Card-game-stub
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you touched Template:card-game-stub. Not that it's much important, but is there a guideline for category sorting of stub-template within the category it defines? In "my" version it will get sorted above all items in Category:Card game stubs, while under "yours" it will be under "T". Needless to say, I prefer mine :-), since it's a "defining" article of the category, but if you have a link to a guideline... ?
- Ah I realize now what I've done. I tried to solve it so that it sorts everything well, but didn't manage; it's not worth the effort. Thanks. Duja 22:00, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
SNAFU following your suggestion (too late)
[edit]Hi Mgm!
- Take a peek at user talk:FrankB#We_Got_a_Collision.21 and give us some options if you would.
Thnx, as always FrankB 17:56, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- You got it in one. Are you saying a normal sysop can't do that, and so we need someone in the guru level (developer in your words) to rename his (one week old—a lot of Irony there since you advised me about three weeks back on this— account, assuming he is willing.
- I'd rather not change the signature as it's scattered all over talk pages far and wide. OTOH, I guess the links will still get to me regardless as at the edit level they've my real user name. Shrug. It's truly NBD either way.
- It didn't hurt to ask him. Aside from understanding who to contact if he's co-operative, the only thing I can do is wait!
Best regards, FrankB 12:43, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- re:Yes, if you explain you used the name first, and help him find a developer, it's quite possible he's willing to change his name. Reassigning edits requires database access, something only developers have. Until edits are reassigned, he could redirect his old userpages to the new ones to keep things linked smoothly.
- Apologies for the late answer. - Mgm|(talk) 12:48, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Tactical shooter
[edit]I'm not aware of any free tactical/stealth shooter games, unfortunately. Though if you enjoy stealth tactics more than squad management tactics, there are great titles that your computer should be able to handle, such as Thief: The Dark Project & Thief II: The Metal Age or Project IGI. ˉˉanetode╞┬╡ 02:57, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the offer. I'm just not techno-savvy enough to figure this stuff out. I'm interested in psychology, sociology, same-sex relationships, law, and education. re: Request some 'peer review' (Talkpage sections detailing concerns)] on new article: Arsenal of Democracy
This post is being made Friday 14 April 2006 to a double handful (spam?) of admins & editors for some reactions, and advice (Peer Review) on this article, and it's remaining development, as I'd like to put it to bed ASAP. (Drop in's welcome too!) Your advice would be valuable and appreciated. Replies on talk link (above) indicated. Thanks! FrankB 20:30, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- I just ripped this off my talk cleaning up for a WikiDayOff tomarrow, and realized you weren't an invitee on the above. Apologies. I've gotten some good input, but can use more. Bear in mind to go to the talk section link first for the brief, then the article. The issue is really how to design an article covering the topic. This 'draft' just sort of 'happened', as is explained. (btw- if you don't like history, don't bother! <G>)

Regarding a post on Wikipedia on 'Blynd'
[edit]I happen to be Rohan, the lead guitarist for Blynd. So the article about Blynd is a first hand information about my band. Am I prohibited from writing something about my endeavours, such as this band Blynd, on Wikipedia? If that is the case, you may erase this article. The only intent of writing this article was to see what impact it has on our band. How should I quote sources for this article if its eligible for posting on Wikipedia?

AfC archiving
[edit]Hi Mgm. As you know Uncle G's 'bot stopped archiving WP:AFC/Today at the end of February. Since then, User:Shinmawa started work on a replacement (but hasn't been around for a few weeks now), my bot request has gone unanswered, and User:Lightdarkness turned down my cold request for technical reasons. Any ideas? ×Meegs 05:44, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hello again. I'd like your advice on two related issues. First, I'm considering making the radical proposal that AfC should be closed altogether. Consider this: Wikipedia:Articles for creation/2006-04-27 was left unarchived for 72 hours. During that time it was blanked four times. I pieced it back together after archiving, but the previously-removed, now-archived submissions are unlikely to attract attention. Only three registered editors visited and made more than 2 edits before the archiving (Tearlach 22, Porge 9, ERcheck 6); I don't think that there were any creations, and most of the edits were removals of nonsense, attacks, duplicates, and copyvios.
- As things are now:
- AfC/Today is blanked several times a week
- The page attracts at least 4-5 blatant copyvios per day, many of which go unremoved and will continue to show-up in searches
- The page is a haven for attacks, a few of which go unremoved...
