Hi good evening,
Indeed there is 1 article already in English but only with the Romanian name of the city.
Meaning English speaker can't google the Hungarian name of the city and get an English language page reason why I created this page.
As a native to the city in question Nagyvarad, I feel it is highly inappropriate that no article is available in English with the cities Hungarian name.
I will submit the article and I would like to ask you to approve at this point.
Thank you,
Laszlo LaszloBB26 (talk) 20:13, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Nagyvárad is already a redirect to Oradea, and, searching it on Google, the English Wikipedia article is the second link below the Hungarian Wikipedia one. I understand that the Hungarian minority deserves representation, and you are welcome to expand on the city's Hungarian history in the existing article, but creating separate articles (Wikipedia:Content forks) isn't a good idea. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 20:24, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Basically, the idea is exactly that: to have an English language article with a Hungarian name.
I do understand it redirects but as you mentioned it redirects to the article with the Romanian name which leaves no option.
The reason why I am creating this page is exactly to have that alternative.
As a Hungarian living in my city is it discriminatory to say I can't have 1 article on all of Wikipedia with the cities Hungarian name on an English language page.
While it is clear English is the main language of Wikipedia and all searches made online.
If you don't approve the page I will report you for discrimination!
I am submitting the article once more.
Thank you, LaszloBB26 (talk) 20:34, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
English is the main language, but, as these cities are in Romania and with a Romanian majority, their common name in English is the Romanian one. We don't have duplicate articles under different titles, and the Hungarian name is already mentioned in the lead sentence. Ok that is just outrageous!
How are you to declare such things?!
it is really interesting how a supposedly “independent” website like yours is so keen on keeping the status quo of a state.
not sure what would your Palestine policy would be but honestly we are pretty much in the same shoe.
if not approved I will take this to the highest level within Wiki as possible.
You can’t say that you don’t accept a name because it is of a certain language.

I am not declaring anything. Transylvania has been part of Romania since the Treaty of Trianon a century ago, and, as far as I know, Hungary makes no territorial claim to it, so I do not see why the status quo should have to be disputed.
Regarding Palestine, I am not sure how it is relevant for the naming of a city in Transylvania.
Either way, the article already exists and has a title, and the Hungarian name is mentioned in the lead. We are not making duplicate articles for every possible language on English Wikipedia, although the Hungarian Wikipedia article hu:Nagyvárad obviously uses the Hungarian name. Do you realize literally all I want to do is to have my home town's name written out as the header of an article in my own language and your referring to an international treaty to block me.
I mean I'm not like one of does "ancient alien" people, if you read my article it's the city history but with the Hungarian name. 2A02:6B6A:D1AF:0:495D:AC61:AC77:8647 (talk) 14:50, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I never talked about blocking you. In your own language (I presume Hungarian), the article uses the Hungarian name. In English, it uses the most common name used by English speakers, which is the Romanian one.
Having different articles for the same city with different names makes it much harder to maintain, and this is why Nagyvárad redirects to Oradea so you can still find it by typing the former.
Again, I have no idea why ancient aliens are relevant here. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 15:06, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I promise you, you will have one day someone talking to you down from a standpoint of power. exactly how you permit yourself to talk with me.
That day remember this conversation!!!!! 2A02:6B6A:D1AF:0:495D:AC61:AC77:8647 (talk) 23:48, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any power to block you. I only declined your article because, well, it already existed, but I don't have power over your account or anything. You can resubmit your draft, and then someone else (which can't be me) has to take a look at it.
My apologies if it sounded like I used "a standpoint of power" to talk to you. I just wanted to explain why Wikipedia has a single article (with a single title) per topic instead of multiple ones. Chaotıċ Enby (talk · contribs) 01:32, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
