What should my position be...
Hi Sarah, what do you think my position should be on here, as this is complicated by the fact that I approved the article through AfC. Then that is further complicated by the fact that Wikirob78's tried to ask me to vote keep here and has been told off by ConcernedVancouverite on his talk page. I don't want to upset Wikirob or ConcernedVancouverite (the deletion nominator). What should I do? Thanks jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:41, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Jcc! I'm flattered you'd seek my advice. I'm going to be honest, here is what I would do: if Wikipedians are trying to persuade me to vote one way or the other, or I have been told off/trolled, or I have been involved in approving in article on AfC, here is what I do: not be involved in the deletion discussion. Wikipedia causes me enough drama, that I don't want to lose sleep, so I'd suggest either removing the discussion from your watchlist, telling them that you are disconnecting yourself from the discussion, or monitor it and see if others make good arguments and be persuaded by on other people than the one's that have been talking to you. I hate drama, so try to avoid the drama llama so you can keep on feeling good about what you contribute.
- Also, you assumed good faith on the offline resources, I would have approved it also. So, just sit back, relax, and let someone else handle it - and don't feel bad about having approved it from AfC. It happens that sometimes the stuff we approve gets AfD'd. Thanks for all you do - and I hope you don't mind my honesty :) SarahStierch (talk) 16:45, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll follow your advice and thanks for the quick reply! I'll now go back to my Wikibreak, jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:57, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for reviewing the article. I was going through another Wikipedia page on http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Seattle_Youth_Garden_Works on Seattle Youth Garden Works. I went through all the content and web citations and am not sure how that has notability. In my unbiased opinion Seattle Works is a notable and growing organization that is connecting the youth and millennial generation to improve Seattle and Washington in a way like no other. The approach they engage the community is different and people need to know more about this and get involved.
- Hi. I went ahead and tagged that article as having issues - lacking citations. I did some research on it and they are notable, they are mentioned significantly in multiple reliable sources. Remember: WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS but that doesn't matter - each article is individual and with 4 million articles on Wikipedia we can't keep track of them all. The other organization - again, other stuff exists - and the submitted article lacked significant coverage in multiple reliable sources being used in the submission. It doesn't matter if an organization has a good mission or if they want more people involved - they have to pass the WP:NOTABILITY guidelines for organizations that Wikipedia has set after 10 years of being around so not everyone and everything gets an article. Cheers! SarahStierch (talk) 23:42, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
WildStar
I'm bringing this subject to you, since you were the one that deleted the article. I'm not affiliated with Carbine Studios, just a fan of their work. I would like you to clarify why was the page WildStar (video game) deleted. Like you can see in the Wildstar disambiguation page, the page was about "WildStar (video game), an MMORPG video game developed by Carbine Studios". I cannot recall the original contents of the page, but I don't think they were that "unambiguous advertising or promotion". And even so, isn't there some kind of notice to add to the page so it could be better reworded instead of having to recreate the whole page again? Anyway, hope you can answer my questions. Thank you. --Sekuiyatalk 01:46, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- Just to chime in, I've kick-started this discussion at the video games wikiproject in light of this amount of available sourcing. I don't know what the original article was like, so it's entirely possible it failed WP:RS/WP:N, or was poorly written, but hopefully the responsible wikiproject can rectify the issue. Best, Gazimoff 02:31, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- It looks like someone already made the article again. Don't be surprised if someone notices and shakes this up at deletion discussion. WildStar (video game). I'm disconnected from it, and was just doing my job as an admin. Generally things without reliable sources and extensive explanations on how the games work are considered advertising, hence why it was deleted. Please check out WP:GNG and also stop by the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games to get some help on how games are determined to end up on Wikipedia and how they are often formatted and written about on wiki. Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani page
Hi Sarah, I've given lot of citations for Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani page, why is it declined, could you please where we are going wrong. I've the full references and articles on him.
Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani (talk) 06:10, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. The footnotes you used (references) are not reliable secondary sources. You can read more about those here: WP:RELIABLESOURCES. Therefore the article can't be on Wikipedia. Also, if you are the subject of the article, you are writing an autobiography, therefore you should stop editing the article. If you are notable enough, someone will eventually write the article about you, or you can request an article about yourself here: Wikipedia:Requested articles. I don't review articles a second time if I am concerned that they won't be able to be accepted, I fear that with yours this time. So I'll let someone else stop by and review it. Feel free to stop by the Teahouse if you need help by visiting: WP:TEAHOUSE. Thanks! SarahStierch (talk) 15:46, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing my submission. I sought help from other editors as to what exactly could have caused the article submission to be declined. The editors gave me some advice which I have been working on and also they told me to discuss it with you. I have gone through the article and removed some references, and adding others from national sites that give the article more credibility. Is there any chance you could tell me exactly what you saw and didn't like and possibly give me some ideas to improve upon it? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Denied Gerry Campbell Page
Sarah,
Thanks for taking a look at my page and letting me know what needs to get fixed. The notes that we received were that the references needed to be out of his control to be reliable sources. I went back and changed all but two references to more credible sources (PC World, Wall Street Journal, Tech Zulu, etc.). Are there anything other aspects that you could advise me on so that the page doesn't get another denied outcome? Thanks for your time,

Declined Page - XPLR Prods
Hi Sarah,
Thanks very much for your comments and referrals to the appropriate links. While you are right that many of the primary links do not mention XPLR Productions by name, they do document the XPLR films that are distributed worldwide on the various services, Hulu, etc. The Amazon listings do name XPLR Productions as the production company, and the IMDb listings do as well. (I was informed yesterday by someone else, on a different matter, that IMDb is not a reliable source. Could you please verify? I would be surprised if that were true, as IMDb is the only reliable source for film credits. But please advise.)
I think we have documented every assertion of fact. As to the Golden Rule, I think the meaningful role that XPLR Productions has in the distribution of documentaries online, as well as the worldwide distribution of its first three films, should merit a listing in Wikipedia. These films include Emmy nominees and the winners of many international film festival awards. XPLR Productions distributes three films that Mens Journal magazine called among the top 20 adventure films of all time. There is a substantive Wikipedia entry for Snagfilms, XPLR's partner; indeed, XPLR Productions helped launch Snagfilms as one of its first content partners, bringing to Snagfilms these three films among the 24 documentaries it was distributing online in 2008 and continues to distribute.
With regard to the lack of news coverage, as a measure of independent verification, there are ample news stories about Snagfilms, Hulu and EPIX, among the networks where the public can watch XPLR Productions' films. I believe the fact that these three major companies, along with Comcast's Xfinity, and the others mentioned and footnoted in the text, have contracted to stream and download XPLR Productions' films, should meet the standard of reliable independent, third party confirmation. I would value these business affirmations more than random and not necessarily footnoted articles in the media. But I look forward to your comments.
Xplr2 (talk) 02:29, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm on vacation and I won't be online for most of the next two weeks. Sadly, if the subject itself - XPLR - isn't mentioned significantly in multiple reliable secondary sources then it does not meet our general notability guidelines. We've had those policies in place for 10 years, and exceptions aren't made for it. And yes, IMDB is not a reliable source - it is a crowdsourced website where anyone can change the information - just like Wikipedia - and that includes the companies listed on it. Sadly, no matter how meaningful something is to you, or me, it if doesn't pass our general notability guidelines it does not merit a Wikipedia article at this time. It might be best for you to perhaps improve articles about the films that XPLR is involved with, versus writing an XPLR article right now. It might just be WP:TOOSOON.
In regards to SnagFilms - we know that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, however, each article is an individual article and that's what matters. There are over 4 million articles on Wikipedia and tons of crap. Sadly, we don't have enough volunteers to go around and get rid of or clean up the crap (that's why we need you! :) ) What makes the SnagFilms article different than yours (at least, when I looked at it) is that SnagFilms is talked about extensively in multiple reliable sources. There are entire articles in major news publications written about SnagFilms. That's what establishes notability. FEel free to resubmit for another opinion (which is always a good thing), and I encourage you to stop by the Teahouse, a place I created on Wikipedia to help new editors like yourself find easy and honest help. I'm on vacation so I might not be around that much - and besides, a second opinion is important.
I know Wikipedia can be frustrating, but, we have policies in line to make sure not everyone or everything has an article. I adore my grandma, and she was a well known local philanthropist, but, no one wrote books about her or covered her in the newspapers - and no matter how many society mentions I have her, she's not notable enough to have a Wikipedia article. So alas...I must write my own book about her! :) So it can be frustrating. THanks for your contributions and I wish I didn't have this gene to be so damn honest with new editors, but, I'd rather tell you the truth then have you submit an article and have it deleted! Review for Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/World Development Foundation.
Dear Reviewer,
I find that you have found that the references are not very good. I have given a lot of references from News Papers of repute in India. Certain references are about President, where his books/articles to highly reputed publications have been referred. I saw the guidelines which says that self written books / publications can not be referred. That being the guideline, do you want me to remove all such references. Pl. help.