- Good submissions get lost in the shuffle. That wastes the time of the good anons, and reflects badly on WP
- If all that is done is removals and declinations, it is a waste registered users' time
- The second issue is personal: I've been heavily involved in operating the page for two months (though the last few weeks I've just been removing copyvios, restoring blankings, and archiving), but it's come to the point where I want nothing at all to do with the it. I can not, in good conscience, leave it in this state, though. Any advice? ×Meegs 10:42, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- I too like the idea of the page in theory, and certainly most of the problems I listed could be eliminated with better staffing. Nevertheless, it remains an extremely inefficient process considering all of the user and anon that is involved in, at best, the creation of 0-3 quality articles per day. The low upside also discourages me from the idea of pursuing new tools. Nevertheless, advertising for volunteers is a good idea in the short run. Before we do that though, I'd like to get better instructions in place for the volunteers so they don't make mistakes like failing to attribute the content's author. Would you take a look at my proposed revision, linked from Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation#New instructions? (I'm not sure how much attention I'll get if I don't solicit opinions).
- Once that is in place, would you be willing to help with the advertising, either on the mailing list or the VP? An optimistic voice might work better than mine. Best regards ×Meegs 23:33, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello. I have been unable so far to find any reliable sources regarding the film's box office history in Italy and Europe, so I have rewritten the offending passages of the article. Thank you for bringing the article to my attention. I have edited the content and hopefully turned it into a verified and at least superficially informative short article. --Sn0wflake 18:43, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Following up from that, I do know the term, but don't know much about it as a style. A quick google on it gives about 400 hits for "pick tapping" + guitar, which isn't a huge number, but probably enough. The term is also used in at least one WP article (Dimebag Darrell), which I see links to this article - so it isn't an orphan. Grutness...wha? 08:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available
[edit]After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:52, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Both pointers were from Grey Wolf. Sometimes there is a need to mention the old 48 states excluding the recent additions Alaska and Hawaii. "Contiguous states" takes more space, and is ambigious, as it could also mean "those states which are adjacent to the just-mentioned state(s).". Anthony Appleyard 14:28, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Re: Whodunit
[edit]Wow! I didn't know anyone was actually using that. Anyway, it doesn't need to be in the same directory as VP--the two aren't really at all related beyond being built on the same platform and using similar components. Are you having problems with JavaScript error messages using either? And, just to go out on a limb, there are a lot of tools, such as Lupin's popups, that have problems with IE, giving errors such as "cannot read data," etc. If that's the case for you, you may just have to try it again after you get those errors, or you could try blanking your monobook. I put up with the errors just because I love popups so much, but I do wish Lupin could find a way to fix it. Anyway, I hope this helps. AmiDaniel (talk) 09:15, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: Woodbrook Heights
[edit]The Geographical Names Board confirms that there is no such place in New South Wales. This still doesn't make it a CSD, as I understand it, so I have replaced the tag with a prod tag. JPD (talk) 09:13, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- If you think it is a candidate for speedy deletion, then that's your decision, and I definitely won't complain if it is deleted. I would find it slightly strange that the "patent nonsense" criterion bothers to explicity rule out hoaxes, if they can instead be considered "pure vandalism", but that's just my view of it. autobio
[edit]Hi Mac, I'm confused about the autobiography/bibliography portion. I read the vanity page and am still confused on several levels. The only reason I wanted something about myself here on the wiki is because I've seen dozens upon dozens of articles already on here who's main purpose is to talk about someone. I understand that writting about myself may be discouraged, can I get someone else to do it for me then?
In terms of significance and notability I am also unclear. Although none of my current work has been published, I am working and studying in the sciences like yourself. I am majoring in Genetics and am the President and founder of a non profit organization here in Davis California. This org has to have its papers processed by the office in order to be fully legitimate but I will explain you it's purpose so that you can see it's importance.
The organization is meant to aid pre-medical students such as myself and at the same time aid the community in which they reside. There are plenty of organizations similar to this one based on community aid, but none with this org's versitility. The versitility comes in the fact that it's main purpose is health education, this is a rare purpose in pre-med orgs, most others are responcible for things such as Red Cross or feeding the homeless. My organization is meant to spread information about health in order to difuse any common missconseption about health mythology in an effort to educate the public so that they can be better equipt in improving their individual health. That is for the community in general, anyone is welcome to come and listen, and be on the list serve, we don't discriminate against anyone and are only trying to help everyone. The students who make up the org are getting valuable experience in aiding their community and learning about health issues while they're at it. This provides a great education in health care for people who want to work in the profession for their career. I take this organization as a win-win situation in which both the people working for it are helping themselves, and at the same time are helping the community with their work. Our goal is to have monthly seminars here in Davis for the community on various health topics. We will also build a website this summer or if grants are delayed, in fall. We are also going to inlist health related faculty and medical doctors to come and speak to those who attend the seminars. Another great thing is that it's not dedicated to only Davis, Ca. This will hopefully spread out to every city in which similar things can be done.
