Hi. This is Hilary Wolpert Silver I see you last edited the Wikipedia page on Predicasts. I was so happy to see it there! I tried to get it created, but it didn't work since I didn't know how to show I had the rights to quote sources. Do you want to add sources, such as the Online magazine article about Predicasts and my dad or the book he and my sister-in-law wrote, The Economics of Information? I couldn't get the rights to the book. The publisher was bought out but the acquiring publisher didn't acquire the rights to the book, which wasn't well-written. — Preceding unsigned comment added by H w silver (talkcontribs) 13:30, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Ellen Walker Craig-Jones, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 00:40, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:57, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan tag on dab pages

[edit]

Please can you stop adding orphan tags to disambiguation pages? Wikipedia:Orphan#On disambiguation pages says that dab pages shouldn't be tagged with orphan, as they shouldn't have links to them- pages shouldn't be linking to dab pages, so therefore almost every single dab page will be an orphan. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:09, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Michaelwallace22, I actually came to your talk page to say something similar to what Joseph2302 wrote above - the same goes for set index articles (i.e. surname articles). Thank you! Jmertel23 (talk) 20:01, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that Jmertel23! I thought that since I had historically seen list articles labeled for orphan tags that the same would apply to set index and surname articles. Reading back over it now though, I see it and appreciate you letting me know! Won't happen again.

A fairy cake for you!

Thanks! I had removed the Seymour name from the storm index tag because it appeared to not be doing anything - should these names be left in place even if that is so?

Yes, these names should remain on the set index tag, and are placed there so the entry is able to be listed in alphabetical order at Category:Set indices on storms. CycloneYoris talk! 01:15, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is [this version] of the article "unsourced"? Thanks, Luc "Somethingorother" French 17:14, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Michaelwallace22, I just saw this edit of yours. I reverted it, because intentional links to disambiguation pages (such as Controller) by convention always link to a redirect ending in (disambiguation). How and why is explained at WP:INTDAB. Don't worry, even the most experienced editors often don't know this! Lennart97 (talk) 08:27, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dab pages

[edit]

Hi and thank you for your edits to dab pages. Just a few notes: there's no need to add {{long comment}} as dab pages are already excluded from the short pages report, and there's a bot that removes any such instances of the template. Also, the first line of a dab page typically starts with something like "X may refer to:", and that works most of the time, but it may not always be appropriate if what follows is something other than a list of topics in the usual format. At Chankiri, for example, the term doesn't refer to a name or an alternative spelling, it is that name and it is that spelling. – Uanfala (talk) 15:29, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dab project pages

[edit]

Since this page wasn't a disambiguation page, I removed the disambiguation project tag. Let me know if this was in error.

you're saying that 1957 in NASCAR is not a disambiguation page? What do you consider it to be then? — Ched (talk) 01:18, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[2] - i would consider to be a list/set index article similar to those described here, and i should have replaced the disambiguation project with a list project tag, since the three topics listed in the article are related (and i can't foresee a unrelated element being added).

Hmmm .. well, that's an answer to consider. I can understand your thinking now at least. Not sure I completely agree, but I'll think on it. I'll run it by a few folks, and bring it up to the NASCAR group. Depending on the year, I can foresee other items. Along with the multitude of series in NASCAR over the years (which would be related as you say), there may also be things such as how safety changed that year, or how various manufacturer changes affected the season. Do you want to be pinged to such discussions? And I do appreciate you responding the way you have without being defensive or rude. Pleasure to meet you by the way. — Ched (talk) 06:36, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, but the way, I see you've started using the edit summary feature. That will help avoid misunderstandings in the future I think. Cheers. — Ched (talk) 06:44, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

