Orphaned non-free image (Image:Fort Nightly.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Fort Nightly.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 10:05, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Non-free use disputed for Image:SteadyAsSheGoes StoreBoughtBones.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:SteadyAsSheGoes StoreBoughtBones.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Vetiver.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Vetiver.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Ice Hockey August 2007 Newsletter
[edit]
WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter Dear Muéro! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject! From the project, Maxim. New recognized content By Maxim
Article Improvement By Maxim Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status. Diacritics By Maxim In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt. Task forces By Maxim This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES. This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock. Requested Images By Maxim

Albert Hammond, Jr.
[edit]I can't believe you put my page for Albert's second album up for deletion less than 10 minutes after I put it up! That being said, I'm not going to be an ass here and rag on you, that won't help anyone. The link to Albert's blog would not go throw wikipedia because it's a myspace blog link. So I scrambled and got some other links to make up for them to save the page from deletion. But honestly, calm down and don't jump the trigger so fast in the future. Poor little Wiki page, barely out of childhood and someone's trying to delete it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Laynethebangs (talk • contribs)

New recognized content By Maxim Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]
There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.
Did You Know? By Maxim
Featured Topic Drive By Maxim Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:
Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion. |

A tag has been placed on Sher-Wood, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD A1.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Jerm (Talk/ Contrib) 00:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Archiving
[edit]Hello Muero. Over a year ago, you awarded me with a badge for 'minor editing' on hockey articles. Since then I've accidently deleted it in my attempt to archive my pages. I've never learnt how to archive pages, what I do is delete them with a directory placed at 'edit summary'. Therefore they're sorta archived, via my personal page 'edit history'. Just letting you know it was accidentle. 22:49, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

reversion at ring of bells
[edit]Hi. I suppose that you were patrolling recent changes and noticed the rather unencyclopedic language that I added to ring of bells. So you reverted it. Let me explain: I was cleaning up campanology and deleted that text from that article; but despite the impossibly unencylcopedic style I decided there was a kernel of real substance (and good faith) to it and so I decided to save it (but in its proper home, the more specific ring of bells rather than the more general campanology). For the sake of making the edit history clear, however, it's important to first make the cut-and-paste edit (carefully noting this fact in the edit history) and only subsequently clean it up in a separate edit. You caught me in between the two steps. I thought my edit summary made what I was up to clear; sorry if it wasn't. Doops | talk 20:38, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Cabot Creamery Advertising
[edit]Sorry, but I don't understand what the problem is with adding information to Cabot Creamery regarding their popular new advertising campaign. The last guy did a crappy job trying to argue with me and criticized me as a spammer which I am not. Cale (talk) 05:05, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- I figured the celebrity endorsement of Luis Guzmán, and the notion that this is Cabot's first serious national ad campaign, was enough to merit its inclusion in some form. But I understand your argument and thank you for your critical analysis. Cale (talk) 05:32, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
An invitation to join WikiProject Ohio
[edit]Hi, you are listed under Category:Wikipedians in Ohio or one of its subcategories. WikiProject Ohio has been slowing down and we're looking for active Ohioans to turn that around! But first, let us introduce ourselves; we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Ohio and we're sure there's somewhere you'll fit in just fine. The project's departments include article quality assessment: We have over 5,000 articles to assess for class alone, newsletter writing: This has been delayed by a few months, and new page patrolling: Which has also been slowing down. We also have a newly formed taskforce on our over 1,000 townships at WP:OHTWP.
We have 132 members, many of which are not active within the project. If you are listed there and still received this message please accept the auotmated porcess's apologies. If you are interested in joining us please list you name here. If you're not interested please note this is a one time invite and you will never hear from us again.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave a message at our talkpage or with any member of the project, we'll be happy to answer any of your questions. We look forward to seeing you around!

[edit]Thanks for the input, I will try to tone it down. However, I felt this tone was the only way to get change since I was dealing with one poster set in his ways, and a group of people that have taken an "attachment" to the article. By the way, I personally don't have a problem with telling someone their position is irrational, if it is, and I do it in real life without any problems. In fact, I appreciate people doing the same to me when I am off the deep end. Which I don't think I am here. So I don't see that as too aggressive, maybe I am in the minority on that point. Still, point taken. Cliesthenes (talk) 16:09, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

The article The Evening Episode has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No reliable sources given or found to establish notability of a musical group.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. tedder (talk) 00:14, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of The Physicist Has Known Sin
[edit]A tag has been placed on The Physicist Has Known Sin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. tedder (talk) 00:40, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
I see you contribute to the hockey stuff on the wiki
[edit]My name's George and I'm from the Cleveland area. My buddy Greg DeLiso, from Detroit, produces a webseries, that has gotten legitimate media attention, about the adventures of "Fake Henrik Zetterberg" -- a character who dresses as Zetterberg (full gear), but lives in New York City working in an office.
I was wondering, if Greg could link you to some media stories regarding the WebSeries, if you could include it in the "related media" section for Zetterberg's entry. I am not sure how adding things works, so I thought I'd talk to one of the people who seems to edit redwings entries.
I would appreciate it a lot if you could contact me via e-mail. My e-mail is gpdavis@kent.edu

