Happy New Year!

Dear Marek69/Archive 7,
I just wanted to wish you and your family a happy new year, however you're celebrating it. Whether 2009 was a good year for you, or if it wasn't the greatest year, hopefully 2010 will be better. Cheers, and happy editing in 2010.

Hi, thank you for your message. I've had a look at the edit history of the Homepage article and I can't find any edits by myself
I have also not messaged you regarding this article (although I notice another editor MWOAP has, in this message)
If I am mistaken could you please point out the edits I have made or messages I have sent you.

RAMIN BAHRANI IS IRANIAN

Dude, why are you changing the edits i have done to the Ramin Bahrani page? The guy has stated numerous time he is IRANIAN and not bahrani. Please do not change it again. It is rather idiotic. The name ramin bahrani is as iranian as it can get. If you want further proof just google: ramin bahrani+iran. You'll get enough hits that SHOW he is iranian. Thanks and have a nice day. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.14.49.69 (talk) 00:04, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your message. I've had a look at the history of the Ramin Bahrani article and I can't find a single edit which I have made, let alone continually reverting you.
If I am mistaken could you please point out the edits I have made (using diffs if possible)

Suspicious article: Helead

Dear Marek, I found an article about a supposed greek myth creature called the Helead, but then I found out that it is actually a new creation of Aaron Siddall (he has his own website). Can you check the discussion page of that article, I post the link to his webpage (written in his drawing). Do you think this article is Wikipedia material, I don't know exactly how is the removal procedure?--Rochelimit (talk) 21:35, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rochelimit, you're right the article looks like it is about something someone made up one day.
The article has no references or citations, the closest thing to it is the link you've provided on the talk page.
I've done a quick google search and have come up with nothing but the Wikipedia article and copies of it on Wiki-mirror sites.
On this basis I think it qualifies as a candidate for proposed deletion.
In order to a start the discussion of and process for deletion, please read the guidelines in Wikipedia:Proposed deletion
You are free to start this process yourself by adding {{subst:prod|concern= reason for proposed deletion}} to the top of the article page (as described in Wikipedia:Proposed deletion#Nominating)
If you require my help in the process, just let me know.
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 03:05, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Marek, thanks for the info, I will inform u if I need help. --Rochelimit (talk) 11:17, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Marek, I found a possibility that the Helead might well be the Eleionomae. The current Helead article has an Italian wiki link, 'Eleadi' (but the explanation in the Italian wiki seems to be the translation of the current Helead article). Eleadi is known in its ancient name as Heleionomae or Eleionomae. So the name is probably true, but the description is totally modern fiction. BTW I have put the proposal for deletion in the page. I hope somebody more expert than me, can somewhat 'improve' the article, maybe by merging? etc.. --Rochelimit (talk) 11:34, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a lot!

Thanks

Hi Marek, Thanks for your welcome - news does get round fast. You may be interested to know why I became an editor. This week we were watching 'Who wants to become a millionaire' and one of the questions was about the town of Grasse in France. As always I go to Wikipedia first for information and found that the article is only brief but asks if someone could expand it from the French site. I thought I could have a go at doing some translation work, so here I am.

The French article is long and has a lot of information that I don't suppose would interest an English speaker - eg who was mayor in 1856. But it might be helpful to expand the section on the perfume industry.

I'd be glad of any comments you have

Good to hear from you.

Oldrydalian (talk) 00:25, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Oldrydalian, thank you for your message. I am very pleased you have taken on the challenge of expanding the Grasse article, as it could do with some improvement.
One section missing in the Grasse article is a 'History' section. Most Wikipedia articles on cities/towns tend to have one. It's worth looking up some other city articles, particularly the featured articles to get some ideas of how the good articles look.
If you do need any help, you know where to find me :-)
Meanwhile, I wish you Good Luck and Happy Wiki-ing! -- Marek.69 talk 00:51, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

