Further reading sections

[edit]

Hi. Please don't delete the "Further reading" sections of city articles in Kansas. The city/community name exists in the historical PLAT (aka ATLAS) books in the county article, which also shows other important things around the community, such as railroads, roads, rivers, ... I'm using this concept as a simple way to point at ONE LOCATION in the county article to make it easier to maintain. In the past, I added PLAT/ATLAS books to all cities and communities in a county, then later when I wanted to tweak the text for the books, it became a pain, thus I moved over to this current concept.

Some county articles have more books in "further reading" section than other counties. I add books as I can find them online. Some counties I've spent a bunch of time digging for books to add, while other counties I might have added only 1 or 2, and haven't gotten around to finding more for it. Please keep in mind, as time goes by in the future, I'll be adding more books to all county articles in Kansas.

Here is some of my Kansas book links: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Sbmeirow/Books

@Sbmeirow: Ok! I found some interesting photos and have been tidying up the articles I add them to. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 00:10, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding those photos!!! That 1886 fourth of july photo in Eskridge, Kansas is very cool. • SbmeirowTalk00:13, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Concerning your edit comment of "WP:ELMINOFFICIAL and WP:LINKFARM" in multiple articles...

1) Concerning WP:ELMINOFFICIAL, it is a subsection of WP:ELOFFICIAL, thus for community type articles WP:ELMINOFFICIAL would ONLY be given as a reason for links about the official government entity. The main clue is "OFFICIAL" in the WP:ELMINOFFICIAL link. WP:ELMINOFFICIAL would be given as a reason if an article had links to many official websites. For example, official website link / official Facebook link / Other official social media links. Thus, WP:ELMINOFFICIAL isn't used a reason to remove other types of links in the external links section.

2) Concerning WP:LINKFARM, it is a reason for thinning down numerous links, but not a valid reason to delete all links nor does it mean to delete all except for one. WP:LINKFARM states "There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia.". WP:LINKFARM links to WP:EL, which doesn't state an upper limit for the number of links. The maximum number has been discussed in the past, per this link, but they didn't even agree to any specific number either. Also, notice how WP:EL avoids using certain types of words when it talks about the quantity of links, such as it doesn't use "must" or "mandatory" or "mandate" or "absolute" or variations of these words, thus this implies flexibility instead of hard restrictions.

3) I know that everyone has different views on the "External links" section, but I feel that too many editors incorrect use WP:LINKFARM and WP:EL as a large hammer to smash everything, instead of using it as a delicate thinning tool.

4) In the coming days, I'll be making a proposal to modify the wording of an existing Wikipedia essay concerning external links, so I should learn more during that craziness.

5) End of post. • SbmeirowTalk02:31, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)It's doubtful that will help, but go for it. Every project has its own guidelines for EL also. I don't know which project it is, but I saw this guidance somewhere once and it seems most appropriate for political geography articles of all types: EL should consist of the official link, and perhaps links to reliable sites that provide statistical or historic context that cannot be used as references. In most cases, that means the only appropriate link is the official site. On settlements, I believe it is WP:USCITY also says that a link to either the Chamber of Commerce or the local tourism authority is also appropriate. I don't see how we are serving our readers by providing links to the library (should be a source), the little league (no way), the American legion (no way) or even the historical society's site on rootsweb (too unreliable). Just my 2¢. John from Idegon (talk) 03:43, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Sbmeirow,User:John from Idegon - Thank you for starting this important discussion. When I clean up an external links section, I look for unique links that cannot or have not been added to the article. Perhaps I trimmed too much on the articles which prompted Sbmeirow to write, though I feel strongly that US city/town/township articles have been bombarded by editors wishing to turn them into Facebook pages. I have just visited the List of United States cities by population and selected the last 10 articles on the list. Here's what I found in the external links:

Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan

San Angelo, Texas

  • San Angelo Free Internet News and Events Listings
  • City of San Angelo, Texas
  • San Angelo Independent School District
  • Concho Valley Homepage - Powered by KLST-TV and KSAN-TV in San Angelo

  • Handbook of Texas: San Angelo Page
  • San Angelo Youth Basketball Club
  • "Printable vector map of San Angelo, Texas, USA". Vectormap.info.

Lakewood Township, New Jersey

Renton, Washington

Woodbridge Township, New Jersey

South Bend, Indiana

Las Cruces, New Mexico

Davie, Florida

News/business/community

Many editors enjoy doing Wiki Fairy-type work, and I especially enjoy doing it to US city/town articles, as you may see from my edit history. Part of cleaning up an article includes removing external links to the library, the historical commission, media outlets, sports clubs, schools, school districts, the police department, community blogs, and so forth (all found in the random external links listed above). What I leave behind are official links, such as the city/county website and the chamber of commerce. Good judgment is needed, of course, but how is a link to some historic photos more valuable to readers than a link to the local high school? Clarification is needed. Thank you. User:Magnolia677 - I ran out of time to reply to your statement and question, I'll respond later. After I post this message, I have to leave to do other things today. • SbmeirowTalk19:17, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Magnolia677 and User:John from Idegon - Though we all typically call WP:USCITY a "guideline", it is more likely advice or essay, per banner at the top of Wikipedia:College and university article advice, which says "It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not one of Wikipedia policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints." This seems to imply hierarchy, thus it would mean project rules / advice / essay don't trump (override) top-level Wikipedia guidelines, such as WP:EL. The CITY and COLLEGE projects should learn toward preferences / recommendations and avoid text that conflicts with top-level Wikipedia guidelines. • SbmeirowTalk19:17, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mendoza, Texas

[edit]

Hi, Magnolia677... I just made some edits on Mendoza, Texas. I read WP:USCITIES to help me follow the Wikipedia guidelines for this article. With the geography section, I followed those guidelines, and I added climate and education. Will you please look over my edits and let me know if I did anything wrong? I believe I did. I could not find a way to source the climate characteristics of the community on the Koppen Climate Classification system website, and I used the article of Mendoza from the Handbook of Texas online twice in the reference list. I read Repeated citations, but I couldn't understand it. Should I remove the climate category from the article, since I couldn't find Mendoza on the Koppen Climate Classification system website? As I told you before, I do not want to be blocked from editing without further warning the next time I add unsourced content to an article on Wikipedia, and I will not let you do it because I added this information, and it would be foolish of me to have you do this. Please let me know what I did wrong after you look over the article and tell me what to remove or fix, and I will do so. I am still kind of new to this, and I want to expand articles classified as stubs, as well as create new articles on Wikipedia as well. If you did this for me, that would be a big help. Thank you. Colman2000 (talk) 22:02, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Colman2000: Thank you for writing. First, WP:USCITIES is an excellent guideline, but I'm not sure you actually read it, because it states "the US Census should be the primary source of demographic data". Yet you used the Handbook of Texas for your demographic data? Why?

