Pakistani passport
Thanks for ce the article. Please see if the first few paragraphs of the original article should be imported as well or otherwise they can be added elsewhere. Also, I have removed the external link that you added earlier today since the content is imported already. On a side note, I am planning to get more of his articles under CC-BY-SA so that relevant WP articles could be benefited. Will you be able to help me to identity the articles he wrote for Dawn.com that can be useful for Wikipedia? --Saqib (talk) 17:50, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. I'll have a look, but from what I remember, it was mostly the history that I found valuable for that article. Good luck with getting his content licensed, I think it will be great for expanding coverage here. There are a lot of articles quite useful, so I don't have any particular favourites at the moment. But I'll definitely identify any in the future. Regards, Mar4d (talk) 19:45, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Musharraf
Hey Mar4d. I'm currently having a discussion at Talk:2016_Uri_attack#Gen._Musharraf on the notability of Pervez Musharraf, and whether his military-related opinion could be notable enough to mention on the 2016 Uri attack article, especially with regards to claims that Pakistan may have armed the perpetrators. I see that you have edited both 2016 Uri attack and Pervez Musharraf, so presumably you are familiar with both topics. If you could give your opinion, that'd be appreciated. Thanks! Ways to improve Government of Karachi
Hi, I'm Pgallert. I've just checked through Government of Karachi, a page you created. I noticed several links to references to another Wikipedia article, Mayor of Karachi. As those references seemed to be unrelated to the Government of Karachi article, I have removed them for now. But generally, if a reference is useful for more than one article, it should appear in full in all articles it is used.
If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Cheers! --Pgallert (talk) 07:07, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup
Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time. The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. CaroleHenson (talk) 18:27, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi Mar4d!
Remember when you wished me "Welcome" on Wikipedia? Thanks!
Actually I want to ask if you know something about Ali Zafar. I have left a message on talk page of the article. Hope for your kind response and action on it.
Thanks once again! M.Billoo2000 (talk) 14:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Mar4d! As you've said to me, "If you need help,... ask me on my talk page...", but you haven't replied me (I know I also didn't messaged you that time). Another question, related to Ali Zafar's song Ab Khel Ke Dikha, I want to ask from you. "Urdu to English translation" translates "اب کھیل کے دکھا" as "Let's show the Game" or "Show the Play now", and according to my limited knowledge, it doesn't say "Ab Khelne Ka Waqt Hai" (as you translated it "Time to Play the Game"). I want to ask why did you remove two singles (songs) from "Ali Zafar chronology" in that article? And in update of above's message, I have left three messages on "Talk:Ali Zafar". Hope for your kind response and reply, thanks! M. Billoo (talk • contribs) 13:28, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hello M.Billoo2000. Regarding the English translation, the ones you mentioned aren't really meaningful or grammatically correct. The existing one is what I found on an official PSL poster on social media, hence it was added as a rough translation. I don't know where that source is now, I'll have to find it. As regards the Ali Zafar singles, they were removed because that article is on the PSL theme song, not Ali Zafar. Hence they were irrelevant to the content of that article. You can add them on the singer's article however. Regards, Mar4d (talk) 08:38, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of PakTribune
The article PakTribune has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
not notable and reliable. no editorial board. no print edition. just an ordinary news website.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Saqib (talk) 07:12, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017
On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.
For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):
- First place – $200
- Second & Third place – $50 each
- Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.
Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.
After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.
The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).

Featured article on Main Page
Hi, Dear, Kindly help and guide me how can we include Sindhi Cultural Day article on Wikipedia's main page as featured article. Expecting a positive and a dignified role from you. Jogi 007 (talk) 11:01, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Jogi. The Featured article criteria is quite stringent, and not possible as the article is quite far from even GA criteria currently. Moreover, FA articles on the main page are pre-determined from a list of very selected articles from what I know. However, some basic formatting could make this article eligible for the main page's WP:DYK section, and the fact that it's a new article is a plus point. Karakoram
The article Eight-thousander shows four of them (K2, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Broad Peak) in the Karakoram. The remaining ten seem to be in the Himalayas.
The wording in the Karakoram article "the highest concentration of peaks over 8000m in height to be found anywhere on earth", if true, needs an explanation showing in what sense it is true.
I would normally check the wording of the reference (the BBC Planet Earth episode 3), but I am not able to do that unless the programme is repeated some day. Perhaps the BBC programme was lumping the Karakoram with the Himalayas. It would, perhaps, allay my doubts if you could give me, and other readers, a more easily verifiable source. Last year, I proposed this page to be deleted but it was reverted. I did check Google Books and found this website been quoted in several books, but I wonder if this news organisation meet WP notability criteria and have an editorial team. I realised that some recently published news stories on website are merely copy/paste of articles published by other mainstreams news organisation such as Dawn, Daily Times etc. To me it look like a mirror site? --Saqib (talk) 14:59, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
- According to this, they are an established entity and do have an editorial team. As you mentioned, there were several book references quoting their articles so I would imply there is notability. Mar4d (talk) 15:06, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

