Speedy Deletion
[edit]How is my page a blatant adveritisement? I coppied a Wikipedia Article about a soda company that I have never actually bought from so that I can read it every time I log in. It seems Wikipedia has a double standard about this kind of thing. It say's on one delete "Copyright infringement, but if it is so what about the Jones Soda article I coppied? Will that be deleted? talk — Preceding undated comment added 00:20, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
I wrote a page concerning a public figure, Andrew Maloney (my father). This was my first foray into creating a wiki page. Why is the page inappropriate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duke Maloney (talk • contribs) 19:17, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Duke Maloney: Yes, I understand that you were trying to help. However, when you write about someone close to you, it is likely that there will be bias. See WP:COI. Mr. Guye (talk) 19:22, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- In last few days, I've observed that you seem to be uncomfortable with the correct definition of WP:PROD. Let me give you some examples, you've added PROD tag to established articles such as this article. You have removed PROD tag from non-notable articles like this article. Just now, you had added PROD tag to this article, which wasn't even required.
- You've to be more careful when you add PROD tag to articles, it is a serious tag. Thank you. OccultZone (Talk • Contributions • Log) 03:24, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- You seem to have listed the page for deletion under a number or irrelevant criteria.
1.You listed it as a test page, which it was not, really. Another admin deleted it such because it looked unreadable-- but if one looked at the code, the appears that it was merely it was peculiarly formatted as a series of small boxes, and therefore most of the text did not display. A few keystrokes would have taken care of that, but it's not an unreasonable error for you or him to have made.
The other reasons are every one of them wrong, and in fact it is logically impossible for any article , no matter how bad, to meet all of them.
2.You listed it as no content. It had content.
3.You listed it as "no context" It was clear if you read the text what it was about.
4.You listed it as p promotional Tho written by an obvious COI , it was not promotional.
5.You listed it as vandalism. It was not--vandalism is a deliberate intent to injure the encyclopedia.. This is a particularly serious error for you to have made--we reserve the word "vandalism " for when it really applies and never use it for any good faith effort to make an article. Otherwise it's an insult to the contributor
6. You listed it as patent nonsense, which it was not--the words in the boxes made sense.
7. You listed it as "no significance" The Federal DA for the Eastern District of NY may or may not be notable (I think he probably is), but at the very least it indicates significance.
I have gone over your last 36 hours worth of deletion nominations, and at least 25% of them are quite problematic. This is too high a ratio of errors. I am going to have to insist that before you place a tag on an article you read the appropriate section of WP:Deletion policy and WP:CSD, and be quite sure that it is applicable. And after you place it, look at it again, to see if what the tag says actually applies. I did this for a long time when I started, and still do this occasionally, and I must have worked on several tens of thousands of them by now. . The highest acceptable error rate for deletion in 5%, though most people do it at about 10% when they are getting started at it. That you are still making so many errors is harmful, because it discourage new contributors. One thing I and many good editors find helpful is not to do NPP for more than 5 or so articles at a time. DGG ( talk ) 03:40, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. As you may recall, I have considerable concerns about your tendency to indiscriminately tag articles for speedy deletion (see archives of this page). You made a severe error by tagging the recently created article on Andrew Maloney for deletion. Certainly, it appeared to have been created by an editor close to the subject, and this did indeed raise concerns about a potential conflict of interest. However, it would have been much better to have merely marked the article as such, rather than starting it down path to speedy deletion, because even a cursory google should have told you that Andrew Maloney does indeed have an excellent claim to notability. If you had done your homework, you would have quickly realised that he served as US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and served as chief prosecuting attorney in the high-profile case that took down John Gotti, and is a recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service, which put him in the top tier of public prosecutors. This article clearly should not have been deleted, but tagged for improvement and review.
- Your continued overbearing overuse of inappropriate tags is disruptive. Please find some other outlet for your energies. Thank you. RomanSpa (talk) 03:52, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Word to the wise...
[edit]I'm not sure if there was any irony intended, but TAGBOMBING as you did here is not very helpful. Usually, a couple, or few at most, are sufficient. Cheers.- MrX 01:30, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
policy wording
[edit]Please do not change wording of the WP:CSD policy without prior consensus, considering its importance as a policy where the exact wording is critical and has been relied on and interpreted in great detail for many years. Not that your change was wrong, but this is not something to tinker with, or be bold about. I thought it better to revert it. I wouldn't myself attempt to make any changes there however trivial without previous discussion and clear consensus at WT:CSD. DGG ( talk ) 06:16, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion : January Thompson (Musician)
[edit]Hi there. I would like to re-post a modified version of the text in an effort to reach the encyclopaedic threshold. Is there a better approach than to just re-create the page and see if the new text matches criteria, or should be created as a test page for the interim (and if so, how?)
TIA Brainwhistle — Preceding undated comment added 22:00, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
- Okay ask User:DGG. He is an administrator and maybe he will answer your question, because I don't really know. --Mr. Guye (talk) 22:37, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Brainwhistle (talk · contribs), the deleted article was 1/ made up almost entirely of quotes from her talking about herself , and 2/ praise of her work. It also showed signs of being 3/copied from an external site. None of those 3 is acceptable. In any case, the minimal standard for an article is meeting at least one standard in WP:MUSBIO. I'm not an expert in her field, but I don't see that she has met any of those requirements. Until you can show by references from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, but not blogs or press releases, that she has met those requirements, there's no point trying to write an article. Hi there, just asking out of curiosity: Why the deletion nomination? --Axolotl Nr.733 (talk) 12:58, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- The article had lacked WP:RS, which is a requirement for WP:GNG. --Mr. Guye (talk) 17:35, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Guye -- at AfD, as the nominator you have to first do a wp:before search. If proper sourcing exists, even if it is not in the article you should not nominate the article. --Epeefleche (talk) 17:38, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