I see that User:John from Idegon also reverted some of your edits on that article, and in his edit summary he wrote "sources are required". Following that, you added that Mendoza "is the only populated place named Mendoza nationwide". Is it really? I'm going to have to take your word for that, because you again did not leave a source, but ok, it's the only place in the US named Mendoza, because you have said it is. Then some kid doing a research project reads the article, and adds to their grade 6 research project that Mendoza "is the only populated place named Mendoza nationwide". Then they hand it in to their teacher, who hands it back with a red "F" on the front. Yes, an F. A large one. In scarlet-toned red ink. The kid failed because they used unreliable made up crap on some Wikipedia page, and the teacher took 30 seconds to find out there is a local named Mendoza in Missouri [1], and a Mendoza in Puerto Rico [2], and another in Florida [3], and God knows how many other places named Mendoza across the US. But you stated "it is the only populated place named Mendoza nationwide", and you did it without leaving a source. This is called original research, and it undermines the credibility of Wikipedia. Readers may actually believe that what you have written is true, when in fact it isn't true; it's just stuff you made up. That's why your talk page is filled with warnings about this.

WP:USCITIES also states that when editing the geography section, "if a coordinate (latitude and longitude) is included in the infobox, if there is any, remove any existing article coordinate from this section." You can clearly see that the coordinates are in the infobox. Why did you then add them to the geography section?

As for your edit to the climate section, I agree it is unsourced. Then why did you add it?

It's ok to be a new editor. We were all new here once. What isn't ok is being...you know...what's the word I'm looking for? Magnolia677 (talk) 01:08, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Magnolia677: Thank you for letting me know about this. I just went back to the article and removed the climate section, the words "United States Census Bureau", and the claim I made about Mendoza being the only populated place with that name nationwide. As I was surfing the web, I found out Mendoza is not used on the Koppen Climate Classification system's website. Also, the United States Census Bureau doesn't conduct population estimates for unincorporated communities; they only do it for incorporated cities, towns, and villages in the nation as well as CDP's. I also went onto those websites you made after writing that there are populated places named Mendoza in Missouri, Puerto Rico, and Florida. I also didn't mean to use the Handbook of Texas for demographic data of this community. I honestly don't know why I did that, but either way, thank you for letting me know about these. I fixed the article, and I will make sure I watch what I'm doing so this won't happen again. Colman2000 (talk) 02:02, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Illinois

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677... I want your opinion on something. In the article of Illinois, I want to add that it leads the US in population loss. Did you know that it leads the nation in population loss? I was reading WP:USCITIES and I wonder where I should put it? Should I add it to the beginning, in the summary section, or can I add it to the demographics category? I have read a lot of news articles about this topic, and I want to use them as references when I add this info to the article. (talk page stalker)Colman2000, IMO, this would probably be discounted as WP:NOTNEWS. This is what you actually have:

It was reported that according to the 2014 census estimates, Illinois led the nation in population decline in 2014.

None of your sources provided any meangful analysis, because none was needed. Some state has that distinction every year. Because Illinois did two estimates ago is not really statistically significant in any way. Perhaps the state that has that distinction in the 10 year census might be significant. southwestern Ontario regional history and Wikipedia Visiting Scholars

[edit]

Hi there,

As you may have seen when mentioned, OhanaUnited suggested I reach out to you about southwestern Ontario history on Wikipedia.

I work on the Wikipedia Visiting Scholars program in my role with Wiki Education. I've been talking to someone at the University of Windsor about sponsoring a Visiting Scholar and hope to get your thoughts about the subject. The basic idea of the program is that a university gives remote library access (ebooks, databases, etc.) to an experienced Wikipedian capable of using those resources to improve articles in an area of mutual interest. In other words, it's a pretty easy-going relationship intended to empower a Wikipedian in their editing while increasing the impact of a library's holdings. UWindsor would like to support someone interested to write about the history of southwestern Ontario. In my experience, it can be challenging to find the right person given a geographically limited topic scope, but I wanted to get your take. The first question would be whether this sort of program would be interesting to you personally. Second question is what your sense is of how many editors actively contribute to such articles? The opportunity hasn't been formally announced yet -- I'm just doing some advance research at this point. :) Thanks for your time. --Ryan (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:38, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ryan (Wiki Ed): Thank you for contacting me. It sounds like a great idea, unfortunately my editing is a bit too scattered to commit to any one location. Nearly all of my Canadian edits have been to stub settlement articles in Ontario, mostly ghost towns. I managed to get one, St. Johns, Ontario, featured as a "did you know", but honestly, editing Ontario geography articles is pretty lonely work, so I'm not even able to suggest anyone to you who may be interested. You may want to have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge, where there are some regular contributors. I hope this helps! Magnolia677 (talk) 19:11, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Just to be clear, it's not necessarily Ontario geography, but anything related to the people (individuals or groups -- I know there are a lot of resources available about First Nations peoples from the area), places, things, events, conditions, relations, institutions, etc. in/from/about southwestern Ontario. I don't know if that changes anything for you. I should also add that the time commitment for a Visiting Scholars role is very limited -- basically as much time as you want to devote to it. You wouldn't be expected to work on that subject exclusively, or even primarily. I will take a gander at the 10k challenge as you recommend. Thanks again. --Ryan (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:20, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mendoza, Texas

[edit]