I hope you're having an excellent start to this new year and that it continues. Thank you very much for your assistance at the Dominican Republic article. If there's an article you'd like some help watching, just name it. SamEV (talk) 19:52, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Just so you know, what I do when anyone helps me often or in an important way on a page important to me is watchlist the page they edit most, as a thank you. Usually I don't tell them, but since I couldn't find that page in your contributions history, because the tool that normally provides that info no longer does, I had to ask you. Cheers, Marek. SamEV (talk) 19:43, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
OK, the page I mostly contribute to is Pope John Paul II, but I think quite a number of people are watching it at the moment. I think it is well covered, but an extra pair of eyes would do no harm :-)
Regarding edit contribution tools, have you tried X!'s tool which can be found here?
Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 20:28, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, but that's the one I was talking about. It provides some info, but not the names of articles most edited by users. SamEV (talk) 20:48, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
And I watchlisted JP's article, of course. ("JP"? If there really is a hell I hope I don't go there for that...) More recently I added Poland (b/c you were right: JP's article is well watched, so I've not been able to repay your help much). Just trying to help against vandalism; besides, I like geography.
This week I noticed that the edit counter provides the "Top edited articles" list for some users and not for others. So I'm almost sure that it was working properly all along.
No need to reply. Just an update, just in case. Enjoy the weekend! SamEV (talk) 04:14, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey, you said I made edits to a page but I've never been to that page. It's possible I clicked through it and edited something by mistake but I just wanted to let you know that I never edited anything. Atleast purposely —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.210.94 (talk) 05:56, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi that message was from the 17 December 2009, so it could be that someone else had the 69.127.210.94 IP address at the time.
If you do not have an account on Wikipedia, and edit anonymously you are identified by your IP address.
It is very likely that you have a dynamic IP address, which means it could be different every time you turn your computer on, so in December it could have been allocated to someone else.
If you are considering editing Wikipedia, I would recommend that you create an account. This has many benefits, the least of which is avoiding situations, like this.
In short please ignore this particular message, delete it if you wish. If you have any further questions please come back to me.

Help wanted

As You perhaps can see under the discussion in article "Copenhagen" I have made a complaint about the history of Copenhagen. And it is not possible to me to edit the article both "Copenhagen" and "History of", therefore I wonder if You can and want to help me with the errors thats now is in the hisory article. In 1801 (during the Bonaparte-wars; he became emperor Napoleon first in 1805) GreatBritain doubted the neutrality of both Denmark-Norway and Sweden. I think it was PM Pitt (?) that demanded that both the danish and swedish navys/fleets shold be taken "in brittish care"so Bonaparte and France wouldn't. Of course both Denmark-Norway and Seden refused, and a brittish navy-forece (where I belive Nelson was secon in command from the start of the battle but soon became the real commander - at least Nelson was at the battle) attacked the main part of the danish navy in 1801 - this battle is known as "the battle of Copenhagen harbour/or beaches" something like that. And the brittish succseeded to sink large parts of the danish navy, and destroyed some parts of the city aswell - thow Brittain also lost several ships an a lot of men, and they couldn't preceed toward Karlskrona where the main part of the swedish navy was. This might also had something to do with the news of the murder of the russian Tzar Paul I. In any case there were no brittish-swedish naval battle.

In 1807 - when Nelson had fallen at Trafalgar 2-3 years before and Napoleon had became Emperor - Great Brittain again came to disagreements with Denmark (exactlly why I don't know). But this time the brittish landed army troops that surrounded Copenhagen. I do not know why or who was in command (political probablly satill PM Pitt, but military , not a clue). I've thow seen a documentary about this event, and the brittish troops had a new weapon they wanted to try. Rockets with phosfor (P , and number 15 in the chemical periodic system) in the top of the rockets, so when the hit roofs made by "straw ???" (dont know the word for it but the reamains of harvests) and it was very common 200 years ago - wich resulted in fires that just water couldn't stop, and that 80-90  % of all non-stonebuildings were destroyed.

I'm sorry that my english is poor (it's a lot easier to translate from english to swedish by the way), but I hope that You have understood what I'm trying to explain. And please do not confuse my bad english writing with my historical knowlidge of Copenhagen.

So, Theese are two major - and different events in the history of Copenhagen that needs to be written in. Not in several pages but a few lines of both battles. (And making sure that it was two different occations - 1801 and 1807).

So if You have the time, accesss and feel for it, I humbly ask You to correct the current text in this part. Do You know why the Copenhagen-article have been locked, by the way ? The only reason I can suspect is that there has been an "Scandinavian edit-war" (which are not uncommon) between on the one hand people from Stockholm and a few other "greatswedes" from other part of the country - and on the other hand people from the in 1658 by Sweden occupied parts of Denmark = most southern Sweden, counties of Skåne (Scania) and Blekinge together with danes. I strongly belong to the latters, but in case of Wikipedia I do think that the only matter should be the truth as far as we know what happened some 200 years ago.

