Suspicious editor

Hi again, Luna Santin. I've come across some very suspicious edits from User:031586: Some odd punctuation fiddling, with an occasional bit of outright mis-information mixed in. Other users are calling this a vandal account. Thought you might want to investigate. Thanks. Rizzleboffin 20:49, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't figure out what this guy is doing; if it's justified or vandalism. S/he seems to be tagging image after image for speedy deletion, but most of the reasons don't make sense. Some tagged for corrupt, or no image, are perfectly fine, while others are marked as no license, yet they have perfect license templates. If you'd take a look I'd appreciate it. For your judicious attitude. I'll admit I've been a bit cranky lately (new son is in ICU), and some of that crowd just really get under my skin. I have great respect and fondness for several editors with similar opinions to theirs, but with different styles.

I see we were near neighbors until recently; I just moved from Berkeley to Canberra a few months back. Kizzle, a wikibud of mine, is from somewhere deep East Bay; I think it might have been Pleasant Hill. Derex 09:34, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for blocking this user. If there is one thing I cannot stand, it's a vandal, especially a persistent one. Hopefully when his ban expires he'll have learned a bit. Thank you again Drake

Thanks for sorting out that article for me :) — Deon555talkReview 02:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, someone else is making the same edits. I figure it's probably a sock puppet account, if that's the proper term, but either way I'll be on it to stop him. Oh well, the fight never stops for quality it seems. Drake

Blanking

Thanks for the quick response. I don't really mind being screamed at by a bot; it's good to know it's doing its job properly! But I still need to blank Wikipedia:Reference_desk_archive/Science/November_2006, Wikipedia:Reference_desk_archive/Humanities/November_2006, and Wikipedia:Reference_desk_archive/Humanities/December_2006, so how would I do that? I guess they could just be forgotten about.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  06:22, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Means well but trigger happy?

Luna I see you have great love for the so called CVU, but kneejerk reverts and blocks for "trolling" look more like personal attacks on someone who disagrees with you. The Wikipedia:Blocking_policy says nothing about trolling, and I contend that expressing a view in a Talk page is in no way disruptive to the normal functioning of Wikipedia. Please try to ease off your admin trigger. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.10.18.77 (talk) 24 October 2006.

Actually, please see WP:CIV, WP:NPA, and WP:POINT. I could care less whether you were doing it at the CVU page or at WikiProject Albums -- if you have a legitimate complaint, take it up legitimately via the dispute resolution process. If all you're here for is insulting other users, you'll continue to be blocked and reverted at every turn. Please reconsider your behavior. Luna Santin 14:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Further mischief by user you blocked

Hi Luna... yesterday you blocked User:NBGPWS for 3RR on User:GabrielF/911TMCruft (now known as User:GabrielF/ConspiracyNoticeboard). Well, as soon as his block expired, he went right back to harassing the page, and making bad faith AfD nominations in order to give himself an excuse to do it (see Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Clinton_Chronicles, where he pretty much openly admits making the nomination just so he could post it on the Noticeboard and taunt its participants). If you could take a look at these latest actions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, --Aaron 14:36, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Today's featured article

Just wanted to let you know a featured article you worked on, 0.999..., was featured today on the Main Page. Tobacman 00:30, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fordham Preparatory School

Fordham Preparatory School has requested the site be "protected" due to recent "vandalism." However this all boys Catholic school considers a link to SNAP..."Survivor's Network for Those Abused By Priests" in which the sexual abuse by some of Fordham Prep's teachers is reported, and SNAP invites other abused men to reach out for help ... someone (at Fordham Prep) considers that "vandalism."

I request the following link be added and the page remain protected so the faculty cannot take down a link to an organization that has provided help to its alumni victims (some of whom have committed suicide due to the clerical abuse).

The requested added link is: http://p206.ezboard.com/fsnapsurvivorsnetworkfrm13.showMessage?topicID=24.topic

Thanks, I know you will do the right thing.