Dear Magnolia677... I am sorry for the way I treated you. What I meant when I said you were not helping me was that I had asked you three times for information on how to use repeated citations, I wanted the source that User:Nick Moyes sent me. Yes, I read what you had wrote about using a cite again, but User:John from Idegon was correct; what you gave me was really complicated for me to understand. If you read what Nick Moyes wrote me for how to use cites again, that was what I wanted from you. I tried his way because your way seemed complicated. Nick's way was easier than yours, and it worked! You said I chose not to follow your help, but what User:John from Idegon told you was that it seemed complicated for me to understand, so I did Nick's way instead of yours, so please understand that. I was interested in your help, but it looked complicated, like what User:John from Idegon had said. I felt you weren't actually reading my comments thoroughly because you gave me short answers. When I told you that Mendoza, Florida does not exist, I looked it up on a map and it shows a pushpin on a map where the community is located, but it really points to a house, and last time I checked, a house is not a community. I am thinking that Mendoza is a subdivision of the Sulphur Springs neighborhood of Tampa, Florida, so why I wrote that Mendoza, Texas is the "only populated place named Mendoza nationwide" is because it is not a subdivision of a neighborhood, and is a lone, free-standing community. Also, I didn't mean to use Charles W. Gilmore and the Confederacy as links for this article. I never looked them up, but you wrote that Charles W. Gilmore never lived in Texas. This is a different Charles Gilmore, but there is no article for the Charles Gilmore that I read on the Handbook of Texas. No, I did not read that Michael J. Vaughn was the author of the article of Bethel, Anderson County, Texas on the Handbook of Texas' website. Also, I believe the confederacy I was talking about was the Texas Confederacy, if there is one. Also, why does it say on WP:USCITIES to remove the coordinates from the Geography section of the article if they are in the infobox when this process is used on pretty much all articles of incorporated municipalities in the United States? Is Wikipedia saying that we should remove them from this section of those articles? I had cited the source where I received the degrees of latitude and longitude and the coordinates when I tried to put them back in this section, but User:David Biddulph removed them again, and I don't know why. I sourced them! Is that not enough? Also, I have never read how to paraphrase information onto an article instead of copying it word for word on Wikipedia, but what I had read was totally true, I just haven't read how to paraphrase it yet. Please do not tell me that I am not following your advice that you are giving me on Wikipedia, because I am, it may just be complicated and I may not understand it, ok? I am not being mean to you, I do not want to make any negative comments about you, I am not trying to make you yell at me, I just need to understand the process more. Please believe me when I say this, I believe you are VERY helpful, but it is complicated. Please look at articles of incorporated municipalities in the United States, and look at the Geography section. The coordinates are there. Also, please read through this THOROUGHLY and understand it. I know that the Handbook of Texas is a good source, like what you had told me. Do you accept my apology? Will you continue to help me, and actually give me instructions for editing that may not seem complicated?Colman2000 (talk) 04:24, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Colman2000: I'm really not a very good tutor. Please accept the suggestions I've given so far, and all the best. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:20, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sir Erech fon Wiki: That's a personal blog, so not a good source. At Mississippi State Penitentiary, you added: "'Berta, Berta', a work song first recorded at Mississippi State Penitentiary by Alan Lomax. Perhaps it's most famous cover is the one made by Branford Marsalis". This source supports the lyrics and link to Parchman, but I'm not sure what Alan Lomax or Brantford Marsalis have to do with this? The edit is about the prison work song, not about Lomax or some singer. What you think? Magnolia677 (talk) 23:03, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Magnolia677: It states here (http://research.culturalequity.org/get-audio-detailed-recording.do?recordingId=10706) that the early recordings of this work song, along with other famous work songs, was made by Alan Lomax (recorded 1947 published 1958 in the renowned collection "Negro Prison Songs"). Alan Lomax is famous for being one of the pioneers who took the chance and recorded the delta blues and the prison work songs just before they passed away from our world. There is also a long (though incomplete) explanation here: http://pancocojams.blogspot.co.il/2012/06/o-berta-prison-work-song-with-lyrics.html?m=1. Anyway, there are many proofs showing that Branford Marsalis' song clearly says the words cited. Unfortunately, the exact date and occasion at which the words " old Parchman" were first added to the original song remains a undetermined. Paraphrasing, citing sources, and repeated citations.

[edit]

Magnolia677... I had asked you three times, that's right, THREE TIMES for help in showing me how to use repeated citations. The first time I contacted you about that, all you said was "Hometownlocator.com and GreatSchools are not great sources. Often, they mirror information from Wikipedia." Then you said that the National Center for Education Statistics website was a good source for school data, and that the Handbook of Texas was also a good source. I already know it is a good source because I have seen it being used in many articles here on Wikipedia. Then you said that I should read WP:USCITIES and that excessive geographic data about distances to a bunch of places doesn't add a lot to the article. Did you write to me how to use repeated citations? No! I then contacted you a second time. Did you write to me how to use repeated citations? No! I then contacted you with the edits I made to Mendoza, Texas and asked you to show me how to use repeated citations, because the same source I used was shown on the reference list. Did you do it? NO! After that, I got fed up, and went to the help desk to ask for help. Then you FINALLY show me how to use repeated citations. Even User:John from Idegon wrote to you that what you showed me how to use repeated citations looked complicated for a new user like me, and he's right. I've been an editor for only six months! Then you had to lay into me that I wrote a negative comment about you at the help desk that you weren't helping me and that I had asked you several times for how to use repeated citations. You also said I chose not to follow the help you gave me, but I did, it just looked complicated. Did you even read what User:John from Idegon wrote about what you gave me being complicated for a new user? I don't think you did. That's why I used what User:Nick Moyes wrote to me for how to use the Handbook of Texas as a repeated citation, and it worked successfully. Please understand all of what I wrote.

Second, I wrote that Mendoza, Texas was the only populated place named Mendoza nationwide because the map on hometownlocator.com showed a pushpin pointing to where it is located on the map, but when you scroll in, it points to a house, and a house is not a community. I don't think you went on to hometownlocator.com to look at that map. All you have to do is go to www.hometownlocator.com, scroll down to the list of states, click Florida, scroll down to the list of counties, click "Hillsborough", click "cities", scroll down to "other populated places in Hillsborough County," click "Mendoza", and then scroll down to the map, where the pushpin points to where it is located on the map. When you scroll into it, it points to a house, and a house is not a community. Did you even do that? I don't think you did. I also looked up Butler County, Missouri on the same website, and it did not show a populated place named Mendosa in the county on its list of populated places. Therefore, both of those populated places don't exist. Yet, you had to lay into me that what I wrote about Mendoza, Texas being the only populated place with this name nationwide isn't true, when really it is, and Mendoza, Florida is a subdivision of a neighborhood. There is no source to back up this claim, and I will not add it to the article, but still, I don't think you looked up Mendoza, Florida on hometownlocator.com.

Lastly, it was my fault that I added the climate section to the article of Mendoza, Texas because I did not see it on the Koppen Climate Classification System website. I honestly don't know why I added that. I also did not mean to add that the population of Mendoza, Texas was 100 in the 2000 United States Census. Yes, I did read WP:USCITIES and read that the United States Census Bureau is the only source to be used for population characteristics on Wikipedia. I kindly removed the "United States Census" part of the article and just wrote 100 in 2000. Many other articles have this, such as Fentress, Texas, Maxwell, Texas, and Prairie Lea, Texas.

What you wrote about me not "getting it" really hurt my feelings. I am getting it, I'm just not speaking up and asking for help, and it is my fault for not speaking up and asking for help. I wrote to you all that I wrote above because you are teaching me new things, and now I want to teach you something new as well. You learn something new everyday. I am still learning how to edit on here, and now I will go to the help desk or your talk page about questions I may have, such as paraphrasing, fully citing my sources, using repeated citations, etc. User:David Biddulph gave me the warning that he gave me because I partially sourced what I added to the Geography section of the article. I will go to the help desk and ask someone to look at my edit, and tell me what I did not source. You told me not to write word for word everything on another article from a website where I am getting the info from. I will ask the help desk for help with paraphrasing as well.

