Your Edit on Dilazak page

Dear Matthew, I appreciate your interest on Dilazak page and grateful for your help in the past for improving its layout and contents. There are few things which require an understanding on your part and the reason for your present perception about different words and terms is probably due to cultural differences. I don't know which country you are from but there must be few things, I won't be able to comment upon merely because I don't fully understand them as compared to you. Same is the case here. You have reverted my change of word 'Pashtoon' to 'Afghan'. Now please try to understand that 'Pashtoon' is a person who speaks Pashto language or at least represent the area where Pashto is the Primary language. Whereas, the term 'Afghan' has two meanings. One meaning a person who is citizen of 'Afghanistan'. The other meanings are probably difficult for you to comprehend at the moment. Let me clarify, "Every individual who is Pathan, Pashtoon, Raasha, Kabulee, Pakhtoon or Roheela (Different local names of Afghan people in different parts of Indian sub-continent) from his father's side would be called as 'An Afghan' meaning Afghan is a wholesome word representing every true individual belonging to this particular breed of humans. The Dilazak particularly are settled in mostly non-Pashtoon areas (And they normally don't speak Pashto as well in general) ,therefore, the term 'Pashtoon' does not justify its place here. Hope this helped in clarifying the difference between 'Pashtoon' and 'Afghan'. and if it is so, please change the word to 'Afghan' instead of 'Pashtoon'. Regards Dilazak1 (talk) 07:01, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Mohammad Asif Mohseni

Hello MatthewVanitas. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Mohammad Asif Mohseni, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Please seek consenus on the other article talk page first. If you get consensus, or no response after a week, please rerequest. I'm not confortable this is necessarily uncontroversial. Thank you. GedUK  19:56, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Shia islam table

Dear Matthew thanks for your suggestions for improvement of the table. There was one mistake at diversion point of Sevener which I have corrected, I hope there is no major mistake left as all other things are pretty well clarified in related articles. The color coding also made different to emphasis all diversion from main Shia link. Hope this is better represented figure now. This figure carry lot of information at one glance and very important for understanding Shia Islam. Your further suggestion are welcome, deletion may not help, please help to improve.--Md iet (talk) 06:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Opportunity to comment on Batavia

There is a discussion starting up at Talk:Batavia (disambiguation), that may be of interest to you. The subject is technically a page move discussion, but the purpose of the discussion is to decide where Batavia should redirect. Until earlier today, Batavia redirected to History of Jakarta, but during this discussion, it is redirecting to Batavia (disambiguation). Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your help. HuskyHuskie (talk) 22:41, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

You are receiving this because you are one of the principal editors of one of the articles that is linked to Batavia (disambiguation). This notice is being posted to all of the top three editors of each of these articles (in terms of total edits), with the following exceptions:

  • editors who are blocked
  • anonymous IP editors
  • editors who, despite ranking in the top three of edits to an article, have only a single edit to said article

This is an attempt to be a neutrally-phrased posting in keeping with the principles of WP:CANVASS. If you find anything in the wording or the manner posted to be a violation of that guideline, please notify me at my talk page.

Abullah Aftah

Dear Mathew. First of all I am apologizing for my late reply. As you can see in my contributions, I was completely out because of a problem in real life. Thanks for adding that reference. Removing Abdullah al-Aftah ibn Ja'far al-Sadiq to Abdullah al-Aftah is good. Thanks again for all of your works.--Aliwiki (talk) 22:52, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:00, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. We hope (talk) 18:42, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Ashraf Ali Thanvi.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude2 (talk) 06:06, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Waisa, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.waisa.net/waisa.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Pakistan

PLEASE cite sources otherwise the material will be removed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:39, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm going through Punjab region districts and cleaning them up. I'd love some help. However there are several problems. I agree that most unsourced poorly written material should be removed and them cleaned. However even leaving falling rain is not good enough. It is not a valid source and is up for blacklisting, heaven knows why it hasn't been obliterated yet. The population data and even altitude has shown on many occasions to be grossly inaccurate, like a coastal town in Madagascar was once give as being 360 metres in altitude on falling rain. I am concerned that even most of the altitude figures are false. The only thing about that site which is accurate generally are the coordinates. But in that case far better to use geonames database. Really we ought to be searching in google books and finding a mention of the village in census and using that as a source. The problem is that many of the villages are not mentioned in web or books in reliable sources and we're stuck with all the stubs which are open to badly written materials and lists of non notable people. The discussion of clans in articles to many readers will appear over the top and local POV with no relevance beyond that localization. I understand that clans are important in Pakistan but the majority of them warble on and on without any sources and it seems unnecessary..♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:05, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

See this. Here's a tip. Find some info in google books, see the first source about an event in 1921. Copy the url after you've click on that book and paste it in here. Now click load, it will quickly draw up a full citation. This way you can find scraps of info to add to the articles. I believe if your see 6th and 7th hits on this above google book search you'll see a figure of 488 which is likely the village population. Occaisonally though you'll have to add the page number. I'll link this ref makers and google book link on your user page if that's OK so you can use it for quick reference and help find sources and scraps of info to add to the articles. Even a mention in a census is better than no source/falling rain.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:21, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I've added the ref tools to your user page, hopefully you will find them useful for improving articles. Not every village will get a hit, but yo'd be surprised what you can conjure up by finding scraps from a few old sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I gather you are not grateful for this?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:12, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

