OpenStack page edit

Hi, I reinserted the "aka O~S". I found it useful to know that sometimes is shorten that way on IRCs. Summary change

Noted. I will check and see how to modify that because the edit summary is automated by the common.js interface on the script. Thank you for letting me know. In regard to the American and international sports figures that I have already done, would you be opposed to me continuing the format that I have already used? If so, that is no problem at all and I will look at creating a script for that summary. I was basing all of that off of a previous user using the script for editing the formats. Ok. Thank you for the quick reply. I did recognize that there were some inconsistencies on some of the non-American articles based on users who had added the change in the past. I did do some research toward the end of the international formatting. Unless blatantly obvious what goes there, I will hold off on those. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). The 10,000 Challenge

I don't believe in routinely adding every single new article I create to that list. Political Blind Date isn't really a long or detailed article, it was a case of "I can find enough sourcing to get something in place because it gets over a notability criterion, but I cannot yet find enough sourcing to really make the article anything more than a basic stub" — but the purpose of The 10,000 Challenge is to highlight quality rather than quantity. So I only add my new article creations there if I'm able to do much better than the bare minimum (e.g. Chester Knight), and not if all I can do is "this exists, here's why it's notable, the end" (e.g. Political Blind Date). Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

Mississauga

Hi there. I noticed that way back you created Template:Communities of Mississauga. There is also Template:Mississauga, which lists "neighbourhoods and subdivisions". Could these templates be merged, or the neighbourhood information be moved to your template? @Magnolia677: Perhaps we should have a broader discussion about this at Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board, given that there are a number of other such templates I created around the same time (King, Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Whitchurch–Stouffville, and those by other editors, such as Template:LangleyNeighbourhoods; there may be others). BTW: I don't think subdivisions merit inclusion in the template - we should use the neighbourhoods defined by the city (see this, for example), and I'm not sure Ebenezer belongs on either template. WOL includes message from smartphone

Although this is a really old edit, and it is probably true that a smartphone can send a WOL packet it seems an unlikely use especially since "WOL is an Ethernet ..." and most smartphones don't use ethernet.

@DGerman: I've used one called "Wake on LAN" from f-droid.org (version 1.5, net.mafro.android.wakeonlan) though it doesn't seem to be in the current repository. There's also Duorem. Here are a bunch of WOL apps on Aptoide (I don't use Aptoide apps). I don't use Google's Play Store or Apple apps, but it should be easy to find such an app in those app stores. Here's a DuckDuckGo search for "wake on lan app".

BTW: smartphones have WiFi capability, which uses IEEE 802.11, which in turn communicates with ethernet. (My edit didn't specify that these apps use mobile networks.) Mindmatrix 14:29, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Coaches Corner

It isn't really disingenuous when Coaches Corner is a Canadian program and when writing out dates using a mix of words and numbers, Canadian English uses Month Day, Year. See MOS:DATETIES for more information. Canada only uses DMY when using numerical only dates. That being said its not something I care enough about to argue about. @Djsasso: First: I phrased my edit summary comment much more strongly than I had intended, as it was apparent that your edit was intended as a positive change given your spelling fixes etc. Note, though, that the MOS:DATETIES you link to states "Articles related to Canada ... may use either format", and per WP:RETAIN should not be changed. Such changes happen with sufficient regularity to articles I write or that are on my watchlist that at times it irritates me, leading to the tone in my edit summary. Ok, just seemed harsh to me so I wanted to explain myself so its all good I get it, I often have to do the same with Canadian vs American spelling in Canadian hockey articles. I have always taken the either format comment in DATETIES to be an accounting for the fact that typically in Canada we use MDY when using words and DMY when using numbers. So you could see a Canadian article with either format depending on if the author is using words or numbers for the date. -DJSasso (talk) 13:21, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