Lawyering

Kindly allow me the privilage of responding to your lawyering with a suggestion that you consider if you are headed for The Reichstag. In all seriousness, I see you mean well but please step back from the keyboard for a bit, take a stroll in the fresh air and consider that some users find self styled CVU type editing to be a mark against Wikipedia. I'm asking as politely as I can, please consider this.211.10.18.77 02:30, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

William Shakespeare didn't say, "brevity is the soul of wit" and Shakespeare was prolix. His character Polonius, prolix but unlike Shakespeare a damned fool, says this to his son not out of any interest in brevity, but in order to enforce *omerta* and parental authority in a completely corrupt court and society. --Spinoza1111 03:06, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Thanks for restoring my talk page. I had thought that adding the {{sprotect}} tag to the page would protect it from vandalism by IP addresses. Is there anything I can do to stop this? -- IslaySolomon | talk 05:50, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, I see. While anybody can add a protection template, the only people actually able to protect pages are admins -- you can read up on page protection if you like. :) We just blocked this guy's entire IP range for three hours; hopefully they're bored by then. If not, let me know, and I'll look into protecting some pages (you can also post to requests for page protection. Happy editing! Luna Santin 05:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your concerns. I have been unblocked. Regarding the user who vandalised my user page and flamed me off-wiki

You probably will remember that yesterday, I went to IRC to report that my userpage had been vandalised by someone who had flamed me off-wiki.

He and I have mediated through e-mail, and reached a reasonable compromise, so that we'll leave each other alone.

However, he has demanded that you stop editing his talk page. I understand that you have edited his talk page to warn him, and to restore warnings that he has removed. I tried to explain Wikipedia policy to him, but he threathened to take legal action against me should you edit his talk page one more time.

Therefore, could you stop editing his talk page? If neccesary, you could let another admin handle this.

One for you to look at...any input appreciated

Have a page I'm having to mess with due to what I find is a far too "rulesy" interpretation of permission - I got specific permission from Mitchel Forman and then had people claim the email I sent them/posted granting said could have been false and other stuff I find ridiculous. Got a CSD amd then a copyrightvio despite sending/posting the permission e-mail. In this case, I think it's people going totally overboard on protecting against a possible copyright vio which isn't going to be an issue, and now I have had to bug the artist in question just to super-clarify GFDL - and my contributions should readily indicate (I think anyway), I'm one of the last people to do a copyright vio. I've got a number of people I want to add images to I can't get a clear license for, as one of many examples, where I have specifically not added possible copyright vios. Again, my thanks. There's no way this was an a7. I was in the process of moving one of the reposts, but I've restored for now. Unless this is a hoax, there's no way I can see that it's a valid speedy. And it doesn't look like a hoax to me, at first glance. If we really wanna delete this I think it deserves a fair shot at Afd, unless there's some obvious reason for deletion that I'm not seeing. This may be a good reason to block an editor, but I don't see how it's a good reason to delete the page. But, I'll make that case on the talk page. Thanks for the info. Friday (talk) 19:25, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well there's obviously lots to this story that I don't know about, but I really cannot fault an editor for objecting to such an obviously wrong deletion. (This does not, of course, excuse whatever bad behavior this editor has engaged in.) I turned this other thing into a redir and put a note on the talk page explaining my reasoning. Friday (talk) 19:30, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I came by to leave you a note about this, but the explanation has already been copied here. Open letter

Evv, Deiz, Calton and Luna Santin I really appreciate the help and support that you were doing lately on my articles but honestly there is no need for that. I would like to advise you people to take care for articles like Ratko Mladić, Mr. Slobodan Milosevic and others like them and help the general readers know the truth about their miserable massacres that they did to kids and insistent people in Bosnia and Kosovo .

There is not just Mr. Abazi’s article that has been vandalized by you but all the Kosovo famous and honorable people including the history of Kosovo. It has been so clear that all the editing that you people have done about that Country is just to make a bad propaganda now that finally Serbia will lose for ever Kosovo in its final status which for sure would be Independent country as it disserves.

I understand your feeling because you are grown in the communism system where everything was leaded by the dictator and you were their kids doing the same they did with people from Kosovo. Even now through the internet you wana talk about us believing in your fathers lies that Kosovo is yours. 7 is the century that we accepted you in that region to work, clean for us and 7 [2007] is gona be the number that you gona say Goodbye for ever to Kosovo. Listen people Wikipedia is free and you can create any network to put adds and protected your fake ideas but please put ones your finger in your head and ask your self how can this be yours when there was never more than 10% shkije - serbs in there And what right do you have to talk about it when you may have never been there and when the whole world knows that Kosova/o is not Slavic place . Tell your fathers that All the churches and abbeys where owned by chthonic Albanians before 1200 and Vatican has the property papers for that. Accept the truth.