WP:CREDO application

I looked at your application; I don't see why you think you don't meet the main criteria. You've got almost 10x as many mainspace edits, created and curated a whole bunch of articles, you're active in several wikiprojects. I think you meet all the criteria. GA/FA articles aren't a requirement, they're one way of meeting that category - project membership is fine for that. In my opinion, you should just move your application up into the main area. Thank you for starting the article Fist Crushing a U.S. Fighter Plane Sculpture and being it's major contributor. However, that does not give you ownership of the article. You stated your opposition to the page move, I've countered. Rather than countering my argument, you are now demanding that others join me so that I can show consensus for my point of view. You can't do that. You either have to engage in the discussion, or show consensus for your point of view.

A tag has been placed on Allen Weiss, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. Nuristan

Stubs have been created for all the districts in Nuristan. I'm not sure that I have all of the synonyms as redirects yet. The NGA GEOnet Names Server doesn't always do a good job on synonyms. AIMS does not seem to have any authority control at the district level, but tends to use a variety of forms of names, my guess is that usage is at the discretion of the individual translator. The Afghanistan Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has redone their website and gotten rid of all of the profile documentation. --Bejnar (talk) 19:27, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Ram Rahim Singh and Dera Sacha Sauda

Dear MathewVanitas, I am trying to briefly make a few points. User Profitoftruth was repeatedly reinstating statements like "crap" for Ram Rahim. But I got blocked and accused of sock puppetry for trying to tone it down. Thats OK! But can I now supply some of the information that you have asked in your version of the article , please. Please check the user page of the article for the information. I do not even wish to edit in the morbid fear of these strong arm tacticians. The second point I wish to make it that Ram Rahim is as revered to his devotees as any other Guru or Prophet is to theirs. So , even while the content should not become advertorial , the proof of the Tehelka expose being false is being removed by the same user repeatedly even though it is cited from an independent media report of the court proceedings. That is from a national newspaper (but in Hindi) and therefore it has to be seen via google translate. I hope you will be able to improve the page with my humble inputs. Best regards, Bandagharka (talk) 03:00, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Spodi

I have removed the prod tag you placed on Spodi because per policy an article that has been discussed at AfD at any time is ineligible for prod. Compliance with policy is the only reason I did this; it should not be interpreted as my endorsement for keeping the article. Yes, I realize that in this case the AfD was 6 years ago and standards have changed since then, but the WP:PROD does not provide a time limit or any other exemptions to this clause. —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:02, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Review of major edit intended for appendage to stub, "7604 Kridsadaporn"

Dear Matthew,

Thanks for your comments - they are valuable to me. I will take your advice and pop by the Astronomy project however my main concern is with the heading, "Discovery and naming" - if you can spare some extra time I would very much appreciate your further input, please.

An editor recently mentioned that Google/translate is not acceptable as a reliable reference in Wikipedia. I have a few Google/translate references in that heading. The suggestion was to not use any reference and "...just cite the Thai language..." - I don't really know what this means. Does it mean just leave those references out and let the reader translate if they want - by their own methods.

I will try to be pin-point clear - the references I'm referring to are [8] and [10] in the draft. That go something like:

Kridsadaporn (กฤษฏาพร, กฤษดาพร)[1] is a Thai name comprising two words; "kridsada" (กฤษฏา)[2] of Sanskrit origin and sometimes Romanized as gritsada, kritsada and often kruetsada however, Thai script rules[3] for Sanskrit borrow-words vowels transcribe it as "krisada", (กฤษดา)[4] while retaining the meaning, "kridsada" (กฤษฏา) {supernatural powers, divine, celestial}Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).(in Thai) of Sanskrit origin and sometimes Romanized as .....

Or must I completely leave out any reference to Google/translate and write:

Thanks for your help - I very much appreciate your input. --NehruR42 15:17, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

I had no idea how to say thank you on my 'Request feedback' (Living Costs and Food Survey) bit so would just like to say thank you for your help. I've amended the footnotes as best I can, although they could possibly still be improved? I had trouble finding non-government articles that actually discuss the survey, however I have added links to news articles re: the survey's annual publication. I have also added in a couple more categories. Could you let me know if it's now ready to go up?

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Becca0706 (talkcontribs) 10:47, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Many thanks and Request for additional feedback

Hi Matthew

I made the changes you suggested. Abandoned pics (as you anticipated for new users) for now due to copyright uncertainties. Some pics on an external link. Could you please have another critical look at the page... again, many thanks for your work and input.