Comma removal in connection with postnom removal
[edit]Hello.
Thank you for your contributions. Regarding your edit of Frederick Curzon, 7th Earl Howe, and similar edits removing postnoms per the new guidelines, please don't remove the comma after the parenthetical birth–death expression. It's supposed to be there per WP:COMMA: "Don't let other punctuation distract you from the need for a comma, especially when the comma collides with a bracket or parenthesis".
Thank you. HandsomeFella (talk) 15:50, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, good catch. I can't wait for the day when nobility titles are also excluded entirely, which would make that comma unnecessary anyway. Muéro(talk/c) 15:58, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello again.
- Thank you for your understanding. Re: your latest edits, you're now leaving a comma in place that shouldn't be there.
Nathaniel Charles Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild, (29 April 1936 – 26 February 2024), ^ ^ ^ A B C
- Commas A and C are paired, comma B should be removed along with the postnoms that followed it. Commas rarely precede parentheses.
- Cheers.
- HandsomeFella (talk) 17:52, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think that makes sense. If someone doesn't have a nobility/royalty title, there is no comma before or after the life span. When adding the nobility/royalty title, the pair of commas should go before and after the nobility/royalty title. Why, when adding the nobility/royalty title, would the life span get looped into the comma pair? Muéro(talk/c) 17:56, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- HandsomeFella (talk) 17:52, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
Step by step
[edit]I think it makes perfect sense. You don't put a parenthetical expression after punctuation, do you? Let me take this step by step. Normally, the first sentence would be something like this:
John Doe was a Whig politician ...
Now let's add that he was a peer:
John Doe, 1st Baron Doe, was a Whig politician ... ^ ^ A B
The commas A and B are paired, i.e. the "parenthetical" title is set off at both ends (unless when there is other punctuation, like at the end of sentence). Let's see what happens without the closing (second) comma:
John Doe, 1st Baron Doe was a Whig politician ...
If the commas aren't paired, the sentence reads "1st Baron Doe was a Whig politician", and "John Doe" is left dangling at the start of the sentence.
Now, let's add the life span. Where do we add it? Before punctuation.
John Doe, 1st Baron Doe (1 January 1801 – 31 December 1881), was a Whig politician ... ^ ^ A B
The commas A and B are still paired. See?
HandsomeFella (talk) 23:04, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- The nobility title is a nonessential appositive. Commas go before and after a nonessential appositive. I'm assuming you don't consider the lifespan, which is never set off by commas in a Wikipedia article, to be a part of the same nonessential appositive somehow, right? If it's not included in the nobility title nonessential appositive, then it goes outside the commas. Muéro(talk/c) 00:04, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- No, it doesn't. Sure, the lifespan parenthetical isn't part of the appositive, but neither are the commas, which is demonstrated by the fact that at, if the name and title occurred at the end of a sentence, there wouldn't be a comma; there would be a period/full stop:
... Joseph Smith bequeathed the manor to his nephew, John Doe, 1st Baron Doe (1801–1881).
- You wouldn't place the parenthetical outside the sentence like this, would you?
... Joseph Smith bequeathed the manor to his nephew, John Doe, 1st Baron Doe. (1801–1881)
- Ergo: normal rules apply, which is that punctuation doesn't precede a parenthetical. (The exception being when there is a complete sentence inside the parentheses, in which case punctuation occurs both at the end of the preceding sentence, i.e. before the parenthetical, and before the closing parenthetical, as shown here.)
- Commas go before and after an appositive (unless there is other punctuation), but that does not necessarily mean immediately after.
- HandsomeFella (talk) 10:29, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- "Punctuation doesn't precede a parenthetical" is not a rule at all. It's just something you made up.
- If the parenthetical were being applied to the nobility title, then the parenthetical should go within the commas that set off the nobility title. But the parenthetical is being applied to the actual name of the person, which came before the nonessential appositive that is set off by commas.
- If you dislike the placement of the nobility title between the name and the lifespan parenthetical, I wouldn't disagree. I'd happily remove the nobility title entirely from the lead sentence (or heck, the whole article). Or put the lifespan parenthetical first, and then the nobility title. But wherever the nobility appositive is being stuck, it gets set off by commas. That's the rule. Muéro(talk/c) 13:38, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- HandsomeFella (talk) 10:29, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
Since it's clear we will not agree, I have copied this discussion to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Input needed on disagreement over where the lifespan goes in relation to a baronetcy or a peerage title to get more input from the project. Let's continue there. HandsomeFella (talk) 20:34, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
post nominals
[edit]Hello, when removing post-nominals from the lead sentence, can you please ensure they're in the infobox? Otherwise it requires a massive clean-up of edits. Cheers. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 22:36, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- With almost 500 edits to go through, its borderline disruptive editing. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 22:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I would argue that they shouldn't be in the infobox, either. At least not at the top, which is where I've been seeing them. I guess I don't believe post-nominals belong anywhere except certain specific contexts. I don't believe there is any official guideline that says post-nominals need to in the infobox, but if you can make an argument that they should be in the infobox, then I will make sure they are in the infobox. Muéro(talk/c) 23:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