Very best of reguards in anyway Awayanoder (talk) 13:14, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Awayanoder, thank you for your message. In answer to your question the Copenhagen article has been semi-protected. The reason for this is that the article has been subjected to excessive vandalism by anonymous IP editors and by sockpuppets. Semi protecting articles prevents edits from anonymous users (IP addresses), as well as edits from accounts that are not autoconfirmed (is at least four days old and has ten or more edits to Wikipedia) or confirmed.
In your case your account isn't autoconfirmed, so it's either not four days old or doesn't have ten edits. When you satisfy either of these conditions, you'll be able to edit semi-protected articles like Copenhagen.
However, If you wish me to help you to with editing, I am happy to do so, just tell me exactly what you want to do.
You say you are translating your information. It would be helpful if you could provide the original sources for the changes you propose to make. I am happy to help you format them in the correct way.
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 19:40, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks! I can see from the history file that You have made changes of the file, and it is now even better then

what my knowlidge of the two different events was. I suspected that the battle in 1801 originally was led by an other admiral then Lord Nelson, but had no name in my head. I'm also pleased with the 1807 battle, thow I've seen a documentary about this matter , where a scientist was following the landed army troops and for the first time uses rockets with phosphor (if tht is the correct english word - it's "P" in the chemical/physical periodical system. Where Au=gold, Ag=silver, O=oxygen, Pb=led etc) In any case burning phosphor is like napalm, very difficult to stop it burning. But I understand that this is hard to verify. The main thing was to mention the two different battles (which have a rather different character) - it's caused confusion in swedish wikipedia where english wikipedia always is concidered as the truth - even if you can verify things from swedisk book-encyclopedias, the young administrators rather belives english wikipedia in case of diffrencies. Again very appriciated and thanks 83.249.35.144 (talk) 23:19, 12 January 2010 (UTC) (My name is Pontus by the way - the rather stupid Awayanoder simply comes from the anti-phishing word I had to enter when I registrated me) Sorry if I sockpopped, but my login disappears when changing from different wikipedias. It was not intentional Awayanoder (talk) 23:26, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi again Awaynoder, I'm having a look at the article at the moment and trying to find a bit more info about the 1801 battle. I'll keep you informed... Marek.69 talk 23:29, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
I managed to locate some new references and have made changes to Copenhagen and History of Copenhagen articles to emphasise the two separate battles of 1801 and 1807.
Please see Copenhagen#History and History_of_Copenhagen#The_1800s
Could you tell me what you think?
Regards -- Marek.69 talk 00:29, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
I have now (again) stydied both the articles, and I find the changes excellent. Perhaps some comment of the 1801 battle that even Lord Nelson lost quite a few ships, as article states it was Horiato Nelsons hardest battle and his commander obviously wanted a retreat at some point - for this there have to be an explination. And even if Great Brittain is "the heroicest nation" of both the 1800's and 1900's some credit to the danes (in 1801) perhaps would be propper even in englis wiki ? The brittish navy didn't prceed towards Karlskrona (at southeast corner of Sweden) where a swedish fleet was waiting.) Too many lost ships at Cpoenhagen is one of two possibilities (or both) the brittish-allied-tzar of Russia "Paul I" (in swedish) had been murdered in Saint Petersburgh - and news travelled not so fast in 1801. I'm not sure on wich but I belive that in 1801 brittain had the same damands on both Denmark-Norway and Sweden. And Karlskrona is less then a day-sail away from Copenhagen. (It was by the way the second biggest town in Sweden at the time with more then 30,000 inhabitants; Gothenburg was about the same size but a little smaller. Today Karlskrona still has around 30,000 people while Gothenburgh has half a million !)
But as I wrote I find the articles and its verifications spendid - well done ! And thanks Awayanoder (talk) 06:35, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Awaynoder, thank you for your message. I will try and do some more on the Copenhagen article when I have some free time.