For the end. There wouldn’t be any other respond on this desiccation page or any other like this from me. I just needed to tell you this. You can take it off if you feel like some none Balkan people will read this little truth. You do what you can to lie and I do what I can to tell the truth with my articles. Beni —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.121.55.31 (talk) 28 October 2006

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I assume it has something to do with [[3]], but I can't say for sure. Whatever the case, I think you need to read WP:OWN -- these are not "your" articles, they belong to the community as a whole. While you're at it, I'd encourage you to read policies on verifiability, neutral point of view, and the like. I'll readily admit I'm not familiar enough with the history, here, so if I've reverted you it's probably because I think you've done something to flagrantly violate one of those policies. Anyway, please remember that Wikipedia is based in reliable sources and not original research. Regards, Luna Santin 17:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought you might like to know about {{helpme-unblock}}. :) A few of us on IRC figured it was time to make one, a few weeks back; I don't think it's quite perfect, yet, so feel free to tinker with it if you like. Luna Santin 23:07, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi and thanks for the info! The template is nice. I used a variation of it, because it seems weird when the user has requested to be unblocked already. What do you think about a second version for that case? I copy paste it there if you want to do something, I don't add it on WP because I can't find a name that would suit it -- lucasbfr talk 00:08, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you used the {{helpme}} tag to request unblocking, but that tag is generally more appropriate for questions regarding how to use, browse, or edit Wikipedia. Don't worry, the {{unblock}} template is enough to get your block reviewed. Administrators will be able to find your page and review the circumstances of your block, even if it has been reviewed already. You can also discuss the situation with the blocking administrator over email, or find other administrators to email here. You can also join a Wikipedia IRC channel or use the unblock-en-l mailing list to request unblocking. Please bear in mind that most of the users responding to helpme requests are not administrators. Thank you, and good luck.

Ahh, good point. If all else fails, "helpme-unblock2" can't be too horrible a name. Can always move it if anybody thinks of something better. Luna Santin 00:11, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that was the name I thought about but it seemed confusing, regarding the test templates numbering. I'll be bold and do it then :) Regarding the talk page, I've always been lost. Thanks for your message. As you will see , the other editor has been blocked, and in fact haas a history of being blocked. As you will also note if you look at the discussions, I have in fact sought to engage the other editor in discussion, to no avail. I have strived to keep a cool head, communicate, give the reasons for my edits, and warn the other editor, but he has instead chosen to make consistent reverts that lack any cogent explanation. He has also erased all warnings from his discussion page, as well as information with regard to his prior blocks, which I understand is contrary to Wikipedia policy, even though he was warned. As of now, while the last warning was reverted by an admin, I believe that info on his prior blocks is still not reflected, since he erased it. Thank you for your diligence. --Epeefleche 06:25, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You! I can now be even more evil!

I just discovered an open proxy on my own product website. Thankfully, I was able to ban it before it did much harm. I Googled its IP ( User_talk:38.119.52.98 ) and found it here on WP. What a small world, it is. And, I noticed an entire listing of blocked proxies, a rather massive listing. I was wondering if it would be alright to compose a PHP script to collect this rather massive listing so I can upload it to my product's database to add a metric assload of IP bans. Can I do this? Please? ( Lady Serena 09:38, 31 October 2006 (UTC) )[reply]

Hi, you recently made a change to this page stating in your summary:

Making text bigger, since I keep missing it when it shows up. Maybe this will help?

I recommend against editing MediaWiki pages to satisfy your personal preferences without consensus. If you are missing the text, it should be possible to edit your monobook.css to achieve the desired effect without changing the interface for everyone else. They have been vandalizing my page throughout the course of a few hours. Please alert this IP to stop immediately.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 08:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse Me?

I was trying to figure out how to get a deletion revert for my article Vernian Process, and you speedily deleted it, even after I posted the tag that was specified in your deletion review article. So how am I to get this taken care of? Or is wikipedia really a totalitarian entity? --FACT50 09:55, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Help Me

Hello, Fenerbahçe article vandalism Scragnoth get in. Please help thank you.

Blocked?