Rupalisharma (talk) 11:21, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Rupalisharma. It's a good idea to remove any sources created by the organization or organizations/people associated with them. SOmetimes you can use it sparingly - just to cite when an organization was founded perhaps, or who the current director/president/whatever is, but, sparingly - not to cite an entire article. You can also get a second opinion at the Teahouse, a place I started on Wikipedia to help new editors like yourself. You can visit it by clicking here. Thanks for your contributions! Confused about the WDL project
Hi Sarah, I am a not very frequent Wikipedia editor with particular interests in African history and related subjects, and more particularly southern Africa, South Africa and Swaziland, but also slavery related things and also general historical topics in the U.S. and Europe. I only saw your notice from the end of May just now on my talk page.
Having tried to figure out the WDL project from the links provided, and the pages, I regret to say I find them mostly pretty unhelpful. When I look at the Africa of "to do" I am not really sure where the topics came from. They appear pretty random and not for the most part priorities in terms of what I would expect say the Wikiproject Africa might say. Are the topics selected with reference to the items available on the WDL site?
There is no explicit point that says "Connect to WDL here" -- there is a poorly marked "external link" which I eventually found. The WDL interface itself is hard to navigate and I cannot figure out how to get past the first page of items when more than a page worth are listed.
Looking at the items, it seems to me that they would primarily be for illustration. In relation to southern Africa a cursory look showed a couple of books, one semi-fictional book on Swaziland, and one very old ethnography/history of the Sotho people ("Basuto") of Lesotho ("Basutoland"), neither of which are secondary sources of the sort needed for citation in Wikipedia.
Would you agree with that assessment, that mainly the WDL items would be used to illustrate relevant articles?
I also wonder if the project might do better to encourage people to explore the resources of the contributing libraries in addition to what is on the WDL site. It is pretty disappointing, again I am sorry to say -- I know that just the LOC has much more stuff on Africa digitized. Is it still in a pilot phase?
thanks for considering these questions, Chris Lowe Portland, Oregon USA Chris Lowe (talk) 01:51, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi Sarah. I'm afraid your "disambiuation" at that article actually accomplished sweet Fanny Adams (if you'll excuse the awful pun). The link you added merely redirects to the article it already pointed at. In fact, you simply undid my edit from a couple of months ago ~ here ~ in which i pointed out that Brain fever is exactly the correct place to go, as it explains that the term was used in Victorian literature and general usage. You might want to undo your edit, or i can, if you like. Cheers, LindsayHello 23:00, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

Your proposed deletion of Mount Morris Junior/Senior High School
Hi SarahStierch, I removed the templates you added to this article for the following reasons: 1) the article was referenced with two entries in the NCES database. 2) This article, like all articles on secondary schools would survive deletion requests. Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes#Education. The hope is that once these stubs are created, that later other editors will flesh out the articles.

I was hoping you could take a quick look at the article and provide additional feedback before I resubmit it for creation. Clayton Zelin article relist help
{{helpme}} I had written an article Clayton Zelin, but you nominated it for deletion because, MLS reserves and Professional Indoor league were not seen as a pro league for some reason. Clayton Zelin has now signed with Phoenix FC in the USL PRO league as #7. IRC office hours for wiki-mentors and Snuggle users
Hi. We're organizing an office hours session with the Teahouse to bring in mentors from across the wiki to try out Snuggle and discuss it's potential to support mentorship broadly. The Snuggle team would appreciate it if you would come and participate in the discussion. We'll be having it in #wikimedia-office connect on Wed. July 17th @ 1600 UTC. See the agenda for more info. --EpochFail(talk • work), Technical 13 (talk), TheOriginalSoni (talk) 18:46, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Your contributions on ro.wikipedia.org
Hello,
I've recently noticed your constructive contributions to our project and asked a sysop to change your user group. As of this morning (whatever that might mean to someone in another time zone:D) you are autopatrolled on ro.wiki, so your contributions don't have to have to be reviewed anymore.
