Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! March 2015

[edit]

Information icon Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to Metallica (album), without providing a source or establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Thank you. Mlpearc (open channel) 21:13, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to change genres without discussion or sources, as you did at Love (Angels & Airwaves album), you may be blocked from editing. Mlpearc (open channel) 00:19, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you change genre in pages without discussion or sources, as you did at Vengeance Falls. Mlpearc (open channel) 00:21, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Genres

[edit]

As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is built upon reliable sources. This means that you should cite your sources when you add content. Because music genres are especially contentious, it is best that you include a citation whenever you modify music genres. It may seem like this is a bit arbitrary, as the existing genres can sometimes be unsourced, but they are frequently either arrived at by consensus on the talk page or cited later in the article. If you notice that an article lacks citations for the genres, you shouldn't add even more unsourced genres; instead, it would be very helpful if you searched magazines like Rolling Stone or Spin for citations to add to the article. In addition, you really shouldn't create new genres, such as "progressive pop punk", as this is original research. If you'd like to popularize a new term or genre, a blog would be a much better place, as Wikipedia is not the place to promote new ideas. Finally, you should read about our policy about edit warring. If there's a consensus against your edits, you should discuss the changes on the talk page and attempt to persuade the other edits to see your point of view. Blocked

[edit]

Apologies for the short delay. I'm afraid in light of your behaviour, I've blocked you for 72 hours. When the block expires, I expect you to consult with the editors on this page and at venues such as relevant Wikiprojects before making further edits to band genres and the like. I don't wish to sound foreboding or anything, but continuing in the current way will only result in longer blocks, I'm afraid. Nick (talk) 18:44, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

August 2015

Information icon Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. Genres are not to be capitalized per Template:Infobox album#Genre. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on We Don't Need to Whisper. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Binksternet (talk) 20:44, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you change genre in pages without discussion or sources, as you did at Symbolic (Death album). Binksternet (talk) 21:59, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