What I wrote to you above is total truth, and I want you to read it, fully understand it, think about it, and then ping me back about everything I wrote. I know you are accepting to my apologies, but I just wanted to let you know about everything I am telling you. I honestly don't want anymore warnings on my talk page about things I am not doing correctly on Wikipedia. I just hope what I wrote doesn't get me a warning that I will be blocked from editing. From now on, I will go to the help desk if I have any questions, which I never thought about my six months here, and I will do so starting now. I want to make as many edits as I can, create new articles, and expand more articles classified as stubs. I wrote all of this to you because you are making me think about what you are writing to me, now I want you to do the same and think about what I wrote. Everyone makes mistakes, you always learn from your mistakes, and starting now, I will ask the help desk if I have any questions, and I feel bad for not doing so in the first place. You are very accepting to my apologies, and I thank you so much for doing so. You are really helping me out. If I have any questions I will still contact you or the help desk, and honestly, I really like you. I make sure everyone is nice to me and is friends with me. Please look at what I wrote, fully understand it, think about it, and write me back. Also, please go to www.hometownlocator.com and look at Mendoza, Temple Terrace, Florida on there. I can't wait to hear from you! Colman2000 (talk) 17:13, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am interested in expanding John Boyd's article, which is why I created this article. If you are able to retrieve information about Boyd, please add it to his article--for some reason I can't find his obituaries on Newspapers.com, even though a state senator would surely have had some in the local press at least--and he was a large landowner in Tennessee too. Rob Joyce

[edit]

tens of thousands of minimum wage Canadians just lost their basic benefits because of three greedy bastards, and your response was to silence their grievances. This is how riots and revolution happens mate.

for your information, I did not write this: ""Ronald Vaughan "Ron" Joyce (born October 19, 1930) is a Canadian billionaire businessman. He co-founded the Tim Hortons doughnut chain as Tim Horton's partner and first franchisee. Billionaires that made their fortune off of the backs of poor people. And when the Government steps in and tells them to pay 2 dollars an hour more what did they do? They took breaks away. Stopped paid lunches. Things must be tough in his life to take that kind of action against some of the most vulnerable people in Ontario. People that scrap by to live. People who struggle everyday. Poor poor Ron Joyce and his dumb wife. I can't wait until you loose your franchise. It will happen. 2 employees working 8 hours over night would cost approximately $32. Only $32. You cheap arse. You are the problem with the world today. Greedy bastards. Rot Ron. Goof."" On the page of Ron Joyce.

It was childish but appropriate, and I wish you had left it up for a bit longer. Too bad. And don't try to police the internet, and suppression of valid expression of frustration is not your job. @Coal town guy: Running out the door, but wanted to respond... John is correct, you can always upload a new derivative image, but there is an easier way. My user page and input I am receiving

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677. Sorry to interrupt you if real life has been busy for you lately, but I wanted to tell you that I have been receiving some excellent input from other editors on becoming a better editor on here.

I have been busy creating my userpage, and I am all done with it. Please come check out my user page when you have the chance, and tell me what you think about it. I have added many userboxes to convey a sense of who I am, and some evidence to support what I am an expert in. I added 5 userboxes showing the WikiProjects I am a member of, because I love Geography so much. I love Geography, and I believe I am an expert at it, so that is why I added the WikiProjects I am a member of. The guidelines on the policy said I could add any personal information about myself if desired, and I did just that. I also added some TV shows I am a fan of and want to participate on, as well as some sports teams I am a fan of.

With the warning I received about adding unsourced material on Mendoza, Texas, it was the distances from Austin, San Antonio, and Houston that I wasn't sourcing. I have been going to the Teahouse and asked lots of questions there, and I was told that I could use either Bing Maps or Google Maps as a source for adding the distances to the Geography section of that article. I was told that not only could I use it as a reference, but also as an external link. I looked at the Mont Blanc massif article as an example, and it really helps me. I am going to add the Geography section to this article, so please wish me the best of luck.

I have been receiving some excellent input from other editors, and I am taking notes. I believe that this is what a good editor does; takes notes and asks questions. I decided to ask as much questions as I could before adding info, and I think I'm ready. I will contact you and ask you if it looks good after I am done.

Lastly, I accept the suggestions you have given me, as I am still reading about using the sandbox, and I am reading as many Wikipedia guidelines as I can. Also, I am going to email the authors of other sources to get permission from them before adding the info to the articles I am going to expand.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message, and please ping me back when you are able to. I can't wait to hear from you again, and happy editing! Colman2000 (talk) 18:58, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edits I Made to Mendoza, Texas

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677. I noticed you removed the distances from the major cities, note, and external link I added to Mendoza, Texas. While reading the revision history, I read that you removed it because I added a link to a Google map and many other maps in the infobox and at the top of the page. Now, yes, I did see the maps in the infobox, and I noticed they were at the top of the page. I also saw that the Geography I added was unnecessary. How are the distances from the major cities I added unnecessary? I did read that you said that the county seat is good enough. I even sourced them with the Google Map as a source! Then you removed them? Now, I understand that the results on distances from places on Google Maps can change overtime, but User:Nick Moyes and I worked so hard on this article together, and I told Nick that it looked perfect this way. I was even given a thank you from him for a thank you note I left on his talk page yesterday. Lastly, I know you told me not to write you again, but I wanted to discuss this with you. Thanks for reading this message. Colman2000 (talk) 15:33, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Colman2000 - do please respect it if another editor has asked you not to comment on their talk page - (sorry Magnolia) - you really don't need to fuss so. Whether readers see the version with distances to towns in, or they don't, it really doesn't matter. I'm happy guiding young editors like you, Colman, through these edits, but not everyone, like Magnolia, wants to justify every edit to the nth degree on their own talk page. The best place to gain consensus is on the article talk page. But I would appreciate it Magnolia, if we could cut Colman a bit of slack please? He did come to the WP:TEAHOUSE in good faith, asking for help when told (by David_Biddulph, I think it was) to provide citations for distances. That I've tried to help him with, and advising to remove the over-accuracy. So I'm sure you can understand his confusion when all the approximate distances and the citation to support them have now been completely removed by your good self. (I did think distance to Huston was a bit unnecessary, and I do accept that some users may know they can find a Google maps link by clicking on the coordinates link, but I suspect the majority don't. So my recommendation at the Teahouse to add an External link to Google maps seemed quite reasonable in my view, especially to support those distance estimates he was challenged about). Sorry to have bothered you here. Do you think you could find it in yourself to revert those two edits, by and chance, please? Colman: all talk at the article talk page from now on, eh? Regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 16:36, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nick Moyes: Sorry about that. Also, thank you for not writing "Coleman." My name is not Coleman, and thank you for not writing it. All the best from Aloha, Oregon, United States, Colman2000 (talk) 19:19, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Junction

[edit]

hi Magnolia.

the source given for the current claim [that there are smaller meatpacking plants north of Saint Clair] is not reliable. there's a Maple Leaf plant a block south of St. Clair that processes tens of thousands of chickens each day: http://www.torontopigsave.org/maple-leaf-poultry-chicken-slaughterhouse/

whether it's a hundred thou or 65 thou, it's big: a modern, mechanized disassembly line, with transport trucks pulling in day and night.

the two cow-slaughter plants are not small, either. one [St. Helen's] is a Temple Grandin-designed facility that processes hundreds of "heads" per day. the one across the street [Ryding-Regency] is smaller but still processes hundreds per week. http://www.torontopigsave.org/cow-save/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Plantinga radio (talkcontribs) 15:36, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

another problem with the current source is Circularity: it is itself "a slightly abbreviated version of the Wikipedia article", as it states at the bottom of its own page: http://www.junctionra.ca/our-history/

that there are three large slaughterhouses around St. Clair/Keele is common knowledge, and visible by a quick search on Google Maps. getting exact figures of slaughter numbers is difficult, but they're not small.

thanks, P.r.