I'd like to make a single suggestion; when you add a new section to an article the right order of the last sections is:
- Note/Referințe (widely used interchangeably for individual references)
- Bibliografie (general references),
- Vezi și (see also other Wikipedia articles)
- Legături externe (external links)
Regards, Mihai --Hype supper (talk) 10:17, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Mihai! Wow, thank you so much for the update! I appreciate that and I'm glad my contributions are valued, it means a lot to me. And thanks for the reference breakdown. Just when I think I've got it, I clearly don't :) So this really really helps! See you on ro.wiki! SarahStierch (talk) 18:14, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Woolworth Building
Hi. I have reverted your recent change to the skyscraper article. Looking at the Woolworth Building article and this list from the CTBUH, you can see multiple reliable sources have the building's height as 792 ft (241 m). Perhaps the original source used by the WDL was incorrect - they certainly got the ft to m conversion wrong. Astronaut (talk) 12:47, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for July 27
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Geographical Institute of Weimar, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page German (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Help Project newsletter : Issue 7
The Help Project Newsletter
Issue VII - August 2013
Hello from Hong Kong, and the Wikimania DevCamp! Just a quick bulletin to update everyone on recent goings-on:
- There was a Wikimedia blog post about our experience at the Open Help Conference.
- Based on discussions at the Open Help Conference, Seeeko, Ocaasi and the wub have drafted a series of guidelines for writing and improving help pages.
- There is now also a system in place for assessing help pages by quality and importance. See Wikipedia:Help Project/Assessment for more details and the two scales we are using.
- A project collaboration has been started, the first one is focusing on the above mentioned Assessment. Discussions about this are welcome at Wikipedia talk:Help Project#Current collaboration (and the next).
- Wikipedia:New contributors' help page/questions was merged into Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions
- A couple of other mergers have been proposed:
- Help:Introduction to talk pages and Help:Introduction to policies and guidelines have both been overhauled and updated to use the new tutorial design.
Suggestions for future issues are welcome at Wikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter.
If you don't wish to receive this newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit the participants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name.

Wikimania London suggestion
I'm enjoying Wikimania vicariously through your tweets and the live feed. While watching the live feed, a thought occurred to me. The single camera has to choose between a tight shot of the speaker, a tight shot of the presentation, or something in between. I'd like it if there were two live feeds, one a tight shot of the speaker, and the other a tight shot of the presentation materials. Obviously, this applies only when the setup is a single speaker, and a media such as PowerPoint or a video, but that covers a number of presentations. With a panel, such as the board, a single camera which pans to the speaker is probably fine.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because one of your tweets left me with the impression that you will be involved in London. (I checked this page, but didn't see an obvious person to contact.)--SPhilbrick(Talk) 17:05, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yup :) I will be involved. A good place to drop this would be here! That's where brainstroming is going, so I don't lose track of this...! I hope you'll be there, right? SarahStierch (talk) 06:12, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Question about formatting error
Hi Sarah - you once kindly offered your help with an article I was working on -. Unfortunately, I think I created a weird gap space when I was editing Chuck Philips, the journalist while trying to add a reference. There's a weird space now between the bio box and two sections of the bio. I'd be most grateful if you could give me any insight into how this happened so I can fix it. Thanks so muchScholarlyarticles (talk) 21:06, 23 August 2013 (UTC).
- Hi there. You can take a look at the formatting wikimark up, but, instead of hitting enter and adding two :: before each award, I just listed them in a row and put <br/> between each award, that provides a break, so they appear underneath each other. So now you can copy and paste that method - that's how I learned how to do infobox formatting, by copying and pasting other similar style infoboxes. Oh, and just a tip - you can link to a Wikipedia article by typing two brackets before and after the article name - like this [[Chuck Philips]] and it comes out looking like Chuck Philips. That way, whoever you ask for help or want to share your work with doesn't have to search for it, they can just click. And please don't forget to ask for help at the Teahouse. I'm frequently traveling and not often able to provide timely responses via my talk page, and you can generally get a response within minutes there. Thanks for coming by and for editing Wikipedia! Mounds etc
You're quite welcome! I knew nothing about you (I vaguely remember seeing your username before, but only in passing) and thus had no clue about your Indiana connexion. My interest in these sites is because of their National Register status; I'm not particularly interested in sites that don't have historic designation, unless there's something unusual (e.g. with the Ridgeway Kame, near where I grew up) that makes me interested in them. I've done my best to get pictures for sites, as you've perhaps seen; are you familiar with List of archaeological sites on the National Register of Historic Places in Indiana? Few enough of those have articles because I've not had time and nobody else has had interest, but I can supply hard-to-find documentation on most of them if you want to start writing on them. Some have articles (for example, I enjoyed writing the Rockhouse Cliffs Rockshelters article, especially because my photo of a friend helps to give viewers a sense of the size of the site), but comparatively few. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to History of slavery may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.