- @113.203.154.155: He was born in Pakistan and lived there, and did not migrate to Hungary until he was 11 as per that article. That makes him a Pakistani emigrant. Please note that Category:Pakistani emigrants to Hungary is a subcategory of Category:Hungarian people of Pakistani descent, so indirectly the article is already in that cat. Technically, the first one is just more correct than the latter. He would only go into the latter if he was born in Hungary of Pakistani parentage. Mar4d (talk) 15:35, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:
- Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
- Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
- 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
- Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.
The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.
So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Restoring sock edits
I see in this edit your restored, wholesale, the edits I reverted as having been added by a confirmed sockmaster quoting WP:BANREVERT. Per that policy you are free to restore such edits as long as you are willing to take full responsibility for the content of said edits. Essentially, it is as if you made the edits yourself. In this specific case, you restored material made by a paid editing sock farm that introduced extremely promotional material and unsupported statements to the article. If you independently verify specific information that was included and can vouch for its accuracy, please feel free to restore the content on a case by case basis. What cannot be restored is promotionally-toned commentary such as "One of the most popular actresses of the nation", "established her as a leading actress of Pakistan" "received praise for portraying emotionally intense characters" and effusive puffery such as "acclaimed role". --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:41, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Ponyo:: Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware that content was contributed by a paid editor, which in any case is bound to bring WP:NPOV issues too. Knowing this and the concerns raised above, your revert can stay. Generally, when I see large amounts of content being reverted per WP:SOCK, I like to take another look and see if the contributed content improved the article's quality in any way. In this case, I'll go through the said content if I have time and see which parts can be verified. Mar4d (talk) 04:51, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. Note that this sock group also has a history of including inline citations that do not always support the content added, so that's something else to be wary of in this case.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:47, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi! I have left a message here, hope for your kind reply. Thanks! M. Billoo 20:41, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi Mar4d, Thanks for you edit on Partition of India. The reason why I had left it at Bengal was that I seemed to remember that the Presidency either formally ceased to exit in 1912, after the reunification of Bengal, and the creation of Bihar and Orissa Province, or it was formally abolished after the Government of India Act 1935. In either case, if my memory is correct, the presidency had ceased to exist by 1947. Would you like to do a little work? See if you can find sources that speak to the truth of either notion of mine. If either is true, could you create a real content page at Bengal Province, which currently is a dab page, or you could do it at Bengal Province, British India. It would have time period 1912/1935 to 1947? Fowler&fowler«Talk» 16:15, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Fowler&fowler: Hey Fowler&fowler. My knowledge of Bengal's colonial history is patchy at best, though what I understand from Bengal Presidency is that it was split in 1905 only to be "reunited" in 1912. And if this section is correct, Bihar and Orissa were carved out as new provinces whereas the rest of Bengal remained in its original (presidency) boundaries up till 1947. It was based on this assumption that I redirected British Bengal to that article. I may have to research a little more to be 100% certain. Mar4d (talk) 16:28, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

It took me two years to fix the pages so I would appreciate if you could add all of them into your watchlist and revert any questionable edit being added in future. 2018 election are near and I am expecting people close to subjects to edit the pages to please themselves. Here is the list: List of members of the 14th National Assembly of Pakistan. Thank you. --Saqib (talk) 10:45, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will keep this and associated pages under my watch. Regards, Mar4d (talk) 12:03, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. And also please add this bio of a Senator Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh. Apparently, Senator himself editing the page for self-promotion. --Saqib (talk) 15:37, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter
The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
- 1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
- Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
- Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.
Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.
So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hi, I've removed some overly detailed material related to Panama Case. Perhaps could you help with re-writing it better? --Saqib (talk) 09:08, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Therefore, please note that any edits which do not satisfy this policy can be reverted or changed by others. Blog on Pakistanis editing Hindi Wikipedia
Assalamu Alykum,
Long time back I had written a blog on Wikinut about Pakistanis editing Hindi Wikipedia. While I had to erase all my blogposts on Wikinut when I could not make minor corrections to one of my posts, you can still find the archived text posted here.
As against this, I have written some blogposts on your compatriots which still exist on WMF blog.
Thank you. --Muzammil (talk) 17:57, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Hindustanilanguage: Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. The post is relevant to a topic I am doing a little research on. On a side note, I have always found your Wikimedia posts very interesting and have read quite a few of them :) Regards, Mar4d (talk) 18:07, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

An article created by me Pakistan Railways Carriage Factory has been nominated for deletion. I Know it's very small that's the only info available on net. Need your help regarding that.
Thanks