OECD

Marek,

Please take a look at change I made on OECD page. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Organisation_for_Economic_Co-operation_and_Development It added a dotted-lined box, that I do not know how to eliminate. Thanks Morogoso (talk) 13:54, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Morogoso, I've fixed it. The dotted-line box happens if you start a new line with a space.
Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 14:59, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

The reason I left a space, as you probably know, is because if I started in the first position it would take the asterisk as the beginning of an additional entry to the list above. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Morogoso (talkcontribs) 17:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

At Szigetszentmiklós, which I come across by chance from editing another article, the infobox is for Infobox City. Renaming History of Bosnia article

Hi thanks for the greeting. I do have a question. I have just edited Bosnia page by changing the date of fall of Bosnia under the Ottomans, from 1463 to 1535. The former is the date of the execution of the last king, and the latter is the date the Ottomans executed the last Crown-Prince. They were able to form its first administration, called the Elayet of Bosnia, only in 1527, so 1463 has no relevance -- its either 1527 or 1535 but I opted for 1535 hoping that emotional types won't suffer a heart attack that way, an execution is an execution is...

But as I changed the numbers on that page, the to it linked pages now have broken links as they carried "1463" in their titles: History of Bosnia and Herzegovina (958–1463) and History of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1463–1878)

Can you please rename these by replacing 1463 with 1535, as I am not confirmed yet? Thanks! Regionlegion (talk) 01:48, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Regionlegion, thank you for your message. My suggestion would be to post a message on both articles talk pages with your proposal to rename and reasoning why (references would probably help), basically as you have done above.
Then if there are no objections, we can proceed with the renaming/moving.
You can read more about the procedure in Wikipedia:How to move a page.
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 02:00, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
OK great thanks. I just posted on Talk:History_of_Bosnia_and_Herzegovina#1535_or_1527_instead_of_1463. How long do you usually wait before proclaim no objections? Regionlegion (talk) 02:14, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I have also reversed my changes on the main Bosnia page, from 1535 back to 1463, in anticipation of the discussion. Regionlegion (talk) 02:21, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Two, three days, I guess? I depends if there a discussion on the subject. In my experience, its better not to rush this, especially if a lot of pages link to the article. (You can check this with the 'What links here' link on left sidebar, under toolbox)
This article may also be helpful to you: Wikipedia:Requested moves
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 02:25, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
OK thanks, I'll check those. In the meantime, I also posted the same proposition on the main page: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Bosnia_and_Herzegovina
but my post is not showing there for some reason, though it does appear in the contents table for that same discussion page? Some bug? Thanks. Regionlegion (talk) 02:29, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
OK I've fixed the problem on Talk:Bosnia_and_Herzegovina, your post should be visible now.
The History of Bosnia and Herzegovina (958–1463) page was just a redirect page to Kingdom of Bosnia, so I've created another identical redirect page: History of Bosnia and Herzegovina (958–1535) which will do the same thing.
I've also posted a move request on Talk:History of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1463–1878)#Requested_move, copying over your post from Talk:Bosnia_and_Herzegovina as reasoning.
Now we just wait for other editors to comment...

In order to sign your name on talk pages just type four tildes (~~~~) (or copy/paste them, if you can't find the tilde key.)
If you are using the edit toolbar option (it usually appears above the edit screen as a default), click the signature icon: , to add the four tildes.

Re: Vandalism on Abhishek Kapoor Page

Hi..

That page has again been vandalised by 134.151.0.10. Isn't there a way to stop this?

Amborish —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amborish (talkcontribs) 05:17, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Amborish, thanks for informing me.
I've left the user a message.
It may be a good idea to start a discussion on the Abhishek Kapoor talk page and invite 134.151.0.10 to contribute and explain their edits. This way you might find the motivation behind their edits and maybe reach some agreement.
If they refuse to discuss and keep reverting to their version of the article, blanking sections and citations without explanation, then it will be treated as vandalism and appropriate warnings given/action taken.

Chantilly Racecourse

Dear Marek69, I was wondering if I can use and retouch an image in your site. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Chantilly_Racecourse It is the racecourse photo at the bottom right corner. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:IMG_0933.JPG Can I use this image freely? Can I retouch it (as in clean up and make it better looking for my use)? Please advise! I can be reached at: malvin@remhk.com Many Thanks! mal —Preceding unsigned comment added by Malvinrem (talkcontribs) 15:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Rights

Thank you very much Marek69!

So as long as I don't suggest my project is endorse by the Chantilly Racecourse then I am fine, correct? For example in my sales brochure it says Chateau de Chantilly is the inspiration this project. One more question, I've found 4 paintings in your Chateau de Chantilly site: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Chantilly

And they are: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Le_Tre_Grazie.png http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Ingres,_Self-portrait.jpg http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Margot_001.jpg http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Piero_di_Cosimo_043.jpg

Does that mean I can use these images also? But I found out that a stock photo house carries these 4 images and is the direct representative for Chateau de Chantilly. How does that work?

