User name

[edit]

Did you see User talk:Atheist Alliance of America? Wikipedia is a strange place but many of the procedures are based on common sense. The situation is that an editor is supposed to represent themselves only. One reason for that is that no one here wants to check (and no one here is able to check) whether someone who claims to represent an organization really does. Also, editors should be presenting information neutrally and not presenting the view of an organization. Regardless of the merits of that, organization accounts are routinely blocked.

If you are having trouble getting information fixed in the article (Richard Dawkins Award), please go to the article talk page (Talk:Richard Dawkins Award) and click "new section" at the top and enter a neutral explanation of whatever is the problem. Post your source there and respond to any follow-up without excitement. Getting fixes to stick can take patience although this edit might work because it has a source. Proposed new username Atheist Alliance of America

[edit]

I would like to use proposed new username: markwotan. Sorry I used Atheist Alliance before, I thought, wrongly, that the username was supposed to reflect the article I was editing. Looking back at it, this was a silly assumption. Sorry!!! Thanks Johnuniq. This is regarding making some edits to the the article (Richard Dawkins Award). There were some huge errors in that wikipedia article and I wanted to make sure it was correct. The Atheist Alliance International has NEVER given the Richard Dawkins Award. The award has always been given by the Atheist Alliance of America, as attested by some of the very citings currently on the page itself, pictures, many articles online, their own page, videos on youtube, etc. Not sure why the Atheist Alliance International was even listed here in the first place, maybe cause they sound alike and they were at one time (years before the award started to be given) were the same org. But they split before the RD award was created. I also added some photos owned by me that I am willing to donate to wikipedia. Hope you enjoy. I think that they are not only informative but make the page better. I'll try to find more pics for you. Thanks so much for your help.AtheistAllianceAmerica (talk) 11:25, 25 June 2016 (UTC)markwotan[reply]

To request a change of user name, you need to fill in this form: click this link. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 12:53, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Malcous, form has been completed. I suppose waiting for approval now? AtheistAllianceAmerica (talk) 15:15, 25 June 2016 (UTC)markwotan[reply]

Yes, please wait. If wanted you could make more edits with this user account but frankly that is tempting fate as an administrator may see your activity and block this account per what I said above. Generally for a new user, it is simpler to abandon the unwanted user name and start again by creating a new user name. However, the only way for a new user name to be acknowledged as the author of the edits you have made is for a rename. I'm not sure what happens from your point of view, but I imagine that one day you would try to log on as "AtheistAllianceAmerica" and would find that it gave a generic error message about logon failure. You would then try logging on as "markwotan" with the same password as before, and it would work. You can ask questions at WP:HELPDESK or at my talk page (see link in my signature). Thanks Malcous and Johnuniq. I'll wait and see what happens. Wikipedia seems to make it sooo difficult to just try to correct a now obviously incorrect wikipedia page... :) Oh well, what can one do.AtheistAllianceAmerica (talk) 04:46, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there is some annoying bureaucracy. But once the name is changed, it should be smoother sailing from there on. Good luck, GABgab 18:28, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
