Desperate Housewives Character Pages

Lord Opeth, if I promised to do my best at coming up with references, notability and improved character info and stories, would it be ok to bring back the pages for certain characters of "Desperate Housewives"? Because currently only 13 characters have pages for them, and the other ones are merely listed in the "List of Desperate Housewives characters", and there are certain regular characters for pretty much the whole show so far, such as Julie Mayer and Danielle Van de Kamp, or even seasonal (or two seasons) stars who occasionally pop up and who have made nearly 20 appearances at least and who were notable enough and beloved by fans to deserve their own pages (like Paul and Zach Young, Rex Van de Kamp, Karl Mayer, Betty Applewhite, Karl Mayer, Dave Williams, and maybe also John Rowland and Felicia Tilman - she was very notable and is very missed and made several appearances). So if I take this matter into my own hands and re-write the storylines myself so that they aren't filled with errors and include links and references including real-world notability we can keep such pages for those characters, who are still very remarkable? I hope so. Think of all the other shows here on Wikipedia that have pages for minor characters who haven't made all that many appearances and who are less notable (say, "Kang and Kodos" for the "The Simpsons", or "Nikki and Paulo" from "Lost", for example). And I have read the proposals for redirection of the character pages, and I don't agree that a consensus has ever been reached. I hope I can have your support on this. Please reply, and thanks in advance. -- Renaboss (talk) 23:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Just a friendly note that a user is trying to branch this character out into it's own article against established consensus. Q T C 12:05, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

The Lion King Articles

Your undoing of a consensus based merge at Nala (The Lion King) was extremely inappropriate as was the false edit summary you used. Article was merged per consensus. You disliking that merging didn't mean having 5000 words of plot is irrelevant. AfD is not for merge discussion and the article was handled appropriately. You were the SOLE opposer, so your reverting is not appropriate at all. Further your continued efforts to restore an unnecessary and inappropriate character section to the two film articles is also not helpful, and goes against both consensus and the Manual of style for films. Again, just because you disagree with the consensus is not a valid reason to lower the quality of the article in such a manner. Please cease this disruptive behavior, as it really doesn't seem like what I would normally expect from you considering our interactions on the Dragon Ball articles. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 03:47, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

First of all, I just want to let you and other interested editors know that my edits are in good faith. I agree with the fact of merging non-notable characters, but in this particular case the merger was not handled appropiately, because there was no merging of info, but deletion of it. I agree that Nala lacks notability outside the The Lion King universe, but she has made appearances outside the article you are redirecting it to (the first film's). I can understand the cases of Zira, Kovu, etc. (who have their only appearances in the second film) but Nala has appearances in musical, in Kingdom Hearts, etc. I fully know that merging does not equal copy/paste, but at least some information should be saved somewhere. WP:MERGE states that "a merger is a non-automated process by which two similar or redundant pages are united on one page." Nala's appearances in other Lion King's films, in musical, in Kingdom Hearts, etc. make her not "similar or redundant" to The Lion King. Again, I agree with the lack of notability of the character, but her information should be presented in other way, perhaps restoring the List of Lion King characters and include Zazu, Rafiki and the Hyenas there, because The Lion King article cannot summarize all the franchise's content, since it is only about the first film. Both WP:N and WP:MERGE suggest the use of lists of characters for those characters who do not meet notability and are considered minor ("For instance, articles on minor characters in a work of fiction may be merged into a "list of minor characters in ..."). --LoЯd ۞pεth 04:02, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
There has been discussion and I believe there is work on a Lion King franchise article, that will perhaps address these concerns. The list of characters is not always the only option, and the list was also removed per consensus. It was during that discussion where the need for a franchise article was mentioned to have a place for reliable information on some of the overarching info, like the Kingdom Hearts appearances and where an in-article list of characters may be appropriate. User:Erik is working on that, I believe. Perhaps it would be better to address the problem by offering to help Erik with the franchise article as he is often busy? Then you can help ensure the information you feel is missing is included, and get that article out faster so the problem is can be addressed in the best way possible? This also would avoid the temptation to continue undoing the merge. I would argue that most of the information from Nala was not lost, so much as it is currently spread across the individual articles. The franchise article would allow for a summary form within a more notable topic, without leaving an unnotable article in place. Thoughts? -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 04:15, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
The franchise article is a good idea. Currently, what kind of worries me is the "...most of the information from Nala was not lost, so much as it is currently spread across the individual articles." thing. I think that we shall first wait for the franchise article to be created and then merge Nala, while the Lion King II characters can remain merged (for the reasons stated above: their only appearance is in that film, opposing Nala). When the franchise article is created we can also merge other characters appearing in several media too. --LoЯd ۞pεth 05:00, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I would disagree, as the consensus already agreed to both merges to their current targets. When the franchise article is created, then changing the merge targets would be a good idea and allow for dealing with the remaining, but for the list and Nala, these two already have consensus without the franchise article. So undoing the merges goes against this established consensus. To me, it would be better to get the franchise article finished faster, to then have a better target which the current redirects can be uncontroversially changed to point to.-- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 05:05, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Category:Disney's Sleeping Beauty characters

