WikiCup 2020 May newsletter
The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
- Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
- The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
- Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
- Lee Vilenski with 869 points, Hog Farm with 801, Kingsif with 719, SounderBruce with 710, Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and MX with 515.
The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Lee Vilenski, you moved the talk page to Talk:William Pogue and the GA review to Talk:William Pogue/GA1 a few hours ago, but left the article at William Pogue (astronaut). This is a problem.
Please either move the article right away to match the talk and review pages, or move those two pages back to match the article; all three need to be under the same name. Thank you very much. PS: the move probably caused a false "failure" notice to be sent out by the bot. It doesn't know any better in this kind of situation. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:03, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Trouted
Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
You have been trouted for: I'd be happy to use flagathlete in it's place
in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Snooker/Archives/2020/May#Second attack of the flags. No offence mate, but I will direct you to a very old version of my user page where I had a section on this "The apostrophe" (since deleted). So you should have written I'd be happy to use flagathlete in its place
. I had my suspicions you had them the wrong way round, as many people make the same mistake because they assume the apostrophe must indicate possession but in the case of it's it doesn't!! It just indicates missing letter(s) as in "it is" becomes "it's" and "it has" also becomes "it's". Hope you are keeping well and healthy and sane. Best of luck with the flags debate. COVID 19 in UK
Thanks for clarifying. All I could see in the edit was 1 removal from where it originally was and a second removal which looked like he had removed it entirely from the article. Which given the edit summaries would not be a surprise. Games of the world (talk) 08:50, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

2019 in cue sports
Great work on 2019 in cue sports! I was going to add 2019 IBSF World Snooker Championship – Women's but I wasn't sure of the best way to do it - whether it fits better under women's events, or in with the men's IBSF event. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 16:34, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- If you could add it to the women's I think. I'm actually surprised there is a distinction between the women's world and amatuer ladies world championships. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:41, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- Will do - it's probably due to the IBSF/WPBSA feuding. Some of the players compete in both - and a few are also in the main World Snooker Championship! BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 18:38, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice
Hi Lee Vilenski/Archives/2020, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!
Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Creating an article
Hello Lee,
I hope you are doing well. I am thinking about creating an article called Cancellations and postponements related to the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm not sure if you are familiar with this topic area. If you are, I would like to know: could any existing articles cover this same topic or can I go ahead and create the article? Should I create redirects to them? Interstellarity (talk) 21:31, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Interstellarity. Thanks for getting in touch. That one is a difficult one for me, as I've been trying my best to stay away from the COVID-19 articles. Wikipedia:WikiProject COVID-19 exists (believe it or not!) which is probably where you'll get your answer. We do have: List of events affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which I think is probably the same terms. I know we have a few categories based on this such as Category:Sports events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in addition. I could see how something not a list that describes how individual things were effected by the disease might be helpful, but I coukdnt guarantee it doesn't already exist. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:38, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I asked at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_COVID-19 to see if I could get some input there from those who edit articles related to COVID-19. Interstellarity (talk) 21:45, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Because the tag is preventing discussion not related to the GA from being conducted on the article's Talk page versus on the GA1 page, as the IP has pointed out. Since you restored the template, I have replied to the IP on the GA Talk page; you can figure out whether and how it should be moved to the article's Talk page. General Ization Talk 20:24, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi General Ization, I thought I already had! :) I can see that there was some issues, but I don't think reposting the same info on the GA talk is the way for it to be fixed (nor simply reverting as was also done). I've moved everything to the talk, so we should be golden. I use mobile a lot, and I suspect that the user was simply editing the section above to create a new section, whereas there is actually a big "add discussion" in blue at the top of the page which is the way to go. Doesn't matter now, as it's all been moved. Have a great day. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:33, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
