Hi guys, wanted to get a consensus for flags on our player bios (as you may know, there's been some issues in the past about using flags or using flagathlete on tournament articles.) Just had an IP revert this on Paul Hunter. I know traditionally we've had flags next to players names on tournament finals section, but I don't see how this meets MOS:FLAG anymore than what we have on tournaments. I'd be happy to use flagathlete in it's place, but I don't particularly see how the nationality of the opponent in the final is of particular note. Any thoughts? Below is the differences:
Unless the flag has been used prior in the article, we should be defining it; so we should at least use flagathlete in my eyes, but I'd like a definative version for this. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski(talk • contribs)14:22, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I'm happy with the flagathlete one. Two additional points: 1) I'm not keen on specifying widths of columns. Let the browser do the work. Most people look on mobile phones anyway nowadays so tuning the widths so the table looks lovely on your laptop is not the way to do it. 2) We shouldn't be using IRE for the republic; it's IRL. See {{Country data Ireland}}. "do not use the IRE/EIR aliases without a flag variant specified. The following examples should not be used. {{flagicon|IRE}}" Nigej (talk) 15:15, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I agree with both of those points - I've never actually created one of these tables before so just copied what was in the table. Do we have an example/template version of what we expect in these lists anywhere? If there's an agreement to change these to flagathlete, then I'll start going through them. I'm not aware of any criteria. Obviously ranking and minor-ranking events are well defined. However the others are not. Nigej (talk) 16:17, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I've added a fourth example without the column widths specified. The main down side of this is that when there are two or more tables, the same column will not line up on the screen for different tables. This is no big deal to me. Anyway, a look at Ronnie O'Sullivan's article shows that this doesn't happen anyway if the columns need to expand more than the specified width. Nigej (talk) 16:30, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
