Football statistics

[edit]

Hi, many thanks for taking some interest in updating the infobox statistics for footballers. It would be useful if you could set the timestamps for the changes at the same time as you change the appearance/goal figures. There is a field name |pcupdate= or |club-update=, usually at the bottom of the template, that should be changed. The equivalent for international matches is |ntupdate= or |nationalteam-update=. All you have to do is replace the contents of the field with 5 tilde characters, ~~~~~, which when saved will be converted into the date/time of the change. "Thanks"

Hey, no problem. A thanks just sends a notification to the editor and says that User "..." thanked you for this or that edit. Kante4 (talk) 15:14, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. From the Recruiter's desk @ The Signpost

[edit]

Hi there, and Happy New Year! Glad to hear you're interested in contributing to The Signpost (SP)! I understand you don't have a lot of experience, so let's go at this slowly with one piece at a time, e.g. you don't have to produce an article every week. If you want to start with WikiProject(s) where you're semi-active, that's understandable, but seconding @Gamaliel's comment, you would need to "disclose your involvement in the piece". The WikiProject Report process includes: develop some questions, post them on the WikiProject's talkpage, wait for editors to respond; we have seasoned SP editors who can upload the piece after you've pulled it together. Also, in case you're not aware of it, there are ongoing WikiProject discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council. Are you comfortable with all of this, and if yes, when do you want to start? (cc: @Go Phightins!) Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 18:57, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just to echo Rosie, why don't you go ahead and start with a project in which you're not involved and develop some informed questions. I believe @Rcsprinter123: can help you locate project editors to invite to comment. Thanks again for your interest, Go Phightins! 18:58, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your responses Rosiestep and Go Phightins! I've already written this week's WikiProject report (the introduction and the questions) and tomorrow will post the questions in one of the interview rooms. I'm quite familiar with the process already, and will also soon start this week's article in the Newsroom if this is okay? I'm quite happy to not produce an article every week, as I'm still not very experienced (only joined Wikipedia in August 2015). I've looked at the Guidelines and regularly read The Signpost, therefore I have a good idea of the layout. I'm quite happy to start now, and as a result have indeed organized the first report.

In response to your comment on using WikiProjects that I'm not a participant of, I will be using the WikiProject desk to do this in my future reports. Thanks, and Happy New Year! Leeds United FC fan (talk) 21:55, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And a final question, what are the restrictions on images I can use? I assume I cannot use fair use logos on The Signpost? Leeds United FC fan (talk) 21:58, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for jumping in so fast, and welcome to the team! @Go Phightins! can you respond to this question? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:46, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. Checking in with you to see how things are going with WikiProject coverage for the "Signpost"? --Rosiestep (talk) 23:58, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tip of the day, completed Interview for The Signpost

[edit]

Greetings Leeds United FC fan, Gamaliel and Rosiestep  – On my talk page there is a Tip of the day interview completed during September 2015 that to my knowledge is not yet used for The Signpost "WikiProject Report". If true, feel free to contact me for possible SP publication.

In addition, I believe that user Tortle who sent me the interview questions might be retired. Currently TOTD is being actively updated and maintained primarily by: myself, Checkingfax and The Transhumanist with occasional inputs from other editors.

"The Signpost" - Newsroom updated for WikiProject desk

[edit]

Greetings "Leeds United FC fan" and Rosiestep – Letting you know that at Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom I added a new section for the WikiProject desk. It contains Interview requests (transcluded) from the WikiProject desk page. Yesterday I added several interview requests at WikiProject desk. Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:41, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Flags in European current templates

[edit]

Hello there, I have been asked by another member of WPRL to widen the conversation on "Flags in European current templates", in the hope to gain a wider consensus. I imagine that this message may well never be read, dismissed, see me lose support, potentially gain some or take the discussion forwards. Please do take the time to read the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_league#Flags_in_squad_templates if you can, but the crux of my position is that the flags are prevalent elsewhere, are consistent with usage by the MOS, and their implementation for their rugby league national squad/team or representative nationality, is in line with their intended purpose. The crux of the remove side would be an IP editor may interpret a flag as indication of birth, give too much credence to the nation, and the decision was made previously. To remove them from all rugby league templates when there is a limited conversation would seem more than a little unfair I would say, hence the attempt to reach out. I'm quite happy to voted down, but would appreciate a few more voices to the discussion, else it would seem quite wrong to move from the majority into the minority.Fleets (talk) 19:58, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Leeds Wikipedia meetup on Saturday 4th May

[edit]

Hello there! Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There's a meetup in Leeds on Saturday 4th May 2024, at the Tiled Hall Café at Leeds Central Library.

Full details here.

You're receiving this one-off message as you're either a member of WikiProject Yorkshire, you've expressed an interest in a previous Leeds meetup years ago, or (for about 4 of you), we've met :)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Please also invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Hope to see you there.