Hi, Lord Opeth. Why did you remove all the articles from Category:Disney's Sleeping Beauty characters? Powers T 14:33, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey, anyone home? Powers T 13:55, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

I was the admin who deleted those Disney-related categories per process (WP:CSD#C1), such as Category:Beauty and the Beast characters. However, was there any reason for you emptying those categories? I don't see any discussion backing your actions. I would like to know why, or else I'll restore the categories soon (except for this one, which would constitute as author's request for deletion since you created the cat). Please reply here. Thank you, JamieS93 00:46, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

What happened was the most of those categories experimented a slow process of emptiness because the characters were merged into character lists (for example Mulan). I placed both the Disney Princess and the Disney Villains categories in the Characters in animated features canon because all princesses and most of the villains (bar Pete) originated there. The lists of characters (like Beauty in the Beast, Mulan, Hercules) were left alone in their categories so I better added the Category:Characters in animated features canon in them to avoid Wikipedia:Overcategorization. --LoЯd ۞pεth 02:50, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. It would have been best if the effort was funneled from a CfD-type discussion, so there was prior agreement. However, we get a lot of random categories listed for speedy deletion that were eventually emptied in favor of a better system. So, you were doing it for the sake of avoiding overcategorization, and to me it doesn't seem like a big deal either way at this point. Regards, JamieS93 19:51, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm having trouble making sense of the explanation, though I agree that a discussion should have been undertaken, and a response to my question above would have been nice. Powers T 15:30, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Doctor Facilier Article

Lord Opeth, why did you remove the article I wrote on the villain for the The Princess and The Frog? That character was definitely entitled to his own article. If you feel the need to remove an article about a character that hasn't appeared yet, you should also remove the article for Princess Tiana, as she's in the same movie as Doctor Facilier. I also have to say that worked very hard on putting that article together as best I could from all the information I had at the time. Had you left it there, it would've been flourished out a little more. That article was also the first article I had started and I was very proud of that. Thanks for destroying all my hard work. Eddygarfield19 (talk) 23:13, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

First of all, do not take it personal. The merger was not performed to affect you. You clearly need to read Wikipedia:Writing about fiction. The article was pure in-universe, and there was lots of Wikipedia:Original research in it. The character has not managed to meet the guideline of Wikipedia:Notability, since there were no sections about deep coverage by reliable secondary sources discussing the character independently from The Princess and the Frog (a couple of lines in a review on the film mentioning him are not enough), nor sections about the character's impact in popular culture. Tiana at least has become an official Disney Princess, contrary to what you wrote about Facilier, who is not an official Disney Villain yet. --LoЯd ۞pεth 00:51, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes, well still pardon me for being a tad upset that the first article I create was removed after half a week of working on it. Very well, at least let me be the one to recreate the article after The Princess and The Frog premieres Friday. After that, there should be more than sufficent sources for it. File source problem with File:TinkerbellDisney.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:TinkerbellDisney.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Maleficent movie rumor

I noticed you deleted the movie rumor section from the Maleficent article recently. It wasn't my section and I'm not a regular editor there, and I only added the sourced line disputing the Burton connection. You should know however, that Disney last year registered the domain name maleficentmovie.com (see whois) so there is some basis to the section possibly. Not a major issue with me. 5Q5 (talk) 17:03, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

It was not my intention to remove your contribution, actually I found it useful (and I was disappointed to know it was only a rumour LOL). However, we must not include every single rumour on Wikipedia. Also, we cannot keep material under the claim that maybe in the future Disney will develop a Maleficent movie, that would be WP:CRYSTALBALL. --LoЯd ۞pεth 01:59, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, CrystalBall says no unverifiable speculation about future events and the public registering of the name Maleficent with the word movie by Disney pretty much qualifies as verifiable speculation. I think the registration fact could be mentioned somewhere in the article and I am capable of doing it myself but I don't feel strongly enough about this topic at this time to do it. Disney has thousands of domain names and who knows how many of them are just placeholders to keep squatters from getting them first. They might not make a Maleficent movie for ten years, if ever. However, this blogger reported last year that it was a Brad Bird project with Angelina Jolie possibly to star. In any case, I had also included the Fandango ref in the Tim Burton article where it survives. Issue resolved, thanks. 5Q5 (talk) 16:46, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:LaunchpadMcQuack.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:LaunchpadMcQuack.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. WikiProject Harry Potter: Evanna Lynch