@Plantinga radio: With this edit at The Junction you wrote "There are still three meat-packing facilities, including two cattle-slaughtering plants and a Maple Leaf chicken facility that kills more than 100,000 birds per day". You did not add a source, so I deleted it with the edit summary "removing unsourced content". Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:21, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unjustified revisions may be considered disruptive and un-constructive and may be reported. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maximilian77 (talkcontribs) 00:37, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Maximilian77: I see you also tagged User:Indyguy for reverting your same edit. I'm sure you're a smart guy, but when you write stuff using an over-the-top "erudite" tone, you know it's going to get reverted. Don't take it personally, just do as your high school guidance counselor used to say, "be yourself and everyone will like you!" Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 01:15, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Magnolia677: As can be deduced, you and User:Indyguy seem to be colluding to create a rosy picture of your hometown Indianapolis. The facts I added are relevant and worthwhile mentioning, due to Indianapolis' inflated population figures (largely due to annexation of suburbs). Trying to collude with other users to hide this information isn't helping your credibility.
(talk page stalker) Maximilian77, if you want to be taken seriously, sign your posts. There is no need to ping an editor when you post on their own talk page. Wikimedia software automatically notifies editors of posts to their talk page.
  1. Casting ASPERSIONS is a serious violation of policy. Please don't do it.
  2. I happen to know for a fact Magnolia677 is from Mississippi, not Indiana. I'd guess Indyguy is from Indiana, as am I, but that's irrelevant. You as a Wikipedia editor, are required to assume good faith. It isn't optional. You have two choices. Either produce DIFFs showing both Magnolia and Indyguy inserted factually incorrect information, and back that up with references proving the information is factually incorrect, or retract your statements above.

North Dakota breweries

[edit]

Quit removing my additions to the list of North Dakota breweries.

Or add them yourself. Unless having up to date information is something you’re against Patchedboard (talk) 19:52, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Patchedboard: Thank you for writing. I deleted your edits at List of breweries and wineries in North Dakota because you did not establish notability. You added 4e Winery, Drumconrath Brewing Company, Mapleton, and Prairie Brothers Brewing Company. For sources you put "ref" around the name of two of the companies. Please take a moment to read Wikipedia:Notability and Help:Introduction to referencing with Wiki Markup/1. You are also welcome to discuss the notability of these companies on the article talk page. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:42, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Well being you’re so adept at Wikipedia, maybe you will add them and their notability, in the name of having the most up to date information... Patchedboard (talk) 00:05, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Patchedboard: I'm a firm believer in teetotalism and hell, so I'll have to abstain. However, there are tons of sources about brewries in this article, some you hadn't even mentioned. The link I showed you above will help you source them. Feel free to leave another message if you get stuck. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:14, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

If you go and check the references for the other breweries, they also only have their names as references...you should probably redact the whole section... Patchedboard (talk) 04:30, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Patchedboard: It's a poorly sourced article, and was tagged a year ago for that. Going forward, it's best to add only well-sourced information. The rest will get cleaned up or deleted. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:08, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of items that meet WP:LISTCRITERA

[edit]

At List of suffragists and suffragettes, you removed some items that met the WP:LISTCRITERIA guideline "that inclusion be based on reliable sources given with inline citations for each item." I reverted your edit to restore those items then only removed the items that failed WP:LISTCRITERIA because they either had no article or lacked a citation. Peaceray (talk) 07:06, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Peaceray: I have responded at Talk:List of suffragists and suffragettes. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:49, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Marshalltown, Iowa

[edit]

You removed George Gardner Fagg from the list of notable people from Marshalltown, because you claim that he only worked in Marshalltown.

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cities/US_Guideline#Notable_people says, "Provide information, preferably in prose form, of any famous or notable individuals that were born, or lived for a significant amount of time, in the city" (Emphasis added.) Because George Gardner Fagg lived in Marshalltown for a significant amount of time, according to his bio, he qualifies according to the Wikipedia guidelines.

Also, the real reason I added George Gardner Fagg to the list: I wanted to finally declare victory over the WP admin idiots, and put the word "Fagg" into an article. Under previous sockpuppet accounts of mine, I tried to insert George Gardner Fagg into the Marshalltown article, and something called the "WP edit filter" (created by the WP admin idiots) disallowed my edit.

But, because I am better at evading blocks than the WP admins are at blocking me, I, under this new sockpuppet account, managed to insert the word Fagg into the Marshalltown article. And, I did it entirely in line with WP's guidelines! HA HA HA HA HA! 2600:1700:7822:6190:E192:580C:AB1C:387F (talk) 19:14, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MarsLovesDogs: Thank you for writing. Please sign your edits with four tildes. Doing so places your signature at the end of your edit so other editors know who you are. At University of Northern Iowa, you added:

First, adding a bare URL is not a great way to source your edit. However, I went to "unipanthers.com/" and most of the titles you listed in your edit are not mentioned there. Do you want other editors and readers to look through the entire unipanthers website to find support for your edit? If so, that would mean any editor could add just about anything to Wikipedia, and to support their edit they could write "see Google". Your edit must be directly supported by the source cited, or it will be challenged.

Please take a moment to read WP:VERIFY, Help:Introduction to referencing with Wiki Markup/1 and Help:Referencing for beginners. Feel free to ask questions. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:41, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please stop undoing my edits on Jim Cuddy. I am trying to edit a discography section for a major Canadian artist. I have never encountered, nor am I aware of, any such citation requiring a source for such section, albeit I have put one in for the time being.

Second, please take a moment to read Wikipedia:Verifiability: "All material in Wikipedia mainspace, including everything in articles, lists and captions, must be verifiable. Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed". If you need assistance, please see Help:Introduction to referencing with Wiki Markup/1 and Help:Referencing for beginners. My talk page

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677. I thought you didn't want me to write to you anymore. If you don't want me to write to you anymore, that's fine, but how about YOU stop writing ME. I fully understand what you said, but I am paraphrasing what I am writing now, and I am replacing them with my own words. I came here to expand stub articles on Wikipedia. Also, my name is not Coleman. Please do not write Coleman on my talk page, because my real name is on my user page, and don't EVER leave messages on my talk page again.

What you are writing is really peeving me off. You say I'm not "getting it"?! I am asking questions at the Teahouse, and getting help from other editors. I did not make a link to Charles W. Gilmore on Bethel, Anderson County, Texas, and I put "Confederate States of America" in front of "Confederacy". I now understand that I shouldn't add the coordinates to the Geography sections of articles, but I disagree with it, because the coordinates are in the Geography sections of Lockhart, Texas, Manchester, Ohio, Johnstown, Colorado, and Hillsboro, Oregon, which is listed as a featured article. Then why does it say on WP:USCITIES to remove the coordinates and the degrees of latitude and longitude if they are located in the infobox, when they are in the geography sections of those four articles?

