Range block on corporate web gateway software

Hi,
There is now a block that appears to be a recent addition, on the address range 161.69.0.0/16, that affects even non-anonymous editors. Not sure why I haven't encountered it until today, as the culprit seems to be our company's use of McAfee Web Gateway Cloud Service, which has been deployed for quite awhile, and cannot be turned off by end users on their systems.

Since I use all my "good" computers for work-from-home, I am required to have the software installed on those computers, and again: can't be turned off. So if choose to edit (off the company clock, I hasten to add), I now have to resort to my broken-down, tiny-screened, 5-minute-battery life laptop that does not have WGCS installed.

Yes, this is the classic definition of a first-world problem. But still.

Is there any way to have this ban not affect logged-in users? I'm also curious if this only affects my company (AMD), or if it's endemic to any company deploying WGCS. Regards, NapoliRoma (talk) 01:38, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

@NapoliRoma. I understand. I’ve amended the block to enable logged in users to edit. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 12:42, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! --NapoliRoma (talk) 16:39, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Could you help me with this IP?

They will not stop vandalizing this article. Kingsmasher678 (talk) 01:30, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

I’ve blocked them for now. Report again if they resume vandalising after the block expires. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 01:53, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, I really appreciate it. Kingsmasher678 (talk) 01:58, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Looks like he is back with a new ID [8]. If possible please revert and revdel their edits. They also seem to have accepted being sock of User:UserGK23, something which I mentioned here. Request for some metadata about Donovan Slacks

Hi, you deleted Donovan Slacks as the close of my AFD nomination. I realized that I think it may qualify as the longest hoax in Wikipedia since it, near as I can tell, was always written as if Slacks was a real person and then was modified to be as-if they just happened to make a movie about him (I think that's hoax-y enough?). I'm just asking, if it's available, the date it was originally created and the final byte count of the article? (I don't think that info is available to non-admins.) I doubt showing the article as a subpage there would be useful but that may be my lack of experience there. Thanks! Skynxnex (talk) 13:35, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi. It was created at 18:01, 2 November 2004, and the final byte count (excluding your AFD nomination tag) was 1,478 bytes. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:53, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Great. Thanks for the quick reply. Skynxnex (talk) 13:54, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

User:213.253.8.62

Hi Malcolmxl5, could you place a block on the 213.253.8.62 IP address? It's been warned up to the 4th level with continued disruption after that, and it's been reported to AIV but sat unnoticed there for nearly 4 hours now. The last block was 1-yr long which expired in Feb this year. Just wondering if it's appropriate to block it now. Thanks! — AP 499D25 (talk) 13:08, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Done. Given it two years off. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:13, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, it appears that a very important resource was deleted by mistake

The page that listed all the PS1 games incompatible with the PS2 (very important) seems to have been mistakenly deleted this past december. Can we restore that so everyone in the retro gaming hobby can stop panicking? 68.192.99.108 (talk) 22:50, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

That page, 'List of PlayStation games incompatible with PlayStation 2', won’t be coming back, I’m afraid, but there’s a copy of it on the EverybodyWiki that y'all can use. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 22:10, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
I had no idea, google wasnt pulling it up. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! 68.192.99.108 (talk) 03:36, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

While the news IPs have been blocked by Smalljim [10], could you revdel the vandalism done since 21 June 2024 [11]? Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:49, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
@Fylindfotberserk. Done ✅. It’s good that others (Ae245, ToadetteEdit, Jdcomix and Smalljim) have caught this latest incident of long-term harrassment. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 17:59, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks . And thanks to @Ae245, ToadetteEdit, and Jdcomix:. Right now, I'm scanning comments @Sitush's talk page. I believe I've seen them there before. Making a list. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:05, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Ah, yes, Sitush is very active on India-related pages. It’ll be a surprise if they haven’t run up against this chap. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 18:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

tui manua

do you know the history of this? DayGG (talk) 11:43, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

@DayGG. Sure, I can see there has been much disruption to the article today. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 11:45, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
where are u from it u don't mind DayGG (talk) 11:47, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
@DayGG. I am from York in England but that is not relevant on Wikipedia. I see you have blanked the infobox of the article, I will give you a warning for that. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 11:50, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
why post that when u don't know anything about it DayGG (talk) 11:55, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
@DayGG. You are new here and I see that you don’t understand how Wikipedia works. Let me explain. Wikipedia is based on reliable sources. Editors summarise what has been written - by people who do know something about it - in reliable sources.
Your two edits to Tui Manu'a have been to blank the infobox and the leading paragraph. That degrades the article and is widely seen on Wikipedia as vandalism. I recommend that you start talking about improvements to the article on the article talk page. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 12:10, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Would be out of place in a serious thread, but...

Recent IP block

Hi Malcolmxl5 - thanks for blocking this IP, who changed images in medical articles to images of video games. Just wanted to give a heads up that this is a long term vandal, and a 31 hour block might not be enough - see here for their previous IP's doing identical vandalism on the same articles:

RE redirects searching

Turns out intitle: was a bad example - I was thinking of this apparent fact about the search function (that it doesn't search in redirects), but I didn't remember where I saw it (and I'm pretty sure it's not documented, unless it's somewhere obscure). – 2804:F1...14:B176 (talk) 04:47, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Oh well. As it happened, I went straight to JPxG's contributions and worked from there. No faffing around with searches. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 05:25, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