From my knowledge no one can really claim the rights to these paintings since they are all over 100 yeras old, the only way to claim its rights is if I go there and took a picture then I own the rights to that certain picture.

Would like your opinion on this. Again Thank you!!! mal —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.232.169.69 (talk) 17:05, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mal, the first picture appears to be Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported, which is one of the type we discussed above.
The other three [2], [3], [4] all appear to be Public domain and more information on that license can be found here.
I'm not sure how this relates to the stock photo house. You could ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Somebody more familiar with copyrights and licensing may be able to help you on that one.

Thanks for the welcome message. I see I have a lot to learn to fully participate.

My question is how to change a word in a link. The one I am trying to change is in the page http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Columbus,_Ohio

At the beginning of the last paragraph under Cityscape, I'm trying to change "University area" to "University District". How do I do that?

Tim Terrific (talk) 18:15, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tim, thank you for your message.
That wording is currently part of a internal Wikipedia link.
The coding currectly looks like this: [[University District, Columbus, Ohio|University area]]
Which displays as: University area
If you wish to change the displayed wording of the link to University District, then you will need to change the code to:
[[University District, Columbus, Ohio|University District]],
which will display as University District.
A good article to consult for further tips on editing articles would be Wikipedia:How to edit a page.
For more info on Wikipedia links please see Wikipedia:Linking
I hope this helps.

Hi Gurch, thanks for the message and for pointing this out.
When I posted the Welcome, I saw no indication of the block (talk and user page were empty and red-linked).
All I noticed that the user was a Huggler with (seemingly) useful contributions showing up on my watchlist.
When I welcome users such as this, where should I be checking to see if they are blocked?

Hi! To see if somebody is blocked, you can install popups (available through Special:Preferences in the gadgets area, I believe) and when you hover over their username with your mouse, it will show their contrib count and it will say BLOCKED if they are currently blocked. Another easy way to see if somebody is blocked is by viewing their contrib list. In this case it would be Special:Contributions/- ). The red box at the top shows a preview of their block log. Disruptive editor

Marek:

You helped me a few months ago with the "Ecuadorian Stalker," a disruptive editor who had assaulted all and sundry with multiple user names (and was ultimately banned).

Regrettably, we may have another one: Hubschrauber729. This one's more subtle, since he uses no foul language, and keeps his calm, but has systematically gone through a variety of articles, and all articles categorized as Italian-Argentines, deleting the subject's ethnicity category without use of common sense, without checking for references, and with no attempts at consensus (which in almost all those cases, he would never get, since the merest Google query would confirm the ethnic origin of most of those family names).

I've had to go back and undo a number of those deletions, but made exceptions were there was doubt (in a few cases, the subject's mother was of Italian background, but not properly cited in the article). I also checked for stage name uses, of course.

If you checked his talk page, you'll notice that the user has been pettifogging a variety of articles with the same pretext. Interestingly, Hubschrauber ran into trouble by insisting that Michael Klukowski is of Austrian descent, and without citing sources to that effect (see "descent" is not a place of birth!, near the bottom of the page). The user, therefore, couldn't care less about strict adherence to RS, but instead seems to enjoy devoting his time on Wikipedia to disrupt.

If all goes well, this'll be as far as it goes, though I can't count on it. Would you please help me keep an eye on this user?

I hope all's been well with you, and thanks again for your time.

All the best,

Sherlock4000 (talk) 21:17, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sherlock4000, thank you for your message. It's nice to hear from you again.
Thank you for pointing this. I will take a look into this situation.
Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 21:29, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Marek:
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I've just spent all my free time today reverting this nutjob's deletions, and he just reverted them all!
Many of these articles have had their proper ethicity category for years, and no one ever disputed them (of course not, they are Italian-Argentines, after all). Nor does this user, by the way, he just feels the category is "unsupported."
Right. Cacciaore, Caputo, Contursi, de Caro, D'Alessandro, Fini, Sabatini – lots of room for doubt, there.
Michael Klukowski, on the other hand, must be Austrian, he insists. No citations, no common knowledge, nothing (and when other users have disputed it), and we're to believe that this pest cares about "reliable sources"?
UN CORNO !, as my Italian great-grandmother used to say (God rest her).
Marek, I found Ecuadorian Stalker, and have found another one. Please, warn him, or have him blocked, if you can, as he'll probably laugh the warning aside.
Thanks again for your time and work.

