Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:McMinnville Short Film Festival
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:McMinnville Short Film Festival, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement of https://mcminnvillefilmfest.org/About/Who-We-Are and https://filmfreeway.com/McMinnvilleShortFilmFestival. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This page should not be speedily deleted because I can edit out the parts that are in violation. I can change it to be a simple page rather than sound like a promotion which was not the intention. Thank you.

- None of the page is suitable in its present form. It should be started fresh, and your connection to the subject should be disclosed as well. SK2242 (talk) 00:29, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

[edit]You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. — JJMC89 (T·C) 06:08, 23 January 2021 (UTC)MacFilmFest (block log • active blocks • global blocks • autoblocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

This user name does not show as being used. Once changed, I can deleted the MacFilmFest page and start over. I believe getting my account unblocked is step 1 towards successfully creating a page that doesn't violate.
Thank you. MacFilmFest (talk) 19:38, 23 January 2021 (UTC) MacFilmFest
Hello -
I apologize for the error of our page. I'm trying to correct it and create a new one that only says we are a film festival in McMinnville, Oregon since 2011. Then add a link to our Official Website as I see Bend Film Festival did theirs. It will look like Bend's which you have allowed.
Then I don't plan on doing much creating/editing from that point on.

I would like to also add that I didn't think my page was promoting so I didn't believe I was violating anything. I see now that you see this as violations which was not my intention. I'm trying to fix that by creating a new page that looks like the Bend Film Festival so that we can then also be added to the Oregon Film Festivals page.

- You cannot justify the creation of an article on the fact that a similar topic already exists on Wikipedia. To quote "What about article X?" (WAX):
[...] Plenty of articles exist that probably should not. Equally, because articles must wait for someone who is interested in the subject to notice they are missing before they are created, a lot of articles do not exist that probably should. So just pointing out that an article on a similar subject exists does not prove that the article in question should also exist; it is quite possible that the other article should also be deleted but nobody has noticed it and listed it for deletion yet. [...]
- BendFilm Festival appears to be equally unsuitable, because it lists no independent sources to show that it is notable enough for inclusion. If I can't locate any, then I will nominate the article for deletion.
- Please be aware that any topic must be notable to be considered worthy of inclusion. This usually means it must have already been the subject of significant coverage from multiple reliable and independent sources. Mere existence isn't enough.
- If you have no interest in writing about any other topic other than your festival, then it is unlikely that you will be unblocked. There are plenty of other alternative outlets where this type of writing is permitted, so perhaps your efforts would be better spent there. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 03:56, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