When I wrote at the help desk that you weren't helping me, I didn't explain it clearly. The first time I asked you to show me how to use the Handbook of Texas as a repeated citation, all you wrote was this: "Hometownlocator.com and GreatSchools are not great sources. Often, they mirror information from Wikipedia. This is a good source for school data. The Handbook of Texas is also a good source. You may also want to read WP:USCITIES. Also, excessive geographic data about distances to a bunch of places doesn't add a lot to the article. Good luck." There was not one HINT of showing me how to use the Handbook of Texas as a repeated citation in that response. The second time I asked you, you didn't even respond. The third time I asked you, again, you did not show me how to use the Handbook of Texas as a repeated citation. Then you took it as a negative comment, when really you weren't showing me how to use the Handbook of Texas as a repeated citation AT ALL. You also wrote that I chose not to follow your help. Did you even read what User:John from Idegon wrote on my talk page saying that what you wrote on my talk page looked confusing for a new editor? Probably not. You also wrote: "Despite this being total crap, I left a very detailed message on your talk page telling you how to source an article (in addition, you received instructions at the help desk)." John told you that it looked confusing for a new editor like me, and I don't think you read that. You then showed me how to cite references on my talk page after I left my message at the help desk, and that was WAY before you even wrote me that. The info User:Nick Moyes gave me was easier for me to understand, and when I did it the way he showed me, it worked successfully. You are not understanding me.

In one of your messages above, you said that you don't think I read the WP:USCITIES guidelines. I understand that the United States Census Bureau is the only source to be used for demographic data. Also, you laid into me when I said that Mendoza, Texas is the only populated place named Mendoza nationwide. I never went onto the Geographic Names Information System's website and looked it up, but I can prove that it is the only populated place with this name nationwide with this. It basically shows you the map of where Mendoza is located in Florida, in which it is a neighborhood within Temple Terrace, Florida, but when you scroll in, it points to a house, and a house is not a community. I don't think you even went to this website, or didn't even care about it. Now I have it for you. Look it up. In the geography section, I now understand that the coordinates shouldn't be used twice, and User:Nick Moyes wrote that on a message I left on his talk page. I could not find Mendoza, Texas on the Köppen Climate Classification System website, so I don't know why I added the climate section to that article. Lastly, you wrote that it is ok to be a new editor, and that we were all new here once. I agree with you 100% on that, but I don't think you are even following Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers. It specifically says: "Remember: all of us were new editors at Wikipedia once, and in some ways, even the most experienced among us are still newcomers." Look, Magnolia677, I am only 17 years old, and I have autism. Look at the edit Nick left you above. He wrote: "But I would appreciate it, Magnolia, if we could cut Colman a bit of slack, please?" You are not cutting me any slack. Also, you are bullying me, as I think you are thinking I cannot edit.

The warning I received on my talk page I honestly think is totally unnecessary, because on the talk page of Mendoza, Texas, another user said that the info I added was so blandly uncontroversial, and it is not a quote, a controversial or contentious statement, nor the sort of information a reasonable editor would find likely to be challenged. Then I found out that the real reasoning behind it is that those distances did not fit into the "sky is blue" category at Wikipedia:When to cite#When a source may not be used. Those distances were true, but I agree that maybe the distance to Houston was kind of unnecessary. Then you removed the distances I added to Mendoza, Texas again, which I fully cited, but then you removed them AGAIN with the statement: "There is a link to a Google Map and many other maps in the infobox and at the top of the page." I agree that using Google Maps isn't a good source, as the distances can change over time, but you removed them, and I worked so hard to add them here. You also wrote: "I'm really not a very good tutor. Please accept the suggestions I have given you so far, and all the best." If you are not a good tutor, then why are you even on here?

This is the ONLY time I am going to say it: Please do NOT leave anymore messages on my talk page, as you are not cutting me any slack, and you are bullying me. I am going to ping Nick Moyes to this conversation, and he will tell you the same thing I wrote above. Also, my name is not Coleman; Please do not write that on my talk page. If you want to block me from editing, I dare you, but I never want to see another message from you on my talk page again. If you leave a message on my talk page again, I will block YOU from editing. Colman2000 (talk) 19:19, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Colman2000: Three experienced editors have left messages on your talk page about the quality of the articles you are creating, particularly your reliance on just one source, the Handbook of Texas. Yet, instead of expanding your use of sources, you leave 1000-word tirades. Can you see a problem here? Magnolia677 (talk) 00:26, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Magnolia677: I noticed that, Magnolia677. I couldn't find any other sources to use for those articles. Maybe I should not have created them if there were no other reliable sources with extra info, but what you are writing me is total crap. I bet you saw how well I laid into you in the message above. Your user page says you are polite? You are not being that way towards me AT ALL!!!! You are not my parent, and I don't know why you are still treating me like this. Cut me some slack, will you? What I said is final: You are bullying me. My name is not Coleman, either. Do you understand all of what I wrote above, and actually UNDERSTAND it???? Colman2000 (talk) 00:45, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Colman2000: No you're the bully. I sent you a link to probably the finest Jessi Colter song ever to bless this planet and instead I get anger. What have I done to deserve this flat flavorless Manhattan? Magnolia677 (talk)
@Magnolia677: What have you done? You are writing negative crap about me, you are running me down, you are not giving me a chance to do anything! When I say help me, then help me. I don't expect your help to be perfect, just try to help me the best way you can. I gave you a link to what I told you about Mendoza above, and you STILL didn't look at it yet. Why are you still pinging me if you asked me to stop pinging you? You also never told me that you understand what I wrote above, and this will be the last time I will tell you, and then I will shut up: Do you understand everything I wrote above???? Rutgers Page Alumni

[edit]

Hi, I appreicate your concern that adding a name that on surface is not a known household name might not be a worthy addition to alumni but in this case the name i am adding is an editor of Politico which is a huge organizaiton and one of biggest political news companies. In the past Rutgers wiki has allowed users to submit names that are not necessarily known quanties or even have a page and it has been allowed. Also i feel the alumni page lacks diversity and needed a woman to be added so i added a qualified women. So I ask that you please allow the edits i made to stand. I do see you are a long time user and I do appreciate your dedication to wiki pages.I just ask if possible my edits stand as I have been ediitng rutgers page for long time now and the names I added are only those that are actually notable. In the past far less notable names were on it. Any name i added is realtively notable. Thanks. I do appreciate your feedback greatly but ask that you allow my edits to stand. Thank you and Best Regards.