Is it a bit POV at Dominican Republic?

Hello Marek69,

I made a few edits to the lead at Dominican Republic, since I find it quite astonishing not on Wikipedia but in real life that I don!t think I have heard a single mention of the fact that they are stuck together on the same island. I did a few changes under various minor policies, MOS and dates and I thought a bit POV. In fact the whole lead seems to me rather US-centric in its world view but naturally I am not qualified to say this as I came to the article in passing, but when the lead says "it suffers from this" and refers to the CIA World Factbook I start to wonder if the section is lifted from there and COPYVIO, I have not checked that yet and have no idea if that book has copyright or whatever anyway as a US government publication but it sounds very much in CIA World Factbook style and we don!t want it to be a straight lift.

I only ask you and not as I respect you as an intelligent editor and see you have had a minor hand in a few reversions, all I did was scrubbed what I think is POV and added a few convert templates and left a few edit summaries, and unpiped some links under WP:EGG, WP:ASTONISH, etc, I don!t like piped links when some minor periphrasis means you can leave a straight blue link to the subject, but I realise that is a stylistic thing (I don't mind piped links for grammar etc but when you can with rewording say "economic liberalism" as a straight link instead of "liberal economics" and then pipe it, I think it is either lazy or an attempt to hide it.)

I just really am saying this to ask you to have a look over since I have no great interest in this article beyond wondering why all the news I have heard, including the BBC World Service Wednesday morning with a presumably rerun documentary on Papa Doc and Baby Doc, seems to pretend that the Dominican Republic doesn't exist. I know the two countries, that and Haiti, have not exactly had a loving relationship, but this pretence that it does not exist I find quite astonishing. That, of course, is beyond WP, but is how I got to it, to check that I was not mistaken and it is actually there. On my usual turf, Hungary, what with the Romanians, Serbs (Serbians?), Slovakians, Germans, and a monkey's uncle from Dnepetropovsk, of course we all know exactly that Hungary exists we just don't know what of seventeen names we should call something.

Best wishes, basically I am asking your opinion if this needs a bit of cleaning for POV, because I do see a lot of your edits cos we overlap sometimes and they are always good. Si Trew (talk) 07:54, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

BTW I don't trust the CIA World Factbook because it has listed England's comparative size as "slightly smaller than Oregon". Dear me. They could have said much bigger than Rhode Island or half the size of Texas or something, but Oregon? As if anyone knows how big Oregon is. It is world knowledge that areas have to be compared to the size of Wales or (if on a smaller scale) the size of a football pitch, giving a lovely ambiguity about which game of football you are playing or that association football does not define the size of the pitch. Heights, of course, must be measured in double-decker buses or nelson's columns, and volumes in albert halls. The standard unit of beauty is the millihelen, that being the amount of beauty needed to launch one ship. I think I will go and start a riot at WP:CONVERT. (Nah, they are all very sensible a and helpful fellows there.) Si Trew (talk) 07:59, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Simon, thank you for your message. It is very nice to hear from you again. Thanks in particular for your insightful comments about British/American comparative sizing, which has had me chuckling to myself for some considerable (large British unit of) time today. You are of course absolutely right with you opinions. You have me totally on side. We now need to start recruiting others, I think... :-)
Regarding the Dominican Republic, I am just a minor contributor to this article, mainly vandalism reverts recently. I haven't really got my teeth into it yet, so I'll have to get back to you on that.
It probably could do with some 'balancing' though.
I thank you for your comments and wish you Happy Wiki-ing.

I was back at work so had little time to reply. Thank-you for your encouragement.

I am glad the camaprative made you smile. The ratio of knowledgeunderstanding in England I think overweighs the US, but then I could be accused to be biased

I lived for a couple of years there and I loved it. Friendly, lovely people, who have two faults. They think that the whole world is America [(I had an article Countries That Are Not the United States) and, er, yhj

I work for an Americo-English company that we constantly bish and bash about America English and British English. For myself, I am English. Not British. My partner is Hungarian and my previous was Canadian. I have lived in Cairpo, Texas, my French is assez bien, I can speak a little of other languages, was quite nice to direct a lost Japanese in Japanese. I have to learn Hungarian now

I think it doesn!t matter if there is a mistake, we all make them. Fortunately most of mine are sourced, even if it is a vague source. I know I read it there somewhere but can!t place it. So it is kinda a half source.