- No comment on the AfD. But if you want to save the article/expand it further, Google Books would be a good place to look for sources. Mar4d (talk) 12:25, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Template:Cabinet of the Government of Pakistan
Hi
i have seen Template:Cabinet of the Government of Pakistan has been expanded to all governmental organisations. Why not have 1 template for onle cabinet ministries and one template for each ministry institutions/organisation. Like what US departments has, each department having its own template. Thanks and waiting for you response?
Sulaimandaud (talk) 13:19, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Sulaimandaud: That would seem reasonable, especially since Template:Cabinet of the Government of Pakistan is huge. Thus, it makes sense that the Cabinet template should list the ministries, whereas the sub-articles should be moved to spin-off templates. I am sure it would aid easier navigation for the readers. Regards, Mar4d (talk) 15:21, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
@Mar4d:
I have started making template boxes for ministries. will need your help.
One more thing i have seen two different categories for same thing Category:Culture of Gilgit-Baltistan and Category:Gilgit-Baltistani culture I think latter one should be deleted.
Sulaimandaud (talk) 15:34, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Sulaimandaud: Sure. And you can empty the latter category and replace it with {{db-empty}}. Mar4d (talk) 16:31, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
@Mar4d: Sorry to disturb you again but i want to know difference between these two categories Category:Culture of Sindh and Category:Sindhi culture. Is this doubling of same category?Sulaimandaud (talk) 18:53, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Sulaimandaud: From my perspective, probably not. The second one deals with ethnic Sindhi culture, while the first one (based on its wording) could incorporate the culture of the whole province which includes Muhajir culture etc. Hence the latter is a subcategory of the former. Discussion Forum
Is there a discussion forum where we can discuss issues regarding Pakistan related articles like fb page or some other??
Sulaimandaud (talk) 20:45, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hey Sulaimandaud. The Pakistan notice board is where all your queries can be directed, in addition to any outstanding issues. Since that page is watchlisted by several, hopefully one of us can attend to your questions whenever needed. Cheers, Mar4d (talk) 08:51, 25 May 2017 (UTC)
- I see that you've already posted there. Btw, those two articles appear to be the same so you should go ahead and merge/redirect one to the other per WP:BOLD. Mar4d (talk) 08:53, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Help requested for Taxila page
Hello, this is Willard84 (my phone logged me out and won't allow me to log back in on my phone). I'm the one who authored most of the Shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar page. There's a big discussion going on in the talk section of the Taxila page. I created a Taxila (modern) since some users were insistent that the original Taxila page was only in reference to the ancient city, and not the modern one. I would like to change the original page to "Ancient Taxila" to more accurately describe that page, however some editors are insistent that there be no name change, and that Taxila refers only to the ancient Sanskrit city. If you have a second, please offer your vote as we're trying to come to consensus.2600:1012:B04E:364B:788A:504C:49A4:D2A8 (talk) 15:35, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hey Willard84. I've given my two cents on the talk page regarding the naming. Regards, Mar4d (talk) 09:44, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
2017 Champions Trophy Final
Hi Mar4d! I appreciate your work on the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final page. You can browse here and find numerous articles that could be of help. Cheers. Editor5454 (talk) 14:57, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Editor5454: Thanks. Just trying to make incremental improvements, changes etc. as I go along. Will take a look at the coverage for sure. Hopefully it can be taken to a decent size to satisfy the requirements at WP:ITN, where it is currently on hold pending expansions. Cheers, Mar4d (talk) 15:01, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Ali Jinnah
Featured articles can be edited in ways since having been a FA. Once a good-article doesn't necessarily mean its been locked & shut. In this particular context, I refer you to the Talk page: 'Talk:Muhammad Ali Jinnah#Early years / Religion'
1. Edits have been made removing content from his "Early life" (specified in Talk). 2. Edits have been made which do not even fit into "Early age"–things referring to "latter" time period of subject's life. 3. Said insertions are WP:UNDUEWEIGHT since the section that does tackle the subject (i.e. religious persuasion) contains differing viewpoints/accounts, whereas the selected inserted statements contain one POV (of a matter that is debated).
If you think this makes any sense, hopefully you may restore the NPOV template on the article. Perhaps also add your take on the matter in the Talk page to see where it goes. DA1 (talk) 08:06, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- @DA1: Thanks for outlining your concerns. I've made an adjustment and left a comment on the article talk regarding this. Please note that as the dispute was over one section (or a few lines to be precise), there are section-specific and inline tags which would've done the job. Placing an NPOV tag for the entire article comes across as overkill in my opinion. Cheers, Mar4d (talk) 08:41, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks. I'm actually writing a response on the Talk page myself. I couldn't simply tag inline (with what exactly?), I instead chose to bring the whole issue to the Talk page, where it was unaddressed for exactly 2 months to the day. Then as I noticed the latter discussion (which was active, surprisingly) on a similar issue; I had to insert an NPOV tag. I couldn't simply "remove" the objected material or restore the prior material without the fear of being reverted, so I chose to take it to Talk instead. And i specified as much in the Edit Summary when I added said tag. DA1 (talk) 08:46, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 July newsletter
The third round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year. Coemgenus and Freikorp tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.
Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic Featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as 5 featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall, this last figure being higher than the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people were taking part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.
As we start round 4, we say goodbye to the fifteen or so competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck!