Update: Ok I agree carrie budoff brown should not be added until a wiki page of her is created. I agree. The other changes I made are merely formatting changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raja1011 (talkcontribs) 20:55, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rude Edit Summaries

[edit]

Hi Magnolia I've noticed you've been leaving less than friendly implications in your edit summaries and direct message while ironically telling people to assume good faith like here: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Sanjev_Rajaram&oldid=818694848 placing "caution" in front of your summary as if you mean to threaten me. Also which less than friendly sentiments here: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Magnolia677&diff=prev&oldid=680090135#Thomas_R._Grover_Middle_School , I attempted to be polite with you but you responded in a rather unfriendly way. I give monthly donations to Wikipedia and I don't like my money going to a site that allows vicious, thinly veiled contempt like the sentiments you constantly spew out toward other editors. I wanted to bring this to you attention since it seems you are not assuming good faith. I'll be escalating this to getting an administrator involved if you continue to make threats or act hostile. --Have a great day , Sanjev Rajaram (talk) 16:50, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sanjev Rajaram: I think you may be reading things into Magnolia's edits that are not really there.
This edit is part of a semi-automated system that allows users (such as Magnolia) to send messages for common situations without writing the notes from scratch. Magnolia chose the message "uw-agf2" which includes the first part of the message and the edit summary. Magnolia did not write "Caution", it is part of the standard message.
Magnolia's comment here seems perfectly civil (if direct) and in no way hostile.
Communication on the Internet can certainly be impersonal and it seems that Magnolia has disagreed with you. I do not, however, see anything "unfriendly" in the examples you gave. - SummerPhDv2.0 17:42, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
SummerPhDv2.0: Interesting because it leaves little to the imagination what his implications are if he makes comments like seen here https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Magnolia677/Archive_9#Sorry , is this appropriate for a wikipedia talk page? How about his edit warring warning here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Magnolia677/Archive_6#Edit-warring_on_articles_about_districts_of_Los_Angeles . Editing articles and making sure unsourced statements are removed as well as spam is a vital part to Wikipedia but if an editor is caustic or unfriendly to those who are making the edits then they are not being patient or keeping calm. I'm wrong about the "caution" comment but i've provided evidence to back up my overall sentiment based on his edits --Have a great day , Sanjev Rajaram (talk) 19:09, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Sanjev Rajaram: As you painstakingly searched for transgressions in my edit history, you completely failed to unearth the obvious. Had you checked the edit history of many articles, you would have discovered that no editor on Wikipedia has added more joy, energy, heart, fair play, harmony, good intent, and friendship. I've helped others experience rapture, and my edits have been modest. I'm sorry we've had a foul rift, and disappointed you still need more after that give out of hard cash, but your swagg kind of shows your cheap side and rough edge. I can hardly make you feel bewelcomed with that bleak attitude, as you'll become hardup for success, while your boiling point shows you're no Teddy Bear and gives little hope of seeing the promised land and the Garden of Eden, as the Holy Ghost might lead you to a bitter end. I wish you no hard luck, and hope you'll be a lucky boy and appreciate this comical turn. And although it was me that helped create Trump, no editor has added more desire and love, love, love, love, love to Wikipedia. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:47, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sanjev Rajaram: This really seems like a massive overreach to me. Yes, the first of the links you provided (from a bit over a year ago) is probably enough to send Magnolia a note to watch the WP:GRAVEDANCING.

The second one (from over 2 years ago) is a standard 3RR warning. Had Magnolia continued editing after that, they may have violated WP:3RR and been blocked for doing so. It looks like they didn't.

I am not an admin, but I've been editing for roughly 10 years and I really don't see anything actionable here. If you still disagree, I would suggest that you review your options, some of which are listed at WP:DISPUTE. - SummerPhDv2.0 03:48, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Good day to you my dear fellows, my name is Sanjev Rajaram. 10 years huh? Try 13 years friend like I have, and also try donating money, images, sources as your contributions like me. Now Magnolia677 I see your attempt at whatever that was is quite non-transparent but certainly shows your contempt again, you claim you wish me no hard luck yet your preceding sentence shows the exact opposite. As for your thinly veiled angry sentiment, It's means little as my attitude is usually very good unless dealing with a highly unfriendly, vicious editor. Incidentally I personally think Mr.Trump is a decent president I did not mind his victory at all, though I did vote for a different candidate. The decent job his administration has done as far as the fiscal policies go is a victory for the USA. --Have a great day , Sanjev Rajaram (talk) 19:48, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Sanjev Rajaram: Well, you certainly have a point there! Say, could you assist me? I'm trying to determine if The Big Book Of Lesbian Horse Stories meets WP:NBOOK. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:32, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable. Fails WP:NOT#INDISCRIMINATE and WP:WEB. A editor of you experience should know that so this is obviously just another weak attempt at trolling. I don't judge anyone for their sexual preferences whatever it is nor do I see it as a big deal as long as all parties are consenting and of age (whether animals can consent or how to determine consent is questionable) but it's funny how you assumed I would be appalled by such behavior, Mr.Hands is also an article here but that was notable due to extensive news coverage. Sorry Magnolia677 try as you may you cannot outwit me, you cannot disturb me and nothing you say will go over my head or get past me. You shouldn't have been so hostile to all those new editors you brought my annoyance and this thread on yourself, you should have been more patient and less caustic to others on this site, because now there are eyes everywhere on this site watching you. Admins, Patrollers, etc. all know who you are. Have a good day. --Have a great day , Sanjev Rajaram (talk) 21:56, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Not sure if you can upload this picture?Zigzig20s (talk) 21:45, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: I uploaded the picture here, but the photo says it was taken in 1900. When I went to add the photo to the article I see she was only five years old in 1900, but she doesn't look five in the photo. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:25, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So is it in the public domain?Zigzig20s (talk) 23:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: Yes, it was published before January 1, 1923. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:31, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Not sure why you didn't add it to her infobox then...Zigzig20s (talk) 23:34, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: The photo doesn't look like a five year-old. I'm not sure all the dates are correct. What do you think? Magnolia677 (talk) 23:43, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure. I feel you are the expert on pictures! I wonder if there is more info about her support for the Pioneer Fund.Zigzig20s (talk) 00:01, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Videos

[edit]

Hello there! I thought you'd might enjoy this, a Disney version of Ed Sheeran's song Perfect, this, a superhero edition of The Chainsmokers and Coldplay song Something Just like This, this, a military tribute with the Katy Perry song Rise, and this, a funny video on a cop pulling over his kids! What do you think of these? Coloradodude19 (talk) 00:02, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Coloradodude19: I think you are still User:Colman2000, only now with a different name. This really isn't a social networking site. Although editors are friendly enough with each other, they usually keep it professional and focus on editing. You mostly left messages on talk pages and seemed to be looking for approval. I can understand if the edits are good, but your Texas edits were of little value and needed a lot of cleanup. Methinks you are going to run into the same problems again. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:19, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I understand that my Texas edits were of little value, and I won't do that again. I also understand that this is not a social network, but I can get a little carried away at times. Sorry for the interruption. Coloradodude19 (talk) 00:25, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Roman Yusfin, Mission section for Toronto Fire Services

[edit]

Dear, [User:Magnolia677|Magnolia677] Thank you for welcoming me into the fold and reviewing my edit. But why can I not see my edit anymore? The Mission section I added below https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Toronto_Fire_Services#Overview section is now gone. Thanks for your help Roman Yusfin (talk) 21:13, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Trap Talk Tracklist

[edit]

Why did you remove the Trap Talk Tracklist? KidMotion (talk) 18:47, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@KidMotion: I left a reason in my edit summary. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 02:04, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I notice the change by Magnolia677 has been undone, with no source for the tracklist added. I had a quick look if I could find a source; the tracklist seems to be for one particular album (Rich The Kid), but I could not find all the details given.Renerpho (talk) 21:29, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dead link?