On the units, I do hace an accurate measure of the volme of the Albert Hall and put it there at WP:CONVERT

Best wishes, I know I am an idiot, but I hope a clever idiot.

Hubschrauber

Marek:

I've just spent three hours restoring category links to over 100 articles, all deleted by this same user, Hubschrauber729 with NO CONSENSUS, and no proof to the contrary. As I mentioned, these are all people with Italian surnames – their real names – and if someone wishes to dispute it, they had better have good documentation, since doing so wouldn't pass the laugh test with anyone of Italian descent.

He's done the same to Turkish editors, and others, but somehow manages to fly under the radar. You know, some of us still enjoy doing this as a useful hobby. If this were his case, he would suggest the changes or bring up the doubt in the talk page for consensus, instead of speed-reverting other's edits!

Please, help, if you can.

Hi Camomila, thank you for your message. I believe the reason the photo was removed from the Brussels article was that there are so many photos there already and it would be difficult to find room for it.
I've put the same image into the European Commission article. (This seemed to be the next most logical place for it - unless you can think of somewhere better)
Sometimes it it difficult to add to articles which have so many existing images. If you have this difficulty again, it may be an idea to write a short message on the article's talk page.

Editing a semi-locked page

Hi Marek69,

Susan Boyle's page is semi-locked and I can't edit it. I noticed you edited it yesterday, how does one get the right to edit a semi-locked page. It stated it was semi-locked because of vandalism.

Thanks,

Jonrussell5 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonrussell5 (talkcontribs) 14:40, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Jonrussell5, thank you for your message. You are correct in your statement that the Susan Boyle article has been semi-protected. The reason for this is that the article has been subjected to excessive vandalism by anonymous IP editors.
Semi protecting articles prevents edits from anonymous users (IP addresses), as well as edits from accounts that are not autoconfirmed (is at least four days old and has ten or more edits to Wikipedia) or confirmed.
In your case your account isn't autoconfirmed, so it's either not four days old or doesn't ten edits. When you satisfy both of these conditions, you'll be able to edit semi-protected articles like Susan Boyle.
If you require any further help, do not hesitate to come back to me.
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 16:02, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Appreciate the response, Marek69:

Then perhaps you can give me your e-mail address so I can request that you make an update to Susan Boyle's page since you are an approved administrator. You can e-mail me at jon.russell5@gmail.com. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonrussell5 (talkcontribs) 16:24, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

I am an autoconfirmed user, so I can make changes to the page. (I'm not an admin on Wikipedia though)
If you wish to e-mail me there is a feature to do this on Wikipedia; if you look on the left hand side (of this talk page), underneath the searchbox, there is a section headed Toolbox. In this section there should be a link 'E-mail this user' (or click here)
This will allow you to send me an e-mail through Wikipedia.
By my calculations, your account is 14 days old and you have 5 edits, so you only need to do 5 more edits and you will be able to make the changes yourself :-)
It's up to you, I don't mind helping, (although I might not be able to do it straight away if its a lot of changes.)
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 16:38, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Alanya

Marek69, last month I asked that you remove the article Alanya from your AWB editing. Again today I've undid your reformating of the sister cities section. I still do not feel that we need three headings for such a short section, especially misleading ones like "international relations". If you recall, I disagree both with the usefulness of these sorts of edits and the use of AWB to make them, so if you can at least avoid this one, I would appreciate it.-- Patrick {oѺ} 21:00, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Patrick, I'm sorry. I got confused with another article I was editing at the same time. That is, the reformatting was a mistake, rather than me going back on what we discussed.
Thank you for letting me know and please accept my apologies for the inconvenience. :-(
Kind Regards and Happy Editing -- Marek.69 talk 19:30, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Patrick, I have now removed Alanya from my Watchlist to avoid any chance of further mistakes.
I'm sorry for the confusion and will do my best to avoid editing the article in the future.
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 22:56, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
No worries! I didn't mean to be so curt there. I just don't think we need all those headings obfuscating the section.-- Patrick {oѺ} 23:59, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Dubai

If you have a problem with another user's edits please use the talk page rather than just reverting. Thank you. DJ Clayworth (talk) 18:22, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi DJ Clayworth, thank you for the message. The IP's first edit was to change 'Dubai' to 'DUBAI'. The next edit was to delete a section of text. These looked like disruptive edits to me.