WikiProject Harry Potter has been rather inactive recently. I've been working on the Evanna Lynch article lately, and have based it off the featured article Emma Watson. I thought I'd ask if you would like to collaborate on the article, as part of a possible WikiProject revival. Leave your response at the article's talk page. Thanks! Duck universe

The Cleanup Barnstar
For all your great work in splitting, merging, discussing, and organizing articles about elements of fictional universes such as the Duck universe, I award you this barnstar. Your skill in compiling articles dealing with various fictional elements and characters is admirable. Neelix (talk) 18:58, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Opeth,

Great job with the Duck-universe-related mergers! I'm just getting back from a long Wikibreak and have two questions regarding what has happened in my absence. Of all the characters I suggested for merger, the only one that was not merged is Bucky Bug. Why is that? Also, why did you remove the Captain Loyal Hawk section from List of characters from the Duck universe? Thanks so much for getting this area of Wikipedia so organized.

Neelix (talk) 18:58, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

First of all, thanks a lot for the barnstar :) Regarding Bucky Bug, as far as I know, the character belongs to his own universe, separated from Donald's/Scrooge's or Mickey's stories. I did not find any evidence for adding him into either list. However, if you manage to find some, I will support the merge. Regarding Captain Loyal Hawk, I removed him attending a concern from another user who claimed that characters that appearace once are not that necessary in the list, if compared to others such as Launchpad, Rockerduck, etc. Greetings! --LoЯd ۞pεth 19:39, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi Opeth,
That all sounds reasonable. I look forward to future collaborations with you.
Happy editing,

List of Incredibles Characters

I disagree with your suggestion to merge the List of the Incredibles article with the Incredibles page. The merger resulted in the deletion of a great deal of information not found on The Incredibles page. Also: There was already a consensus reached to keep the page. I don't see why we need ot revisit the notion of eliminating information when there was already nearly 100% support to keep the information established.173.8.189.6 (talk) 04:43, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

You are talking about a AfD discussion which is different from a merge discussion. Anyway, the information in the list was just reiteration of plot, the characters appear only in the film and a couple of video games, they do not belong to a big franchise like, say, Toy Story, or even bigger ones. Everything is explained in the film's article (in plot and in cast and characters sections). --LoЯd ۞pεth 04:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
The end result of the merger was the deletion of most of the articles information, so I think that a decisive consensus to not delete the information is very relevant. The information on the list was much more comprehensive than the plot itself, providing a window into a richer back story than any other Pixar film can likely claim. The characters appear in the film itself, multiple video games, and an ongoing monthly comic book series.173.8.189.6 (talk) 07:08, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
If by multiple you mean three video games, then anyone could get a list or article. Monsters Inc, for example, has also three video games and a manga series, and no list of characters. In-universe media is not Wikipedia:Notability. Notability is deep coverage by reliable secondary sources, independent from the film, the video games and the un-notable comic series (which has no article because of its lack of notability). Also, none of the characters have impact in popular culture. That is what really matters: reception, coverage, popular culture impact. Not appearances in a couple of video games and an irrelevant comic series. --LoЯd ۞pεth 20:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Lack of an article is not proof of a lack of notability. As for deep coverage from secondary sources, I can list dozens of reviews the critically acclaimed comic series has received in the relatively short time it has been in existence. Not to mention the fact that the comic is written by one of the industries most notable writers, and he is up for the industries most prestigious award (Eisner) based in part on his work on this series. So no... This series is certainly notable, it's impact is measurable and inclusion of the information is easily justifiable.
But frankly, that's all irrelevant. There was a nearly 100% consensus to keep that information intact. You arguing as a lone voice for deletion does not warrant deletion. And that's the end result of your proposed merger. You deleted the majority of information included in that article. Please restore it, and seek a new consensus in regards to the notability of the material in question.173.8.189.6 (talk) 22:37, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Dumbledoresnl.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the file is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Dumbledoresnl.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Dumbledoresnl.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 02:54, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
