OMG

Hello L. I hope you are well. Have you been watching Juno's pics from Jupiter? I am pretty sure I saw this in the background of a couple of them :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 04:55, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Marnette. Open the pod-bay doors! It's amazing stuff. Love all this kinda thing. Glad it didn't stop with just the Voyager missions. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:45, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
I agree. It is remarkable that advances in technology mean that Juno has more capabilities then all of the Voyager's combined including Voyager 6 er I mean V'ger :-) BTW I recently reread 2001: A Space Odyssey (novel). Considering that I have seen the film upwards of 100 times since '68 but hadn't read the book since the early 80s I figured it was time. I was struck by Clarke mentioning that Floyd (on his flight from the space station to the moon) starts reading a "newspad" which gives him access to newspapers from all over the world. It includes a crawl along the bottom of the screen that updates various news items. Amazing. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 14:41, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
I haven't read it in some time either (a few years, rather than a few decades)! I think I might dig it out to read on my commute to work. Last time I watched the film was a couple of months ago on a flight to the US. It was still enjoyable even on a crappy little screen, haha. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 14:56, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Brian Hurn

Thanks for the "thanks" on the Brian Hurn article. I am (agonizingly slowly) working my way through the List of South Australian representative cricketers, attempting to give each player a decent-sized article. Of course, then I find things like CricketArchive's belief that Bruce Bowley played in a match in Adelaide on Christmas Day 1942, when he was actually a POW in Singapore at the time. --Roisterer (talk) 07:51, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

And thanks again for improving the articles. It's always pleasing to see that there's so much that can be added these biographies, esp. little interesting things such as the POW issue! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:56, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Deleting my articles

Hi lugnats. i am the editor you addressed in cricket project. I made those articles as in the pages of every nations national cricket team, there were more red marks or unfinished articles. those players must also be given importance in their countries. leaving the pages of national cricket team with lots of red marks make wikipedia weak. think yourself and try to take the deletion tag. with respect User:Wiki tamil 100.--wiki tamil 100 12:29, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Hijiri88. Sad and bitter trolling

Sadly, Hijiri88 got a massive WP:BOOMERANG in the chops. Ouch! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 17:58, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Yep. I totally got a boomerang. That is why I was site-banned and indefinitely blocked for opening an ANI thread on an issue in which I had no history of involvement and randomly stumbled across. Great analysis. Hijiri 88 (やや) 21:42, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Maybe think a bit harder before bowing down and doing Turkey's bidding next time. How sad. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 06:44, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
To be fair, I did what I did entirely on my own. Curly Turkey actually requested (in an email that I didn't see until after opening the ANI thread) that I not do anything about it. I just saw your block log (which predates anything involving either me or CT) and how it bizarrely includes you getting an almost unheard-of five consecutive blocks for the same offense, all of the same length. The fact that you have consistently one edit-warring block each year for the past five years indicates to me that you do not see edit-warring as the serious problem that it is, and admins' failure to tell you otherwise by giving you incrementally longer blocks is something that I felt (contrary to Curly Turkey's off-wiki request to me not to get involved) should be brought to the admin corps's attention. The fact that about a half-dozen non-admins (many of whom have at least as much of an interest in not seeing CT blocked as I do) misinterpreted my concerns and/or strategically requested the thread be closed to avoid it leading to CT getting a procedural block is frankly irrelevant to the fact that your block log is bizarre and still requires an explanation.
Anyway, there was no boomerang, nor will there be. I think WP:BOOMERANG joins WP:POINT in the list of WP namespace pages you just don't "get".

Re:MArk Hawthorne

The reason is because the flag is incorrect. We're either doing it by geographical nationality or sporting nationality. If it's geographical then mine is correct, if it's sporting the current situation is incorrect as cricket in Ireland is done on an All-Ireland basis, not just the Irish Republic. The Irish tricolour should not be used as that is not the Irish flag in cricket. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 17:50, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

IMDb Rating

Hi Lugnuts, I just saw that you removed mentions of the IMDb ratings in several articles. Just a stupid question: is it a consensus from the editors now that no IMDb ratings are to be included in Wikipedia articles? Could you please point me to related discussions/instructions? I still (quite often) see IMDB ratings in movie-related articles, and I hope that I can help modify them. Thanks! Hopechen (talk) 16:33, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Hopechen:. It's covered here at WP:MOSFILM. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:05, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
@Hopechen: in addition to the link that Lugnuts has provided this WP:RS/IMDB explains the general reason that IMDb should be avoided. Their ratings are just a fan poll. When you see them in other articles they should be removed. Cheers to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 18:38, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, @Lugnuts: and @MarnetteD:. I've long learned that most online ratings are problematic(, particularly from articles on FiveThirtyEight, including this one), and I'm glad that the consensus on Wikipedia is to remove them. Thank you both again. Hopechen (talk) 19:54, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Simon Hayes edits