Victory FM

Dear Marek69

I am a bit of a todler of a user really but I did spend a reasonable amount of time creating a page called Victory FM, another called Kevin Huffer and updating the Radio Victory page.

I returned earlier this month to update more info to the Victory FM page and noticed it had been deleted also the page about Kevin. I'm not sure why this has occured, are you able to asist in pointing me to the person to ask or provide a reason.

I do have a personal interest and indeed great involvement with the subject matter and a great deal of history to share on this topic.

The people of Portsmouth are quite passionate about 'thier' things and indeed history. The latter seems to in the blood of the people in the area. Hence bothering to put the effort in.

Sites such as this are becoming the defacto reffernce point for checking out facts and people. Thus I feel the Victory FM page and some of the people it talks about are of interest.

If you are able to reply by email, mj.samways@talktalk.net, it would be easier for me to track any response you are able to make,

Many thanks

Mark —Preceding unsigned comment added by Avictorian (talkcontribs) 19:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mark,
It looks like you missed the debate on the proposed deletion of the Victory FM article and the debate on the proposed deletion of the Kevin Huffer article, which both ended in deletion.
You could ask for these articles to be userfied (undeleted and copied into your user namespace).
The Victory FM article was deleted by user Cirt and Kevin Huffer was deleted by user Tone. I suggest you contact either of these users if you want either article userfied. You could also contact any other admin, as I think any admin can do this.
From the comments on the deletion debates, the case is not that these articles shouldn't exist, but that they need a significant re-write and additional referencing. I'm unable to comment on this further as I have no access to these articles. (I'm not an admin).
Please let me know if there's anything further I can help with.

Vandalism

Hello, u earlier made a comment saying that i vandalized a page called the Prince, i have gotten numerous accusations related to this although i have never heard of any of the pages that people say i edit i may have only edited once in my life and that was to remove someone else s vandalism, could u please tell me what i should do because i think some has hacked my internet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.70.94.137 (talk) 21:06, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your message. The message you refer to was from the 9 December 2009, so it could be that someone else had the 69.127.210.94 IP address at the time.

In short, if you didn't edit The Prince article, then please ignore the warning message from me, delete it if you wish. If you have any further questions please come back to me.

Hi Iqbal.a, I've already put a proposed deletion request on the page, nominating it as a ‘Biography of a living person - Unreferenced since June 2009’
I've already deleted the obvious problematic parts. Could I ask you why you are so keen to delete it so urgently?

Iqbal.a, I've already removed the offensive text and posted a message on Stoccolma's talk page about this behaviour. If they continue they will be blocked from editing on Wikipedia.

No Problem. Please let me know if this person continues this behaviour on Wikipedia so that appropriate action can be taken.
Regarding his actions on other sites, I think you will have to contact the administrators on those sites, explaining the problems you are experiencing.
This person should get the message that he must stop immediately or you will be forced to report them to the relevant authorities.
I wish you the best of luck with a speedy resolution.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

If he creates a page on Wikipedia with the text he used before, I'm sure it will be spotted quickly and deleted.
If I can find out some info/advice on the other sites you mention, I will let you know.

Hi Marek,

Thanks for the welcome message. Just a question on how I get my profile page similar to your profile?

New format?

Hi mate, would you direct me to the new references section format guidelines? thanks. PS I won't be watching your talk page so plz reply on mine Eli+ 19:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi Eli, thank you for your message. I'm unaware of a specific 'new' guideline on formatting 'References' secrions.
I'm guessing your question refers to the recent changes I've been making changing {{reflist}} to {{reflist|colwidth=30em}}
I first noticed this particular formatting change when using some of Dispenser's tools, such as Dab solver, Checklinks & Reflinks which makes this change under the ‘Apply common fixes’ feature.
I asked user Dispenser if he knew of any guidelines. From his reply, I gather that it just seems to be ongoing trend by some editors on Wikipedia to use this format, primarily for aesthetic reasons.
I personally think it help to tidy up the article, giving a neater formatted list of footnotes. I hope this helps explain :-)
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 23:58, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks mate, that did help. i like the new format, i was only wondering if i'm supposed to switch all the articles to match it. No prob ;) Wikidly yours Eli+ 06:43, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
