Speedy deletion nomination of Padlet

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Padlet, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Umakant Bhalerao (talk) 04:43, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to see you having to deal with this. Seems some people think it's OK to try to delete a person's work just because it relates to a business. I failed and gave up, and I appreciate you building a new page. If I can help let me know.Oblivy (talk) 05:08, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Oblivy! I had seen that you had written a page that got deleted, so I'm hoping that we can avoid a repeat of that this time around. Seems like a pretty straightforward overreach of admin powers. Thanks for your support! Lamacha9617 (talk)

Hi. I see you moved the page out of draft space without getting a review. That's not advisable and the result was that it got tagged for deletion. It's now at Draft:Padlet for you to work on. Deb (talk) 15:53, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb - I'm a bit confused. I closely read Wikipedia:So you made a userspace draft before moving this article to mainspace and it says: "Once you feel the draft is completed, you may wish to ask for feedback on your creation first at Wikipedia:Peer review. If you are ready to go live, you can move it to mainspace." This seems to say that autoconfirmed users do not have to go through the peer review/AfC process before moving a draft to article space. If that is not true, then perhaps that page should be changed to be clearer. Do you have any comments on the content of the Padlet page that would deem it inappropriate to live in article space, or is your concern solely with the method of publishing? Lamacha9617 (talk)
Hi. A user only needs ten edits to be autoconfirmed, which is practically nothing, and new users are always advised to practise with small edits before trying to create a new article. It seems like you created this in your sandbox instead of at AfC, which had used previously, but you have fewer than 100 edits altogether, which is very few. Had you had more experience, the fact that an article on Padlet had been previously deleted would have rung alarm bells. So yes, you can move it to article space without review - you have the ability to do so - but that doesn't make it a sensible thing for an inexperienced user to do. Frankly, I'm not even convinced that Padlet meets the notability criteria, which is why I'm not deleting it as advertising but am leaving it to you to submit it for review to uninvolved contributors if you so wish. If you don't want to, by all means move it back into article space yourself and see how things pan out. Deb (talk) 18:55, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on this. Though it's a bit frustrating that edit count is used so heavily as a proxy for quality, it's helpful to know that's the way the cookie crumbles. The case for notability seems pretty clear to me, but I'll submit for peer review and see what happens. Lamacha9617 (talk) 19:22, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata duplicate

[edit]

I see you created Q103832703 (which is a duplicate entry of Q102253002 for Peter Atherton). I recommend they be merged but don’t know how. Thanks in advance Adin-Atherton (talk) 14:25, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adin-Atherton - Huh. I'm afraid I'm not sure how to merge entries on Wikidata either. I see there is a proposed help page on the topic but I'm a bit intimidated by the process. I didn't make Q103832703, I was just the most recent person to edit it - it looks like the duplicate entry was originally created by Pi bot which is run by Mike Peel - maybe they can help with the duplicate? Lamacha9617 (talk) 15:18, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Adin-Atherton and Lamacha9617: Thanks for spotting the duplicates - I've merged them into Col. Peter Atherton (Q102253002). If you come across this again, I suggest turning on the 'Merge' gadget in your Wikidata preferences. It's quick and easy to use that, and it will let you know if it spots any issues before trying to do the merge. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 15:43, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jennah Bell moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Jennah Bell, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi @Praxidicae - thank you for this message. As I just published the article under an hour ago, I am still actively editting and in the process of adding more sources. Is there a way I can signal this in the future to prevent articles from being moved to draftspace prematurely? Lamacha9617 (talk) 19:11, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You could work on it and source it while it's in draft space before moving it to article space. PRAXIDICAE💕 19:12, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of films banned in Pakistan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hollywood. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