I understand that none of this was previously mentioned on my wiki but I am writting this now in order to build some "credentials" for myself in an effort to distinguish my wiki from those who get deleted.
I've also had some artwork published in San Jose's anti-smocking campaign which was distributed throughout the city.
I don't know how to site the sources for this because none of it is on the internet.
The wiki which I have up now is mainly a "practice" version that I was mainly goofing around in, but I don't intend on keeping it silly when it's all said and done. I didn't know that the disclaimer for deletion would pop up so quickly before I really finished anything.
The organization that I started, I think is a good topic which should have it's own wiki. I see a logical connection in having it's founder, myself, have a wiki as well. This isn't a purely egotistical move on my part. I meerely can't see an issue in having something about myself on here which wouldn't interfere with anything that the wiki does, and also it will be connected to something important if the org's wiki is approved upon it's completion.
I won't deny the fact that I want to be known. I want to be a vocal part of my community and help out the common people in various things. I've considered being a politician but I chose medicine as the alternative. Yet because I want to be an active presene in the community, I believe that having my own wiki would help the process and help get my message out, which is to help the community. I can see how this might look as self-benefit, but it's main purpose is to benefit others with only the credit for the beginning to be given to me which I rightfully deserve.
This is a long email, but I hope that I've made everything clear here. Please let me know what you think and offer any suggestions on which part of the wiki I can have something which I've described be in place without fearing deletion.
Thanks Mac. -Greg

Transsexuality
[edit]Hello, thank you for your message. I am not sure what you mean and I don't understand why the article was deleted. It is a fact that Turkey is tolerant of homosexuals and transsexuals, and the majority are Muslim. I cannot speak for Muslims elsewhere but in Turkey it has been shown that there is tolerance. It is not Saudi Arabia, that is for certain. I have seen other articles linking to transsexuals in other countries and I believe this is a good criteria for "stub article" as is posited on Wikipedia documents, and others can add to it. [edit]I deleted the version of the article that contained nothing but the word "sexyback", please use the "show preview" button in the future to avoid creating confusing articles. Thank you. -Obli (Talk)? 12:13, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I see, I'll put one of those preview-info-template-thingies on the original creator's talk page, then. -Obli (Talk)? 12:16, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Of course there are, but based on what I knew at the time, from reading the article and googling it (which basically means just reading the article, since the only google hits were seemingly nonsense), that was the one that seemed to have applied. There was nothing about the single hitting #1 in the article. --Rory096 19:27, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Help desk: Spam list location
[edit]- User:Vinumohs has recently been spamming links to vgreets.com I think blocking them now is a bit premature, but since this links doesn't really contain any encyclopedic info, perhaps I can have it blacklisted to stop the spam? Can someone remind me where the list is located and how to request additions? - Mgm|(talk) 09:53, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
It's on the meta site: try here. EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME 12:02, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, but...
[edit]I'm way ahead of you. It's gone through 2 peer reviews, it's up for Good Article Collaboration of the week, Film Collaboration no longer functions, and it's nearly and FA, at any rate, so the Good Article thing may become redundant soon, as well. But thank you for your concern. ....(Complain)(Let us to it pell-mell) 23:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello
[edit]In relation to the Carmyle Primary School photograph, does it matter that the children in the picture are now all...old?
It's deletion just seems a little...cruel. Although I understand why. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reality or bust (talk • contribs)
It's all fine then, thanks for the attention :)
Your rewrite looks great to me! Thanks for the effort! Yours, Huon 13:25, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your message; and no, I didn't know about the celebs. That does make a difference. I still think it's slightly marginal vis-a-vis WP:SOFTWARE, but if there's any doubt I'd rather include it than delete it. GeorgeStepanek\talk 05:41, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]If I get some information from a book and I cite the book in my article, is it ok to use the information? I haven't quoted it or anything, just used it as a reference. When I cite it, what information do I need to give. Thanks
Hello!