Rollback

I was quite surprised to find you hadn't got it. You have now. I'm not often in the front line, but it does make reverting vandals quicker. I've cleared the backlog of 206.wotsit, leaving one untouched because they seem to have removed the afro themselves! Use rollback cautiously at first - and it won't do mass reversions over several articles (so far as I know...), but it does speed things up. Any queries, ask me and I'll find someone who knows more than I do to answer them... Peridon (talk) 18:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

IN RESPONSE TO Speedy deletion nomination of Queensland Young Greens

Could you please immediately restore this article. It is similar in content to other youth wings such as Young LNP, Young Labor and Young Greens of Sweden. If this article should be deleted, so should there's...

The main source of information came from their facebook site, however, I have now removed that reference and as soon as they have an official website, I will reference this.

Thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakeyboy1989 (talkcontribs) 01:02, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Queensland Young Greens

I have provided two sources for the article as this is all I can currently find.

Can you explain why my article is being deleted, yet others are being accepted such as:

Young LNP: References are all from the political party (LNP = Liberal National Party) ^ http://lnp.org.au/ ^ http://www.youngliberal.org/executive ^ http://www.youngnationals.org.au/

Australian Young Labor: Only one reference from the political website. Another reference about one specific issue at the end of the article ^ "Australian Young Labor". Retrieved 2007-08-15. ^ "Labor's Bloody Rituals Lead to a Dead End". Retrieved 2007-10-21.

Young Greens of Sweden: No References. Listed as a stub - is this different? In that case how do I list my article as a stub?

Here are three comparable articles, similar organisations, exactly the same content and referencing and yet my article is not being approved. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. If I don't agree, is there a way to contest your decision? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakeyboy1989 (talkcontribs) 18:37, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Matthew! I was fixing the instances here on Wikipedia of a misspelling, which is "Nappa" (should be "Napa" per Merriam-Webster, m-w.com -- Nappa is a common misspelling and is not an alternate spelling) -- but I can't figure out how to fix the main-header's spelling on the page called "Nappa." I was of course able to fix the rest of the content. Thanks! Grattan33 (talk) 15:05, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Grattan33

Please take a look

Hello MatthewVanitas, like yourself I am a member of the WikiProject Afghanistan, I have created a few pages related to this project and may I say after a lot of research. One of these is the page Lund Khwar. I can safely say that I have read almost every thing there is to read on Lund Khwar. A user 86.27.185.156 keeps violating wiki rules and my warning. Wiki rules because he is adding irrelevant info about his father to the page and irrelevant because I know the information is useless and not related. I have warned him for the second time. Please give it a look and please advise me what to do next. How are pages semi protected and how are abusers reported to moderators. Thank you. Msrafiq (talk) 20:28, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you Matthew!! your reply was quite helpful, I really appreciate it. Though I love to add referenced backed well researched material to Wiki, I am not quite skilled with the various operating techniques here like reporting vandalism. I will do exactly as you say, Thanx again!!. Msrafiq (talk) 20:48, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

userspace warning templates

Hi- regarding this edit (and others like it), I'm not aware of a requirement that userspace drafts be templated up as if they were an article. In other words, there's no need for a notability template, as a draft isn't subject to the notability guidelines (yet). I do believe the noindex template can be mandated by an admin, but I can't find the documentation for that either. Are you aware of guidelines for userspace template use?

Also, have you considered archiving your talk page? tedder (talk) 15:14, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

You're definitely right that I'm long-overdue for archiving; I need to get around to finally using MizsaBot, so thanks for the poke.
I'm also not totally clear on the use of maintenance templates in Userspace, though I reckoned the engine doesn't auto-remove them. I wouldn't normally be as pushy about it, but the guy explicitly asked for feedback at RfF, has been non-responsive since receiving detailed feedback (and as I recall published before despite being a clear CSD case), so I figured it was good to keep clear about what he needs to publish. At the very least the "userspace draft" tag should stay up in case people googling him drift across it, to make it clear it's not an approved article yet. If I'm coming across as jerkish (I could see that), I can just keep it Watchlisted to make sure the "noindex" and "draft" tags stay up, and that it doesn't move to articlespace before he fixes the Notability issue. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:25, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
If you'd like, I'll set up the archiving, or you can just steal the code on my talk page and modify it slightly.
"googling" it is solved with either the userspace draft (USD) or noindex tag; the USD transcludes noindex, so both aren't required. I didn't know he asked at RfF; considering the lack of response I suppose the USD tag is appropriate. I'll keep it watchlisted for a while also; I came across it because he added a link from mainspace to userspace, which is absolutely forbidden. tedder (talk) 15:34, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Yep, very brief RfF request; posting just your link and no comment is often a bad sign for communications. Also chaps me as a brusque "review for me" rather than "hey, I'm not sure I did footnoting right, can someone take a look at my article about a this rapper?" Also note the username is identical to the subject, so almost definitely a CoI/autobio. I think this case may fall under my favourite (unofficial) WP guideline: Wikipedia:No one cares about your garage band. But I'll be a good sport, post on his Talk to apologise if I came off as being a jerk, and explain to him both what the article needs, and the need to respond to communication on a community effort. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:51, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good. And yes, I agree on both COI and the "crappy myspace band" rationale. Not communicating makes things difficult. tedder (talk) 16:02, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