Hi Lugnuts, I've been adding stuff to Simon's page at his request, so he is the reliable source in this case. I'll bear in mind the verifiability of sources and will make sure I cite whenever possible, but for now, unless you disagree, I'm going to re-add all the filmography credits straight away. They're in the public domain - you can check his imdb site as referenced - so can't be contentious. Also, it is a little hard finding some older stuff. Trying to find BMX results from way back is hard, but I'm sure they exist somewhere, other than the medals he owns, so I'll try and find them. Please feel free to suggest the best way of including some of this personal info straight from Simon that would be accepted (i.e. where he worked and when - three will be no record online of his work place in the 80s!) Cheers, rubberjohnson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rubberjohnson (talkcontribs) 13:12, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply earlier, I'll bear your points in mind. Just want to check that Imdb counts as a verifiable source so I can add those credits back. Ta. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rubberjohnson (talkcontribs) 15:39, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
OK, I see why imdb isn't a reliable source. I'll have to find somewhere else that lists crew members of films... Quite ironic, as we all use imdb as our online CV! I'm just getting used to editing Wikipedia, as you can probably tell, so thanks for the info.

Thanks

German Oscar shortlist

Hi Lugnuts, you recently added information to some articles about the films' "shortlisting" for the German submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. [1] Please note that there's no independent judgement involved in this shortlist. The films simply are submitted by their own producers. Adding this to the artcles' lead sections may overstate the importance. E.g. in the case of The People vs. Fritz Bauer, it would be much more important to say that the film won six awards at Deutscher Filmpreis 2016 including best feature film, best screenplay and best director. Regards, --Sitacuisses (talk) 14:48, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for this, maybe a case of semantics on what a "shortlist" is, but I'll update the articles as necessary. If The People vs. Fritz Bauer goes on to win lots of other awards without the Oscar nom, this can be re-housed to some other part of the article instead of th lead. Looks like it's snowing at the AfD now. That was my third article creation at AfD in as many days (I wasn't notified directly about this one). Like buses, wait a year for one. Hello LugNuts,

Why do you keep redirecting it to Ihsanullah ?? His Name is Ihsanulla Janat..... Bindubimala (talk) 10:34, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

I think we talked last year around submissions time about the idea of splitting the Sub-Saharan article to separate countries now that most have multiple submissions. I thought it was a very good idea and I would do it myself but your work on these articles has been great and you know them much better than I do. Hope you can get to it, thanks! Hello Lugnuts. Should I move Dance of the Polar Bears to User:Lugnuts/Dance of the Polar Bears without leaving a redirect, so you can restart it in main space? There's no history worth keeping. — Sam Sailor 22:05, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bassetlaw District Council election, 2016 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

This election never took place. This article should be deleted. (See: Bassetlaw District Council election, 2015 for further info.)

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Google

I apologize for the language, but the idea stays the same. I'm fully aware of this rule and its importance (so I wasn't the one, who submitted it originally), but I also suppose that because of the page nature (it gets updated every few hours/days from August till mid October), it's important to keep it updated with the whole information and not just "to punish" the non-user (or whoever it is) by deleting there submission without even checking it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spartak2005 (talkcontribs) 10:39, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Believe me, I do check things before reverting them, but I don't want to spend my time sourcing things that other users should do while adding the info. If I can't find it, it's removed. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 10:48, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your quick answer. It might not seam so, but I put a lot of work into adding this info to the article. And I haven't finished with what I planned to do. I think I have added a lot of useful info. For example all his films after university and all his theatre pieces. So in case his awards and festival invitations can't be listed like I wanted to do that, I think we could still keep the changes I made in the film table and the theatre table I added. Besides these I planned to do a more detailed description of him, but this will take me more time unfortunately. As a Wikipedia editor I'm rather a beginner, so what I do might not always match with what you can do on Wikipedia, although I have all info about this director and my goal is to make his rather pure page as informative as possible. For that I will probably need a mentors help... Do you have any suggestion for a solution? Many thanks and sorry for being a bit of a "elephant" on Wikipedia... Your contributed article, Vladimir Lavrienko

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Vladimir Lavrienko. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Vladimir Lavrinenko. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Vladimir Lavrinenko – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Wintik (talk) 20:29, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