[edit]

Hi. Is this link dead for you too please?Zigzig20s (talk) 19:56, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is for William M. McMurry House, which is listed on National Register of Historic Places listings in Robertson County, Tennessee.Zigzig20s (talk) 20:10, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Picture request

Would you be able to add this man's picture to George Augustine Washington's infobox please?Zigzig20s (talk) 01:09, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: Hey there. My Wikipedia time has been severely limited the past week due to a broken computer (I've been forced to use a laptop older than a Commodore 64). I'll take a peek at the picture next week if I get things fixed. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 02:14, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Quality Control Music

[edit]

Uhhh what do you mean "over a year ago

the page was created a week ago (edit: not even)

and why do you need to cite sources for a discography... (i understand why now but there wasnt a need to delete the entire damn section)

what are you doing — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bandittx (talkcontribs) 02:32, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to barge in, but... I wonder why there is an Unrefsect template from January 2017 if the article was actually created just 3 days ago. It makes me think the template has been added unintentionally, since it was User:Bandittx who added the template on March 3rd [6]. This would explain why Magnolia677 removed the section, since it looked old and unsourced.--Renerpho (talk) 03:02, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
See Talk:Quality_Control_Music#Unreferenced_section_template--Renerpho (talk) 03:15, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bandittx: I just noticed you already re-added the section (it is again including the wrong template). If you need help with the article, there are lots of people to ask. But if you see an edit that urges you to ask about it on the user's page, try to wait for an explanation before you undo it. Often the problem is some silly mistake, especially when the article is new.--Renerpho (talk) 03:38, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not citing sources on Quality Control Music

[edit]

It's a discography. What works need to be cited? The charts? if so, I did that. What else must I do? You're not giving me any type of explanation to work with me here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bandittx (talkcontribs) 01:03, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the section is fine as it is now (@Magnolia677: Do you agree?). Not sure if it needed additional citations at all (but they won't hurt)! The problem was just that erroneous template, which is now gone. --Renerpho (talk) 02:53, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I've tried to improve the Golden Triangle (Mississippi) with two new RS, but it needs a lot of work. Are you interested in improving it please?Zigzig20s (talk) 01:58, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're confused

[edit]

I didn't introduce any factual errors. Before it was split up into its own article the census was people who resigned a particular office yet still remained in the administration WOULD BE INCLUDED. That included Nielsen and Kelly. What are you talking about? Ron RESIGNED as chief of the border patrol. Nielsen RESIGNED as deputy chief of staff to become Homeland Security Secretary. There were no parameters established that contradicted the inclusion of these people. Why are you threatening me? Blakebs (talk) 18:34, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Blakebs: Could you point me to that consensus? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:54, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Corky said it would remain as such until a census was done as to whether to not include them. Nothing was set in stone I was simply following these parameters. Take it up with him. No attempt has been made to remove them on the main article as such I saw no reason to omit them from the newly created article.

I'm not the only one. Others agreed on it too. Please don't make it seem like I'm the only one who is making these decisions. We had a discussion in which others (though not many) voiced their concerns. Yes, only four to five people primarily update/edit the page so a "consensus" was kind of gathered. If you don't like, fix it (get a more general consensus from others). Corky 02:42, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I think WP:NOTNEWS and/or WP:RECENT might apply here. We are not an encyclopedia, not an "appointments tracker", like what we see from many media organizations. Resigning a position to take up another counts as a resignation, and that individual does not have any of the responsibilities of his/her previous position. Adding individuals who resigned from any position makes the most sense and gives a fuller, more encyclopedic overview of this topic. --1990'sguy (talk) 14:42, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@1990'sguy: Ronald Vitiello never "resigned" from the Trump Administration; he resigned from the Border Patrol to take a promotion within the Trump Administration. When Mr. Smith gets promoted from vice-president to president of the same company the news release is never "Mr. Smith resigns his position". Adding Vitiello to List of Trump administration dismissals and resignations is trivial, misleading, and does not improve the article. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:38, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He resigned from a position within the Trump Administration. The reason why is irrelevant. The article is organized around the agencies/divisions that the appointees served, and we note which position an appointee resigned from, rather than simply noting that someone from anywhere in the administration is out. Thus, if an appointee resigns from a specific position in the administration, we should note that specific resignation in the article. If we do what you want, what would we say for an appointee who finally resigned from the administration after serving in several positions. Would we only note the last position and agency they served in? If so, that does violate WP:RECENT. The article as it is now notes that an appointee who resigned took up another position in the administration in the "Notes" section. --1990'sguy (talk) 02:55, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Magnolia. Any way you could take a look at the above? There is some sort of issue regarding a native American bias thing coming in from an IP. I have neither the time or the inclination to get into it. Left it at please take it to the talk page. Thanks. Hows diaper duty going? John from Idegon (talk) 01:06, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@John from Idegon: Up to my ears in diapers! His little fingers are too small for the keyboard so can't open a Wiki account yet. I'll have a peek at that article. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 08:36, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Use My Spine

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677, I took a slightly different approach with User:Use My Spine at User talk:Use My Spine#Citing sources. It appeared that the information added at Nantucket was correct, just unsourced. It could have been sourced with Editors (July 1, 2017). "Nantucket County, Massachusett". QuickFacts. United States Census Bureau. Retrieved 2018-04-20. {{cite web}}: |last= has generic name (help) Since the account was created, today, it's possible that the editor doesn't yet understand citing sources. If you feel like replying, I'll look for it here. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 00:19, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Source

[edit]

I get it, but just as an FYI you're unlikely to find a source for it that satisfies all aspects of the policy and guideline pages here - its just one of those things you learn when you live here. A fun fact, but ultimately one that doesn't need to be in the article :) TomStar81 (Talk) 11:35, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for thanking me for this creation. What do you think of this please?Zigzig20s (talk) 08:34, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: Nice to hear from you. I sent you an email a while ago. My hands have been full with real life. You write excellent biographies, and Fontaine is certainly notable. Fontaine was a product of his time, and what is abhorrent today was commonplace in the 1800s. It doesn't make it right though. Hopefully those reading his bio understand the subjectivity of historical interpretations. I ran into this same problem when I wrote a bio for Belle Kearney. Cheers!