I have never entered anything into "Wikipedia" but for some time now I have shown to be "blocked." It normally wouldn't bother me very much, since I don't have any interest in entering anything on this website, except the blocked notice seems to prevent me from even reading things. Rest be assured that I really don't think I would ever enter anything into this website. It just seems to be rediculous that I am blocked, and I must be mistaken for someone else. Presently, it works like a "monkey wrench."

Please respond and explain.

It could be becuase your using AOL and that your IP address is shared by more than one person. Why that is, I'm not sure and it would be great if someone could clear that up. But, like I said, it's more than likely becuase you're using a shared IP and someone else who's using it has no concern for others. // Sasuke-kun27 22:12, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An anon user keeps removing information without giving a source. I've asked him several times to simply provide a reason for the removal, and he's violated 3RR at one time. Problem: he's using many IPs, though I think they might all be registered to the same ISP. Can you look at the history and help me out somehow; last user to do so was 216.165.3.241. You'll notice that I left several messages on talk page of both users. Thanks -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 05:27, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, I just wanted to thank you for blocking the last couple trolls out to get me. They're really not original, and it gets really old, really fast, but they never seem to get bored calling me ugly *rolls eyes*. Anyways, thank you, in the future, if you come across more of the socks, feel free to tag them with {{VaughanWatch}} after you've blocked them. -- Chabuk T • C ] 05:59, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Hayato Nekketsu

I believe User:Hayato Nekketsu has an inappropriate username as we have the page Hayato Nekketsu. (And that aside, the user has already made several nonsensical articles to boot.) -WarthogDemon 06:49, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I'm confused. I thought it wasn't acceptable to have a username that's already the title of a wikia article. For example, I couldn't name myself . . . (clicks Random article) . . . User:Roman Catholicism in the Netherlands since there's already an article. Did I get it wrong? Oo -WarthogDemon 06:57, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

I just love when vandals try and screw with my user name. Thanks for blocking the pathetic little worm. I get to edit. He does not. Beautiful thing. - Lucky 6.9 07:52, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Cool! If that's the case, I now own Wikipedia, its servers, Jimbo's 401(k) and about 20% of the internet. I love it! Happened to notice your little doppelganger down below, by the way. They never learn. - Lucky 6.9 08:01, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Erich Heller

Please reconsider my request for G7 deletion of Erich Heller on its own merits. If there are any questions that may help you in your decision-making process, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your attention to this issue. — Prof02 09:00, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

If my second request for reconsideration (reason stated on article discussion page) will now also be rejected by you, could you please protect the page in question totally, until I initiate the other processes you suggest (to prevent it changing the ‘substantial content’ status suddenly in the mean time). But please, reconsider once more the G7 request in the interests of Wikipedia as a project: I have a fuller version of the same article in the pipeline (see my main user page). I must say, though, I have never anticipated such difficulties when I first began my work here. — Prof02 10:16, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering if you could go over the [[AfD request I have now made on your advice, to see if it follows the prescribed format and other requirements. Thank you for your time. — Prof02 08:49, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

can you please unblock me

please can you unblock Alphachimp2 i did wrong by editing pages i know i broke the rules. i will not edit pages unless im on sandbox. i am being ohnest here im not going to lei to you. i will be happy if you unblock me ASAP. thank you so much. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.219.117.143 (talk) 3 November 2006

Nono, it's only a username block, because we have a very active administrator named Alphachimp. You're more than welcome to edit under another name, and I'm sorry for any confusion this may have caused you. :) Luna Santin 09:37, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you block me?

You should have a very good reason for blocking. You blocked me for "vandalism", where there was NO VANDALISM in an edit war. You did not investigate...and it is against wikipedia policy. You gave no reason.--216.254.121.169 15:10, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You asked for more information on the block, here is your tag which gives "Vandalism" as the reason:

You have been temporarily blocked from editing for vandalism of Wikipedia. Please note that page blanking, addition of random text or spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, and other deliberate attempts to disrupt Wikipedia are considered vandalism. If you wish to make useful contributions, you may come back after the block expires. Luna Santin 23:34, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In this case, there was no blanking, addition of random text or spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, and other deliberate attempts to disrupt Wikipedia. I was trying to edit something and add SOURCED contributions which are being deleted.--216.254.121.169 19:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