April 2021

[edit]
  • Michael - I'm concerned that you are going around and just making edits simply for the sake of making edits. Adding a period here, and removing a legitimate bad template there aren't bad things in and by themselves. But I'm seeing a lot "caution" and "please don't" type posts here on your talk. Please think about what you're doing, and why you're doing it. I'd like to see you go back and revert a lot of your DAB removals, especially the ones where you don't add a corresponding SIA tag. I'd also mention that DAB pages can be multiple things, so there's no problem with a DAB page ALSO being say a part of {{WikiProject Anthroponymy}}. There's no need to remove one to add the other. .— Ched (talk) 01:07, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns

[edit]

Michael, as several other people have already said here, I too am concerned that some of your edits don't appear to be constructive and seem to be made simply for the sake of making edits. Look for example at what you've done here: you replaced text that made perfect sense, with text that doesn't. In English, "football player and manager" makes perfect sense, whereas "footballer and manager" doesn't - the former means that a person is both a football player and a football manager, whereas the latter leaves the reader wondering what on Earth was meant. You've done a large amount of edits like that one.

Moreover, you now seem to have taken to making the same changes as anonymous IPs (68.234.129.36, 2601:CB:4001:4030:F02D:8FE6:AC75:DBF0). I'm sure you can appreciate that that is not a constructive way forward.

I do think that many of your contributions are useful - I'm just asking that when you make each edit please ask yourself whether the edit improves the article or not. Thank you. Dr. Vogel (talk) 14:27, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sudbury Augustinian Priory requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

no evidence that an Augustinian priory existed in Sudbury (see Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Humanities#Sudbury_Augustinian_Priory?)

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.

See also sections

[edit]

Hello, Michaelwallace22. Please note for future reference that 'see also' sections on disambiguation and name pages are for entries that are phonetically similar as well as spelling alterations, nicknames, or full versions. For instance, a see also section on 'Britain (disambiguation)' may look like this:

  • Brit (disambiguation)
  • Britan (disambiguation)
  • Britaine (disambiguation)
  • Great Britain (disambiguation)

And not like this:

  • Britai (disambiguation)
  • Fritain (disambiguation)
  • Ritain (disambiguation)

Adding entries like Benson to Renson or Danni to Dannin misuses the see also section on disambiguation pages and name lists. On dab/name pages, 'see also' is intended to list entries that are very closely similar to the page's name and can be confused with it or has some sort of relation with it. For instance, 'Rensen' or 'Dannon' make more sense to be added to Renson and Dannin rather than the previous two. Thanks. Waddles 🗩 🖉 19:16, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Waddles! Thanks for the tip - I'll make that change in the future. I had been thinking that potential misspellings would also be included (hence someone who accidentally types in Renson instead of Benson might want to navigate directly to Benson), but I see the difference now. Thanks! Michaelwallace22 (talk) 20:37, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Check out de-orphaned Biography article

[edit]

Greetings Michaelwallace22, For article Alemseged Assefa today I successfully deorphaned. Here are the steps I follow for most Bio articles.

  1. Check "Find link" - for this one, found Actor with same name, not banker.
  2. Check "What links here" - Nothing
  3. Did websearch (Startpage) & found Ethiopia article with this person.
  4. Added sentence with cite for fact in article into the bio.
  5. Added this person to "List of Ethiopians" with cite.
  6. Removed the Alemseged Assefa article Orphan tag.

Thought to share these steps with you as they apply to most biographies, and to Orphan articles in general. Cheers, JoeNMLC (talk) 19:51, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Survivor contestant redirects

[edit]

Thanks for creating those redirects for recent Survivor players. I do have a question about some that already exist that you made. I think all previously exisiting contestant redirects go to List of Survivor (American TV series) contestants instead of their season page. Would you be opposed if I edited the ones you already made to redirect there instead of the season page. This is just for simplicity purposes, especially for players that have played multiple times. Red Director (talk) 22:10, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense. I hadn’t checked all of them thoroughly and had seen Sophie Clarke directed to her initial season, but realize that is likely due to her winning. Feel free to change those. Michaelwallace22 (talk) 23:14, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