- @Werldwayd:Okay. Though I hope you realize that I only tagged your article for needing more verification. I didn't tag it for deletion.
Going too fast
[edit]Hello Mr. Guye - your CSD request here was only 4 minutes after the article was started, and was simply too soon. Absent active vandalism, I suggest that you refrain from tagging for at least half an hour to give the article creator enough time to actually create the article. [edit]I have declined your nomination of User:Skatoulaki/Narrows Center for the Arts (now moved to Draft:Narrows Center for the Arts) under Gll, exclusively promotional. This is a draft that has been submitted for review via AfC; as such, there is nothing to be gained from speedy deleting it, and the encyclopedia may lose the eventual article resulting from the creator working with AfC reviewers to make it acceptable, which is why we have AfC. Please do not speedy delete user space drafts, especially if they have been submitted for AfC review, unless there is an urgent reason to do so - such as an attack page. In any case, this draft is not exclusively promotional. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:44, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

- Greetings. I posted this on the Miscellany for deletion page, but in case you aren't monitoring it, I'll reiterate the message here. This is a sandbox site for a student learning to use/edit Wikipedia. Here is our course page so you can learn more about the project User:Drdemartino/PR Sum 2013. She copy and pasted content from the S. G. K site in order to practice editing it in the sandbox, before actually making edits. Is there something wrong with this technique? It was recommended to me by our campus ambassador, but perhaps I did something wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Drdemartino (talk) 23:30, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Theatre Annual is an Important Academic Journal
[edit]This page should not be speedy deleted because...[edit] This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --Crwier (talk) 19:23, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
This is an important academic journal, probably the 4th most important journal in the field of theatre and performance studies after Theatre Journal, Theatre Survey, TDR (journal). The information should remain online as a resource for scholars looking for 1) places to publish their work and 2) sources for research. It has the same information as Theatre Journal, which has been on Wikipedia for some time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crwier (talk • contribs) 19:26, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Crwier: I'm afraid you did not address the reason for the deletion nomination. I nominated it for deletion because it appears to be there solely to promote the subject, not because it was unnoteworthy. Wikipedia has policies that demand a neutral point of view in articles. I have reduced the deletion urgency to an Afd, so that you can make your case to other editors. --Mr. Guye (talk) 19:44, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Trisotech Text
[edit]Hey, regarding the draft of the Trisotech's page, could you please give some guidance for its approval? What would be the best way to tone down the wording so it sounds more informative. It is not, by any means, made to be promotional but more informative. What changes should be made to be able to keep this page and for it to be considered for approval and live posting? Thank you. Scrat55 (talk) 14:05, 23 July 2014 (UTC) Scrat55
- @Scrat55: The biggest reason why it looks like an advertisement is that your draft goes into intricate detail when describing the services the company provides. This makes it appear like you are trying to promote the company's services, and therefore imply that the company does great things and can help the reader. For more, see WP:Neutral point of view for advice on neutrality. Mr. Guye (talk) 19:13, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Mr. Guye: Hey thank you for the comments. I've read the article you suggested and others suggested by another suer who wrote on my page. I just reformatted and completely overhauled the text to make it have a nPOV and to lessen the detailed description of the services. Please check it out if you can to see if it was a good edit and if the deletion can be lifted. Thank you. Scrat55 (talk) 19:19, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Scrat55

David C. Major new entry
[edit]Mr. Guye - I 'd like to discuss your rapid deletion of the David C. Major bio. Your reasoning is that it's 'promotional' rather than encyclopedic. well, i'm new to this, so perhaps there is a way of wording this differently, because it is a nuanced difference in my view, since i'm not a journalist but an engineer. I simply took what information I was able to get my hands on about David Major, as well as my long association with him and his work, and pieced together a rather well-balanced biography of the man and his influence on my profession - which is quite substantive.
My entry for David C. Major was spurred by a recent wiki article (in which I am mentioned in passing) on "Shared Vision Planning". you will fiond David Major's name there, as he was one of the original practitioners of an evolving planning process back in the late 1960's, which culminated in 'shared vision planning'. I was there alongside him for all those years, working with the Corps of Engineers, implementing his ideas. he was an academician - i was a practitioner. I know for a fact, that we all owe David major a great deal for his ability to turn theoretical insights into practical applications.
so, I'd appreciate it greatly, if you could help me turn the 'promotional' style into an encyclopedic accounting. Dr Major most certainly deserves to be recognized in Wiki. There are very few people left who have had such a tangible impact on the profession of water resources planning - all the dams, flood control systems, irrigation syystems and water supply planning and design of the nation have chnaged dramatically since the 1970's as a consequence of Dr Majors contributions.
