Gold certification from SNEP in 2009 for shipment/sales of 50,000, you will see that SNEP does the same thing. Now as we know, SNEP's levels for albums in 2001 were Gold=100,000, Platinum=300,000 and they were reduced from Gold=75,000, Platinum=200,000 (this was changed in 2005 at the same time as the levels for the Singles) to Gold=50,000, Platinum=100,000 in July 2009. Hope all this helped.--Harout72 (talk) 00:59, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I do not fully understand. This statement says "All titles certified under the Latin program prior to January 1, 2008 received automatic amendments to their certification levels", wouldn't that mean that originally 50 MIS MEJORES CANCIONES: 17 SUPER EXITOS received 3 Platinum for 600,000 and in 2008 it was amended to 6 Platinum? --Muhandes (talk) 06:15, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
You are interpreting the statement correctly. But the trick is to always look at the issue date of certifications. In other words, Entre a Mi Mundo has received 6x Platinum before the amendment for 1,200,000 units (see where it reads Certification Date and immediately under that 12/17/2002), after the amendment, with newer levels, it automatically means 12x Platinum still for 1,200,000 units, even though they have not updated the posting. So in order for the template to work correctly, it has to be designed in a way that it is able to determine the figures by reading the certification-date. If it detects that the date of the certification is from after February 2008, the template should automatically use 2x platinum with 200,000. If it detects that the date of the certification is from before Feb. 2008, the template should automatically use the older levels with corresponding figures, 2x platinum with 400,000. Let me know please if this was helpful.--Harout72 (talk) 07:31, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Again, I'll have to take your word for it, as it goes contrary to my previous understanding, which was that the words "automatic amendments" mean that the the database was updated. It's easy to implement, all I need to do is make the template take the date from the certyear parameter rather than the relyear one, for France and US. We'll have to manually go over all uses and add the certyear parameter. But if you are 100% certain this is how it works, I'll do that. --Muhandes (talk) 08:04, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Also, regarding Digital Downloads, I currently don't support it by the template, if the need arises I can change that. --Muhandes (talk) 10:53, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I'm very certain about this, RIAA doesn't update every posting unfortunately when a change in levels occurs. Let me give you one other quick example of their updates, Elvis Presley's single "Hard Headed Woman" was originally certified Gold in 1958 for shipment/sales of 1 million units, then, not long after RIAA reduced the singles-threshold in 1989 from Gold=1,000,000, Platinum=2,000,000 to Gold=500,000, Platinum=1,000,000 (see this article for previous levels), RIAA updated quite a few of their original postings including Presley's "Hard Headed Woman". Note that they have only updated it by applying the newer certification level, Platinum, still representing 1,000,000 units, the date of the certification is changed. RIAA seems to update only the postings of those artists, another single/album of whose is receiving a new certification, see here Presley's other singles have received certifications on the same exact date they updated the level for "Hard Headed Woman".--Harout72 (talk) 15:41, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- I already implemented the table this way, and corrected all entries. I'll do France tomorrow. --Muhandes (talk) 15:45, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Hello Muhandes. I don't know if you saw on my talk page, but I've noticed that there was a certification for Spanish-language albums for the Hispanic market in the United States and for Puerto Rico. Apparently, certifications for these albums have existed before it was recognized by the RIAA. I've noticed for example in a citation that Romances, it states that it got a 9x platinum in United States and Puerto Rico. Another example I found was that Cuenta Conmigo by Jerry Rivera was triple platinum in Puerto Rico. Have a look and tell me what you think. Magiciandude (talk) 04:07, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Note that Billboard are careful with their text. They don't say it is double platinum, they say it is 'described by Sony as "double platinum"'. It is also very clear from the article that RIAA did not certify it, nor did it mean at the time to certify anything below 500,000 units, until they caved in and started the Los Premios de Oro y De Platino program. So I think this is self certification, and should not be listed in certification tables. If the sales figure is mentioned it can be listed of course.
- There seems to be quite a bit of it going around. I don't remember the album, but I saw one where Sony awarded their artist a gold album for "worldwide sales", another clear sign that it is self-certification. If you are having problems with editors pushing these self-certifications we can take it to WT:ALBUM or WP:CHARTS. --Muhandes (talk) 06:06, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- Alright I was just making sure. Magiciandude (talk) 13:29, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
